>> reporter: the avid hikers told rescuers they set out for a walk on valentine's day from inverness but got lost when the sun went down. >> the reason they are most likely alive is they were drinking from a puddle they found near where they were located. >> reporter: suffering from hypothermia, scratches and bruises, ian and carol were still able to give thumbs up at the hospital where they were being treated, but told rescuers they almost had given up hope. >> they were overjoyed we had found them. >> reporter: friends and neighbors in palo alto have decorated the couple's home and are planning a big party when they get back. >> we were planning a memorial. this party that i'm going to throw, which is a welcome home celebration of life party was going to be a sorry you're gone celebration of life. it's a very different party. >> reporter: it's still unclear when the couple may be allowed to go home from the hospital. in a statement they say they look forward to

of the chemical in the air commonly known as tce. experts are not sure where the traces of it came from on thursday. tce is an issue in several places around the neighborhood. to accommodate different schedules, the meetings are at 5830 and at 5:30. neighbors in four different san francisco neighborhoods have questions for police. they were broken up by loud chaotic side shows ripping through city streets. the first question is why didn't officers break them up sooner. lauren martinez has the story. >> reporter: several side shows in san francisco came with cars, crowds and lots of noise. >> the sound is deafening. >> reporter: police responded to four different side shows that started saturday and lasted until sunday. each show brought 50 to 100

cars. other locations included 23rd and delores, market and clayton streets, loopis and barnville avenue. at the intersection of 30th and geary several skid marks and pieces of tire are left over. tiffany gardner said she was one of several people who called police. >> police finally came 30 minutes later, they said they couldn't do anything about it. they watched. >> other neighbors say police did what they could and blocked off streets. >> i couldn't think of what they could do. you can't stand in front of it. you can't stop it. maybe if they'd had more police because there were only like two or three i could see. >> reporter: police say no citations were made, no arrests and no injuries were reported. but the side shows are still under investigation. >> i hope they know more and learn more and hopefully they can do something. give a ticket out. some type of consequence because

it's not okay. in san francisco, lauren martinez, abc7 news. a priest has been placed on leave by the catholic diocese of oakland over a sexual misconduct investigation. the chronicle reports it stems from a complaint filed in 2002 by a parishioner who said the priest groped her. the priest was accused last year of sexual harassment by five different women. police launched an investigation. the 2002 complaint is being looked at again becaus of these haven't a recent allegations. 20,000 people will be inside staples center known as the house that kobe built for the public memorial for the l.a. laker legend and his daughter gianna. it was a month ago yesterday when the two died along with seven others in a helicopter crash. police have been working to limit crowds around staples center. only fans who have tickets will be allowed at the memorial. >> i grew up here in long beach. it's emotional for me. >> he touched a lot of lives here. it's sad that everyone can't

attend. >> bryant's widow, vanessa, is calling the memorial a celebration of life. today's date of 2/24 being significant, it represents gianna and kobe's jersey numbers. the event will stream at 9:30 on our website, abc7news.com. new developments in the coronavirus outbreak. china is postponing the national peoples congress, its most important political meeting of the year. thousands of delegates were expected to travel to beijing next week. new numbers from china show 77,000 cases with the death toll climbing past 2,500. in south korea, cases have surged past 700 with seven deaths reported. in italy, cases jumped from 3 to 152 just this weekend, a lot of them were around milan. schools are closed and carnival celebrations have been canceled. a brazen thief walks up to cash registers in two packed san francisco shops and makes off with cash.

in san francisco, yeah, looks quiet. let's talk about your commute. there's some foggy spots. that's it. mass transit is pretty good. cool this morning, mild this afternoon. light breezes out on the bay. up in the peninsula, cloud cover this morning then it turns to all sunshine. we jump from 45 at 7:00 to nearing 60 at noon to mid to upper 60s. 64 to 67 degrees from 1:00 to 6:00. how about the east bay valleys. some of that thickest fog, 43 this morning. 62 with sunshine at 11:00. look at that, 68 to 71 degrees from noon all the way through about 6:00. down in the south bay, let's see if you're just as warm. 45 this morning. a little bit of fog this morning could creep into your neighborhoods, 65 to 68 degrees heading through the afternoon hours. i have some 80s in your forecast. >> 80s? did i hear that correctly? >> yes, ma'am. >> wow. my goodness.

danger and police say people can put themselves in danger by agreeing to meet and pay a stranger who claims to have their pet. >> two local shops in san francisco are out hundreds of dollars, each hit by a thief that used the same tactic to steal money straight from the cash register in seconds. we see what the suspect did to get away. >> reporter: 7:30 p.m. friday, there were approximately 12 customers at this restaurant. one of them was this man. >> reached his arm around, felt for the key, turned it, and grabbed the money, closed the drawer and went straight out this way. >> reporter: how long did it take him? >> literally, like, ten seconds. >> reporter: those are the ten seconds when two employees walked to the back of the shop and left the register unattended. >> i did the same thing that night. >> reporter: after losing $400

turning san francisco's financial district into more like a war zone. look at this video of shooting overnight. mir gosh. helicopters flew around the ferry building. explosions were lighting up the night sky and people could hear blasts miles away. filming for the movie has been going on for several weeks now. some streets in the financial district were even closed overnight. several people report seeing keanu reeves at several filming locations. people running through the street streets. >> i saw the helicopter. >> did you. >> i want to be an extra and run through the streets. >> i'll come in a couple hours for that. >> you have to do the whole eight-hour shift. >> i know you inquired. >> let's see if i got time. >> yes. >> eight hours? >> yes. they said be prepared for more.

when i came home, i felt alone. my family was around me, but i couldn't talk to them about what i'd seen and what i'd done. i remember just thinking, man, the way i am right now, i don't want to live. i was discharged from the army, and i've been working with the wounded warrior project since 2007. warriors don't have to be severely wound to be with the wounded warrior project. we do have a lot of guys that have post-traumatic stress disorder. being able to share your story, i guess it kind of helps you wrap your mind around what did happen over there. just because you've left the military doesn't mean your life is over, because when these guys are coming home, i'm kind of leading and training them, instead of for combat, i'm leading and training them to heal. and if i come away with anything from the wounded warrior project, it's them giving my life back. my name is norbie, and yes, i do suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder, but i'm okay. you're in a group most likely to develop skin cancer, including melanoma. that's why your best shot is to check for a spot.
