now news to build a better bay area from abc 7. two local shops in san francisco were each hit by a thief that used the same tactic to steal from the cash register. thank you for joining us. >> the owners are both out hundreds of dollars. and joins us live with more on this story. >> reporter: it's less than 50 seconds. in both cases the suspect waited for police to look away, walked up to the cash registers and walked away with hundreds of dollars. take a look. 7:30 p.m. friday, approximately 12 customers. one of them was this man.

>> reached his arm around, felt for the key, turned it and grabbed the money, closed the drawer and went straight out this way. >> reporter: how long did it take him? >> literally, like, ten seconds. >> those were ten seconds where it was left unattended. the same employees watch the video and recognize the suspect from earlier in the day. they believe he was learning their habits and taking notes. >> he came and came back 15/20 minutes later, grabbed a water and left. >> lee got to work on foot and online. >> i made flyers to pass around to local businesses and people around the neighborhood. >> they recognized the thief. >> we look at the pictures

and -- >> reporter: turns out wednesday around 8:00 p.m., he had become a victim of the performed almost exactly. >> walking to the shop and leaned ever and open up the cash register and walked away. >> reporter: this time they lost $220. a lot for this local shop. >> i just hope that he gets taught before he does it again. >> reporter: they did file a police report. they have not confirmed if both thefts were by the same person. abc 7 news. we're learning more about the miracle rescue today. thigh were found after they had been missing for more than a week.

>> abc 7 news reporter joins us with the story. >> i remember i say it several times. they're alive. we found them. >> reporter: quincy webster was the first to find the couple missing in the point raies wildernize for more than a week. >> we're like what are your names? and we're amazed. because they seem like they got lost yesterday. >> reporter: new images show the remote where 77-year-old carol and her husband, 72-year-old ian irwin were located. several hundred yards from the nearest road. >> they spent the next four days crawling through the brush. i understand from ian, he would stand up and fall into the brush to compress it. >> they set out on a walk

valentine's day and got lost when the sun went down. >> 24 reason they are most likely alive is they were drinking from a puddle they found near where they were locate pd. >> reporter: they were still able to give thumbs up at the hospital they were being treated. but told rescuers they almost had given up hope. friends and neighbors have decorated the couple's home and are planning a big party when they get back. >> we were planning a memorial. this party that i'm going to throw, which is a welcome home celebration of life party was going to be a sorry you're gone celebration of life. it's a very different party. >> reporter: it's still unclear when the couple may be allowed to go home from the hospital. they say they look forward to telling their amazing story of survival at somepoint but for now they're focussed on recovery

and are requesting privacy. >> we do have more details on the couple's ordeal, how they survived and the rescue crews that hemmed save their lives. abc 7 news.com. and residents have questions for police after suffering through a series of loud, chaotic side shows. question number one, why didn't police officers break them up sooner? lauren martinez has our story. it's screeching. >> police responded to four different. >> reporter: 23rd and deloris and 30th and geary woke up to the sound and smells of burning

rubber and smoke. >> there are people rooting him on and an inability to stop what was happening. >> reporter: at the intersection of 30th and geary, several skid marks are still left over. several people who called police. >> and the police came 30 minutes later and they say they couldn't do nothing about it. and they just watched. >> reporter: other neighbors say police did what they could and blocked off streets. >> you can't stand in front of it. you can't stop it. maybe if they'd had more police because there were only like two or three i could see. >> reporter: police say no citations were made, no arrests and no injuries were reported. but the side shows are still under investigation. >> i hope they know more and learn more and hopefully they can do something. some type of consequence because it's not okay.
