search and rescue teams hiking through the night, looking for this marin county man who went missing in the woods. a woman attacked by a stranger in her own home. mountainview police are looking for anyone else. cooler today. i'll let you know if this trend is going to continue through the weekend. abc7 news at 11:00 starts right now. >> now from abc7 news, live breaking news. >> breaking news. sheriff's deputies have been searching all night long for a 76-year-old novato man. robert bennett hasn't been seen since going for a search. this is on top of a search for a palo alto couple who vanished from their airbnb on friday. there. >> is a lot of action at big rock bridge between novato and san rafael. kate larsen is live from the trail head with the latest. kate? >> look, it's been very quiet out here on the trailhead for the past few hours, and 20

minutes ago i noticed a flurry of activity. take a look. we hopped out and saw an atv zip past us on to the trail and dozens of personnel, many with backpacks, rescue gear. i saw all sorts of people. medical personnel with medical equipment. now all of the sudden the neighborhood is filled with people. we have no official word on if they found someone, if it's robert bennett, or what condition he may be in. but here's what the search for him today has been like. >> okay, so they want us to do that. so from the trail head. >> search and rescue hikers mapped the route as they canvassed wooded trails near big rock ridge in marin county open space, who never returned from a president's day hike. eric jorgensen sees bennett hiking several times a week. >> seems like an active strong

guy. i'm surprised that he is missing. he didn't seem at all like typical. >> before sunset, a chp helicopter circled the canyon, looking for signs of bennett. >> when you go hiking or running back there, is there cell phone reception? >> no. >> reporter: his home surveillance cameras show bennett walking towards the woods just before 1:30 monday afternoon. >> i'm kind of concerned because i go trail running a lot in the canyon. and sometimes i'm wondering what happens if something happens to me and how i can be found. >> besides the helicopter, the marin county sheriff brought out their drone and deployed 50 people on the ground. as well as five k-9 teams which picked up scents from bennett's jeep which is still parked down the street from the trail. so we saw all of these rescue prsonnel head up the trail behind me, but we haven't seen

anyone come back down. it could indicate that they're quite deep into the canyon. we will be out here to bring you the latest to bring you exactly what the developments are. certainly something changed out here on the trailhead. the other thing we know the sheriffs are doing is they're trying to ping bennett's cell phone. they have a ping, but it was a quarter mile wide so they've been working with the carrier to narrow that signal to try to figure out where he is. as soon as we learn anything new, we'll try to bring to it you here or on our website. live in san rafael, i'm kate larsen, abc7 news. back to you. >> okay, kate, thank you. searchers looking for a palo alto couple missing in point reyes turned up empty handed today. efforts to locate 77-year-old carol kiparsky and 72-year-old ian irwin will resume at first light. they plan to search the water off inverness, not far from the airbnb that the couple rented out. the couple has bee missing since friday.

they're looking into their financial records to try to determine the moment the couple disappeared. >> if we're able to get a transaction that say took place sunday, then we know they were most likely somewhere on sunday. >> search teams were joined by family members. irwin's son says his dad is an experienced hiker. terrifying moments for a woman in mountain view after a man forced her way into her home. she fought him off. the suspec was arrested hours later. it happened late last night. abc7 news reporter amanda del castillo spoke with the victim. she joins us live from police headquarters. amanda? >> ama, this time last night, mountain view police are still searching for the man they say is responsible for this attempted kidnapping. they say he burst into the victim's home and grabbed her by her neck. tonight he is in jail. there usually isn't much action on this court. she figured her neighbor needed help. the woman found a stranger on

her doorstep, a man she says violently forced her way inside. police have identified the suspect as 33-yearold jeremiah porter. >> he threaten me. i cannot raise my voice, talk and then he took my neck. >> suspect bloody fingers or blood somewhere. >> the victim told us porter insisted he was being chase bade group of people who wanted to hurt him. the victim says she spoke calmly, offering help. >> he listen but he grab me and tried to push me to the car. but i run out. >> she broke free, but porter got away. hours later at 3:15 a.m., he was spotted in a neighboring complex. residents there called police to report the man's bizarre behavior. >> he was shouting and throwing walks at windows on top of a carport. >> the victim and her husband believe porter may have been part of the area's growing homeless population.

their sense of safety is shaken. >> i'm really concerned about it now, and i it here. >> they're asking anyone who may have encountered him to contact pd. he was arrested on suspicion of robbery, attempted kidnapping, and parole violation. in mountain view, i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. >> thank you. breaking news news to tell you about now. a firefighter was killed when a large fire engulfed a library in the small central california town of porterville. another firefighter is missing, but they won't be able to search for him until the fire is out. that fire broke out just after 4:00 p.m. more than 50 firefighters are at the scene. police are working with fire officials to determine if this fire was intentionally set. developing news from the south bay. a woman's body has been found inside a home in an unincorporated san jose neighborhood near alum rock

park. sheriff's deputies were called to a residence on mountain view avenue just after 3:30 this afternoon. the coroner and homicide detectives are also on the scene. happening now, 500 passengers on the quarantined diamond princess cruise liner in yokohama, japan, are being let off the ship. >> criticism of japan's handling of the quarantine is intensifying tonight with many now saying the ship became a fertile breeding ground for coronavirus. >> a much criticized two-week quarantine on board the diamond princess cruise liner is nearing its end. passengers have started to get off the ship, a process that's happening over the next several days and under close observation by japanese health officials. novato resident rick saber and his wife were evacuated from the ship over the weekend. both are in quarantine at lackland air force base in texas. >> when we got to the airport, we were slowly loaded on to the two giant air cargo 747-400ss the flight back.

a woman accused of posing as a photographer and drugging a mother in order to abduct a baby made her first court appearance today. >> this comes as another mother says she also hired the suspect to take pictures. romina pulga is on the story. >> over the weekend police arresting juliette parker for allegedly posing as a baby photographer in a plot to kidnap an infant by posting a facebook ad for free newborn photo sessions. today the 48-year-old made her first court appearance, and the woman who claims parker came to her home, allegedly drugged her and tried to kidnap her baby spoke out for the first time. >> i don't like being at home. i'm not sleeping. i'm not eating. >> the woman known as alicia claims parker came to her home on three occasions for free photo shoots. on the third visit parker and her teenaged daughter brought cupcakes and wine with them. >> she offered me a cup of wine and pressured me to feel the

i wish we could tell you there are storms lined up to hit the bay area because we're so behind. but yet once again another system is developing in the pacific and it looks like it's going to cut off from the main flow, skirt the california coast before it heads into southern california. so we're not left with a whole lot. let me show you what we average here in the bay area in terms of our rainfall. but before we get to that system brings us a slim chance friday, a 10% chance of seeing an isolated shower or a sprinkle. but it's not going to be a game changer. so typical february average rainfall. san francisco and oakland just over 4 inches. santa rosa gets above half a foot of rain. and so far nothing measurable. livermore gets just over 3 inches and same thing with san jose. if we continue on this track and close out the entire month of february without any rainfall, it would tie with 1864 where there was no measurable rain. let's hope we don't break that record. as we take a look here from our san jose camera, shark tank

visible right now. temperatures in the 40s and 50s as we look at another live picture from our east bay hills camera. you can see the fog. foggy areas in the morning. mild in the afternoon again. isolated showers or sprinkles friday, and no major storms are in sight for the next week. so first thing in the morning, watch out for the fog. it is going to be thick around 5:00 to 8:00 near the bay and the coastline. and later on in the day the fog will pull away. temperatures mid 30s to the upper 40s. for the afternoon, expect temperatures in the low 60s along the coast. san francisco, half moon bay. 68 in santa rosa. still above average, vallejo, oakland, mid-60s along with concord. 68 in san jose. 66 palo alto. we're going show you what's going to happen. the system skirts the coast. a few sprinkles or light shower not out of the question. certainly sierra snow south of tahoe and southern california rain. second system sunday pushes into the pacific northwest. where many of our storms are been going. and unfortunately, we're left high and dry.
