all. b.a.r.t. is experiencing a ten-minute delay between south hayward and union city. this is in the direction of warm springs, richmond and daly city. so those three directions there. the ferries are on time, ace 1 and ace 3 no delays as well. looking at a live picture showing you the san mateo bridge, lots of brake lights headed towards the peninsula. >> happening today, the oakland unified school district is expected to let parents, teachers and students at mcclymonds high school know where classes are going to be held tomorrow. >> the school has been out ever since cancer causing chemicals were found in the ground water near campus. >> jobina has this story at the live desk. >> the school district will hold two meetings today at west oakland middle school to update the mcclymonds community on this. the high school remains closed today while authorities test the air at the school. they're looking for traces of

the tem cal bchemical better kn tce. district officials stress it is not in the drinking water. they say tce in ground water does not pose an immediate threat, but it could be dangerous if the substance is in the air. >> we won't know until we get the test results back. once we get that we'll have a much greater understanding of is there a threat here? is there a problem that students have to be concerned about or families? once we know that we can figure out how to deal with this going forward. >> so far tests have shown no signs of the chemical in the air. more results are expected later this week or next week. while there's no timeline for a permanent solution, mcclimbeds is hoping to hold classes at a temporary campus starting tomorrow. we'll follow this story closely and bring you updates as they come in. developing news in fairfield. police say they arrested the hit and run suspect who killed a 2-year-old boy.

police say cirilo tellez was the driver involved in yesterday's crash on west texas street. a vehicle hit a toddler who later died. police say tellez initially left the scene but came back several hours later and was taken into custody. investigators say tellez is the victim's uncle and they believe he was drunk during the crash. in the east bay, police in pleasanton are looking for three people behind a home invasion robbery. it happened before 4:00 yesterday morning in the conninger ranch neighborhood. the woman who lives there says two men broke the rear sliding glass door and confronted her with a gun. she says they demanded money and then ransacked the house. security video shows there were actually three men. the victim wasn't hurt. >> now to the coronavirus. president trump has confirmed that americans with the coronavirus will not be sent to a fema location in alabama. the decision comes after officials there raised grave concerns about a plan to use the site as a backup location for infected passengers on board the

diamond princess cruise ship. italy is now the hardest hit country outside of asia with more than 150 people sick from the virus. china postponed its most important political gathering as the country struggles to contain the outbreak. the session was supposed to take place in beijing next month. a new date has not been decided. in just a few hours, 20,000 people will fill staples center for the public memorial for kobe bryant. >> bryant's widow, vanessa, is calling the memorial a celebration of life. today's date of 2/24 being significant, it represents gianna and kobe's jersey numbers.

the event will stream at 9:30 on our website, abc7news.com. president trump is in india for his first visit there since taking office. more than 100,000 people turned south at a welcome rally for the president. he's hoping to highlight america's partnership with one of the world's largest economies. as he heads into a re-election campaign it's a chance for him to get the support of more than 400 million indians back here at home. nancy pelosi is spending the day back at home in san francisco today. she will be meeting with local business owners for a merchant walk through chinatown and a visit to the golden gate fortune cookie factory. then she will join community leaders for a din sum lunch. your voice your vote, bernie sanders' strong win in the nevada caucuses push him ahead as the race moves to south carolina and then to california next week for super tuesday. campaign rivals are now latching on to sanders self-proclaimed democratic socialist title claiming it would hurt him in the general election. >> i don't think he can beat donald trump. >> in our one shot to take on this president, let us take a

wednesday, thursday, friday. finally back to average on sunday. jobina? >> thank you. good morning. we are taking a look at an earlier incident that is now starting to cause a slight backup in san jose. there was a car around 3:45 this morning that went down an embankment near southbound 101 before blossom hill road. they did not have a tow truck to get it out. they needed about 100 foot of cable. now that tow truck is there blocking one lane. that is causing a bit of a slowdown. live look at oakland. purple skies back there. this is a live shot showing you 280 at king street. nice and clear. no major issues. albany to the maze, 6 minutes. fremont to san jose, 15 minutes. highway 101 to cupertino, 11-minute ride. new at 6:00, a reason to make breakfast before you head out the door.

welcome to the find monday in february. it's the 24th. every day has been dry. if you go back three previous day days in january, we're getting close to making the top five list for the driest stretch ever in winter. average february in san francisco, about 4 1/2 inches. last year, nearly 8. this year none. that would be a record. okay happening today, jussie smollett will be walking back in court. a grand jury in chicago revived the actor's criminal case after prosecutors originally dropped

the charges against him. smollett, who is gay and black, claimed he was the victim of a violent racist and homophobic attack. police believe it was staged. today smollett is expected to plead not guilty to new charges of making false statements to chicago police. santa clara county's largest union is threatening another strike this week. they represent hospital janitors to park employees and law enforcement. this is video from the october strike. workers fell out of contract back in june. according to the "mercury news," the union is pushing to have a 3% pay increase starting in june. it says the strike will happen if the settlement is not reached by 4:00 p.m. on thursday. new at 6:00, if you want to burn more calories try eating a large breakfast and a small dinner. changing meal portions can make a difference. researchers looked at a group of healthy men, those who ate a larger breakfast and smaller dinner burned more than twice

the number of calories than those who ate a larger dinner and a smaller breakfast. the amount of energy needed to process a meal is higher in the morning than at night. plastic packaging for berries will get an environmentally friendly upgrade. many current containers for strawberries, blueberries and raspberries are already recyclable but the glue can con contaminate the plastic. that can prevent some of them from being recycled. major berry growers are committing to having fully recyclable containers by 2025. abc7 news is committed to building a better bay area, one thing we're constantly seeing is a desire to leave the region. despite an economic boom, there's a growing dissatisfaction among people living here. the silicon valley leadership group identified the main problems in a survey, they

ravine several hundred yards from the nearest road. the rescuers who were looking in that area figured it was unlikely they would be in this area, thick with brush, but they decided to go ahead and search it, and they were shocked when they found 72-year-old eran irwin and 77-year-old carol kiparsky who told rescuers they went on a valentine's day hike and got lost when it got dark. their sons couldn't believe they were found alive. >> my mother said, you know, i lost a shoe, and so i was walking with one shoe. then i lost the other shoe. i kept walking in my socks. then i got tired of walking in my socks so i was walking bare feet for a wild. she's 77 years old. >> i hope nobody watches this ever understands how happy i am today. >> just amazing. they found a puddle and that's where they got their water from. search crews from six counties

that will be in the library at west oakland middle school. happening this morning, 20,000 people will be inside staples center known as the house that kobe built for a public memorial for the oakland lakers legend and his daughte, gianna. it was a month ago yesterday when the two died along with seven others in a helicopter crash. police have been working to limit crowds around staples center. only fans who have tickets will be allowed at the memorial. >> i grew up here in long beach. it's emotional for me. >> he touched a lot of lives here. it's sad that everyone can't attend. >> bryant's widow, vanessa, is calling the memorial a celebration of life. today's date of 2/24 being significant, it represents gianna and kobe's jersey numbers. you can watch the live stream of the event starting at 9:30 this morning on our website, abc7news.com. new developments in the coronavirus outbreak. china is postponing the national peoples congress, its most important political meeting of

the year. thousands of delegates were expected to travel to beijing next week. new numbers from china show 77,000 cases with the death toll climbing past 2,500. in south korea, cases have surged past 700 with seven deaths reported. in italy, cases jumped from 3 to 152 just this weekend, a lot of them were around milan. schools are closed and carnival celebrations have been canceled. a priest has been placed on leave by the catholic diocese of oakland over a sexual misconduct investigation. the chronicle reports it stems from a complaint filed in 2002 by a parishioner who said the priest groped her. the priest was accused last year of sexual harassment by five different women. police launched an investigation. the 2002 complaint is being looked at again because of these recent allegations. a warning from san francisco police after a man paid a ransom for the return of his stolen

dog. dave ford said he paid $1,000 to get the dog back. she was stolen in a smash and grab theft of ford's car on friday night. he filed a police report and his dog holly and then received a call from a man saying he had her. >> it's like having a kid taken. if it's getting to the point where dogs are being taken out of cars, nothing can be left in a car. >> ford says he wants to warn other pet owners about the danger and police say people can put themselves in danger by agreeing to meet and pay a stranger who claims to have their pet. they are advising against that. all this week we're taking a close look at b.a.r.t. the problems, and the solutions. coming up next, the key thing b.a.r.t.'s gm believes will help fix a lot of issues that riders are facing. and we're watching the big board carefully. look at those numbers. the dow started off 950 points down at the open. now you can see we're still

blooming. gorgeous scenery. let's talk about the fog up in the north bay. stretching from the napa valley across 37 to novato and san rafael where we drop from 39 at american canyon to 37 there. we have 35 in rohnert park, elsewhere, we have fog in the tri valley and some of that is slipping through the sunol grade, you hit 47 in san jose. 43 in newark. alame alameda, 50. whoa. iris got bright on our camera there, across the san mateo bridge, you can see a lack of fog and also on 880 looking north towards oakland from the coliseum and the arena and heading towards what's a quiet bay bridge toll plaza, at least fog-wise. driving, fog is the only issue. cool this morning, mild this afternoon. limbed breezes heading deeper into the forecast. 44 this morning in the peninsula, mid to upper 60s from noon to 6:00. spiking around 67 degrees. east bay valleys, 42 this morning. in the 70s around for a couple
