passengers are getting ready to leave on the last direct flight to china for weeks. from silicon valley, a wuhan native banding together volunteers to send much needed aid to his hometown. in san francisco there are calls for mayor london breed to resign after she admitted to receiving a gift from former public works director arrested two weeks ago. i'll break down the water coming up. abc 7 news at 11:00 starts right now. >> now from abc 7, live breaking news. and that breaking news, u.s. officials say they will evacuate american citizens aboard the diamond princess cruise ship. >> it's been docked under quarantine off the coast of japan after an outbreak of coronavirus. 380 americans will be flown on two chartered flights back to the u.s. as early as this sunday. >> "the wll street journal" reports they will be flown to travis air force base in fairfield in the bay area and then to san antonio. a new minutes ago we spoke with

a nevada resident aboard the ship eager to be heading home soon. >> i find there that there are literally no negatives. we've heard a couple of myths that there might be an extension of a day or two, and we're hopeful that that doesn't occur. >> peter saver said he and his wife are in good health and have not tested positive for coronavirus. the ship was put under a two-week quarantine on february 5th. >> the number of confirmed covid-19 cases has jumped to 218. >> the last direct flight for weeks is leaving right now from sfo. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez is live at the airport, and has been talking with passengers. lauren? >> reporter: dan and ama, you know, passengers, especially bay area residents, tell me they feel lucky they were able on a

direct flight just in time. >> i'm happy to come back home. >> reporter: tina arrived on china's southern airlines final direct flight from -- it took passengers two hours to get to customs. >> they took our temperature, but there's a long line. >> china southern had two final flights, one arriving at sfo just before 6:00 p.m. and the final direct flight from sfo to china, departing around 10:40 p.m., the last flight for the next six weeks. on their instagram page, they posted this photo with the caption cleaning and disinfecting the -- a passenger reportedly was taken off the plane separately. then the staff deep cleaned the plane for the flight back to sfo. >> they just mentioned it was due to a sick passenger or something on the plane so they wanted to clean it. >> passengers say the flight was delayed for hours.

china. masks, gloves and isolation gowns, 1 million pieces of personal protective equipment has been delivered. a team of volunteers jumpered into action when the virus shut down wuhan. >> that virus -- before the hospital declared sos to the society. they ran out of stock. there's nothing. so it's very -- >> gone, clearly hurting for his hometown, he was born and raised in wuhan, and went to college there. he recently banded together with other grand watts of wuhan based universitys, also living in the bay area to help. they make up the new non profitt wuhan united. >> i haven't met most of them. >> he finally met li who handles the group's communications. they've partnered with nonprofits like direct relief

which supplies the needed equipment, they step in to help logistics. li and gong say many volunteers are familiar with business in china. >> many of them have a full-time job, you know, there are new moms who had a baby just two months old, you know, we'll really great group of people. and everybody's trying to help. >> reporter: gong says sis co hp and other silicon valley tech giants are stepping in to help provide supplies. he says fedex is also helping with free shipping. they've already helped with about seven shipments. gong says an eighth takes off on monday. in the south bay bureau i'm man day dell castillo abc 7 news the virus as killed more than 1,500 people, three people outside mainland china. just today china recorded more than a thousand new confirmed cases bringing the global total to more than 66,000.

dry conditions, once again. for the upcoming weekend here in the bay area. here's how we are doing in terms of our rainy season. to date, san francisco 45% of average, oakland just under that, san jose 41, santa rosa, 66 and look at livermore, it is just really way too low. 28%. nearly a month since the last soaking storm, and so weeks of no rain is taking a toll, and definitely we need to see some storms to put a dent in the deficit. take a look at your weekend preview, though, since we can't change it we might as well enjoy it, milder tomorrow, upper 50s to upper 60s. sunday, notice an increase in clouds, cooler and breeze by the evening hours. monday, is going to be gusty in the hills but certainly mild pattern for president's day. take a look at a live picture from kgo roof camera, we have really calm conditions right now, live doppler 7, not showing any storms, but hopefully that will be changing. in the coming weeks.

realizing he's the same guy! but there's more. this time around, it was love, and they're with us now. please welcome bonnie altucher and her boyfriend rich meeter. thank you so much for joining us. >> hi. >> i love this story. okay, bonnie, tell me this. what went wrong on the first date, the first time around, 24 years ago? >> well, i had just separated from my husband. i had been separated for about a year. i thought, "okay, it's time for me to look for somebody new." i looked. there's no internet at this point, no online dating. i look at the new york press. it has a lot of personals ads, and i'm very skeptical, but i see one. i think, "this is a great ad." so i -- we meet at the peacock cafe in the village. it doesn't exist anymore, but we met there. and i see this guy who i think is really good-looking. we talk. he's really interesting. he's saying all his favorite movies, his favorite bands, and

they're all my favorites, and when he does this, i'm like, "oh, that's my favorite band too," and "oh, i love that movie too. that's amazing." and the more i do that, the more i see his face falling. >> oh. >> and i'm thinking, "what's going on here? i'm trying to connect with him, and more and more i feel he's distancing himself from me," and i'm really not enjoying this date by the end. >> rich, what was your impression of that date? >> very different impression. i was 37. i'd never been married. so i was going on all these dates through new york press personals. and back then, you didn't see someone until you met them. >> right. >> i met her, i thought she was beautiful, i thought she was really interesting, really smart. and what really blew me away is we just had every little detail of interest in common. and my reaction to this amazing thing was -- it just kind of -- i was like a deer in the headlights. >> so you were mesmerized. >> i was mesmerized. >> she thought you were not interested. >> exactly. >> okay, so, you both go your separate ways, and the date was

[ laughter ] i didn't want to hurt his feelings, so that's all i could come up with. >> okay. >> and that's what i said. >> so you lied to him to get away from him? >> yes. >> 24 years later, um, how did you reconnect? >> at that point, i was really separated from my husband. i started -- i didn't -- but, you know, i started dating a little bit, just a little bit. i went on bumble. i saw this great profile. i really want to meet this guy. >> oh, so i love that it's modern now. so you started out in the black-and-white paper. now 24 years later we're on the internet. okay, this is amazing. >> now i see him. we were writing back and forth to each other. i meet him, and i'm all excited. and then it just fell flat. like, we had a conversation.
