carmageddon in san francisco. a major construction project will shut down highway 101. when will it begin? >> a woman found dead inside an air bnb rental in san jose. no new information on the search for a palo alto couple. where the investigation stands on day four of the investigation. and the effect that coronavirus fears are having on oakland's chinatown. caltrans shutting down highway 101. a major problem in san francisco will close the commuter route for over a week at a time. it is expected to cause major back-ups in an already traffic heavy area, of course. but caltrans says the work simply has to be done.

good evening. >> i'm kristin sze. thank you for joining us. >> it is part of the ongoing effort to build a better bay area. >> live with the project and the meeting happening tonight about it. melanie? >> reporter: kristin and dan, that meeting will start in about an hour. there is another one tonight and then saturday afternoon. this project is still months away but already businesses and residents are talking. corrosion, cracking and failures. three reasons it will be demolished and reconstructed this july. at u.s. 101. caltrans estimates more than 240,000 vehicles travel the interchange each day. she's in one of those vehicles. >> it will probably add a considerable amount to my already considerable drive each day. >> i'm not so sure, nothing ever starts on time or finishes on

time. >> reporter: she's the manager at the nearby flower center. she worries her customers won't want to be bodiesed. >> something like this will really negatively impact us. >> reporter: it will be reduced in lanes. and the speed will be enforced at all project detoured. there will be major delays during peak commute hours, according the caltrans. >> i am very sim that a athleticic to the businesses and the residences in the area when there is reconstruction. but people want a magic cure. in the middle of the night, it will all be fixed. that won't happen. >> reporter: caltrans says driver safety is at the heart of the project. >> we have a crumbling infrastructure and we understand improvements noted to be made. it is just the timeliness of it that will hurt and there is nothing we can do about it. >> reporter: once completed, drivers will benefit are a

afternoon. abc7 news reporter chris nguyen is live with the story. chris? >> reporter: and just moments ago, we learned that the suspect turned himself into authorities. he is 25, accompanied by his attorney. again, just plerpg from the sheriff's office. details on the case remain limited. we do know that surveillance video will be a key component in the investigation. in the east foot hills of san hose, neighbors in this typically quiet community are in disbelief. >> i've seen a lot but not like this. this is one of the weirdest days in my life. >> reporter: a woman was found dead yesterday inside an air bnb. the sheriff's office calling her a homicide victim. investigators have yet to release information about how she died or if there were any signs of struggle. we were at the neighborhood today as detectives went door to

door asking for home surveillance footage as they try to piece together what happened. on we were surprised. >> this afternoon a company spokesperson wrote, we are urgently investigating the tragedy and we are in coordination with the santa clara sheriff's office to offer full support. air bnb has temporarily disconnected the home. it was converted into a rental in recent years. the owner didn't want to speak on kral but others didn't hold back. >> you have that many people coming in and out of your house. the odds will come around, and sure enough, they did. >> reporter: the woman's identity has not been released

by authorities. the suspect has been taken to jail on murder charges. abc7 news. >> thank you. happening now, the search for a missing palo alto couple continues in inverness. the couple stayed at an air bnb rent in tomales bay but didn't stay like they were supposed to. the search hits day four. >> reporter: the marin sheriff's office says the investigation has been very thorough, very extensive. they're working direct when i the family on determine what to do next. rescue crews went into the water today but came without nothing. despite the calm waters, the dive teams return to shore with no new needs in the search. they've been missing since friday. >> we had side scan sonarful we used both boats, we had a dog out there to detect scent and we

had nothing turn out. >> reporter: four days in, the investigation has shifted from land to water. they used boats equipped with soe sonar to search. >> the conditions are 5able for the sonar. we had no indications of them. >> reporter: the rescue teams have already covered a two-mile area as well as the air bnb rental where they were staying. they may go back for another look. >> they're looking at all the tracks for the devices we found to determine if there is any possible way we missed any spots. erica mcdonald came out with her kids to shell beach where crews searched. she's hopeful the family will be reunited. >> it is shocking. who knows? maybe they're okay and not able

livermore, 69 in san jose, 64 in santa cruz. we'll fast forward to friday. the system i showed you off the coastline, it will skirt the california coast heading into southern california. it will spin up a few showers, the best chance will be the monterey bay between friday night and saturday morning. the south bay has a good chance of seeing a few showers, as you will notice. sierra snow showers and certainly rain in southern california. much needed. we have had a dry month of february so far. in terms of rainfall potential, it won't be a lot. right now, the possibility of a few hundredths going through saturday afternoon. the accuweather forecast will photo you are an increase in cloud cover. a slight chance of a few showers between friday night and saturday. it will be mild the next two days. and then cooler for your weekend as we head into next being. the 70s are back inland. 60s, coast side. let's hope that rainfall
