slowed things down. outside of that, once you get past treasure island, good to go from there. looking at san jose, 101, nice and clear. drive times here, everything is good. albany to the maze, slowdown at 6 minutes. new details this morning about a homicide investigation just outside of san jose. santa clara county deputies searched for clues overnight at a house where a woman was found dead. the sheriff's office says deputies got to the house on mountain view avenue yesterday afternoon and found her body. homicide detectives were called in to investigate. this morning police are looking for more people who might know a man accused of attacking a woman in her own home. they caught this guy, but they want to know what he was doing in the days before. julian glover is live for us in mountain view. julian? >> good morning. she was grabbed, she was choked and almost kidnapped monday night. now this morning the 53-year-old

victim says she no longer wants to live in mountain view. this morning police arrested the suspect, but they still want to hear from you. stop and look at this picture. this is 33-year-old jeremiah porter. police believe he is the man who attacked the victim at her home on montalena court monday night. police want to hear from you if you had sper interactions with man leading up to monday. she was able to get away from the attacker by running to a neighbor's house to safety. >> he threatened me. i cannot raise my voice, talk. he choked my neck. >> a terrifying incident right there. you can imagine why she no longer wants to live in the area. shaken up by what happened to her. she has no clue why she was attacked. authorities are trying to find out what porter was doing in the

area, in mountain view in the days leading up to that attack. if you had any interaction with him between friday night and monday night, police want to hear from you. reporting live in mountain view, julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you. happening today, more coronavirus evacuees quarantined for the last two weeks at travis air force base are set to be released. meanwhile an american evacuated from the diamond princess cruise ship in japan to travis air force base is now confirmed to have the virus. that patient is now at queen of the valley medical center in napa. a second patient evacuated from the ship is showing symptoms and is hospitalized. 80 more people are sick on the diamond princess but hundreds of others were allowed to leave today after testing negative for the virus. democrats hoping to challenge president trump for the white house will take to the debate stage in las vegas tonight. for the first time we'll see former new york city mayor michael bloomberg up at the podium. his 2020 rivals cri cri cri

this is his fourth visit to california as president. governor newsom is expected to deliver his state of the state address to lawmakers in sacramento this morning. he is expected to call for better mental health care to help homeless people. the homeless population jumped 16% last year. governor newsom said he wants to improve the state's behavioral health system. there's growing outrage over i.c.e. arrests in sonoma county. federal immigration agents arrested at least three people outside the courthouse in santa rosa on tuesday. the arrests prevented those people from appearing in court for their cases. the county's district attorney and public defender condemned the arrests. they say they undermine public safety and trust between local immigrants and authorities. a big blow for pg&e. the utility company says they lost 3$3.6 billion in the last quarter of 2019. that's because pg&e paid a settlement it reached with wildfire victims. the company lost 7$7.7 billion

last year. it also filed for bankruptcy. pg&e says it is on track to exit chapter 11 by the end of june. san francisco mayor london breed may have received a gift from another person involved in the city's political corruption scandal. according to the examiner, lefty o'doul's owner nick bovis may have paid $1,250 for a parade float in 2015 when breed was on the board of supervisors. bovis was arrested alongside mohammed nuru who is facing corruption charges. last week mayor breed said nuru gifted her $6,000 by having her car repaired and securing her a rental vehicle. we reached out to the mayor's office for comment. >> check the websites, reviews, check to see if they have a business license. ask for references. be very careful. a mother's warning after

hearing from the alleged victim about what happened. alysha miller said she contacted juliet parker through a facebook mom's group. she said parker offered free newborn sessions to build up her portfolio. she met with her three times, but on the third time she says parker pressured her to eat cupcakes that police believe were drugged. then miller felt sick and she asked parker to leave. >> a machete goes with every room i'm in. the kids have to stay in the room i'm in at all times, if she came back, i would be able to protect them. >> investigators say parker allegedly asked a former boyfriend if he could get a date rape drug, that was back in november. she said she joked about kidnapping a child as a last resort and said she would marry him if he found her a baby girl. >> this is so wild. the person accused of pointing a laser at a california

highway patrol plane is in custody. the pilot got hit in the eye but was able to keep the plane under cntrol because autopilot was engaged. there was a camera on board that helped to pinpoint the location of the suspect. the solano sheriff's office moved in and arrested that person. you can watching the chp plane recording that whole arrest. uber is rolling out a new tool called on trip reporting. this lets you report uncomfortable rides in realtime. you can document behavior like reckless driving or inappropriate questions. it's going to send those details to uber's safety team while you're still on the ride. you can find the incident reporting tool in the app's safety toolkit. general mills is trying to revive cereal sales with a cereal that costs $13 a box. the morning summit cereal has

it shows the weekly progression of patients seeking treatment for the flu. many states change from the lowest level that you see marked in green to the highest level in red. there's been about 14,000 flu related deaths this season and two types of flu, "a" and "b." they are both virulent. a san francisco icon is returning to the bay area with a promise of a big homecoming. >> san francisco's aids memorial quilt returned to the bay area yesterday after a showing in atlanta. the quilt will be displayed in robin williams meadow as part of a wider celebration of golden state park's 150th anniversary. it was conceived by cleve jones in 1985. when it's on full display the quilt will contain 2,000 panels. that three-day display begins april 3rd. it will be free to the public. >> mcdonald's is bringing back a minty treat to celebrate st. patrick's day.

and dense between santa rosa and petaluma. says 1 is about 15 minutes behind schedule. b.a.r.t. and ferries are on time. a live look showing you oakland, 880 at the coliseum. those headlights making their way south. and look at this beautiful shot in san jose. that's sunrise over 280. ww. gorgeous morning out there. reggie and kumasi? >> thanks. new overnight, a driver going the wrong way on the bay bridge is being blamed for a crash. this happened around midnight on the lower deck at treasure island. a car was going the wrong way on the ti off-ramp and another vehicle swerved to avoid it. it slammed into the center divide barrier. the other vehicle that started this also stopped. just eid anothyesterday another slammed into that same barrier. new this morning, search crews have rescued a missing hiker from novato who went missing on monday while hiking in the marin county open space.

>> 76-year-old robert bennett went on a hike but had not been seen since monday afternoon. abc7 news was in marin county shortly after rescue crews saved him last night. officials say two k-9s located bennett off of a trail at 10:30 at night. a helicopter had to be called in to transport him because of the steep terrain. it was determined to be safer to walk him out of the area. he was loaded on to a stretcher and taken to an ambulance. >> i think we owe it to the k-9 teams around here. without them and the assistance of the search and rescue members assigned to them and the expansive search, i don't know that we could have been able to find him without the k-9s. >> bennett was taken to the hospital. there's no word on how he's doing. >> this is a separate case from the other missing people, that's a palo alto couple still missing in point reyes. this will be a search resuming this morning. 77-year-old carol kiparsky and 72-year-old ian irwin vanished

friday. the marin county sheriff's office plans to search the waters off inverness, not far from the airbnb where the couple was staying. investigators say they're looking into the couple's financial records to try to democrat their movements before they disappeared. happening this morning, a second round of buses will leave travis air force base filled with people who are finally getting to go home now that their 14-day coronavirus quarantine is over. >> officials say they pose no health risks to the public. amy hollyfield is live at the base this morning. >> good morning. they must be so happy. one bus left yesterday and another bus will leave in about 30 minutes and then they'll finally have their freedom. this group of 180 americans was brought here from wuhan, china to travis air force base. they have now been cleared. a busload of them were taken to sfo to catch flights yesterday. one man flew from minnesota to

sfo to greet his son saying he felt helpless through this ordeal. >> as a dad, those of you that are, you know i was pretty nervous when i couldn't do anything to help him. >> now seeing him, how do you feel? >> it's great. i'm happy. >> the evacuees stayed in residential housing on the base. they were not allowed to leave the base and their health was checked regularly. another round of evacuees was brought here on monday. they had been stuck on the cruise ship off the coast of japan. so they will now be quarantined here for two weeks. the two groups were kept separated. this group has now been cleared. they even got a letter making it official they're clear of the coronavirus and they're free to go back into society. we'll watch them get their freedom later this morning. they're set to leave here at 7:00 a.m. and head towards the

airport. live at travis air force base, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> that is a celebration long in the making for them. thank you. this morning supervisors will get an update on the status of the coronavirus in santa clara county. two people there tested positive. officials declared a local health emergency as a precaution. in the north bay, a patient with coronavirus is now being treated at queen of the valley medical center in napa. another person with symptoms is being monitored. both were passengers on the diamond princess cruise ship in japan. nine people evacuated to travis air force base late sunday night were identified as needing hospitalization or testing. seven of those are in solano county hospitals. other passengers who were on that flight are being quarantined at travis air force base for the next two weeks. in china, new virus cases have fallen to 1,749. there were 136 new deaths putting the toll at more than 2,000. new developments this morning in the central valley where at least one firefighter has died and another is missing. they were battling a fire at a

library in porterville. last night the sheriff tweeted prayers for the porterville city fire department they lost two brave men in a library fire this evening. it broke out after 4:00 p.m. yesterday. more than 50 firefighters worked all night to get the fire knocked down. the building reportedly had no sprinklers inside. police are working with fire officials to determine if this is arson. new developments involving attorney general william barr. sources say barr discussed possibly resigning if president trump continues to tweet about the justice department's criminal investigations. it comes just hours after trump openly defied barr's public pleas to stop tweeting about ongoing justice department cases. trump on tuesday tweeting about the judge overseeing the roger stone case and criticized the sentencing recommendation of federal prosecutors. a doj spokesperson insists the attorney general has no plans to resign. new video shows an officer

enjoy. >> thank you. new this morning police in southern california are reviewing an incident where officers beat a suspect on the ground. cell phone video captured the beating saturday. long beach police officers hit that suspect several times with a baton, even though he was already pinned to the ground. police say the video only shows part of the incident. they say the suspect was a parolee who tried to carjack several vehicles in the area. they say he resisted officers who tried to arrest him. in a development in a brazen robbery in oakland. one suspect who attacked and robbed a man in this driveway in this video is in custody. he's the guy with the long hair and red pants on. he's also the suspect in a robbery in richmond. investigators say he was in a car involved in a police chase on i-5. oakland police say the man cut his hair, he was planning to leave the state. the other robbery suspect is still not caught. this morning police in the peninsula are looking for people

who might know who attacked a woman in their own home. >> they caught him but they want to know where he was in the days leading up to the attack. julian glover is in mountain view with more on this. >> good morning. that victim was grabbed, choked and almost kidnapped monday night when this unfolded. 53 years old and she says she no longer wants to live in mountain view. the suspect has been arrested. police want to hear from you. they want to know if anyone else had contact with this man. here is a picture of him. 33-year-old jeremiah porter. police want to hear from you if you contacted him or if he reached out to you. the attack happened on monday. the victim said she was eventually able to get away running to a neighbor's home for throughout the incident she said the man kept saying he needed to get out of the area. even tried to steal her car. he was eventually arrested by

making history in the bay area. i had the privilege of sitting down with the first african-american woman appointed to california's court of appeals. it's been a long journey for justice terry jackson. she says she and her sister were the first to integrate their schools and their neighborhood. as of january justice jackson assumed her new role in the 1st district court of appeal. >> this is what i'm doing because i love it so much but i cannot dismiss or minimize that it is history. the first means responsibility. it means fear. it means sadness. why did we get into this? but it also means it's a door or opportunity to be opened for others. >> justice jackson says she knew she wanted to work in the legal system when she was five because she watched the movie "to kill a mockingbird." she said she wants to inspire people and doesn't want it to be howeverany years before there's a second woman. >> the thing i like about that interview, she acknowledges being the first while celebratory also comes with a whole lot of baggagement. >> yeah. she said people look at you like you don't belong there and they discount your abilities. she told this crazy story that had me like what happened? >> what's that? >> it's too long to tell you.

know before you go. number one, crime scene tape up in santa clara county. deputies are investigating a homicide at a home on mountain view avenue. a woman was found dead there yesterday afternoon. investigators returned overnight to look for clues. number two, a missing hiker from novato who went missing on monday while hiking in marin county open space has been rescued. officials say that two k-9 dogs located 76-year-old robert bennett off of a trail around 10:30 last night. number three, the search is back on for a missing couple in marin county. 77-year-old carol kiparsky and ian irwin were last seen at their airbnb friday. number four, this morning a second round of buses will leave travis air force base with people who are finally getting to go home now that their 14-day coronavirus quarantine is over. the first bus left yesterday. officials say there's no health risk to the public. and number five in accuweather, it's another warm winter day after some patchy fog this morning. a lot of sunshine, heading well into the 60s.
