realized there was a person still in my car, i told him get out. police say the second attempted carjacking happened five minutes later on harrison. police believe the same suspects may have been involved in a third incident at mission and dubois. it is sentencing day for roger stone. his case has been at the center of the public tensions between the public and attorney general william bar. andrew dymburt is live at the courthouse where the sentence will be handed down. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we know roger stone was found guilty, that much we do know, but can he walk free as a presidential pardon is in the works. we saw the president pardon a few people this week, is roger stone next? set for sentencing, this afternoon trump ally and former campaign adviser roger stone will find out how long he's going to prison. the president had been critical about the case calling it a

will start being cleared and released. yesterday a second round of 180 americans brought to travis air force base from wuhan were released from quarantine. they were brought to the base two weeks ago. they were cleared, a lot to catch flights home from sfo. one passenger evacuated from the diamond princess cruise ship that was brought to travis air force base is now confirmed to have the virus. that person is being treated at queen of the valley medical center in napa. in the north bay, search teams will head back out to marin county to try to find a missing couple. crews searched the water off shell beach for carol kiparsky and her husband, ian irwin yesterday. they have not been seen since friday. officials already covered a two mile area with no sign of them. we're told searchers may double back for a second look. happening today, san francisco muni leaders will be asked to consider increasing fares. >> mineny officiuni officials s the money to boost service but not everyone is on board. amy hollyfield is live with more on this proposal.

amy? >> you're right about that. riders we talked to don't like it. we're hearing this could be setting up a showdown with city hall and transit officials. this increase would cost you a quarter to ride on muni. transit officials say they need the money to keep up with inflation, to pay for operating expenses. so they're talking about increasing your ride from $3 to $3.25. one rider we talked to said it doesn't feel like customers are getting what they pay for. >> i think they've raised the fares almost every year, it's been a lot since i've moved out here. honestly, they don't run regularly enough to really feel like the fare raise is warranted. i guess you have to pay for stuff somehow. >> and some city leaders don't like it either. they worry a fare hike increase will discourage people from taking public transit.

jobina? >> good morning, everyone. we are looking great out there on the roads right now. live look shows you san jose, 280 here, a beautiful sunrise coming up over the south bay. it looks great. we're also seeing a beautiful sunrise in walnut creek on 680. though it is slow. that's because there's an abandoned vehicle not too far away from this camera. it's causing a bit of an issue. they're trying to move it out of the way. that should pick up shortly. drive times now, walnut creek to dublin, 14 minutes. santa rosa to san francisco, 51, and highway 1 to los gatos, 24-minute ride. also here, new overnight, the chp is investigating a crash that left one person dead in san jose. it happened after 2:15 this morning on interstate 680 just north of jackson avenue. the car hit the exit post and sign. the victim died at the scene. we have new video of a crash on highway 17 in los gatos.

this is on the northbound side near the transition to highway 85. several vehicles were involved here. at least one person is seriously hurt. authorities believe the crash was caused by a wrong-way driver. police can't you to look closely at this photo. this is a man accused in a violent attack on a woman inside a gym. >> detectives fear there could be other victims. this happened monday. julian glover is live for us in fremont. >> it is disturbing and disgusting. this was a big guy, 6'1" 255 pounds that fremont police say stormed into the 24 hour gym behind me and assaulted this woman, holding her to the ground. terrifying stuff. look closely at his mugshot. police are hoping that if you recognize this man and you have

come in contact with him or perhaps there are other victims that might want to come forward, that you do get in touch with police. this is 33-year-old jonathan anderson. police say he straddled the woman while she was doing push-ups, pushed her to the ground, held her down, ripped off her clothing and attempted to sexually assault her. thankfully another person working out, pushed anderson off the victim, followed him, and that's when gym employees held him in police until police could get there and arrest him. fremont police tell us that anderson did eventually confess to the crimes during questioning. he's charged with two felonies for assault and sexual assault and probation violation as well. fremont police helping to hear from anyone who might recognize this man or may have come into contact with him in the days leading up to that attack on monday. all of the information to get in contact with police is on our website, abc7news.com.

at the live desk, more passengers from the quarantined diamond princess are expected to disembark the cruise ship which is docked in the japanese city of yokohama. japan is reporting that the first two deaths from the cruise liner, a japanese man and woman in their 80s contracted the disease on the diamond princess. they left the ship last week and were hospitalized. more than 600 passengers and crew tested positive for the virus, including a southern california man now at a biocontainment unit. a chinese expert says the coronavirus may never disappear fully and will likely come around seasonally like the flu. >> thank you. a proposed fare increase that would impact anyone who rides public transit in san francisco. how much more you could be paying for a ride on muni. >> let's see how we're doing on the new york stock exchange now. we're down about 51 points. we'll update you again in a couple of minutes. >> look at this. well -- well, you can't look at this but in a few minutes you can look at the new baby yoda

report. mgm resorts is revealing a major data breach that may have impacted more than 10 million people. it happened last year but details are just being revealed. reports say as many as 10.6 million people were impacted. morgan stanley is confirming it is acquiring e-trade, the all-stock deal is valued at $13 billion. morgan stanley says the deal will close in the fourth quarter. this would be the largest financial merger since the 2008 financial crisis. stanley sees the edition of e-trade as a way to better compete against fidelity and charles schwab. coming up, diane sawyer going one-on-one with ben affleck. he talks about his struggles with alcohol and how it affected his family. he has a new movie coming up
