investigation just outside of san jose. santa clara county deputies searched for clues overnight at a house where a woman was found dead. the sheriff's office says deputies got to the house on mountain view avenue yesterday afternoon and found her body. homicide detectives were called in to investigate. this morning police are looking for more people who might know a man accused of attacking a woman in her own home. they caught this guy, but they want to know what he was doing in the days before. julian glover is live for us in mountain view. julian? >> good morning. the 53-year-old woman who does not want to be identified lives on montalena court. she said the 33-year-old suspect rang her doorbell over and over again. when she finally answered t he rushed her, grabbed her by the neck and it was a violent incident that happened here. here's a picture of the man now in police custody. his name is jeremiah porter.

this morning police want to hear from you if you had interactions with this man in the days leading up to the attack. the victim says she was eventually able to get away, running to a neighbor's home for safety. throughout the incident she said the man kept saying he needed to get out of the area. even tried to steal her car. he was eventually arrested by police on suspicion of robbery, attempted kidnapping and parole violation, northities just trying to get a better idea of what this man, jeremiah porter was doing in the mountain view area any time between friday and monday night when this incident happened. reporting live in mountain view, julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you. happening today, more coronavirus evacuees quarantined for the last two weeks at travis air force base are set to be released. meanwhile an american evacuated from the diamond princess cruise ship in japan to travis air force base is now confirmed to have the virus. that patient is now at queen of the valley medical center in

better mental health care to help homeless people. the homeless population jumped 16% last year. governor newsom said he wants to improve the state's behavioral health system. there's growing outrage over i i.c.e. arrests. at least three people were arrested outside the santa rosa courthouse on tuesday. the arrests prevented those people from appearing in court for their cases. a new report says san francisco mayor london breed may have received a gift from another person involved in the city's political corruption scandal. according to the examiner, lefty o'doul's owner nick bovis may have paid $1,250 for a parade float in 2015 when breed was on the board of supervisors. bovis was arrested alongside mohammed nuru who is facing corruption charmges.

it's 5:13, here's 7 things to know. number one, crime scene tape up in santa clara county. deputies arenvestigating a homicide at a home on mountain view avenue. a woman was found dead there yesterday afternoon. investigators returned overnight to look for clues. number two, a missing hiker from novato who went missing on monday while hiking in marin county open space has been rescued. two k-9 dogs located 76-year-old robert bennett off of a trail around 10:30 last night. a separate search for this missing couple in marin county resumes today. 77-year-old carol kaparski and ian irwin were last seen at their airbnb friday. number four, this morning a

second round of buses will leave travis air force base with people who are being released after completing their coronavirus quarantine. the first bus left yesterday. officials say there's no health risk from any of those people. and number five in accuweather, it's a warm winter day again. look at these numbers. a lot of sunshine, 63 in the city. 64 in oakland. san jose near 70 later on today. number six, our problem spot is the bay bridge headed in the westbound direction just past treasure island. we did have a stalled car blocking one lane. it cleared up now. it's going to be slow getting across. speeds are around 19 miles per hour. number seven, burger king is betting on moldy whoppers to sell more food. the fast food giant unveiled this new commercial that shows a whopper slowly decaying. >> un-huh. >> no. bk -- bk -- >> oh. >> bk thinks this will catch on with millennials who want food

the solano sheriff's office moved in and arrested that american. the chp plane recorded the whole thing. san francisco is marking 50 years of pride. abc7 news was at city hall where mayor london breed and other officials kicked off the 2020 festivities yesterday. breed says the celebration marks an important milestone in our achievements. a parade will be held in downtown san francisco on sunday, june 28th. the theme is generations of hope. prince harry and meghan markle's plan to step away from royal duties may impact their ability to make money. a royal source telling abc news that the queen will ban harry and meghan from using sussex royal for branding for their various enterprises. meghan and harry already set up a website and it may have to change. discussions are still ongoing but sources say those talks will likely end with harry and meghan not being able to use the word

a stalled car past treasure island on the upper deck of the bridge, that has been moved out of the way. speeds are down to about 19 miles per hour approaching it. live look in san jose, 87, nice and clear there as well. and of course our drive times, we have antioch to hercules, 27 minutes. highway 4 to the maze, 14 minutes. highway 85 to the san jose airport, 7 minutes. uber is rolling out a new tool called on trip reporting. it lets you report uncomfortable rides in real time. for example, you can document behavior like reckless driving or inappropriate questions. it will send details to uber's safety team while it's happening. you can find the incident reporting tool located in the app's safety toolkit. blue apron is considering a potential sale or merger. >> the meal kit company had a rough few years. the number of customers and orders dropped by a third last year. blue apron has also been dealing with employee lawsuits as well as layoffs.

bay hills camera. i know it's dark. you can see some low clouds drifting through the east bay. in the north bay, patchy dense fog down to zero miles visibility from santa rosa to petaluma. so the 12-hour day planner, patchy fog first thing. the coldest spot in the 30s. that sunshine will warm us up quickly. by 4:00, that steady pattern of warm afternoons continues with temperatures into the 60s. this morning ryan newman is awake and speaking with family and doctors following monday's horrific crash on the final lap of the daytona 500. yesterday his racing team released the update about 20 hours after newman's car slammed into the wall at nearly 200 miles per hour. it flipped over and then was t boned by another car, flipped over more times and skidded to a halt in flames. following the crash he was

transported to the hospital where he is in serious condition. flu season is reaching its peak. check out this map from the cdc. it shows the weekly progression of patients seeking treatment for the flu. many states change from the lowest level in green who the highest level in red. there's been about 14,000 flu related deaths this season and two types of flu, "a" and "b." >> they are both prevalent, both virulent strains and cause serious conditions with pneumonia, hospitalizations and even death. doctors say type "a" is more common this year, so they encourage people still at this point to get your flu shot. a san francisco icon is returning to the bay area with a promise of a big homecoming. >> san francisco's aids memorial quilt returned to the bay area yesterday after a showing in atlanta. the quilt will be displayed in robin williams meadow as part of

gatos, 21 minutes. >> new overnight a driver going the wrong way on the bay bridge is being blamed for this crash. it happened around midnight on the lower deck at treasure island. a car was going the wrong way on the ti off-ramp and another vehicle swerved to avoid it. it slammed into the center divide barrier. the other vehicle that started this also stopped. we reached out to chp for more details. new this morning, search crews have rescued a missing hiker from novato who went missing on monday while hiking in the marin county open space. >> 76-year-old roger bennett went on a hike but had not been seen since monday afternoon. abc7 news was in marin county shortly after rescue crews saved him last night. officials say two k-9 dogs located bennett off of a trail at 10:30 at night. a helicopter had to be called in to transport him because of the steep terrain.

it was determined to be safer to walk him out of the area. he was loaded on to a retcher and taken to an ambulance. >> i think we owe it to the k-9 teams around here. without them and the assistance of the search and rescue members assigned to them and the expansive search, i don't know that we could have been able to find him without the k-9s. >> bennett was taken to the hospital. crews are looking for a palo alto couple missing in point reyes will resume their search at day brik theak this morning. 77-year-old carol kiparsky and 72-year-old ian irwin vanished friday. the marin county sheriff's office plans to search the waters off inverness, not far from the airbnb where the couple rented. investigators say they're looking into the couple's financial records to try to democrat their movements before they went missing. >> if we can get a transaction that took place sunday, then we know they were most likely somewhere on sunday. >> search teams were joined by

family members yesterday. irwin's son says his dad is an experienced hiker but admits his mind is going wild with the possibilities of the what-ifs. a second round of buses is leaving travis air force base filled with people finally heading home now that their 14-day coronavirus quarantine is over. >> officials say they pose no health risk to the public. amy hollyfield is live on the base this morning. amy? >> hi, reggie. a happy day here for people who were stuck here for two weeks. one bus left yesterday, another bus will leave this morning. their loved ones are happy to see them. one father was seen greeting his son who was quarantined for two weeks at travis air force base. the dad flew from minnesota to sfo to see his son, tanner, saying he felt helpless while his son was isolated. tanner had a letter proving he was clear of the coronavirus. >> there's a letter of freedom? >> yeah, it lets me out of the

quarantine. it's definitely a letter of freedom. >> we were lucky at the travis air force base where i was, no one was diagnosed or showed symptoms. so, everyone seemed to be in good health there. i wasn't worried at any point when i was there. >> 180 americans were evacuated from wuhan, china two weeks ago and brought to travis air force base to be quarantined. they were the first but more have followed. monday americans who had been trapped on a cruise ship off of the coast of japan were brought to travis air force base, and they will now do their own two weeks here. the people who are leaving today are set to depart for the airport in buses at 7:00 this morning. live at travis air force base, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> i'm sure they cannot wait to leave. thank you. must have been quite an ordeal. thanks. this morning supervisors will get an update on the status of the coronavirus in santa clara county.

two people there tested positive. officials declared a local health emergency as a precaution. in the north bay, a patient with coronavirus is now being treated at queen of the valley medical center in napa. another person with symptoms is being monitored. both were passengers on the diamond princess cruise ship in japan. nine people evacuated to travis air force base late sunday night were identified as needing hospitalization or testing. seven of them are in solano county hospitals. other passengers who were on that flight are being quarantined at travis air force base for the next two weeks. in china, new virus cases have fallen to 1,749. there were 136 new deaths putting the toll at more than 2,000. new developments this morning in the central valley where at least one firefighter has died and another is missing. they were battling a fire at a library in porterville. last night the sheriff tweeted prayers for the porterville city fire department they lost two

brave men in a library fire this evening. it broke out after 4:00 p.m. yesterday. more than 50 firefighters worked all night to get the fire knocked down. the building reportedly had no sprinklers inside. police are working with fire officials to determine if this is arson. your voice, your vote. it's looking good for senator bernie sanders in california. we're less than two weeks away from our primary and a new poll finds that sanders is the favorite among democratic voters with 32% support. he's got a big lead ahead of joe biden who trails behind with 14%. then senator elizabeth warren at 13%. michael bloomberg and pete buttigieg each have 12%. new developments about attorney general william barr. sources tell abc news that barr has discussed possibly resigning if president trump continues to tweet about the justice department's criminal investigations. this comes hours after trump defied barr's public pleas to

the time is 5:43 a.m. we are tracking that fog in the north bay. it's dense from santa rosa to petaluma. down to zero miles visibility. elsewhere, where you see the number 10, we are doing just fine. so the next three days, today we have that fog to sunshine. it's a warm afternoon. it's a steady pattern through thursday and on friday our warmest spots go into the low 70s. there is a chance of some late night drizzle. we'll look at the weekend forecast in the seven-day in about four minutes. police in southern california are reviewing an incident where officers beat a suspect on the ground. cell phone video captured the beating on saturday. long beach police officers hit that suspect several times with a baton even though he was already pinned to the ground. police say the video only shows part of the incident. they say the suspect was a parolee who tried to carjack several vehicles in the area.

they say he resisted officers who tried to arrest him. in a development in a brazen robbery in oakland. one suspect who attacked and robbed a man in this driveway in this video is in custody. he's the guy with the long hair and red pants on. he's also the suspect in a robbery in richmond. investigators say he was in a car involved in a police chase on i-5. oakland police say the man cut his hair, he was planning to leave the state. the other robbery suspect is still out there. former governor of illinois, rod blagojevich is out of prison. >> president trump pardoned him among others. back in 2011, blagojevich was convicted of corruption after trying to sell the senate seat of then president-elect barack obama. he served 8 years of a 14-year sentence. the president said his sentence was excessive. blagojevich was once a contestant on mr. trump's show,
