>> and i'm >> two more passengers on the diamond princess cruise ship have died bringing the total to six. >> a british man is the latest death, the first person from that country to die from the disease and we learned there's a new case of coronavirus in santa clara county. >> amanda del castillo is live in san jose with the latest on this for us. amanda. >> reporter: this is the third confirmed case in santa clara county to describe this patient as an older adult woman, someone who was recently hospitalized for respiratory illness, now her doctor requested the health department test her for coronavirus. results came in just last night. what's most alarming is the source of transmission. according to the county public health department this is a case of community transmission. meaning the patient has had no known exposure to the virus through travel or close contact with the known infected person.

>> but this case does signal to us that it's now time to shift how we respond to the novel coronavirus. the public health measures that we have taken so far isolation, quarantine, contact tracing, and travel restrictions have helped to slow the spread of disease, and we will continue to implement them. we will continue to trace close contacts of our cases to try to limit the spread of the virus. but now we need to add other -- >> reporter: you'll remember the nation's first case of community tra transmission was reported in solano county earlier this week. extremely alarming considering this would mean the virus is spreading among two separate communities without a known source at this point. now, while we were speaking with county health officials, i did ask whether they can really tell us exactly the location of where this woman may have frequented,

what communities she's a part of, and they say they wouldn't elaborate because they are still working on identifying contacts and learning exactly the extent of this possible spread here. again, the third case confirmed in santa clara county. reporting live in sanjose, amanda del castillo, abc 7 news. >> thank you. in solano county they're keeping an eye on two people who were on that diamond princess cruise ship. these are people who already tested positive for coronavirus. >> the county is also still trying to figure out how a woman at a hospital got infected. abc 7 news anchor eric thomas is following this story and live from fairfield. >> reporter: they knew 24 people flown in from the diamond princess cruise ships had tested positive for the coronavirus. what the county just learned is that two of those people were locals so care for them has been turned over from cdc to the county. and as you mentioned, the county is also trying to keep people from giving into their fears

about this. the two patients were aboard the diamond princess cruise ship under karn quarantine in japan until they were flown to travis air force base. they had already tested positive for coronavirus in japan. the cdc confirmed the positive result for one and are awaiting test results on the other. since they both live in solano county, the county health department is now responsible for them. >> by doing that, we were able to send them to their home, home isolation, much more comfortable environment for them. >> neither patient is showing symptoms but are being tested each day to see when the virus clears out of their bloodstream, and they can no longer spread the virus, but residents know that two dozen people flown in from japan to travis air force base carried the coronavirus. the third case a woman was treated here at north bay vaca m valley hospital before being transported to uc taifdavis. we talked to people who live near the hospital. >> we all know the unknown is

frightening, and i'm experiencing that. >> sherry didn't want her face shown. >> i might not want to go into the hospital right now until more information is determined. >> reporter: 93 hospital workers who may have come in contact with the female patient are spending 14 days at home to see if they caught the virus. doctors don't know where the woman picked up the virus, but chances are she won't be alone. >> the likelihood is there are many people out there nonsymptomatic or mild symptomatic who are noneless spreading to other people. >> reporter: they are saying that to make sure people know they expect more cases to pop up here in solano county but they don't expect it to be anything they can't handle. that is one of the worrisome things about this version of the coronavirus is that some people have the virus, but they show no symptoms of having the virus. it's tough to figure out how to keep them from spreading it. but once again, so far, only

three local cases and they are all in isolation at this point. live in fairfield, eric thomas, abc 7 news. >> eric, thank you very much. we just got off the phone with one of those coronavirus patients whose quarantine at home in solano county. robert young and his wife are isolated in their home in rio vista. he says they don't feel that bad, as you heard from the experts, sometimes the symptoms are not serious. he said it feels like they have allergies. robert is a retired firefighter, who says he thought he had seen it all until now. >> it's absolutely an ordeal, we have pets our children are taking care of in another city, and through this entire event. simple things like getting groceries and toilet paper and sundries, we're at the mercy of, you know, family and friends purchasing it for us and then putting it in the driveway, and then we pick it up. we can't have any direct contact. how could you expect something like this. i'm a career firefighter,

paramedics i thought i had seen everything in the world. no, this doesn't even come close to it. >> our thanks to robert young talking to us from his home in solano county where he and his had wife are isolated with the coronavirus. you heard him say it's challenging, and annoying, but doing what is safe for themselves and the community by saying at home. as we move on, another rough day on wall street as concerns over the coronavirus sent stocks tumbling again. today it dropped 357 points, for the week, it plunged more than 3,500 points. this is the worst week of trading since the onset of the financial crisis in october of 2008. amazon says it has banned over a million products over claims they could cure or prevent the spread of coronavirus. they are suspending or banning accounts of merchants jacking up the prices of items such as face masks or disinfectants. >> mayor london breed led

schools. abc 7 reporter david louie has details. >> reporter: concern for the welfare of children is prompting a number of districts to send out tips on how to deal with coronavirus. most are common sense steps such as hand washing and covering coughs and sneezes. parents say they are hungry for advice. >> the community has questions, the public has questions, it's incumbent upon the organization to have the proactive answers. >> reporter: the superintendents of 23 san mateo county school districts put coronavirus on their monthly meeting agenda to discuss how they will handle a child with suspicious symptoms >> we're going to ask that they go home, and then we're going to ask that the families contact their personal medical providers and then the health department and protocols take over from there. >> reporter: it's part of an effort to review and update a pandemic plan that was last updated for h1n1, also known as swine flu, even if schools might have to close, new technology

airport this morning when a small plane made an emergency crash landing on the runway. a yeah, that plane was flying in from idaho falls regional airport. the pilot was trying to land at reed view airport when they reported mechanical problems. the pilot burned off fuel, glided down, sliding for a few feet before coming to a stop. four people were on board and luckily nobody was hurt. five commercial flights had to be diverted, though, because of the incident. >> looks like very clear thinking and the pilot did a good job. >> perfect landing. >> under those circumstances. let's talk about the weekend weather forecast. >> well, sandy, i know you continue to watch for rain drops. >> i'm looking, searching, can't find any. i want to tell you what it looks like in terms of the monthly ca calendar. we're looking at dry conditions, so obviously dry through today, we are expecting it to remain dry for your saturday. this is going to be a record setting month. san francisco expected to tie
