kreutz. as you wake up, we want to let you know how it's going to be outside today. a look at the forecast with lisa argen. hey, lisa. >> good morning to you. a lot of cloud cover here across the bay area. not talking any fog. temperatures are cool. they cooled down yesterday. it's 45 in oakland as well as fremont and napa and nevada, 40 santa rosa and looking at 24 hour temperature change. pretty significant, 2 to 9 degrees cooler from livermore, san jose and oakland. looking at forecast clouds to start out. partly cloudy throughout the afternoon. another cool one, mid and upper 50s by noontime. by 4:00 the winds are picking up. a wind advisory in the hills. along the coast all through the evening. them it gets quite gusty for everyone. it's going to be a chilly night. we're talking about offshore winds which, of course, are a problem when you haven't had rain for an entire month. so we'll talk about the dry conditions that need to be vigilant today and a warm-up to start the workweek coming up.

julian. >> thank you, lisa. let's get you to the latest now on the spread of the coronavirus in the bay area. now a fourth confirmed case in santa clara county. officials saying this patient is an adult woman who lives with the person who is the third confirmed case. she's not hospitalized or ill we're told. other major headlines. seattle man is the first confirmed death in the u.s. this made news saturday in washington state. president trump confirming it where he updated cases to nearly 70. meantime a student at uc davis quarantined tested negative for the virus. worldwide there are 87,000 cases now. one of the big developments surrounding the virus is the number of people now scrambling to get disinfectants and stock up on food. there's raised concern as health officials warn the number of coronavirus cases could jump in the coming days. as abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez reports, south bay

the rally starts at 1:30 at the san jose convention center. doors open at 11:30. it is free and open to the public. the south carolina prime is in the books now. it was joe biden's contest to lose but he held strong there. the former vice president took a decisive victory winning by nearly 30 points. it will give his campaign a crucial boost heading into super tuesday. it's his first ever win as a presidential candidate. senator sanders came in a far second. despite coming in third, san francisco billionaire tom steyer dropped out of the race last night. steyer spent nearly $24 million on tv ads in south carolina alone. a lot of money. yesterday was his strongest finish yet. he said there's no question his campaign is disappointed with where they stood. >> honestly, i can't see a path where i can win the presidency. i of course will be supporting. i said from the beginning, every democrat is a million times better than trump. trump is a disaster. >> after super tuesday 40% will

developing news out of san francisco. firefighters have contained a four alarm fire in bay view, destroyed a towing house, restaurant and residential unit. you can see the flames shooting in the air. firefighters say the main warehouse collapsed. two people who lived in the upstairs unit, they no longer have a place to live. the owner of the restaurant did escape the flames. fire officials say the high winds cannot help on the flight. >> we have live wires down across multiple avenues. we have vehicles adjacent to this hot, burning warehouse fire that are potentially going to catch on fire. >> again, winds contributing to the fire. crews contained the flames nearly three hours after the fire started. thankfully no one was hurt.

the cause of the fire is under investigation. we sent this breaking news notification on abc 7 news app within moments of the fire first breaking out. if you want an alert like this in the future, the app is free to download in the app store. alsn this morning. he's accused of driving into a group of teenagers on purpose. police arrested 18-year-old adibi of san mateo yesterday. they say he drove onto a sidewalk in burlington and hit four teens before speeding away. thankfully witnesses followed adibi and police were able to catch him. two of the victims had major injuries. all four from san mateo. facing attempted hit-and-run and homicide charges. police are trying to determine why he did this in the first place. really terrifying dash-cam video to show you on a car who crashed on the way to santa cruz. watch this. maisey liquiz. you can see the long beach

woman's vehicle veer off across the lane, missing that the tree and tumbles down the embankment. she yells out "i'm dead" a >> rolled over, hand over my head. the seat belt airbag didn't go off. i called 911 and they tracked me and found me at the bottom, >> check it out. she snapped the photo of where the '06 mitsubishi landed. she was treated for spine fracture and concussion and said the near death experience gave her a new appreciation and happiness for life. that car looks awful. it's a miracle she's alive. this the chilling cell phone video has bloen up over the last week or so. an elderly man harassed after picking up cans. after a week of outrage this morning, a gofundme account has been set up to help this man.

community youth center is behind it. they said the money raised will help the man with rent and bills. one suspect has been arrested in the incident and police are currently looking for a second at this time. some new developments this morning with the striking graduate students at uc santa cruz. 54 have been fired for refusing to turn in undergraduate student grades. the graduate students walked out seeking higher wages. the strikes started in december with 200 teaching assistants deciding not to turn in grades from the fall. they demanded a raise of over $1400 a month saying they need the bump in pay to offset the high cost of living. just in case you needed a reminder of what snow looks like, check it out right here. abc 7 news meteorologist caught with up in tahoe last night. must have been pretty nice up the there. as you know it's been blown dry.

just capped the driest in february since the civil war era. for that and more of the forecast we'll check in with lisa argen. we're crossing our fingers for the sprinkles you've been talking about. that's how desperate we are. >> we are desperate. it's far out there. it's not going to be a lot of rain. don't get too excited about it. we still have the month to go, looks more promising toward the middle of march. as we look at live doppler 7 we're going to pass along some stats for another record we pictherere brin drew six hours of that in the sierra nevada and see 6" of snow. february 2020 no rain at all. the driest stretch, 43 days, since 1864 going to march 11th that would be 43 dry days....

if we get to march 11th with no rain? it's a possibility unfortunately. remember emme anyone in '97, '98, that's when we had almost 15" of rain in the bay area. i remember that vividly. last year almost 8" of rain, so really a pretty good year. this year, of course, nothing. 4 1/2" of rain is the average for february. say good-bye to that dry month and offshore flow today. some dry conditions. we have enough moisture in the soil we're not too worried about this offshore event today and wind advisory. although we've had no rain for february, still it's a concern with relative humidity dropping out there and the winds kicking up throughout the afternoon and overnight hours. 37 in gilroy right now. it is 46 in redwood city, in oakland and san francisco. beautiful view from mount tam with the cloud cover 40, santa rosa. 50 by delta. we'll get into partly cloudy skies today. a cool one and winds kick up in the hills throughout the morning

hours. 4:00 the rest of the bay area from san francisco, the peninsula, down to the santa cruz mountains. this will take us right on through monday morning with those offshore winds and temperatures climbing into monday. but we are looking for dry and mild weather for much of the week. but by the end of the week, things are looking maybe a little promising. as we go through the day in sierra nevada, 2 to 5" of snow. here is our wind advisory. east bay, dabbiablo range, moun tam, through the peninsula, very gusty. winds up to 30, 35 miles an hour. here is a look at those winds into the overnight hours. 5:00 through about 2:00 in the morning. fast winds out there. they are offshore. here is a look at that next chance. how about our only chance of showers we've seen in a while. friday into perhaps saturday. could see a splash out there. we're not talking a big storm, not talking an atmospheric

living with the third person confirmed to have the virus in the county. she's said to not be hospitalized or ill at this point. washington state confirmed a person with coronavirus has died. the man in his 50s had underlying health issues and is the first death related to the virus in the u.s. meanwhile doctors say if you're experiencing symptoms like a fever and shortness of breath, go to the er. >> if they develop mild symptoms you want to check in with your health care provider. if you don't have a health care provider, you want to call local hospital emergency room or local department of public health. >> governor gavin newsom says the state only has about 200 testing kits left. cdc pledging to get more test to california and other state and local clinics across the country soon. in palo alto two students sent home from school after district officials learned they might have been exposed to the coronavirus. key words being might have. crews spent yesterday scrubbing down at least two campuses as a

precaution. abc news reporter cornell barnard has that story. cleaning crews disinfecting door knobs, water fountains and classrooms at j.l. stanford middle school. cleanup happening at palo alto high school after district officials learned a parent of two students was possibly exposed to coronavirus. on the district's website, the superintendent said as a precautionary measure, the district immediately took action and two students sent home and will be excluded from attending school until we receive more information. >> concerning? >> absolutely. >> some people attending saturday's sporting events at palo alto high didn't know about the virus scare. >> i teach as well, so definitely very conscious of that. airborne, you know, come in contact and things of that sort. i think we were caught with our pants down because we're not prepared for it. >> i'm more concerned about the older people in the community

we're talking winds of 15 to 25 miles an hour out of the north. so that's offshore. going to get quite gusty. could see 45-mile-an-hour gusts. everyone will feel the winds tonight. it is going to be a blustery evening. the first part of the day not bad. check it out. a beautiful view here from santa cruz. a dry month. looking at continuation of a dry pattern at least to start the first week of march. can you see just a few returns there but really we're talking about cloud cover across the bay area. a few fringe else, central coast, southern california, and a burst of snow in the mountains. sea lions here downtown where temperatures are in the 40s, san francisco, oak, 41 in san jose. it is 36 in gilroy. you can see the view from san jose where it is a little gray. partly cloudy skies. 46 in livermore. our snow in the mountains

through noontime talking about winter weather advisory, about 6" to come here. partly cloudy skies, cool today. okg a pattern later on to start the upcoming workweek. the end of the week looking more interesting. 2 to 5" of snow in the mountains and then we talked about those winds. they are really going to kick up out of the north. that's an offshore component. so the relative humidity decreases. we're drying out the atmosphere. we've had no rain for february. the moisture isn't totally dry, certainly moisture out there but not enough to keep us comfortable. as we go through the 5:00 hour, check how fast winds are, 30 to 40 miles an hour and we're look continuing into your monday. temperatures climb as a ridge of high pressure builds in for monday. we're a bit concerned about that. so you should certainly take it ease-o easy if you're going to be outside today. you will with the numbers. check out tuesday.

mid and upper 70s again. by wednesday things begin to change. looks like the ridge wants to break down. by friday could see a few light showers. we're talking very minimal. a longways away. saturdays painting a wet picture as well. hopefully that holds together. cool day, 50s in the peninsula. we'll do that again with winds picking up second half of the day, 60 palo alto, low 60s inland, accuweather seven-day forecast, cool on the coast, windy throughout the day. those offshore winds for march not what we want after a dry month but it's a warm several days before we cool back and hopefully break some rain through this dominant ridge, this stubborn ridge with us way too long. if we go to march 11th, that will be 43 dry days. another record, so hopefully not. >> incredible we didn't see any measurable rain for entire month of february. hopefully we don't ease through march with the same issues there. >> it's got to change. >> something has to give. thank you, lisa.
