good morning, everyone. let's start with a quick look at the weather. good morning, francis. >> good morning, liz. good morning, everyone. we're tracking a chance of showers south of san jose. you can see it with live doppler 7 and satellite radar image. we have cloudy conditions south of san francisco and an area of low pressure that is heading south bringing us those slight chance of sprinkles. but so far, we haven't had any measurable rain yet. here's the day planner h 7:00 this morning. sunrise at 6:51. temperatures in the low 40s in the inland areas around the bay, 50s at the coast. upper 40s. it will be dry and clear by this afternoon. plenty of sunshine. temperatures will mainly be in the 60s around the bay and inland areas. upper 60s will be some of the highs. and at the coast, upper 50s. so temperatures will be a little bit cooler compared to yesterday. still clear if you plan to go out tonight.

and then get ready for some cooler weather tomorrow before a big warmup in store for us. i'll have details on that coming up. liz? >> thank you. happening today in the east bay, air testing in oakland will begin after a cancer causing chemical was found in the groundwater nearby. the school has canceled classes indefinitely according to local and state officials. there are several sites nearby that could be the source. students and teachers don't know when they'll be going back but classes may resume next week at alternative locations. the school year could be extended to make up for the missed days. the search continues for the remains of a missing couple in marine county. carol kaparski and ian irwin n disapeer disappeared while on a hiking trip. it's now a search and recovery mission. they believe the couple would have been found by now if they were in an area accessible by foot. deputies thought they had a lead when ka nine cadaver units pointed this em to shell beach. they will aid with the search

using boats, jet skis, helicopters and drones throughout the weekend. and now to the ever growing coronavirus outbreak. overnight south korea is reporting a surge in cases and a range of countries in the middle east. israel and lebanon are confirming their first cases. iran's health ministry is reporting two more deaths:this is all as the confirmed total here in the u.s. reaches 24 infected people. and this morning a somber reality, a somber reality check from the director of the world health organization time to contain the virus is running out. >> the window of opportunity is narrowing. so we need to act quickly before it closes completely. >> there are now more than 77,000 cases worldwide. the cdc is assuring americans the virus is not spreading in the u.s. but warns that it could. california health officials are asking 7600 people that returned from china since february 2nd to

self quarantine this month to stop its spread. here at home, another large sponsor is pulling out of next week's cybersecurity conference in san francisco due to coronavirus concerns. verizon joins at&t and ibm in the move dropping from the rsa conference which starts monday at the center. six chinese companies had already pulled out due to travel restrictions. more than 40,000 people are expected to travel into the city for the event. mayor london breed is urging attendees not to be anxious about the virus. the california highway patrol is looking for the driver responsible for killing a ga g. samaritan in a hit-and-run. we're learning more about the man that lost his life trying to help. it happened just north of the third avenue exit in san mateo early yesterday morning. you can see it on the map. abc 7 news reporter spoke to the victim's family. >> early friday morning, family members say jose garcia aguilar was making his way home from work:31-year-old driving from burlinggate to san carlos where

the partner and 6-year-old son were waiting. she sent aguilar a text when he didn't arrive home at 2:00 a.m. >> he never answered back. so i waited. and kind of fell asleep for a little bit and then i woke up again and he wasn't there. >> aguilar wouldn't make it home. at 1:54 a.m., the driver of t dt black car xrashed into the median. two other drivers hit the sighon. a fourth driver stopped to help. >> he was always like that. he is like so helpful. >> he put on the hazards. he stopped blocking number one lane and got out of his vehicle trying to assist the other people that were broken down on the road. aguilar was killed by a hit-and-run driver. for nearly 70 years, this resident heard collisions ring through the neighborhood. >> a lot of times someone hits and you can hear the squishing and the crash.

several times i came out of my house and see who got hurt. >> reporter: this time a good samaritan. now aguilar's familiar sli begging for the driver responsible to come forward. >> he took a life. and my kid is 6 years old. >> reporter: the chp is searching for a blue or green box shaped suv. it could be a scion or a sub arue. aguilar's family set up with a gofundme page to help with funeral arrangements.ngemen new developments about a deadly fire that killed two firefighters at the porterville library. two teenage boys accused of setting the fire have been charged with murder and arson. porterville fire captain raymond figueroa and firefighter fak rick jones died.

the two teens plead not guilty yesterday. they're scheduled to be back in court in mid march. in the east bay, a reminder of just how dry our february has been. yesterday we saw a grass fire in brent wood off deer valley road. abc 7 news reporter tells us that a homeowner trying to get rid of rodents to blame. >> this shows how vast and far smoke could be seen. >> we got a report from a homeowner, 9,000 block off deer valley road of a small accidental fire. >> reporter: that accident, fire officials say, was sparked by a smokebomb. officials say the homeowner was trying to get rid of he pesky ground rodents but set off a seven acre vegetation fire. officials want to take this opportunity to remind everyone of these dry conditions in february. >> with the lack of rain that we've been having, and, of course, very dry summer season that we had last year, some of that longer grass on the steeper

part of the hillside is dry from last year. >> reporter: so far it has been a dry month. fire officials say luckily no structures were threatened and no one was injured. reporting from brentwood, abc 7 news. this is not a good sign though for what is to come. we're not even technically in fire season. >> we're not. so fire season could start early. we're so dry this month. we haven't had any measurable rainfall. year to date for the rainfall season, we're anywhere from 25 to only 60% of normal for the bay area. so we can certainly use the rain. we're not going to get much today. although we are tracking a chance of some sprinkles south of san jose during the morning hours. but as we look outside right now, you can see it's going to be a pleasant day. plenty of sunshine ahead with slightly cooler temperatures today. i'll have the details coming up. >> thanks, francis. also ahead, new details in a helicopter crash that killed kobe bryant and eight others. month are on the past records of the pilot of that chopper. plus, an i-team exclusive

original documentary called "32 seconds: a deadly night in rome." dan nois has the story you'll see here on abc 7. >> reporter: the store ji just keeps building, more layers peeling away. it's been seven months since marine county realtor heidi york got a terrible call from her husband. she had no idea her 18-year-old gabriel york was involved in a terrible fight with two police officers in rome. his friend stabbing one of them to death. >> he said last night we saw in the news that gabriel and the guy that he's visited in rome were arrested in connection with killing of a police officer. >> what's going through your mind at that point? >> i honestly couldn't -- i couldn't process it. >> reporter: the other young man from the bay area claims he stabbed the officer in self-defense but both boys face aggravated murder and attempted extortion charges h the hour long abc 7 originals documentary we produced about the case airs

is the upcoming station. >> reporter: then, there's this. >> sometimes even from just security, they profile me, put in a certain category. >> the bart director requested demographic data on quality of life citations and contacts. they found racial disparity. >> why are we seeing 50% of the citations and arrests, why are they received by folks that are black when we know that's not the population riding our system? >> from 2018 to 2019 an average of 40 citations were issued for smoking and public inintoxication. 50% were issued to blacks. 24% to whites, 18% to latinos. >> we provide the training to officers. they do bias training every two years. they get into police academy and give ito them when they first come to the department. >> reporter: the bart police chief said he is look teg findings and he is stressing racial equity. >> we haven't had any foul violation.

brace 4400 homes this year. word of mouth and referrals is a big part of this program. as a matter of fact, while we were shooting the story, one of his neighbors called to find out what we were covering. he told them about the program. and now that neighbor is interested in applying for the earthquake brace and bolt program. in san jose, david louie, abc 7 news. national tribal leaders are in the bay area to oppose a plan that would cover up that controversial mural at a san francisco high school. tribal leaders held a blessing ceremony at the school district office before delivering a letter in support of the mural. they say the atrocities depicted should not be forgotten. it depicts murdered native-american alongside george washington. the school district voted to cover up the mural last year. >> the truth hurts and that's what this is, it is the truth. and we should -- we need to embrace that, understand that and not let it happen again. >> the native-american leaders

will hold an educational forum at the palace of fine arts today to explain their support for the mural. the assembly begins at 1:30 this afternoon. new details this morning in the terrible tragedy of the helicopter crash that killed kobe bryant and the others. records show that the pew pilot violated warnings before. there were weather related rules. in 2015, the pilot was dedied clearance through lax because of reduced visibility and flew anyway. in last month's crash, the pilot was asking for special permission to fly in foggy conditions. and tomorrow marks exactly one month since the crash, we're learning more about monday's massive memorial at staples center. police are asking anyone who hasn't purchased a ticket to stay away from the area in downtown l.a. 20,000 people are expected at monday's public memorial. fans without tickets are encouraged to gather elsewhere around l.a. several murals and memorials have sprung up around the city

san jose and mainly to monterey bay. so we could see some isolated sprinkles here. but mainly the system is bringing rain to central california. it will continue to move south bringing scattered showers to southern california throughout the day. we have been picking up thunderstorm activity there off the coast and through the central valley. here's a look downtown san francisco. and temperatures are mainly in the 50s. san francisco is 55 right now. oakland, 56. san jose, 56 as well. gilroy down to 49 degrees. and as we look from the east bay out across the bay bridge, it's just a gorgeous day to day. so we will see plenty of sunshine later on. the coolest spots we've seen have been in the north bay because of the clear skies. sanda rosa dropped to 38 degrees. 40 now in petaluma and napa and upper 30s in fairfield. concord, 34. livermore, 52. this is where we get the cloud cover and hoping for some sprinkles today. our best chances of some spifrpg

sprinkles are south of monterey bay. breezy and cooler conditions this weeken the on shore flow returns. temperatures dropping quite a bit, especially near the coast. and then high pressure rebuilds and we're talking much warmer weather next week. i'll show that you as well. so here's our forecast animation. we're tracking that area of low pressure. and really it's going to move south and bringing some rein through southern california and even some scattered showers through arizona for spring training. for us, clear skies especially by noon. plenty of sunshine once again. but with that sea breeze, temperatures not as warm as yesterday. especially for san francisco, a high of only 59. half moon bay, low 60s in oakland. san jose, 68 degrees. in the inland areas, we'll hit some upper 60s. antioch, 69. the fairfield getting to 70. santa rosa, 69 as well. still above average. just not as warm as yesterday.

we'll see some clouds move in along the coast overnight. lows will mainly be in the 40s. cooler in the north bay near 40. santa rosa and napa and upper 40s in freemont. san francisco, 48 degrees. here's a look at the week ahead and why you can expect temperatures to really ramp up. so, for example, in san jose, advertised 63. today will hit about 68. tomorrow, a little cooler because of the on shore flow. high pressure builds. will we'll get this hoff shore flow. temperatures will be in the upper 70s midweek. that's about 15 degrees above average. so here's the accuweather seven-day forecast. cooler weather today. temperatures topping off in the near 70 degree mark for inland areas. we'll see lots of mid 60s around the bay. cooler tomorrow. and then check out that warming trend well above average through the work week. so it's going to feel like spring. unfortunately, it is looking dry through the end of the month. so no rain in sight. >> it just is crazy how much it
