now from abc 7, live breaking news. >> mostly we feel it's time for a new leader. >> that breaking new been fired. >> amanda. >> reporter: yeah, oakland's police commissioner came down with that decision in a closed door meeting hours ago. three years as the department's chief just last month. after three years as oakland's police chief, ann crook patrick is out. a unanimous decision was made behind closed doors thursday.

the public announcement was met with applause. commission chair regina jackson explained it was made without cause and while there have been notable successes, they felt she was still lacking. >> there are a lot of improvements but the disparities continue to exist and there are a series of other issues that contributed to losing the confidence. we didn't think she was going to be the most effective chief in oakland. three years ago mayor libby shaft hired kirk patrick. >> if this commission unanimously does not continue to have confidence in this chief, i believe it is my duty to heed their request. >> reporter: kirkpatrick

cancer-causing chemical ended up in the ground water. >> it will be closed until next week, at the very earliest. >> live with tomorrow's emergency community meeting. >> reporter: good evening. well, tensions ran very high at this emergency meeting as parents demanded answers about the safety of their schools. >> there should have been an apology. >> this has been going on for years. >> reporter: just plain mad. that's how families were feeling at an emergency meeting at church hall in oakland. less than 24 hours ago many got a robo call informing them the school is closing down. a chemical was found in the ground water near the property. one possible source a plant laying metal finishers. >> fear, panic.

i didn't understand what was going on. >> reporter: they gave a briefing of what they do know. the tce levels found nearby were high enough it could vapes aori into the school's air. >> i made the decision out of an overabundance of caution, given we do not know the results of the testing. >> reporter: but others say they're fed up. this just the latest scare they've had to deal with over the years. high levels of led have been found around the school before. two students died in cancer. one in november and the other in 2017. >> you don't have a solid answer. but hypothatically speaking this and hypothetically speaking that. >> i don't want to look back and wish i had taken my daughter out of this school. >> i still have a lot of questions.

jeremiah porter is accused of break nothi breaking into a home and holding her hostage. these latest alleged victims came forward only after learning he was in custody and they felt safe to do so. this incident happened an hour before he's accused of an attack on montalana court. she managed to escape. tonight san jose state students are sleeping outdoors to show solidarity with thousands of students that are homeless. the university's president spoke before students climbed into their tents. >> i want to applaud you for consistently shining your light on issues related to housing insecurity and other issues involving students' basic nieds. >> they also want to drum up

as we head towards the weekend, we may be seeing more than clouds. south wind ahead of the low will create more afternoon. hazy skies with all the low clouds around. saturday morning we have a slight chance of seeing a few showers. best chance will be in the south bay. southern california will benefit from rain. now, the chance for showers continues until the early afternoon. so so, if you have plans and you're in the south bay good idea to have them handy in case you need to use them. saturday we're look at possibility of a few drops in the south bay. sunday breezy. but certainly a drop in the temperatures for saturday and sunday. a live look from our kgo roof camera. we're not expecting anything until the weekend.
