rachel, good morning to you. >> reporter: dan, good morning. senator bernie sanders has now won the popular vote in the first three contests, and he is entering the next phase of this primary with the most delegates and the momentum. [ crowd chanting "bernie" ] overnight, senator bernie sanders clinching another victory with a decisive win in the nevada caucuses, and already focusing in on the next early voting states. >> don't tell anybody. i don't want to get them nervous. we are going to win the democratic primary in texas. democratic primary. in the next nine days there will be two more contests. first the south carolina primary, and then super tuesday where more than 1,300 delegates will be up for grabs. dan? >> rachel scott in nevada covering this every step of the way. we really appreciate it. as promised, let's bring in our chief anchor george stephanopoulos who will be hosting "this week" later this morning. george, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> i'll ask you the question i posed at the top. is bernie unstoppable right now? >> maybe not unstoppable, but clearly in control of this race. if you look at it right now, he's the only candidate in position to get a majority of delegates on the first ballot in the convention. that's not super likely right now, but he's the only one who can do it. he's clearly got the best chance to go into the convention with a plurality. all the other candidates are really fighting now to see if they could start to build up momentum, start to build up delegates and prevail in a brokered convention. >> among moderate democrats, there's all this gnashing of teeth and rending of garments about whether bernie can win in a general election against trump. are those concerns valid? >> sure. it's a big test right now
7:06 am
because right now if you look at the label of democratic socialism, socialist, polling shows that americans will push back against that. we also know that president trump is going to do everything he can to pound that home day after day after day. we're hearing and we saw it at the state of the union. we're seeing it at all of his rally speeches. what sanders and his team will say is they can bring new voters into the fold that will overwhelm that concern, but it's a big, big question mark. >> let's talk about some of the folks who came in behind sanders last night. joe biden pretty far behind, but a reasonably solid showing in second, he has a big hurdle to clear in south carolina. what's the path forward for him? >> he's got to win south carolina. there's no question about that. he's been banking his whole campaign on that all along. if he doesn't win south carolina, he really doesn't have a path forward to the nomination. on the other hand, if he does win in south carolina, prevail next week, that will give him some momentum going into super tuesday, and i think then the question will be, if biden wins south carolina, do you see some of the other moderates in the
7:07 am
race, amy klobuchar, pete buttigieg, start to back away and set up a one-on-one contest with bernie sanders? the x-factor there, of course, is mike bloomberg, anticipating your next question right there, and that's a bigger x-factor. >> so i mean speaking of that as an x-factor, is bloomberg likely to turn his massive fortune and against bernie sanders and start running negative ads? >> i don't know the answer to that. the big debate is coming up on tuesday night. he's clearly going to have to do better than he did in last week's debate. i would imagine that he's going to take on bernie sanders directly. try to go on offense. if he does, and if he does have something of a recovery in the debate on tuesday, he's got the bank roll for super tuesday. he could also start to build up delegates as well and create more of a possibility of a brokered convention. >> george stephanopoulos, always great to get your analysis. i really appreciate it. i want to remind everybody george has a big show this morning. he'll go one-on-one with representative james clyburn and trump's national security adviser, robert o'brien. plus, the powerhouse round table
