term expired. >> and the shake-up continued overnight. abc's andrew dymburt has the new details from washington. andrew, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, and for pretty much his entire presidency, right, president trump has just rejected this implication that russia interfered in the 2016 election, but a new report suggests they may be at it again here in 2020. a potential russia repeat? abc news has confirmed the intelligence community warned a bipartisan group of house lawmakers last week that russia is planning to interfere in the 2020 campaign with the goal of getting president trump re-elected. "the new york times" reporting that briefing was done in the presence of house intelligence committee chairman adam schiff. the democrat who also led the impeachment proceedings in the house. that infuriated trump who again attacked schiff last night at a rally in colorado. >> that little adam schiff, what a crooked politician. he's a corrupt politician. >> reporter: sources tell abc news the president believed

democrats would use the information from this latest russia briefing against him. democrats overnight defending the congressional oversight. adam schiff tweeting, he is again jeopardizing our efforts to stop foreign meddling. exactly as we warned he would do. >> nobody has been tougher on russia than donald trump. nobody. >> reporter: according to another report in "the washington post," the president caed in then acting director of national intelligence, joseph maguire, into the oval office for a, quote, dressing down last friday. >> i am not partisan, and i am not political. >> reporter: but after last week's election security briefing, maguire is out, replaced by ambassador to germany richard grenell, a trump loyalist with no intelligence experience. and overnight abc news confirming that a wider staff shake-up in the intelligence community could be in the works. two aides are expected to leave their position, and a former aide to republican congressman devin nunes could be promoted to a senior role.

perhaps trump looking for loyalty post russia probe and impeachment trial. kenneth, elizabeth. >> in the words of the president, stay tuned. andrew, thank you. well, president trump says his longtime adviser roger stone has a good chance of being exonerated. stone was sentenced to more than three years in prison yesterday, but he is requesting a new trial claiming there was jury misconduct. the president says he will let the process play out before deciding on a pardon. stone was convicted of lying to congress and witness tampering in connection with the russia investigation. well, the judge scolded him saying stone was not prosecuted as some have claimed for standing up for the president. he was prosecuted for covering up for the president. breaking overnight the mother of two missing children from idaho is under arrest charged with trying to stop police from finding them. lori vallow is being held on $5 million bail in hawaii where she was traveling with her new husband.

she is expected to appear in court today. vallow who has been linked to a doomsday cult is also charged with abandoning 17-year-old tylee ryan and 7-year-old j.j. vallow. the kids haven't been seen since september. their grandparents hope the arrest will help solve this 5-month-old mystery. >> we know it's a positive step forward. we also know that as good as this news is is as bad as it is also because we still don't have the children. like where is j.j.? where is tylee? that's -- at this point that's our questions. >> vallow missed last month's court ordered deadline in idaho to provide evidence that her kids were safe. investigators have not said whether they believe her children are alive. we turn now to dramatic video showing an attack on a jewish grocery store in new jersey. the hours long standoff ended with a neighborhood terrorized and four victims dead. >> now we're seeing how it unfolded thanks to a police officer's body camera. this morning, new video of a police officer in the middle of a hail of gunfire.

his body cam shows him taking cover in a school classroom during the december shootout in jersey city. across the street the kosher deli where two suspects were firing at the officers. police say the shooters had already killed four people including a police detective. the officer can be seen moving through the school around desks past lockers and toward another window. the gunfire outside still constant. >> he's still moving. >> reporter: at one point the officer thought he was facing friendly fire. >> that's friendly inside of sacred heart. i say again friendly, blue. >> reporter: eventually the gunfire stops, and the officer heads outside. >> i'm coming down. >> just incredible.

authorities say the two attackers were killed in the shootout, and they were fueled by a hatred of jewish people and law enforcement. some heart-stopping moments at daytona international airport in florida. this plane skidded to a stop with sparks flying after its landing gear failed. the two people on board were not hurt. some commercial flights had to be diverted as crews spent hours cleaning fuel off the runway. turning to the weather, the snowstorm pounding the mid-atlantic is moving out, but it's leaving a blast of frigid air in its wake. heavy snow made a mess in parts of north carolina and virginia knocking out power to tens of thousands of customers. let's take a closer look at your friday forecast. hey, good morning to you. we are talking about a cold start to your friday. get ready for that chill after a storm system brought in some snow across the carolinas. the good news is the weekend we do see some rebounding and snow

we're back with video of mountain lions roaming around a neighborhood in jackson hole, wyoming. a bit scary and rare because they usually don't travel in packs. i guess that's a good reminder if you live in the mountains, check the doorbell camera. peek your head out, maybe out the window before you step out and see that sight right there. a good samaritan who saved a truck driver from this massive fire is talking about why he put his own life in danger to save a stranger. a tanker carrying 4,000 gallons of jet fuel crashed on this highway in indianapolis. the fire spread across 500 feet. the driver was trapped by the flames until the first of three bystanders jumped into action to save him. >> as i was coming with my truck, i saw the man, he was burning and everybody else on their cell phone. the first thing that came to mind, i just parked the truck and jumped the highway and went into the hill and tried to literally get the man out of the fire.

>> the driver is in critical condition with significant burns. investigators are looking into whether speed played a role in that crash. more than two dozen americans who evacuated a cruise ship in japan are now being treated at hospitals here in the u.s. because of the coronavirus. 11 former passengers who tested positive for the virus are being treated in nebraska. a group of others have been staying at travis air force base in california. a plane evacuating americans and other passengers from a different cruise ship was denied permission to land in turkey overnight because of concerns about the virus. it landed in pakistan instead. meanwhile, authorities in south korea are now disinfecting the streets of one major city after a sharp increase in cases. if you make $500,000 a year, you're just average in this richest town in the country. atherton, california, in silicon valley tops this year's list of richest towns in america. according to bloomberg, the average household income there

is more than $525,000. the new york suburb of scarsdale came in a distant second followed by hillsborough, california, and cherry hills village, colorado. experts pulled off a nearly perfect controlled demolition of a silo in rural illinois. the 70-foot green tower collapsed from the bottom up then moved gracefully across the ground just as planned. the silo came down so cleanly, it took less than 30 minutes to clear all that rubble off. wow. >> it's like it's walking. walking along. >> i know. coming up, a new journey to the "titanic." what experts hope to recover from the wreckage. but first new details about the killing of a hollywood therapist once engaged to comedian drew carey. what happened before she was allegedly thrown off a balcony. and up next, our exclusive interview with the husband of presidential candidate pete buttigieg. his message to rush limbaugh. ll.

welcome back. new fireworks on the campaign trail after wednesday night's debate. >> elizabeth warren has written a contract she wants michael bloomberg to sign as we learn more about the nondisclosure agreements causing so much controversy for bloomberg. this morning, michael bloomberg is hoping what happens in vegas stays in vegas. >> so how was your night last night? >> reporter: his team admits he took a beating at the debate with pointed criticism from elizabeth warren over allegations bloomberg has made sexist comments in the past and then tried to silence the women. >> we are not going to beat donald trump with a man who has who knows how many nondisclosure agreements. >> reporter: during a town hall last night, warren doubled down reading a contract she wrote that would release people from bloomberg's nondisclosure agreements. >> all that mayor bloomberg has to do is download it, i'll text it. [ laughter ]

sign it, and then the women or men will be free to speak. >> reporter: gender discrimination and sexual harassment lawsuits show several women have signed nondisclosure agreements with bloomberg's company, which detail allegations that bloomberg directed crude and sexist comments to women in his office. bloomberg downplayed the allegations. >> none of them accused me of doing anything other than maybe they didn't like a joke i told, and let me just -- and let me point -- there's agreements between two parties that wanted to keep it quiet. they were made consensually, and they have every right to expect that they will stay private. >> reporter: but abc news spoke with several women bound by those ndas who expressed interest in telling their stories, but they say they feared repercussions. one confidential agreement shows the plaintiff was asked to agree not to in any way disparage bloomberg's company. this morning, senator warren is

facing new criticism of her own after reversing her long held position of not accepting support from big money organizations or super pacs. warren is refusing to disavow a new super pac that's earmarked $1 million to support her campaign. >> if all the candidates want to get rid of super pacs, count me in. it can't be the case that a bunch of people keep them and only one or two don't. >> reporter: meanwhile, as the candidates make a final push before tomorrow's caucuses in nevada, pete buttigieg's husband sat down with abc's linsey davis responding to recent comments by rush limbaugh who suggested america may not be ready for a gay president. >> what's your response to it? >> i've been dealing with this my whole life. i dealt with a multitude of rush limbaughs when i was walking through the hallways of my high school. you saw that pete is ready to go toe to toe with this president and pete can take on, you know, the likes of rush limbaugh. >> after nevada it is on to south carolina where joe biden is hoping to get his campaign back on track.

but a new poll shows he has only a narrow lead over bernie sanders in that state. the man accused of murdering comedian drew carey's former fiancee hollywood therapist amie harwick could face the death penalty. during a court appearance prosecutors accused harwick's ex-boyfriend gareth pursehouse of lying in wait, strangling her then throwing her off the balcony of her apartment in the hollywood hills. court documents show harwick had taken out two restraining orders against him. there could soon be a new mission to the "titanic." a company that's already recovered thousands of artifacts from the ship now wants to save an important piece of equipment and is asking a federal judge for permission to retrieve the ship's wireless telegraph machine. that's the device that transmitted the "titanic's" distress calls. experts want to recover the machine before it deteriorates any further. tomorrow marks 40 years since a miracle came true in lake placid, new york. the u.s. hockey team filled with college kids beat the powerful

samaritan. this is in san mateo. our photographer there just got to the scene. there are still three lanes close the. you can expect a delay in this area. this is an awful situation and a reminder to everyone if you are in a crash, stay inside your vehicle because sometimes people can't see you and we are watching that devastating situation unfold this morning. i will continue to update you throughout the morning and let you know when this clears up, but the accident happened just before 2:00. officers say a man got out to help a driver who got in a single vehicle crash. that good samaritan was struck and killed by another vehicle. the chp says the driver in the initial accident suffered major injured, he was taken to the hospital. investigators have not identified either driver. this morning back in the studio here, i'm just pulling up the map to show you where this is, this orange line here, that delay in the area. again, southbound 101 before 3rd

avenue there. richmond-san rafael bridge, getting across there, 6 minutes. san mateo bridge, 13 minutes. dumbarton bridge, 8-minute ride. we start this morning with some developing news. after three years on the job, the oakland police commission has fired the city's police chief. >> commissioners say they lost confidence in anne kirkpatrick, the decision came down in a closed door meeting last night. abc7 news reporter, amy hollyfield has more on this. amy? >> anne kirkpatrick became the first female police chief in the city's history when mayor libby schaaf hired her. schaaf was the one to inform kirkpatrick immediately after the decision was made. commission chair regina jackson explained the termination was made without cause. the oakland police commission does have the authority to remove the police chief under a voter ballot initiative. while there have been notable successes under kirkpatrick's
