pleasanton, danville, all socked in with fog. it's heading in to the east along 24 so lafayette, pleasant hill, orinda may get foggier. this is looking north towards the maze, you can see how foggy it is there. temperatures running 42 to 48. upper 50s to low 60s at the coast. breezes picking up in the hills this afternoon. temperatures in the upper 60s near 70 with high clouds and sunshine at 4:00. a touch of spring in the air. here's jobina with a look at the commute. >> thank you, mike. the commute is very light now. this is a look at the map. it's green across the map. 580 past the altamont pass, getting up to livermore. this is cleared up in american canyon, along 29, some fog there. along the coast, still in the area, half moon bay, highway 101, in that area.

tracy to castro valley, 30 minutes. highway 85 to the san jose airport, 15 minutes. this morning wildlife officials are combing through open space in santa clara county to find a mountain lion that pounced on a young girl. >> it happened yesterday morning at the rancho san antonio preserve. julian glover is live there with more on this attack. >> good morning to you both. thankfully that 6-year-old girl is okay. what we know is that the california department of fish and wildlife are using a pack of four specialized dogs to hunt down this mountain lion, this 160-pound mountain lion to hopefully bring this thing in before it can hurt anyone else. we want to tell you what we know about the attack that happened sunday. the park has been closed since that attack happened around 10:00 a.m. when officers confirmed that 6-year-old was attacked by the mountain lion. it was busy out here, too. the parking lot was pretty much full. the attack happening from two

miles from the main lot while the girl was walking up a hill with three other kids and six other adults. one of the adults ran over and punched the mountain lion in the ribs to get it off. dna evidence was collected, officers hope the dna link will help them capture and match that lion. >> we'll have dna evidence from -- if we are successful -- we may not be. we're talking about a lot of terrain, countryside. so we can't say for sure that we're going to be successful capturing it. >> again, the park will remain closed until officers can find the mountain lion or deem this area to be safe. they are saying that while it is pretty rare for someone to spot a mountain lion here in the preserve, this is their territory. so just keep that in mind as you are out and about. reporting live in sclanta clara county, julian glover.

now to the coronavirus, 99 more people on board the diamond princess cruise ship are infected with the virus. that brings the total to 454 people on the ship. officials confirm 14 americans who were evacuated from the ship have tested positive for the virus. they landed back in the u.s. overnight at either travis air force base in fairfield or lackland air force base in san antonio. dr. jennifer ashton talked about why they're being brought back to the united states. >> that's a judgment call about risk versus benefit. risk of staying on that ship versus benefits here in the u.s. where we know how to isolate and contact trace. that is the key to controlling this outbreak. >> 14 passengers were in a specialized containment area on the jet. they will be transported to a appropriate location for continued isolation and care all american passengers who arrive back in the u.s. will be quarantined for 14 days. >> thank you.

passengers on a separate cruise ship found themselves stranded once again. an alameda who was on a holland american cruise ship in asia says she is stuck in cambodia waiting for test results. her ship, the westerdam was turned away from port after port after concerns over coronavirus. now that cruise line says they're canceling a february 29th cruise on the westerdam. in a statement holland america says the difficult decision to cancel this cruise comes after carefully considering the highly dynamic and unpredictable changes seen in the last couple of weeks. the cruise line says guests will receive refunds. so far this is the only cancellation they anticipate. in the north bay, the search is expanding for this missing couple. they are 77-year-old carol kaparski and 72-year-old ian irwin. marin search and rescue called in more ground workers and k-9 teams this is near tomales bay

state park. they will continue their search at 9:00 this morning. the couple was last seen in a rental home around noon on friday. they were supposed to check out on saturday, that didn't happen. they also missed an appointment on sunday. all of their belongs were found in the home. >> we are thinking they left their bnb rental, went for a hike, there's a number of trails in the area and didn't come back. >> police have been interviewing friends and family. anyone with information is asked to call the marin sheriffs department. short-term rental hosts could face hefty fines for violating property laws due to a bill being introduced today. this is in response to a deadly shooting in orinda last year. the shooting happened during a halloween house party at a bnb. glazer's bill would allow cities like orinda to fine short-term rental hosts up to $5,000 for

washington. all right. let's look at what's going on with your forecast. starting off in the east bay valleys, very thick fog through the tri valley and temperatures in the mid 40s. even 47 at pleasanton. cooler in pleasant hill at 42. milder, pittsburg, antioch and brentwood, mid to upper 50s. mid to upper 40s just about everywhere. 41 in napa. 42 in santa rosa. and then 50 in san jose, 53 in los gatos. you can see the fog starting to take over as we look from sutro tower down upon san francisco and over towards the east bay where there's also fog on the increase. so, activity planner today, if you're out and about, you have the day off or if you have to work, feels like spring. catch some lunch outside. fog to hazy sunshine out on the bay with light breezes. our beaches, it will be our coolest areas with mid to upper 60s there. in the north bay, we have that

here's 7 things to know this morning. number one, americans who spent the last 12 days quarantined on the diamond princess amid fears of coronavirus are at travis air force base. a second plane arrived overnight in texas. officials confirm 14 americans are infected with the virus. number two, rancho san antonio county park is temporarily closed after a mountain lion attacked a 6-year-old girl yesterday. she had to be taken to the hospital with puncture wounds to her leg. the search continues in marin county for a missing couple. the couple was last seen on friday at a rental home. authorities say they may have gone out on a hike and never returned. number four, democratic presidential candidate senator bernie sanders will be in the east bay today for a noon rally at the crane way pavilion.

he'll be urging supporters to vote early before the march 3rd primary. here is san jose. not seeing much in the way of fog. plenty of cloud cover out there, that will burn away to temperatures that are 7 to 12 degrees warmer than average. a lot of us in the upper 60s to low 70s. number six, traffic is light but we are certainly experiencing foggy conditions out there. this is a live look showing you the san mateo bridge, you can hardly make out the brake lights at all, just barely seeing hose headlights. film crews were in the city all weekend shooting scenes for the matrix 4. fans flocked to the financial district to see if they could spot keanu reeves. in today's "gma" first look, this woman is in custody in washington state. she's accused of posting as a newborn photographer drugging a mom and then trying to steal her baby. investigators say she may have tried to target multiple moms.

elizabeth hur has the story. >> reporter: in this morning's "gma" first look, fake baby photographer. >> hi. >> reporter: just last year juliet parker was running for mayor of colorado springs, this morning she's behind bars. >> we believe she was attempting to find a small female infant and was going to kidnap the baby. >> reporter: investigators say the 38-year-old posing as a baby portrait photographer reached out to a facebook mom's group offering free newborn photo sessions to build up her portfolio. >> she believed she was drugged and that they were going to take her baby. the during the investigation we determined that was probably the case. >> reporter: coming up at 7:00 a.m., we'll tell you about the other mothers coming forward who say they, too, contacted parker about the photography ad and why law enforcement officials are asking for their help. i'm elizabeth hur, abc news, new york. police have not released the identity of the man suspected of

attacking two women in san francisco's embarcadero. this man wearing a cap and overalls stabbed a woman running along the embarcadero near pier 19 on saturday morning. police say he left on a bike and attacked another woman near pier 39 with some sort of tool. there's no update on their conditions. in san jose, two 14-year-old girls are facing trespassing and vandalism charges. par paramedics rushed one of the girls to the hospital after she drove a golf cart off an unfinished building. this happened at a construction site across from san jose city hall yesterday afternoon. the girl is expected to survive. the teens entered the unfinished building before one of them drove the cart off the second floor. >> one person is recovering after escaping from a burning house in daly city. flames gutted a home on hanover street just after 9:00 on saturday night. the fire heavily damaged the top floor of the house and investigators are still trying to figure out what started the

temperatures this afternoon. it's going to draw in drier air. these temperatures a bit cooler the next couple of mornings. it will be dry most of the week. there's a slight chance sunday of rain. you saw how well our slight chance of rain yesterday worked out. so here's a look at your fog. it's thickest around the bay as we head deeper into the afternoon -- i should say morning commute. by noon it's out of here. a mixture of high clouds and sunshine this an. look at the temperatures, you can pick out the 70s. morgan hill, san jose, palo alto, antioch, oakland, 72 in santa rosa. mid to upper 60s for the rest of us. mid 60s mainly along the coast. tonight, patchy clouds, patchy fog. temperatures from 39 in santa rosa to san francisco, 48. my accuweather seven-day forecast, could be chilly the next couple of morning. look at those afternoons, in the mid to upper 60s away from the coast. even a touch of 70s for friday. the coolest day is sunday. jobina? >> thank you, mike.

good morning. due to the presidents' day holiday there are changes to mass transit. b.a.r.t. will not be opening until 6:00 a.m. ace has ace 3 and 5 running this morning. and the ferries have a modified service. there are some routes canceled. some that are changing as far as departure times. check those schedules because lots of didn't things to talk about with that. live look at emeryville, 80, a few headlights moving towards the maze. metering lights are not on yet. i don't expect them to be because traffic is light for the holiday. moving over to the bay bridge, nice clear ride there. slight fog in the area. we're seeing foggier conditions at san mateo bridge. albany to the maze, about 5 minutes for that drive time. fremont to san jose, 13 minutes. highway 101 to 10-minute ride. carnival celebrations are under way in brazil.

if you have to be out and about, who is this morning in. >> not a whole lot of people this morning. good morning. starting off with a live look here, showing you the golden gate bridge. we are following the fog in the area. i'm bringing back a live look at the san mateo bridge. you can see this low visibility if the area. there's now a crash reported on the san mateo bridge. westbound 92 at the high rise there involving two cars now. at least one lane is blocked. speeds are down to 11 miles per hour. speeds back up to 35 or 34 miles per hour once you get out of there. moving over to livermore, the altamont pass, fog on 580. oakland on 580 and 880 as well some fog. moving up to american canyon, more fog on 29. reggie and kumasi? >> americans who spent the last 12 days quarantined on the diamond princess amid fears of

coronavirus are now at travis air force base. >> their plane landed last night where they will face two more weeks of quarantine. amy hollyfield has more on this. >> the runway is behind us and now they will start their two-week long quarantine. they landed here at travis and also a plane of evacuees went to texas. they have already been in isolation for two weeks and now face another two weeks of quarantine. they were on board the diamond princess cruise ship off the coast of japan. officials say that more than 350 people on board had tested positive for the coronavirus. we talked to one man who said they were kept very comfortable on the ship during their quarantine. >> we're well cared for. i don't know how you could consider anything being scary or out of sorts with what we're confronted with, especially with

what the crew and captain are confronted with. >> reporter: rooms here at travis probably a bit bigger than on ship. we got this glimpse into the rooms two weeks ago when americans from china were brought here. we're told these new arrivals will not be mingling with the evacuees who were already here. at this point, no one has been reported to have the virus here at travis air force base. we will get updates later on this morning at a press conference with the cdc. reporting live at travis air force base, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> in san antonio texas, the second plane carrying evacuees from that ship arrived overnight. anyone two tests positive or shows symptoms will be transferred to an off-base facility regulated by the cdc. japanese officials confirm 99 more people have been infected by the coronavirus on board the diamond princess cruise ship. that brings the total to 454. the outbreak surpassed 1700

the number of cases keeps growing. the virus infected more than 71,000 people worldwide. before the planes landed, there were 15 confirmed cases in the u.s. that number has nearly doubled when the 14 additional infected passengers arrived. officials at the port of oakland say they're starting to worry about the economic impact of coronavirus. international travel and shipping has taken a hit. travel restrictions and quarantines slowed chinese manufacturing and that's led shipping lines to cancel cargo trips. port officials say there is good news, they have seen a rise in shipments from oakland to asia since the trade war with china cooled. pknow you have about coronaviru including the symptoms and the best way to protect yourself, we have answers to your top seven questions en our website, abc7news.com. a crash in the south bay left one person dead.

it happened last night on agnew road and lafayette street in santa clara. it's unclear what happened but a body was found in the middle of the street. a black car was found nearby with damage on it we have calls into the police department for more information. rancho san antonio county park in santa clara county is temporarily closed. >> that's because a mountain lion attacked a 6-year-old girl yesterday. she was walking up the hill when the animal got ahold of her. park officials say that she had to be taken to the hospital with puncture wounds to her leg. neighbors say they were aware of a mountain lion population on hills but were shocked about the attack. it's not clear when the park will reopen. new details this morning on the police shooting at an east bay b.a.r.t. station. b.a.r.t. police say a person is recovering from that gunshot wound and he is a 17-year-old boy. he is expected to survive. the shooting happened on saturday afternoon at the el cerrito station. officers were responding to a

domestic disturbance call when they saw the suspect. the witness reported the witness had a gun. when officers confronted him, the 17-year-old ran and ended up on the tracks. b.a.r.t. police say the 17-year-old produced a gun and was shot. his name has not been released. three people are safe after being rescued from a small boat that washed up along a san francisco beach. firefighters used ropes to secure the boat yesterday afternoon. the national park service has not said what caused the boat to run ashore. it remained anchored overnight. a salvage company will remove the boat from the beach today. democratic presidential candidates senator bernie sanders will be in it the east bay today for a rally in richmond. yesterday two bay area women were arrested after they interrupted his valley in nevada. >> bernie, i'm your biggest supporter. i'm asking you to stop propping up the dairy industry. >> one woman ran on to the stage, grabbed that mic and

north on 880, you can see the oakland arena, the coliseum as you pan to the right and you're looking north towards the maze, you can see how thick the fog is. we have fog in san francisco also. temperatures from 45 in the sunset, lake merced to bayview, crissy field, excelsior, 50. heading to downtown, about 45 degrees there. we have 48 in daly city with thick fog. pleasanton thick fog and 47. same thing, thick fog in american canyon and about 36. san mateo bridge, at least on the eastern side, hayward, we're looking to the west, we can't look more than a couple hundred feet. that's your biggest issue driving around this morning. cool but then warm this afternoon if you're taking mass transit. foggy spots on the bay, hazy sunshine this afternoon. for the peninsula, fog this morning. mid 60s from 1:00 to 6:00. east bay valleys, thicking from until about 9:00.

tesla has run into a road block in an effort to expand its global reach. a court in germany put the brakes on construction of a new car and battery plant. tesla has been clearing trees near berlin to make room for the factory. yesterday a court ordered tesla to stop. the order is intended to give environmental activists fighting the factory to make their case. the san rafael fire department is testing a new strategy for responding to nonemergency 911 calls. officials say it's a frequent problem that puts a drain on resources. a nurse practitioner and social service worker will respond to 911 calls that they don't think will require the person to be taken to the hospital. an ambulance will still respond but the direct connect team will take over if appropriate. in the north bay bring cash with you if you're visiting point reyes today or tomorrow. the only gas station in town can't accept credit cards now.
