much more on that incredible rescue in just a moment but first a look at the weather. francis in for liz argen. good morning. >> good morning. you may have noticed that sea breeze kicking in bringing cooler temperatures. a look at satellite doppler 7, no rain in sight. there are some clouds over the bay area right now and we'll still see that sea breeze especially in the higher elevations. gusts up to 24 miles per that sea breeze is going to keep us cool today. a live look from the exploratorium camera towards downtown. sunrise 6:49, temps in the 40s and 50s, even fog developing in some of the north bay valleys becoming sunny by lunch time but we'll still see clouds and breezy conditions at the coast. that will keep temperatures in the 60s around the bay and inland areas and 50s at the coast. today is the last day for jackets because i'll tell you about another warm-up coming up. liz. >> thanks, francis.

new this morning, two people are recovering in the hospital after being rescued from mile rock beach in san francisco. they abandoned the boat they were in as it was heading towards the rocks. they got in a life raft and hiked up to an area where firefighters were there to evaluate them. both are thankfully expected to be okay. just a remarkable happy ending to a mystery many assumed had ended in death. even as late as yesterday morning it was authority carol and ian might have been dead but then came the stunning turn of events. they were found alive. if all goes well they could back in palo alto by the end of the weekend. the couple vanished after renting an airbnb in invernes ve saturday. they left their things behind. how the two were found and how they managed to survive. >> reporter: a rescue helicopter pulling two missing hikers to safety.

77-year-old carol and her 72-year-old husband ian irwin found alive at the seashore. rescue teams along with a search daughter named grut found the cummins dense brush. >> they were like thank god you found out. we're so happy. carol and ian are doing okay. they were suffering from slight hypothermia. >> both wearing light jackson but alive and talking. the couple was found three to four miles from the house they rented in inverness. they had missing since valentine's day. >> they left for a hike, got lost in the dark and they don't know what happened after that. the reason they are most likely alive is because they were drinking from a puddle they found near where they were located. >> sheriff officials say ian injured himself in a fall which likely prevented the couple from walking out. >> our prayers answered.

>> inverness neighbors feared the worst. dozens of personnel never gave up trying to find carol and ian. >> in speaking with a search manager we have that's been doing this 40 years and was also involved in the fire service always speaking of the family, it's a miracle. >> reporter: some say the brush where they were found was so dense they had to crawl in. i spoke with the couple's son by phone a short time ago. he said this is the best news ever and is so grateful to the rescue teams. cornell barnard, abc 7. the couple defied miraculous odds emerging alive at that age in marin. the environment benefited the couple by providing -- marin's moist environment benefited the couple by providing them with even a sliver of much needed

background hunter. they know how to find things and eat. they were eating from a fern. >> the couple drank from a puddle of water and had a will to survive. >> my brother said i lost a shoe, so i was walking with one shoe. then i lost the other shoe and i kept walking in my socks. then i got tired walking in my socks and i walked bear feet a while. he's 77 years old. >> recovering at marin health, the sheriff's office snapped a photo of the couple with bruises, scratches and thumbs-up. they are just now sharing stories how they helped each other. >> he was laying his body flat into that awful thorny crap, poison oak, so carol could go over him. >> on behalf of the family, they are grateful for the hundreds of volunteers that went out each day. >> the perp they found them, thank god they found them but i

want to thank those who didn't for being out there on their holiday, their time. this is the best possible ending. >> lauren martinez, abc 7 news. >> a lot of the credit to the rescue goes to the volunteers out searching every single day. a pair from marin search and rescue that found the couple. marin county sheriff's office estimates hundreds out every day spending up to 12 hours combing through trails and brush. yesterday morning the sheriff's office absoluted those teams. we heard from one of the volunteers who found the couple. take a listen. >> i do not think they would have made it without this group of people you see behind me. >> halfway up we hear voices. first another team, then they started yelling help. we looked at each other and we're like, that's them. it took us a long time to move a short distance because it's so thick. >> wow. shortly after crews found the couple abc 7 news between send a push alert. you can get every breaking news sent to your device enabling push alerts from the free abc 7 news app. new this morning a large side show seen overnight in the streets of san francisco. abc 7 news has this brand-new look at the scene near dolores park. at least 100 people gathered near 24th and dolores. market and clayton several showed up to disperse the crowd. no injuries or arrests or if cars were towed. we have calls into the police department for more details. this is the first of what will be six upcoming weekends where they will be no caltrans service in san francisco. ongoing electrification work is closing the caltrain tunnel through the city. trains will terminate at bayshore station. that's where passengers can hop on a free bus to continue attorneys to and from caltrain. the closure continues through the last weekend in march.

weekday caltrain service is not affected. in the east bay air and soil testing under way at the high school after the cancer causing chemical found in nearby ground water. districts officials want to know whether that compound tce seeped into classrooms and buildings. classes canceled for 350 students who attend. the district citing others nearby will hold classes. >> we do not have school monday for the students here or anywhere else. we're trying to figure out where to put them starting tuesday. we're hoping to get back to some semblance of normal by tuesday. results should be back next week or the following week. preliminary results show no signs of tce. in the south bay isn't clar county supervisors expected to approve funding that would help making home safer dedicated to a

mile in napa. we are seeing temperatures drop, bringing them down to the dew point and fog develops. also we're dealing with these gusty conditions especially in the higher elevations. they continue to blow 20 to 30 miles per hour in some areas. right now it's gusting up to 24 miles and mount tamalpais. this sea breeze that kicked in yesterday. you notice the difference in the temperatures. they really took a tumble. we're going to see very breezy and cool conditions again today. this time we're looking out towards the flag over pier 15. temperatures in the 40s and 50s and san francisco's 49, oakland 50 and san jose is 48 degrees right now. as we look across the bay, the bay bridge from emeryville, you see some of those coastal clouds in the distance. in the north bay, that's where temperatures have really dropped and that's why we're seeing that fog. upper 30s right now in santa rosa, plum 39, napa 38 and

fairfield 44 degrees right now. at sfo, got a nice clear shot there but we do have some clouds overhead. here is the forecast. we've got morning fog, low clouds. it will dissipate but we'll see a breezy and cool afternoon. we'll still see the fog stick around or low clouds around the coast. tomorrow we'll have a warming trend and we'll be well above average during the workweek. here is our forecast animation, 7:00 this morning. fog and low clouds. by lunch time it starts to clear out. we still see some low clouds at the coast. this afternoon and this evening, you notice the fog and clouds stay along the coast throughout the day but then clear for tomorrow morning because high pressure builds, temperatures warm up. so we're still going to deal with the wind from the northwest again throughout the day. notice pretty gusty winds anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour, even higher than that. at point reyes, closer to 30

the world health organization is making its first visit to wuhan, china, since the outbreak began. there's more than 2400 deaths worldwide from the virus. a majority of those in china. overnight the death toll in iran jumped to eight people, the highest outside of china. south korea and italy seeing a drastic rise in the number of confirmed cases. u.s. officials are warning we could see the virus start to spread here at home. abc 7 news reporter has the details. >> reporter: amid growing coronavirus crisis, a team of specialists from the world health organization traveling to wuhan, china, the epicenter of the outbreak. there are now 77,000 cases of the virus now called covid-19 worldwide, the majority of the cases in china. south korea seeing an uptick, more than 400 cases diagnosed, 87 linked with a single hospital and church. towns in italy on lockdown,

39. concord 50 degrees right now. so i'll show you the forecast animation. we've got kind of a typical setup. we've got low clouds and fog during the morning hours. by lunchtime it pulls back. we'll still see some partly cloudy conditions along the coast. more sunshine in the inland areas and then high pressure starts to build tomorrow. we'll be off to a mainly clear start with patchy fog still possible through parts of the north bay. highs today similar to yesterday's numbers. so definitely breezy, especially at the beaches today. half moon bay 56 degrees, san francisco 59. we'll see upper 60s in some of the warm einland areas like santa rosa 68, fairfield 67 and san jose will get more sunshine with 64 degrees. look for low 60s around the bay. a little bit like sweater weather along the coast and around the bay. overnight lows will be on the cool side because we'll have less cloud cover. so the areas in the north bay

will be dropping into the 30s where we could see some fog develop once again. then look for mid-40s around the bay to low 40s in some inland areas like concord, livermore, san jose. now, some inland areas are really going to warm up this week, but even in san francisco and along the coast we'll see a warm-up as well. san francisco our average high 61, so we're a little below that. things start to change, warming trend starts. we'll be well above average, 10 degrees above average wednesday, thursday, and friday, and then temperatures tumble on saturday. that's because we have an approaching system heading our way. we're keeping track of that for next weekend. here is the seven-day forecast, accuweather forecast. morning fog, cool afternoon once again. tomorrow the warming trend starts. plenty of sunshine through most of the week. it looks like thursday will be the warmest day for everyone near 80 inland. mid-70s around the bay, even near 70 along the coast.
