now at 5:00 a.m., this couple missing for four days in marin county. what we know about their disappearance and the extensive search efforts. good morning to you on this tuesday, february 18. >> here is jobina with weather and traffic. visibility is looking great. no fog in the area right now so you can see across the board a smooth commute this morning and that is the headline as far as our weather. look at this. no cloud cover in san francisco right now from our exploratorium camera. our roof camera, a beautiful sight. we have for the inland it's going to be around 9:00 a.m., some fog and haze. for the most part it will move ot. noon, 62. 67 at 4:00 p.m. down to 9:00 p.m. a little cooler at night. the bay, 52 in the morning. 62 at noon. and then 65 at 4:00 p.m. the coast 52 as well at 9:00 a.m.

59 at noon. 56 around 4:00 p.m. dropping to 46 degrees at 9:00 p.m. we have major issues in traffic. a sig alert in emeryville. this roll over crash. all lanes are blocked right now as you can see. this is westbound 80 just before powell. this is going to start two problems. obviously a backup. things are light at the bay bridge. once people get through this it will be a rough spot there. if 80 is a part of your morning commute, i suggest you leave later this morning or consider another route. i also have two other crashes i want to talk about. a power pole is down past highway 84. in south san jose we have a three-car crash, at least one lane is blocked right now.

new this morning fire heavily damages a home in pleasant hill. you can see the smoke and big flames. firefighters rushed to the home around 2:45 this morning. everyone inside the home safely evacuated. firefighters got it under control in about 45 minutes. we don't know yet what caused the fire. the search will assume at 8:00 for this missing couple in point reyes. they haven't been seen since friday. 130 personnel helped search for them yesterday. amy hollyfield is live with the very latest on this search. amy? >> reporter: good morning, kumasi. sheriff's deputies say the couple left behind their cell phones, their wallets and their car, all at their airbnb rental home, a sign they think the couple intended to return to the home, so they're focusing on that as an issue they must be in

some kind of discretion. they say the search for 77-year-old carol kiparsky and 72-year-old ian irwin is getting more urgent each day. the couple was reported missing on saturday when they did not check out of their inverness airbnb rental. search and rescue crews focused on the area near the point reyes national sea shore. the couple loves to hike and knows the area very well. investigators say they're staying positive. >> we still believe there's a strong likelihood they could be alive and that's why we have so many people looking for them. >> reporter: 136 search and rescue volunteers walked through dense vegetation in the hills while drones searched from up above. we're told the couple's family is flying in to help.

>> thank you, amy. the couple lives on the peninsula and rents out three rooms in their palo alto home. their tenants say the couple has gone camping and hiking in the past but it's not like them to vanish like this. >> they like camping. they usually go a couple days or so. usually they always are back on time and email if plans will change or something. >> that tenant said he last heard from them on wednesday. they left an email with instructions to bring the paper in and turn off the porch lights. the message ended with happy valentine's day. new details on a high speed chase and crash in the east bay. officers detained four boys in the car, they arrested the driver. the officer tried to pull over the car but the driver didn't stop. the car eventually crashed in

bay point. the chp says the boys tried to run after the crash but officers surrounded them. they are thankful no one was hurt. the number of people infected with coronavirus has risen to 542. japanese officials confirmed 88 more cases overnight. "gma" spoke with a woman quarantined while her husband is still back in tokyo. he tested positive for the virus. she talked about the experience of flying back to the u.s. >> we were exposed to each other sitting next to each other in our seats. we don't know who was or who wasn't. we had to just protect ourselves. >> coming up a live report from nebraska where infected americans from the cruise ship are being monitored at 7:00 here after abc 7 mornings. san francisco is reportedly expected a record number of

cruise ships to arrive this year. according to "the chronicle" 117 are scheduled this year up from 85 last year. officials don't believe any ships will stay away but are monitoring the situation. san francisco is a premier destination for many tourists. it's official, a billionaire newcomer, former new york city mayor michael bloomberg. he qualified because of a new npr poll shows him at 19% support nationally. that puts him in second place with bernie sanders ahead at 31%. some believe the former mayor is trying to buy this election. how would you feel about being forced to vote? mark lavine is introducing a bill to make it mandatory

bankruptcy protection. that filing comes after a number of lawsuits from thousands of abuse victims. according to "the wall street journal" it will compensate victims while protecting money held by local councils. john bolton made his first public appearance since president trump's impeament trial. he spoke at duke university yesterday. reporters were only allowed to record the beginning of bolton's remarks. abc news has obtained the full audio. bolton says he hopes the white house will allow him to publish his book. >> it's not been my intention to reveal any classified information but to tell people what actually went on so that they can judge for themselves whether it's appropriate. >> his book, bolton says, the president ordered him to put pressure on ukraine to get information on political rivals. a big debate, should you recline your seat on an airplane? video shows a woman trying to put her seat back while the man

involving a big rig. this shows you that big rig across the lanes and what we know now it looks like there are two other crashes in the backup. traffic is being diverted. you can see traffic directed off to the shoulder and this one lane is causing two problems because i'm looking off to the side. that is empty. once this does clear up, we will see another backup there. again, this is westbound 80. i want to get to two other things, the backup. it extends quite far into albany and then move down to the sig alert here on northbound 35 past highway 84 in wood side where we have a power pole down blocking all lanes. so if find yourself eating more unhealthy food it may be

>> reporter: nascar star after this crash. just before the end of the daytona 500, hurtling down the track on its roof. >> a shower of sparks on its roof. newspaper was in the lead when his car spun and hit the wall head-on. it went airborne and hit the car with cory lajoie. crews rushed to put out the flames. spectator stunned. >> it was easy to see the wreck because it happened directly in front of us where we were standing. it was difficult to see after that because of how far the car slid after that. they had to cut the roof off his car to get him out. >> reporter: emts rushed the 42-year-old to the hospital. the vehicle a mangled mess as it was later hauled off the track. denny hamlin won by a fraction of a second, his second straight

the bay 50 and coast 46. now over to that breaking news in emeryville. a live look showing you westbound 80. injuries have been reported there. one lane there slightly over the shoulder. car parts in the roadway and another crash in this backup that extends more than 4 1/2 miles. injuries have also been reported in this crash. this has turned into such a mess. i can tell you that the bay bridge toll plaza is very light. traffic is being diverted off at university. we'll have a second wave. past highway 84 there's a downed

power line blocking all lanes. >> what a morning. a crash involving this lyft driver on the bay bridge. the front of the car is badly damage the. it hand near the treasure island off ramp. we don't know how the driver is doing or if there are any passengers in the car. >> a state lawmaker is hoping tougher penalties will lead to less car break-ins. >> how this would help to build a better bay area. >> reporter: you're usually pretty good about taking your phone and other valuables outside the car. let's say today you forget the work laptop inside but a thief sees it, busts that window and steals it. we're hoping if this assemblyman has his way that next car break-in would be considered a felony.

americans will be in quarantine for at least two weeks in medical isolation. this morning 14 americans evacuated from a cruise ship in japan who tested positive for coronavirus are back in the u.s. ten have already tested positive for the virus. now officially named covid-19. on that diamond princess cruise ship in japan, more cases found. so far 542 cruise passengers have been infected. passenger jerry larson was one of those stuck at sea. >> it was fine. we were well taken care of. we were very lucky. we had a bigger room and a full balcony. they fed us well. i felt they were taking extremely good care of us. >> reporter: a second flight of evacuated americans from japan, at least four of those passengers testing positive and across the globe coronavirus crossing more than 2 dozen countries while world health officials work to stop the spread. >> we're providing advice to countries on how to do

screening, testing, and treatment. >> reporter: all but two cases are linked to travel to wuhan, china, the center of the outbreak. there are a lot of questions about coronavirus including symptoms and the best way to protect yourself. you can find answers at abc7news.com. developing news in the east bay where police are looking for the suspect who attacked and robbed a postal worker. it happened yesterday afternoon. the suspect attacd the letter carrier, stole some of the mail in his truck. the attack hammed on oxford treat at the corner of the cal campus. police say they escaped heading north on oxford street. >> it's a standing reward. it's not something we have to ask for. it's a reward that's always there up to $50,000 for information leading to arrest and conviction of the individual or individuals responsible for this robbery. >> now just before 6:00 last night two men held up a person on oxford street just four

blocks from the mail theft and got away in a white sedan. they haven't said if they think they are connected. jurors in harvey weinstein's -- >> i'll take it from here. he is charged with raping a woman in a manhattan hotel room in 2013. he's also accused of forcibly performing a sex act on another in 2006. prosecutors say weinstein was a sexual predator who thought he could get away with anything. defense attorneys claim the women had consensual sex with him because they thought it might help their careers. happening today the sfmta will consider a report on some dramatic changes to parking in the city. it's aimed at making the city less congested. here are some of the proposals. to extend hours for all meters, no more free parking on sundays. eliminating placard use in the green zones, and street sweepers to ticket for double parking and parking on sweeping days.
