turned around and chased him. >> to the entryway of my building, and he hit me two to three times in the face, broke my nose in two places. >> reporter: police say this was one of four side shows that broke out all across san francisco, with 50 to 100 people each blocking roads for 15 to 20 minutes. did you see police officers out here? >> i saw one police vehicle. i was under the false assumption that the area was secure, but in hipd police were outnumbered. >> i understand it was quite well organized. >> reporter: they confirmed there was no arrests, no citations and no injuries at the other four locations. but this man's face tells another story. >> we need to deal with the violation associated with what happened in this particular case. >> reporter: the mayor said sfpd officers were able to figure out

locations and responded. >> part of the challenge we have is we need to strengthen our laws like oakland did and have the ability to confiscate the vehicles that are involved in these side shows. >> reporter: we spoke to a member of the san francisco police department who confirmed they are working on finding a solution, but it's a question of resources and public safety. in san francisco, luze news. >> so if there were what were they doing if there were no arrests? >> reporter: they're basically taking notes, taking down license plates and working to identify who these people might be. back to you. >> thank you. oakland's former police chief is breaking her silence after being abruptly fired last week. caught off guard, she is firing back at the mayor and the police commission that voted to oust her. reporter laura anthony is live

in the newsroom with what the former chief had to say tonight. laura? >> reporter: that's right, dan, anne kirkpatrick said she will not be going away quietly, saying explosive things about the way she was treated, saying there might be legal action and a lot more to come for the real reasons on her abrupt firing. >> i don't think they ever had confidence in me. >> reporter: anne kirkpatrick is firing back at a city commission and olivia schaaf for her abrupt firing last thursday. are you upset or angry? >> not angry. i will tell you i'm disappointed. i'm embarrassed. >> reporter: commission chair regina jackson said the chief's firing was without cause. but jackson went on to say that the commission had lost confidence in kirkpatrick who had openly sparred with commissioners in past meetings. >> i am not going to have a police chief speak to our staff

in that manner. >> reporter: they also criticized her for failing to fire four officers involved in a 2018 shooting that left joseph pollack dead. do you feel like the mayor turned on you? she was oe of your biggest supporters. >> i was surprised and disappointed in her, yes. i was disappointed. > reporter: why? >> i believed her. >> reporter: unlike those who fired her, kirkpatrick believed she had made significant progress toward complying with the federal monitor's goals, including violence reduction and hiring more women and minority officers. kirkpatrick told us she will ask the u.s. department of justice to investigate, and she's considering legal action against the city. abc 7 news has learned the base f -- basis for her legal claim may be alleged retaliation for her refusal to grant special favors to at least one member of the police commission.

except for maybe a patch or two of fog in the hills. we'll have more warm and sunny days coming our way through friday. and no rain is likely to fall in the bay area before march 1st, but that's only a few days away now. looking over the embarcadero from our rooftop camera, we have had no measurable rainfall here in the bay ar, and that includes san francisco which, by the way, last year in february had nearly eight inches of rain. that's here in the city. the highest rainfall total in the month of february ever in san francisco was back in 1998, almost 15 inches of rain fell that february, but this year looks like we're going to have a completely dry month. it may not last very long, though. we're looking at our projection for rainfall totals on march 1st, which is just six days away now. san francisco may pick up about .400 of an inch of rain

deviating. hollywood mogul harvey weinstein is now in the hospital. earlier today he was taken into custody after being convicted on rape and sexual assault charges involving two women in new york city. weinstein was headed to jail at rikers island when he started complaining of chest pain and had to go to bellevue hospital to get checked out. today's verdicts could check the 67-year-old to prison for up to 29 years. the same panel also acquitted him on two more serious charges that carried life sentences. weinstein will return to court in manhattan for sentencing on march 11th. he also faces sexual assault charges in los angeles. thousands of fans honored kobe bryant and his daughter gianna. today's memorial came almost a month after they and seven others died in a helicopter crash. >> reporter: beyonce kicked off

points. we have learned a 1-year-old girl injured in a hit and run has died. sky 7 flew above the scene at mantas roads. the girl was in the crosswalk. the truck hit her before 3:30 this afternoon. they are looking for a black chevrolet truck that appears to be lifted, meaning it has special elevated suspension system, so it is fairly distinctive. we'll be thinking about that girl's family all evening, but we'll move on. in the south bay, thousands of people are told to surrender their guns every year because of domestic violence. only a small number are actually held accountable. santa clara county is starting a new program to change that. chris nguyen has the story from san jose. >> in santa clara county, a new law enforcement team could be created to identify and remove firearms from gangsters, felons

or those who are the victims vic orders. this week county supervisors could vote on a plan to add five new members to the district attorney's crime strategist unit, including a designated prosecutor and investigatoinves using a combination of grant money and funds. >> if we don't get our hands around it, we'll continue to see carnage and devastation. >> there was a murder suicide driven by a family dispute in what would become one of the deadliest killings in the city. aggravated assaults have been on the rise in san jose in recent years, but police continue to plug away, getting illegal weapons off the street as seen here in pictures shared by the department. >> any time there is a weapon involved, it's going to be dangerous. and so we approach that very carefully. >> reporter: city and county officials urging the public to call 911 if

most cost efficient, but depending on how close you live to a station, not always. we looked at one east bay commuter and the four options she considered. the results, well, they may surprise you. >> i travel from alameda to san francisco, and i think the best way to commute is -- >> what is the best way? lydia tom has several options for her daily commute from alameda to downtown san francisco and back home again. she knows which one she likes. >> it's very easy to get there and back. >> reporter: but which is the most cost effective? we did the math. >> i probably would not be able to carpool. >> reporter: she could drive which a lot of commuters feel gives them the most flexibility. or does it? >> i would probably lose at least an hour to get through the bay bridge, then drive into the financial district where i work. >> reporter: not only would she be mired in traffic, it would be expensive. according to the irs' mileage

allowance, it costs about 58 cents per mile to drive a car. multiply that by 26 miles round trip for lydia. it would cost $15.08 per day for gas and maintenance. up it with the bridge toll and she's up to 22 bucks a day. we did find a $20 all-day flat rate parking for early birds. add it to that total, and it brings her daily total to $42 a day. >> it's too expensive. and i wouldn't do it. >> what about ab transit? from alameda to san francisco is $12 round trip. she would get dropped off at the transit center a half mile from her work. economical, but what about b.a.r.t.? >> i would first have to get to b.a.r.t. from my house. >> reporter: here's the breakdown. she could drive four miles to the closest b.a.r.t. station,
