coast. the golden gate grudge. cooler at the coast. it will be breezy there but we'll have mid-60s elsewhere around the bay and the winds kick up tonight. we'll talk about that breezy presidents' day holiday coming up. liz. >> lisa, thank you. all right. right now, hundreds of american passengers are waiting to evacuate aboard two 747 jets to bring them back home. these are people that have been quarantined two weeks on the diamond princess cruise ship. other passengers on board have been infected by the coronavirus by the dozens. this is a live look at the ship in janice where men's will disembark to return to the u.s. they will land sometime today. some will be quarantined 14 taste when they arrive here at travis air force base in firefield. others flown to lackland in texas. we're pushing to find exactly

arrival times. we will keep you posted. overnight the death top climbed to 1600 people. first fatality was also confirmed this week in europe. the number of worldwide infections have climbed to 69,000, 15 of them are here in the u.s. here is abc 7 news reporter ty hernandez with the latest. >> reporter: nearly 400 americans who have been quarantined on this cruise ship off the coast of japan will soon be on their way home, but many are concerned once they arrive in the u.s. they will face another two-week quarantine. >> that's very tough because we're business owners. our house being taken care of, business taken care ofe work being done. >> they will have additional screens before returning to the u.s. >> the fact more and more positive tests keep coming has made us lose faith in the quarantine process. >> worldwide they are estimated

to be more than 68,000 people infected. 1,665 people have died, mostly in mainland china. france reporting the first death outside of asia, an 80-year-old chinese tourist who had been in quarantine since january. the u.s. announcing it will noww be tested for covid-19. on saturday abc news getting an inside look at this 3m factory in south dakota, working around the clock. >> i'm making a product that's protecting even just one person, it makes that 8 hours or 12 hours worth it. >> making face masks and respirators to combat global shortage supply. ty hernandez, abc news, new york. fears of the virus are hitting the port of portland which sees countless ships around the world. port officials are cleaning a close eye on how the coronavirus will impact future trade

numbers. numbers show both imports and exports are currently rising but the question is how long. the port of oakland says since the december outbreak of the coronavirus, some international shipping lines are canceling upcoming cargo trips. abc 7 news spoke to a novato man headed home after being stuck on the diamond princess. he said they had been let out of their cabin just four times. >> we have no way to talk to anybody else. we can't even recognize them. we all look like ghosts with our masks we have to wear continuously when we're outside our cabin. >> rick added he and his wife were tested for the disease and the results came back negative. several other pay area residents aboard the diamond princess. find those stories on the website, abc7news.com. moving on. police are investigating a shooting on the tracks of b.a.r.t. station, it was closed for hours because of this. the victim is in the hospital

with life threatening injuries. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez has more. >> shots fired! shots fired! >> reporter: police radio calls describe the moment when two b.a.r.t. police officers open fire on an armed man at el cerrito del norte statio around 2:00 in the afternoon. >> if you were there, you would see he was running trying to get away from the police. >> a witness, who did not want to show her face on camera, was signature on b.a.r.t. before the shooting. >> they chased him on the train, on the platform. i guess he jumped on the tracks and that's when they shot him. >> they fired off a lot of rounds out there and everybody scattered. i ran out. >> at a press conference parity police ed alvarez said the two officers involved were responding to a domestic disturbance call between a man and a woman, one of them armed. >> the officers got onto the platform, challenged that individual who then ran off the train, down the platform, and

onto our track way at which point a gun was produced by the suspect. our officers ultimately shot recovering a gun. >> the victim shot was airlifted to a nearby hospital. witnesses say they were trying to console the girl that was with them. >> she was saying how old he was. he's 17. he's only 17, and that scared me. >> lauren martinez, abc news. and parity police have not confirmed the able of the man who was shot or the woman that was with him. officers are looking through video from the stations, trains, and body cameras both officers were wearing. we first reported this story through the abc 7 news app withan alert at 2:50 yesterday afternoon. the app is one way to stay on top of breaking news as it comes into our newsroom. when you download it, just be sure to enable the push alert feature. a man is facing serious charges for attacking two women on the embarcadero in san francisco. the attacks happened yesterday

morning in broad daylight. cornell barnard has the details. >> this is my commute so that's scary. >> reporter: strong we action to a scary ibt early saturday morning. police say this man wearing a cap and overalls was arrested and charged with attacking two women. around 7:00 a.m. a woman running along embarcadero was stabbed near pier 19. this tourist who spoke russian told us what she saw. she says we saw the young woman on her knees. she had a knife in her upper back. she re-enacted the attack for police officers and said the suspect was agitated and swearing. he took off on a bicycle. ten minutes later the same pan is suspected of attacking another woman nearly pier 39 with some sort of tool. she was helped into the ambulance with a bandage on her head. police say the attacks were random. both victims will survive. >> it doesn't surprise me because san francisco is kind of getting that way.

we have too many people out the streets that are a little bit psychotic. >> william hall lives on the embarcadero. he's concerned about the violence and has taken steps to protect himself. >> i don't know what the solution is. i know it's an issue, and i carry pepper spray all the time. >> the suspected name has not been released. he's facing two counts of attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest. in san francisco, cornell barnard, abc 7 news. all right. in the east bay pittsburgh police are investigating a deadly shooting. a body was found frida night at woodland hills park. we first got word of a possible shooting. the victim identified as a 21-year-old man. his name was not released. investigators say the suspect shot the victim, ran to a compact car and ran away. illegal drug use suspected of deaths frowned in marin county. the two were found in a driveway

in the area of the sleepy hollow neighborhood. the victims are 32-year-old man from mill valley and 30-year-old woman from tiburon. toxicology tests will happen this week to determine what they died of. the marin humane society is caring for a dog that was found in a car in a driveway. someone analyzed the historical peralta in oakland. the park shared the photos including an adobe oven damaged. it delayed a feast. graffiti scrawled over a rock. a fundraiser took place in east bay to help australia care for koala. jazz lovers serenaded by musicians and the benefit for australian koala foundation. tens of thousands of animals died in the bushfires. their habitats decimated by the

historic disaster. the fundraiser sought to raise money to help relief efforts for the sweet little koalas. >> read so many things about the australia koala foundation and the great work they were doing to help them. i thought this was something to raise awareness and raise money and help them and have fun at the same time. >> donations to the nonprofit are tax deductible. organizers say they had to do something after learning of the expensive devastation to wildlife. the good news, lisa, they did finally get rain. it seems like they are not in such a dire situation they were just a few months ago. >> right. our situation not so great with getting three weeks of no rain around the bay area. of course we have had dry februarys but we don't want this one to go down in the record books from our roof camera, 50, partly cloudy san francisco, clouds in the north bay 45 there. a little breezy, a little cooler. we'll talk about the windy forecast for presidents' day and look at a spring-like seven-day

of kobe bryant. commissioner adam silver announced the move yesterday. kobe and his 13-year-old daughter gianna were among nine people killed in that helicopter crash near l.a. three weeks ago. nba all-star saturday night kicked off last night with a tribute to kobe, instead of silence they asked for fans to cheer for 24.2 seconds. >> 24.2 seconds we want this arena loud. we want to make some noise. all right? we want to hear it loud. let's go. let's go! give it up! bring that joy, bring that passion. >> 24.2 seconds. kobe became the youngest player to play at age 19. he made the all-star team 18 times during his career with the

and running by may. in the north bay bring cash if you plan to visit point reyes. the om gas station on highway 1 can't accept credit cards right now. it's not clear what caused the problem and it may not be fixed until tuesday. visitors are being advised to fill up before making the trip or have enough cash to fill up at the highway 1 station. meteorologist lisa tracking the forecast. a good day for a day trip to point ridge? >> yeah, we're going to see some sun, a few clouds in the north bay. a weather system that will bring partly cloudy skies. start out most clouds in the north bay elsewhere, it's clear from the peninsula but we see fog move in. the bigger picture shows a week system for the north. tail end slipping in and allowing for clouds today and a breezy coast. 51 san mateo, 50 in belmont, redwood city 42 with low 50s from fremont and hayward.

48 in napa, livermore at 42. we don't have fog as an issue this morning. here is a look at upper-level winds gusting to 22 miles per hour, mount tam. mount diablo at 32 miles an hour. those winds will mix down to the surface later on today. and bring in that cooler air. we're looking at, of course, golden gate bridge, good visibility. slightly cooler, breezy at the coast, gusty winds in the hills for presidents' day and spring-like weather for the rest of the workweek. here are the winds at the coast. 10:00 anywhere from 18-mile-an-hour wind gusts, half moon bay to nearly 30 point reyes. light winds over the bay. it's the coast today. as the front pushes to the south of us, notice we're not looking at rain from santa rosa to san francisco, light amounts through portland. it's the winds in the upper elevations that are going to kick up later on tonight. here we are overnight, 2:00 in the morning to see the delta.

the winds will continue to pick up out of the neefd. that offshore component anywhere from 25 to 35 miles an hour. this is your holiday on monday morning. then by the afternoon it won't be as windy. we'll call it breezy but both days, sunday into monday will feature some sunshine. here is a look at the state as a whole. our drought monitor indicates dry weather in yellow but a patch here of this beige indicates moderate drought throughout fresno, bakersfield. if you put it all together, it looks like almost 50% of the state is abnormally dry. we'll probably be 50% in another week when we don't see any rain. of course we need the rain. partly cloudy, 52, windy at the coast, cooler, 2 palo alto, mid 60s for san jose. 66 in napa. accuweather forecast, breezy at the coast, winds gusty in upper

elevations for the holiday. partly cloudy today, a little more sun tomorrow and cold mornings for tuesday and wednesday as the winds dial back. we'll have that dryer air mass settle in but the afternoon is nothing but mild conditions and the end of the week there's a system that wants to move into southern el came. it's a weak one, wouldn't bring us much rain anyway. right now we're holding with temperatures near 70 at the end of the week. >> okay. not bad. seems nice. i know we keep saying the time of year we noticed rain. >> weird in february. >> just ahead, falling head over heels in more ways than one. how new couples got to know each other better over roller coasters at six flags coming up.

good morning, everyone. thanks for joining us. if you're just joining us, we're going to start this half hour with the weather. here is meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, liz, good morning to you. we have temperatures in the 40s and 50s this morning and some clouds forming along the coast also in the north bay. right now it's not windy out there, except at sfo. west wind of 21. 51 in hayward. it is 46 in berkeley. san francisco 50, 45 santa rosa. we're warmer anywhere from 2 to 10 degrees warmer this morning. that won't be the case

throughout the afternoon. you see breezy winds in upper elevations gusting to 30 miles an hour out of the north around mount diablo. we'll have winds along the coast bringing in slightly cooler air mass. 9:00 we're in the 50s. by 1:00 some low 60s around the bay. it will be windy at the shoreline. elsewhere a pleasant day, partly cloudy skies and just a bit cooler that what we did yesterday. liz. >> lisa, thank you. the california primary is weeks away now. right now early voting is under way in nevada, a key caucus state. democratic candidates are zeroing in and gearing up for another debate as well. rachel scott reports from las vegas. >> the democratic primary springs west, the democratic candidates will be flooding the state. bernie sanders will be riding in on a wave of enthusiasm fresh off his new hampshire victory. he is taking heat from union leaders who express concern about medicare for all proposal. sanders i caught up with him to see supporter for a polling location.

he brushed off concerns saying he believes he is going to do well here. this state will be the first test for which candidates can appeal to minority voters. former vice president joe biden believes he can get the job done. he had a poor finish in the first two contests but believes he can finish top two in nevada. other candidates like pete buttigieg and amy klobuchar will be racing to gain support amongg minority voters. early voting started in nevada, going to last four days and next debate on wednesday. rachel scott, abc news, las vegas, nevada. of course, early voting us independent way in california. a question now, can addressing climate change be a defining issue for democratic candidates in the california primary. in our latest episode of chasing california, chris reyes dug do that question. >> if it has any major effect it will be on turnout. because climate change is such a vital issue to the younger voters, because the younger voters aren't always regular

voters. this evening presidential candidate amy klobuchar will be in san francisco for a private fundraising event and friday senator sanders will be at ridgeway pavilion. can you see two of the 2020 presidential candidates coming up at 8:00 a.m., amy klobuchar of minnesota and billionaire and san francisco resident tom steyer. anchor martha a 14-year-old boy charged in the stabbing of the barnard student. she was attacked by a group of teaches as she walked through the manhattan park. a 14-year-old charged with her murder along with 13-year-old accomplice. dna evidence linked the 13-year-old to the crime.

the manhattan says he intends to honor the memory of majors by seeking justice for her. deployed into sanctuary cities across the coming states in the coming weeks, san francisco is among the cities targeted. the they will help with immigrants. it the latest salvo in the battle against municipal governments across america refusing to participate in rice crackdown on immigration. chicago, l.a. are among cities targeted. they expressed alarm over the move saying, quote, we have defeated these intimidation tactics before and we are ready to do so again. facebook's ceo mark zuckerberg said they should regulate similar to telecommunication and newspaper. zuckerberg made the comments in germany. he expanded on regulation of social media companies sup as

his own. he said tried to influence the upcoming election. the source of campaign is surprising. >> one of the things that we're tracking that we have been quite worried about, election interference for election campaigns, not just foreign interference of the type we saw before but also increasingly dom particular. >> zuckerberg sighs he now employs 35,000 to review and flag harmful posts. tesla, they are expanding their solar roofing business and even have plans to go global. ceo elon musk shared the news in a tweet. the company is under pressure to ramp up business. energy revenue went down by $24 million this year, although the company recorded record sales this quarter. facing legal action from the state of new york for not having enough workers at its buffalo plant. tesla shareholders are suing the company for the solar city acquisition calling a bailout from the cousins who run the company.

get this. a bay area photographer facing action for taking photos of the golden gate bridge. bruce getty threatened with a a lawsuit for a photo he took. it features a photoshopped image of the blood machine in 2018. they said it was snapped at an illegal angle. they claimed he trespassed into an illegal area underneath the span to get the shot. he was cited in 2014 and stopped by police last september. >> they say it's an illegal angle. >> do you think it was illegal? >> not really. i'm a guy that wants to go on the rocks and get an unusual angle. i'm not the only one that's done it. >> getty says he happened sold one of these pictures but he has no plans to remove it from his website like the district is asking him to. still to come, a big change coming to the university, the first new building in 30 years is complete. the excitement and hope it will

we're looking at 40s and 50s. live look outside. breezy the upper elevations. those winds will stay there for the time being and my great to the shoreline today. then we'll look for a pretty windy holiday put it all together in a moment. as we're looking live outside there, you can see it had pretty good visibility. nothing not much of a factor this morning. looking at partly cloudy, slightly cooler and the breeze monday will really pick up in the north and east bay hills. we're talking 30 miles an hour. elsewhere it will be breezy in the lower elevations but our drive pattern continues for the next seven days. this morning we're a lot warmer than we have been mid-40s santa rosa, 50 oakland, san francisco. it is 41 in san jose, 42 livermore. looking at some temperatures today not quite as warm as yesterday. those winds will certainly keep san francisco cooler. as we look closer here from our exploratorium camera, there's a little bit of cloud cover from

san francisco south along the peninsula, maybe a marine layer trying to form. to the north bay it's high and mid level clouds. the system up to the north is a weak one not even bringing a quarter of an inch around portland. what's left of it will be some clouds. as we look at the wind gusts above 1,000 feet it's getting pretty gusty there, anywhere from 22 miles an hour, mount tam, to 34-mile-an-hour gusts, mount diablo. not going to see them at the surface but if you're at the coast you'll notice it. look how bright and sparkling in san francisco as sutro tower camera cooler today, breezy at the coast. those gusty winds in the north and east bay hills for presidents' day and spring-like weather continues even getting warmer as we head towards the end of the upcoming workweek. here are the wind gusts today, 10:00. can you see at the coast the colors begin to develop from the darker shade of purple here. that's wind gusts over 30 miles an hour from point reyes.

pretty windy half moon bay to pacifica. not a lot of wind but slightly cooler air mass then the winds for the bay tomorrow. but as for today, here is that weather system. look how weak it is. kind of anemic as it falls apart along the north coast here. as we pick up for the wind in the overnight hours, it begins to build here. east bay you can see 22-mile-an-hour gusts, up to 30 miles an hour. here we are 8:00 tomorrow morning. it's going to be a breezy to windy monday for your holiday but still sunshine on the way both today and tomorrow. so highs today partly cloudy, 62 in fremont, 60 richmond, 67 in santa rosa. then overpass tonight we're in the 40s. a few clouds around. not that cold due to the wind mixing things up. accuweather seven-day forecast we have a cool day at the coast. 50s there, low- to mid-60s elsewhere. getting windy in the upper elevations for monday. tuesday it's a cold start and
