avenue there. richmond-san rafael bridge, getting across there, 6 minutes. san mateo bridge, 13 minutes. dumbarton bridge, 8-minute ride. we start this morning with some developing news. after three years on the job, the oakland police commission has fired the city's police chief. >> commissioners say they lost confidence in anne kirkpatrick, the decision came down in a closed door meeting last night. abc7 news reporter, amy hollyfield has more on this. amy? >> anne kirkpatrick became the first female police chief in the city's history when mayor libby schaaf hired her. schaaf was the one to inform kirkpatrick immediately after the decision was made. commission chair regina jackson explained the termination was made without cause. the oakland police commission does have the authority to remove the police chief under a voter ballot initiative. while there have been notable successes under kirkpatrick's

leadership, the commission felt she was still lacking. the firing was part of a week-long conversation. >> there are a lot of improvements but the disparities won't to exist and there are a series of other issues that contributed to losing the confidence. we didn't think she was going to be the most effective chief in oakland. >> i do not regret choosing chief kirkpatrick. and i believe there are many examples of ways that she served our city extremely well over these three years. but i must respect the authority and role of our independent police commission. >> kirkpatrick is entitled to one year salary as severance, around $273,000. assistant chief darren allenson will serve as acting chief until a new chief is appointed. reporting live in the newsroom, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. we have more developing news out of oakland.

mcclymonds high school is closed indefinitely after a chemical linked to cancer was found in ground water below the campus. officials say the school's drinking water is not affected but the levels of the chemical are high enough that it could vaporize into the air. oakland school leaders held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the closure. families say they're angry and are worried their kids are not safe. mcclymonds is planning on holding classes at a different location starting on tuesday. neighbors who live near mcclymonds say they're worried. some of them are cautious about gardening or growing plans in the area. one person told abc7 she has not heard anything from the city about the latest incident. >> i want to feel safe until we find out more. i don't want to jump to conclusions. i don't want to be scared in my own home. >> the councilwoman says she

doesn't want there to be panic. she says the test results from mcclymonds will give them a better indication on whether testing is needed in the surrounding neighborhood. san jose and morgan hill police are investigating a shooting involving two men. morgan hill police responded to calls of shots fired around 8:00 last night at cochran and mission view. they found multiple shell casings in the middle of the intersection but nothing else. that's when they got a call from san jose police about two gunshot victims. one is in critical condition. the other is in serious condition. a new intelligence report says russia is reportedly interfering with the 2020 race trying to help the president get reelected. house leaders were briefed which angered the president. andrew dymburt is in washington with more on this. good morning. trump has rejected the notion

that russia interfered in the 2016 election, but a new report suggests russia may be at it again here in 2020. a potential russia repeat? abc news confirmed that the intelligence committee warned a bipartisan group of house lawmakers last week that russia is planning to interfere in the 2020 campaign with the goal of getting president trump reelected. the "new york times" reporting that briefing was done in the presence of house intelligence committee chairman, adam schiff, the democrat who also led the impeachment proceedings in the house. >> that little adam schiff, what a crooked politician. he's a corrupt politician. >> reporter: sources tell abc news the president believed democrats would use the information from this latest russia briefing against him. democrats overnight defending the congressional oversight. adam schiff tweeting, he is again jeopardizing our efforts to stop foreign meddling. exactly as we warned he would do.

after last week's briefing, acting director of national intelligence, joseph maguire, into the oval office for a, quote, dressing down last friday. but after last week's election security briefing, maguire is out, replaced by ambassador to germany richard grenell, a trump loyalist with no intelligence experience. and overnight abc news confirming that a wider staff shake-up in the intelligence community could be in the works. two aides are expected to leave their position, and a former aide to republican congressman devin nunes could be promoted to a senior role. perhaps trump looking for loyalty post russia probe and impeachment trial. there are a number of developments about coronavirus happening in the bay area. a diamond princess cruise ship evacuee is now in the hospital in san francisco. the person doesn't have symptoms but tested positive for the virus in japan. a santa clara county coronavirus patient has been released from home isolation after recovering from the illness. two other patients have been discharged from usf after they got treatment. humboldt county is reporting its

in san mateo. this is breaking news right now. this is a live picture from the scene. you can see two vehicles involved in this crash. there were three cars involved here. it started with a single car crash. a good samaritan stopped to help that person inside the vehicle. unfortunately that person was struck and killed when they were hit by another car. right now the chp has not released information as far as the identity of the people involved. the driver of the first vehicle has major injuries and was rushed to the hospital. there are three lanes blocked. this is southbound 101 before 3rd avenue. i will pull up the map so you can see the backup and the speeds in the area. three lanes blocked. speeds down to about 9 miles per hour approaching it. southbound 101 before 3rd avenue. moving up to san francisco, a rollover on northbound 280 before alemany blocking one lane. twitter is testing a new way

welcome to february 21st. it is going to be another dry day outside. that makes it -- 21 for this month. a couple days last month. 24 days and counting without rain. more than 500,000 office depot customers are in for a refund. the company is paying $35 million to settle claims it tricked them into buying computer repair work they didn't need. the average refund will be around $63. the government says office depot and its software supplier manipulated a virus scanning program so it reported malware. the company then offered repair work that cost hundreds of dollars. san jose state yuuniversity athletes are preparing for new course work in the kitchen.
