it's 43 around campbell and san jose. 42 in sunnyvale. the fog confined to the north bay. few patches around santa rosa. and a quarter mile visibility in the north bay. a cooler morning, five to 10 degree cooler. a look at the fog through the next several hours you can see through the delta, north bay, 9:00, 10:00 not much left. temperatures in the 50s at 9:00 as we go through the afternoon we have a slightly warmer day with low 60s inland and then by the afternoon notice the increasing clouds in the north bay. but will it lead to rain? i'll let you know in a few minutes. >> thank you, lisa. new overnight the coronavirus is reaching corners of the globe. france is reporting the first death of a patient, an 80-year-old man visiting france from the wuhan area. four people outside mainland china have been killed by the

virus. more than 1,500 total. yesterday china recorded more than 1,000 new confirmed cases bringing the global total to more than 66,000. in the u.s. there are 15 confirmed cases and eight of those in california. it comes after new developments aboard the kwarn teerned diamond princess cruise ship. u.s. officials say the american passengers will be evacuated and fly home from japan tomorrow night. the cruise ship was put under a two-week quarantine february 5th after the reported outbreak. the u.s. embassy in japan says 380 americans will fly into travis air base in. last night we suffolk to a novato resident aboard the ship who is eager to get home. >> i fine that there is there are no negatives and it's one hell of a story we'll have when we get back. we have heard a couple of myths that there might be an extension of a day or two.

guangzhou taking passengers two hours to get through customs. >> they took our temperature. there is a long line. >> china southern had two final flights. one arriving at sfo just before 6:00 p.m. and the final direct flight from sfo to china departing around 10:40 p.m. the last flight for the next six weeks. on their instagram page they posted this photo with the caption, cleaning and disinfecting the aircraft. earlier on friday, a passenger from san francisco landed in heathrow london feeling coronavirus symptoms. the passenger was taken off the plane separately. then the staff deep cleaned the plane for the flight back to to sfo. >> they mentioned it was due to a sick passenger or something on the plane. so they wanted to clean it. >> passengers say the flight was delayed for hours. >> luckily enough my wife sent me with a bunch of wipes so i wiped down the seat, everything around me. >> and some passengers never

boarded. >> a couple of passengers decided to reroute themselves through chicago or l.a. but some did. >> for bay area residents arriving on the final direct flight from china for weeks they feel fortunate. >> i feel lucky. >> lauren martin easy abc. o 7. we're told china southern airlines resumes service the end of next month while the final flight is taking off so are relief efforts centered in silicon valley. a long distance relief headed by a bare resident born and raised in withdrew wuhan. our reporter, amanda del castillo is in san jose with how people are helping out. >> reporter: masks gloves and isolation gowns one million pieces of personal protective equipment delivered to wuhan health workers. tom gong and a team jumped into action when the government locked down wuhan. the first shipment arrived january 31st. >> that virus came before

hospital declared sos to the society. they ran out of stock. there is nothing. so it's very painful. >> gong hurting for his hometown. born and raised in wuhan and went to college there. he banded together with other graduates of the university living in the bay area to help. they make up the non-profitable wuhan united. >> i haven't met most of them. probably 50, 60. >> but on friday he met this woman handling the group's communications. they partnered with non-profits like direct relief supplying much of the needed equipment. wuhan united steps in to help with logistics, customs forms and paperwork needed to get supplies to wuhan. gong say many volunteers are in china. >> many have full-time jobs. new moms have a baby two months old. really great group of people. and everybody is trying to help.

with former public works director mohammed nuru is not unethical but having nuru pay $56 0 last year to fix mayor breed's car plus a rental is unethical. that's according to the stanford law professor. >> law prohibits accepting gifts from someone over whom you have a supervisory relationship. and the mayor in in case had hiring and firing authority over this individual. >> reporter: mayor breed says she didn't violate any laws and intends to repay the money to nuru arrested two weeks ago on fraud charges. >> i'm not required by any laws to provide in information. but i felt it was important to do so for the sake of full fraerptcy. >> reporter: in her bombshell article on the website breed claims that under the commission rules he was a friend and unrelated to the officials position. professor rhode challenges that

ex-girlfriend and 4-year-old son before taking his life. identified as jacoby brooks. investigators say the woman and child were found shot to death in separate locations thursday night. brooks was located with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. in the east bay concord police released this surveillance video linked to purse snatching robberies off monument boulevard last week. the suspect sneaks up on an unsuspecting woman taking the purse from the front seat. then to a get away car a dark colored 2019 honda accord. we want to update you on the rescue of an animal so strange looking it's hard to tell the species. we've been following her story two years as she got expert care from animal lovers in california and across the country. now as abc 7 news anchor dan ashley reports, she has finally found her forever home. check out the images before and after to see the transformation of a former

california girl named eve. eve is settles into a live in texas right now. but a couple of things weren't so good. this is how eve looked found in a trash bin in butte county. she had mang, a skin disease. >> we never had a case this extreme before. >> she got help thanks to volunteers driving her to san diego county rehab at the fund for wildlife animal center. there she got months of life saving medical care leaching the skin healthy and ready to grow fur. >> has a healthy appetite. >> after nine months she was looking like a bear and play like one too. the ornl goal was releasing her back into the wild. as time passes the plan changes. >> her hair never fully regrew. it's very patchy and she still is missing quite a bit even after two years.

>> eve can't survive in the wild without a fur coat. she needs a different home with space for a full grown bear. a california rescue group called lyannes, tigers and bears offers transportation. and eve moves 1,400 miles to an animal sanctuary in texas. >> has of an inside den that's heated. >> now she gets used to life at the cleveland amery black beauty ranch affiliated with the humane society of the u.s. >> she has an acre of open wooded space that's fenced in. and now she gets to live like a bear. the best possible outcome for not being able to be released into the wild. >> but the rode from hairless bear to happy ending is not cheap. eve's care is expected to cost about $15,000 a year, all of it raised with private donations. dan ashley, abc 7 news. what a sweet story. and here is another one. because there was quite a bit of

puppy love going on at the santa barbara county courthouse for valentine's day. part of the busy running day on the courthouse lawn. some of the dogs were well dressed. and the dogs can participate orp stay for the after photos. >> today's valentine's day it's a day about love and what's better to love than something loving you unconditionally. >> it's a beautiful day out. we're on this nice grass. the dogs are having fun. anything we can do to get the dogs exposure is really great. >> local animal rescue groups teamed up to bring the lovable dogs into the area who need a new home. and one newlywed couple couldn't resist talking about adoption as a first big decision. now to the accuweather forecast with meteorologist lisa argen. who is tracking this long weekend weather. lisa. kate, good morning to you. looking at live doppler 7. a clear start except for patchy fog in parts of the north bay.

as we go further north you notice the cloud cover, but a dome of high pressure overhead. we have a weak weather system moving into the bay area tomorrow. and it's setting up on the eastern side of the ridge. and that's allowing once again for wind moving into the bay late tomorrow into monday. a look at the current numbers, 37 in novato. it's cold in the north bay, in the 30s. elsewhere, mid-and upper 40s. a chilly start without the fog, the marine layer we had the past couple days. looking at numbers, 10, 11 degrees cooler than yesterday at this time where the fog sits up in the north bay. a live look outside where we are looking at san francisco here. a milder day today. we have breezy and cooler conditions getting into sunday. gusty winds in the hills late tomorrow into monday. and those are the offshore winds which set us up for mild days getting into the third week of february. and that's spring-like weather

looks to last perhaps into next weekend. but there are signs of things changing perhaps by the end of the month. i know we have two weeks that -- left into february. it's been a dra start, already in the middle of the month. sunday. with the wind coming into play. cooler. upper 50s in san francisco. the on-shore flow and then the northeastly winds g getting gusty late sunday into monday. but temperatures mild, 60s to low 70s here. so nice looking day for your monday. spring-like conditions continue into tuesday. so the last soaking rain, whaefs that, january 16th. a long time ago. looking at february, of course the first two weeks dry. as we set up the third week of february, you could see another stripe of yellow here. by the time we get to the 24th, 25th, indications of perhaps maybe a pattern change. but going into the next ten days this takes us perhaps through next weekend, it looks dry for

much of the state. the deficit continues to add up with another sunny and dry day with low 60s in oakland. upper 60s in san jose. 69 in santa rosa. high clouds today overall another mild around. looking for the winds kick up later on tonight. a look at the accuweather seven-day forecast, we're talking about upper 50s to mid-60s around the bay and coast and then getting into our inland valleys it's mild into the upper 60s. cooler and breezy into sunday. the offshore winds allowing for a bit of a gusty start to your monday. the holiday. we have the winds in the north and east bay hills. then it's chilly start tuesday and wednesday. afternoons mild, looking at low 70s by thursday and friday. certainly not going into the right direction. but that's the third week of february. maybe the last week of february we get rain. >> i know we need that but i

and good morning. it is saturday, the 15th. i'm kate larson we start with a look at weather with lisa argen. good morning, lisa. >> hey, kate, good morning to you. it's chilly in the north bay where we have a little bit of fog, also along the coast. but otherwise it's a quiet start to the weekend. temperatures in the east bay from in the 40s. it from sand leonardoo. oakland at 49. upper 30s in novato fog in santa rosa. and along the coast pacifica 48 degrees. mild visibility in the north bay. quarter mile half moon bay. chillier in the south bay and east bay. 7 to 9 degrees colder than yesterday. through the morning hours the fog dissipates after the sun comes up about 7:00. plenty of 50s left over. by 1:00 upper 50s to low to mid-60s. a nice day. look at clouds increasing from the north. that's a cold front we talk about the cloud cover tonight. will the clouds bring any rain

confirmed cases and eight of those in california. new developments, the u.s. plans to evacuate 380 quarantined americans aboard the diamond princess cruise ship and fly them home. anybody tested positive for coronavirus can't leave and will continue receiving treatment in japan. in an email to the passengers, the u.s. embassy said that people choosing to return on the charter aircraft will still have to undergo 14 days of quarantine in the u.s. the charter plane will first fly to travis air base in fairfield before heading to lackland air base in san antonio. we spoke on the phone to a novato resident aboard the ship who says he knows what he wants to do when he gets back to the u.s. soil. >> have a hamburger and probably a couple of beers. that's an easy one. but i think just getting back with our friends is going to be -- it's going to be a minor miracle in itself. >> yeah, no kidding.

7 on your side michael finney shows you how it works. >> when hundreds of recycling centers suddenly closed last summer, consumers had no easy way to redeem deposits on bottles and cans. >> where i got frustrated is if they're not taking my cans and bottles back why do i pay the fine. >> now they close the recycle you can't get money refunded. >> lines grew at the remaining recycling centers and law makers declared the bottle recycling system needed complete overhaul. >> we're going to have a truck, trailer and we're going to pull up to locations in every supervisor district. >> san francisco won approval to try a pioneering recycling system. instead of consumers going to a recycling center, the center will come to them. >> the mobility gives us options to bring convenience to the entire city that we didn't necessarily have with the fixed locations. >> here is how it will work. recycling trucks will park in each neighborhood at specific dates and times.
