bright sunshine, temperatures will be a little bit cooler compared to yesterday. inland areas and around the bay in the mid to low 60s by this afternoon. at the coast, having a hard time making it into the 60s. sun sets at 5:55 with clear skies. vile a warming trend coming up soon. >> all right. happening today in the east bay, air testing of the high school in oakland begin after a cancer causing chemical was found in the groundwater nearby. the school has canceled classes indefinitely according to local and state officials there are several sites that could be the source. students and teachers don't know when they're going back. classes may resume next week. the school year could be extended to make up for the missed days. the search continues for the remains of a missing couple in marine county. they're from palo alto. they disappeared while on a hiking treep o hiking trip one week ago. it's now a search and recovery

mission. they believe the couple would have been found by now if they were in an area accessible by foot. deputies thought they had a lead when canine pointed this em to shell beach. the u.s. coast guard will aid with the search using boats, jet skis and helicopters and drones throughout the weekend. the california highway patrol is looking for the driver responsible for killing a good samaritan in a hit-and-run. we're learning more about the man who lost his life trying to help. this happened just north of the third avenue exit earlier yesterday morning. you can see it on the map. abc 7 news reporter amanda coss tee y castillo spoke to the victim's family. >> early friday morning, family members say jose garcia was making his way home from work. the 31-year-old driving where his partner and the couple's 6-year-old son were waiting. she sent him a text when he didn't arrive home at 2:00 a.m. >> he never answered back.

so i waited and i fell asleep for a little bit. then i woke up and again' wasn't there. >> he wouldn't make it home. at 1:54 a.m., the driver of this car crashed into the median. two other southbound drivers hit the car. a fourth driver, aguilar stopped to help. >> he was always like that. he's like too help people. >> he put on the hazards. he stopped blocking number one lane and got out of his vehicle trying to assist the other people broken down on the road. >> aguilar was killed by hate and run driver. those living off the exit know all about 101 traffic problems. for 70 years, leonard johnson heard collisions ring through t neighborhood. >> a lot of times you can here the squishing and the crash. several times i came out of my house and see who got hurt. >> this time a good samaritan. now aguilar's family is begging

the virus is running out. >> we know of opportunities so narrowing so we need to act quick quickly before it closes completely. >> there are 77,000 cases worldwide. the cdc is assuring americans the virus is not spreading in the u.s. but warns it could. health officials in california are asking 76 hub -- 7600 people that were in china to self quarantine to stop the spread. a cybersecurity conference due to coronavirus concern. verizon dropped from the conference. six chinese companies had already pulled out due to travel restrictions. more than 40,000 people are expected to travel into the city for the event. the mayor is urging attendees not to be anxious about the

virus. okay, new developments about a fire that killed two firefighters at the porterville library. two teenage boys accused of setting the fire have been charged with murder and arson. porterville fire captain raymond figueroa and the firefighter patrick jones died battling the flames tuesday night. the two 13-year-olds pleaded not guilty in court yesterday. they're scheduled to be back in court in mid march. in the east bay, reminder of how dry our february has been. yesterday we saw a grass fire in brentwood off deer rvalley road. a home ener trying to get rid of rodents may to be blame. >> time lapse video from walnut creek shows how fast and how far smoke from a vegetation fire west of brentwood could be seen. >> we got a frort a homeowner that 9,000 block off deer valley road of a small accidental fire. >> that descent, fire officials sashgs was sparked by a smokebomb. officials say the homeowner was

seconds: a deadly night in rome." we have the story you'll only see here on abc 7. >> reporter: the store ji just keeps building, more layers peeling away. it's been seven months since marine county realtor heidi york got a terrible call from her husband. she had no idea her 18-year-old gabriel york was involved in a terrible fight with two police officers in rome. his friend stabbing one of them to death. >> he said last night we saw in the news that gabriel and the guy that he's visited in rome were arrested in connection with killing of a police officer. >> what's going through your mind at that point? >> i honestly couldn't -- i couldn't process it. >> reporter: the other young man from the bay area claims he stabbed the officer in self-defense but both boys face aggravated murder and attempted extortion charges h the hour

security, they profile me, put in a certain category. >> the bart director requested demographic data on quality of life citations and contacts. they found racial disparity. >> why are we seeing 50% of the citations and arrests, why are they received by folks that are black when we know that's not the population riding our system? >> from 2018 to 2019 an average of 40 citations were issued for smoking and public inintoxication. 50% were issued to blacks. 24% to whites, 18% to latinos. >> we provide the training to officers. they do bias training every two years. they get into police academy and give it to them when they first come to the department. >> reporter: the bart police chief said he is look teg findings and he is stressing racial equity. >> we haven't had any foul violation. >> is training enough? >> i think we need to do more than training. >> reporter: and next thursday

word of mouth and referrals is a big part of this program. as a matter of fact, while we were shooting the story, one of his neighbors called to find out what we were covering. he told them about the program. and now that neighbor is interested in applying for the earthquake brace and bolt program. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. national tribal leaders are in the bay area to oppose a plan that would cover up that controversial mural at a san francisco high school. tribal leaders held a blessing ceremony at the school district office before delivering a letter in support of the mural. they say the atrocities depicted should not be forgotten. it depicts murdered native-american alongside george washington. the school district voted to cover up the mural last year. >> the truth hurts and that's what this is, it is the truth. and we should -- we need to embrace that, understand that and not let it happen again. >> the native-american leaders will hold an educational forum at the palace of fine arts today to explain their support for the

mural. the assembly begins at 1:30 this afternoon. new details this morning in the terrible tragedy of the helicopter crash that killed kobe kbrint a kobe kbribryant and the others. there were weather related rules. in 2015, the pilot was dedied clearance through lax because of reduced visibility and flew anyway. in last month's crash, the pilot was asking for special permission to fly in foggy conditions. and tomorrow marks exactly one month since the crash, we're learning more about monday's massive memorial at staples center. police are asking anyone who hasn't purchased a ticket to stay away from the area in downtown l.a. 20,000 people are expected at monday's public memorial. fans without tickets are encouraged to gather elsewhere around l.a. several murals and memorials have sprung up around the city honoring kobe and his daughter gianna and the seven other victims. happening today, a 49ers

so here's a look right now outside towards downtown san francisco. it's going to be another gorgeous day. temperatures are in the mild side right now. san francisco 53. oakland, 56. san jose 56 as well. cooler in gillroy and pacifica. and this time as we look from the east bay hills out towards the bay and san francisco, you can see clear across the span winds are very light at this point. santa rose yashgs one santa rosa dropped into the 30z there. we also have low 40s in petaluma, fairfield, concord and livermore in the low 50s. we check out the bay bridge and how pretty it is with the lights, here's what can you expect for the forecast. we have morning sprinkles possible. just a slight chance. south and the south bay, san jose and monterey bay, it's going to be breezy and cooler this weekend as on shore flow returns. and then high pressure rebuilds much warmer next week. i'll show you that in a little bit as well. so there is this area of low pressure. you can see it wrapping around.

it is counter clockwise direction. it's going to bring scattered showers to southern california and even out towards arizona for any of the baseball practices. also, highs today, we got plenty of sunshine this afternoon, temperatures will be much cooler especially along the coast where that sea breeze returns. so we'll get that westerly flow, 10 to 20 miles per hour. so san francisco hitting a high of 59 as well as half moon bay. we'll see some low to mid 60s around the bay. possibly topping out at 70 in some of the inland areas. also some upper 60s through santa rosa. and then lows to night will be in the mainly in the 40s. we'll see some low 40s in the north bay. we'll see clearer conditions. and then mid 40s and upper 40s around the bay. san jose, 44 tonight. now here's a look at the week ahead, for example in, san jose. we are well above average but cooler than yesterday. we dropped down a little bit more tomorrow because of that sea breeze.

and then the high pressure building. we can be anywhere from about 15 degrees above average and it looks like the warmest days will be wednesday and thursday next week. so it's looking dry the next seven days. so cooler weather today. and then even a little bit cooler tomorrow. but then sunshine, lots of it, during the week. and even much warmer especially on wednesday and thursday. well above average for inland areas around the bay. mid 60s and at the coast, mid 60s. so it is going to feel warm around here. and it's going to feel very much like spring already. in fact, the pollen is already coming up for trees. >> it is crazy. winlt running yesterday outside. all i kept thinking is this just feels like may. it just doesn't feel like february. >> it doesn't. it doesn't. we're well above average and even more so by next week. >> all right. thank you. >> just ahead, a big change is coming to costco. the popular offering that's will soon be available to members only.
