starting on the first train out here in antioch, and i will start riding on the system. we will have crews riding until the very end of the day. we want to see what's going on. a year ago when we did this, we heard a lot of complaints about crowded trains. we heard about fare evaders. not enough parking. we heard about homeless people using the stations to sleep and do drugs. a lot has changed in the last year on b.a.r.t. walnut creek station has a big change. they've opened up a parking structure there. b.a.r.t. has added officers and fare inspectors to check all trains at the embarcadero for proof of payment or those people who didn't pay are getting escorted out of the system. b.a.r.t. at peak commute hours still crowded, still doing well as far as business. but weekends and nights have tapered off. they're not doing as much business at that point. so we'll be talking to people about all of these issues, what do they think, what grade would they give b.a.r.t. this past year, what do they think of the

young girl. >> it happened at crow canyon and manter road. a neighbor shared security camera image of this black ford f-150 truck with large tires. police believe this truck hit the 12-year-old and then took off. the girl was crossing the street with her cyst wher thsister whe happened. chp has obtained videos from home security cameras to help catch the driver. julian glover is on the story and will bring us an update in the next half hour. at the live desk police arrested two suspects accused of running over two people in haight-ashbury. police say the pair rammed their vehicle into a police cruiser in twin peaks around 9:30 last night. officers say the suspects were yelling at a homeless -- excuse me, were yelling at homeless people in the haight, drove onto the sidewalk, hit two people, drove off and then hit a building. the two people hit are expected to be okay. about ten minutes later officers

responded to reports of shots fired in the twin peaks area on crown terrace. >> they spotted a car coming towards them at a high rate of speed. the officers attempted to get out of the way, but the car accelerated and made contact and actually struck the front of their patrol car. >> the two suspects then tried to run away, but officers caught up with them. the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. police have not released any other details about the suspects and none of the other officers involved were hurt. students at mcclymonds are heading back to class but will be at three other schools. ninth graders will go to ralph bunche. mcclymond's has been closed to find out if a cancer causing chemical is inside the school because it was found in the groundwater near campus.

final results are expected at the end of the week. oakland's former police chief is telling possible replacements think twice and don't come for her old job because they won't have it for long. anne kirkpatrick sat down with reporter laura anthony days after she was fired by the city's police commission. the former chief says she will ask the u.s. department of justice to investigate, and she's considering legal action against the city. abc 7 news has learned the basis for her legal claim may be alleged brutalation. >> you will know and i do know and in a course of time that's not going to be far in distance and time i will be sharing the significant information that will be forthcoming. >> we did not reach commissioner harris but did hear back from the commission chair. she said any allegation was retaliation for refusal to do favors and is unfounded and untrue. developing in the race to

stop the spread of coronavirus this morning topping more than 80,000 cases globally. president trump is requesting emergency funding as the outbreak just led to the worst day for the dow in two years. abc news reporter serena marshall is live in washington with more on this. good morning, serena. >> reporter: the house speaker has responded to the $2.5 billion funding request calling it long overdue and completely inadequate putting forward their own spending package to combat the virus. from the empty streets of italy to the shuttered schools of iran the impact of the coronavirus moving beyond to china and taking hold across the globe. on pennsylvania avenue a $2.5 bllion request sent to congress to help combat the deadly virus. >> it is time to prepare. it is time to do everything you would do in preparing for a pandemic. >> reporter: fears sent the dow plunging. investors concerned over economic production and supply

anti-government killings. reggie? thanks, jobina. stanford has finally installed a plaque with a quote from sexual assault vic chanel miller, attacked by former student brock turner. the plaque was scrubbed. it's at the site where turner assaulted miller and the plaque culminates a four-year battle. >> she wrote, you took my time, my privacy, my energy, and so forth. and, of course, the you referred to brock turner. at this point i think the you refers not only to mr. turner but also to stanford. >> the quotation is from miller's victim's statement. stanford originally rejected it but then reversed the decision in november. happening today santa rosa leaders will vote on which legal team it wants to represent the city's claims against pg&e for the disastrous kincade fire. according to the press democrat santa rosa is hoping to recover hundreds of thousands of dollars lost in defending the city last

year. the night the fire started pg&e had cut power for much of the region but had deactivated high-voltage lines near the fire's origin. the official cal fire investigation is ongoing. self-driving cars are already in the works so the next step could be something that we could only fantasize about, a personal flying vehicle. a group of students is working to make it happen as they proep for a competition in the bay area. repo . >> reporter: why ride a bike when you could fly one instead. >> we take what is best and we put them in one package. >> reporter: ivan is part of a group of 35 students here from the netherlands. >> our aircraft sits on its tail. >> reporter: they spent the past two years designing and building the s-1 aircraft from scratch. >> the exciting thing is you draw something on paper and then you start building it and then it comes out and looks like this. it already looks very sleek in

look at all the snow developing in the upper midwest heading down to places like st. louis and over to chicago over the next 24 hours or so. if you're heading that way, could be some delays. definitely have to dress differently than what we have here. 70 in san francisco. richmond, fremont, 75. san jose, 76 along with livermore. antioch, 78. the same thing at napa. near 80 in santa rosa today. tonight still going to be cool out there. a lot of mid to upper 40s. tulle fog off the coast. for the most part with an offshore breeze that fog is not coming back anytime soon. saturday at 2:00 in the afternoon, a small area of low pressure just like yesterday. this is the only medium range model that says we could have a chance of wet weatherunday morning. the other model says absolutely nothing. if we do get something it will be, of course, march 1st which means we'll go completely dry for february and less than .05 of an inch of rain. the 70s come back. jobina? good morning, everyone.

with video cameras to battle theft by people who try to get around those weight sensors. target says about a third use self-check-out machines where they're installed. shoppers are becoming more used to the technology as customers use automated check-out. imagine taking a math or science class while on skates together with the san jose sharks. that's a lot. more than 150 students from the union, gilroy and oak grove school districts are getting the field trip of a lifetime today. they will head to the s.a.p. center to learn how science, technology, engineering and math come into play. at the end of the on ice lessons students will get to go on a tour of the sharks locker room. actress lucy liu will be the key speaker today. this is her first u.s. museum exhibition of paintings and sculpture. her work was recently on display
