oakland. it's a cool 48 in san jose. it's been cool, you know that with the winds, but they have dialed back for now. they will be back. 50 in concord and over the last 24 hours, we have cooled down significantly. so a cooler start for your sunday. here is a look, what you can expect throughout the day today. and we're looking at not only the cloud cover and looking at that thinning out throughout the day, but numbers will be cool with windy conditions arriving tonight. we're talking gusty winds. we'll talk more in detail about that. a warmup on the way. >> let's get you to the latest on the spread of the coronavirus here in the bay area. a fourth confirmed case in santa clara county. officials saying this patient is an adult woman who lives with a person who is the third confirmed case in the county. she's not hospitalized or ill. a seattle man is the first confirmed death in the u.s. this made news saturday in washington state.

president trump confirmed that in a white house briefing where he also updated the number of u.s. cases to nearly 70. a student at uc davis who had been quarantined has tested negative for the virus. worldwide there are currently 87,000 cases. the number of people now scrambling to get disinfectants and stock up on food. there's concerns as the number of the cases should start to jump in the coming days. as lauren martinez reports, south bay residents are taking the warning seriously. >> everyone is stocking up on toiletaper towels, water. >> the costco in mntain view ran out of bottled water and clorox wipes. their doors opened to a massive crowd of 850 people. these people are stocking up on food that could last them a long

time. >> dry food and frozen food so we can stay home. i think there's news coming that we need to stay away, stay home and things like that. >> reporter: other south bay residents just came to shop but couldn't find what they're looking for. >> the meat counters are completely empty. i've never seen anything like that at costco. i don't understand it. it's not an earthquake. >> reporter: we spoke with this doctor from ucsf on friday night. she says the general population should stay calm. >> people should not be wearing masks currently to protect themselves from covid-19 unless you're instructed to do so by a health care worker. good general rules for the general population is not to panic with the current coronavirus. >> reporter: lauren martinez, abc7 news. let's talk about new cdc rules and guidelines. coronavirus testing kits being sent here to california. there's been a strain on testing

morning. it was joe biden's contest to lose and he did hold on strong. the former vice president took a victory winning by nearly 30 points. it will give his campaign a crucial boost heading into super tuesday. it's his first ever win as a presidential candidate. here's rachel scott. >> reporter: overnight, joe biden scoring his first victory, celebrating a demanding lead in heart of the democratic party, we just won and we've won big because of you. you try to measure it through the primaries, see who has the organization, see whose message is selling and see who can get crossover people. >> we're a few days away from super tuesday. it's interesting to look at the ground game for these candidates as well when we talk about enthusiasm. we're seeing a lot of enthusiasm for bernie sanders here in the state but he's also been campaigning here a lot. he's coming again on sunday -- >> he's been campaigning for president for six years, at least. he has the organization out there in the early states of iowa, new hampshire. the others had to go from the ground up and build it. i think they were more preoccupied with that. bernie has the freedom to come to california more often. buttigieg has a ground game here. and others -- and warren has a ground game. >> warren has somewhat of a ground game. >> bloomberg has a ground game and an air game going. >> we have seen surrogates

here shooting smoke into the air last night. this is near toland street. two people who lived in the upstairs unit, they no longer have a place to live. the owner of the restaurant escaped the flames. firefighters said the high winds did not help their fight. >> we have live wires down and we have vehicles adjacent to this hot-burning warehouse fire that are potentially going to catch on fire. >> cruise contained the flames nearly three hours after that fire first started. thankfully no one was hurt. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. if you have the abc news app you know we sent this breaking news within moments of the fire first breaking out. if you want alerts like this in the future, the app is a free download. a san mateo man is in jail this morning accused of driving into a group of teenagers on

person. police arresting this 18 easterly directi 18-year-old of san mateo. he hit fourteens before speeding away. police were eventually able to catch him. two of the victims had major injuries. he's facing felony hit-and-run and attempted homicide charges. police are trying to determine what caused him to do something like this in the first place. this cell phone video so chilling and it absolutely blew up on line. it shows an elderly asian man being attacked and robbed, picking up cans in the district, after a week of outrage, there's a gofundme account that's been set up to help this man. the community youth center is behind it. it will help the man with rent and his bills. one suspect has been arrested in the incident and police are looking for a second this

morning. new developments with the striking graduate institutes at uc santa cruz. 54 of them have been fired for refusing to turn in grades. the graduate students walked out. they were asking for higher wages. the strike started back december with assistants deci decidi deciding not to turn in grades for the fall. they say they need the bump of pay to offset the high cost of living in the bay area. we wanted to show you this, drew tuma caught this last night. as you know, it's been bone dry in san francisco and much of the bay area. last month capped off the driest february in the city since the civil war era. it's been a long time since we've seen some rain around here. for more on that bone-dry forecast, we turn it over to lisa argen who has a sprinkle, a

chance of rain in the forecast. >> check it out. we're looking at live doppler 7 right now and this system that's working through the sierra nevada, down into southern california, bringing in a few light drops to the north bay. as we look at napa, fairfield, yeah, about one one-hundredths here and it's a mixture of high clouds out there and looking at a mostly cloudy sky. this is about all we're going to see. the sierra nevada has picked up some snow there, a couple of inches and the advisory for the next couple of hours. you heard about 1864. what about 2020? no rain for february. if this dry stretch continues as it did in 1864, they made it to march 11th, 43 days of no rain. so are we going to make it to march 11th? hopefully not. we're looking at the history books here where we should have

about 4 1/2 inches of rain for the month of february. do you remember 1998? that was an el nino here and, boy, did we get the rain. over 14 inches of rain. last year, we had half of that and of course nothing this year. looking at hopefully a little shower activity by friday into saturday. we'll get to that in just a moment. right now it's 45 in redwood city, as well as gilroy. 49 in pacifica. here's our roof camera where it's pretty gray out there and chilly. mid to upper 40s for most. and in the mountains, looking at a little bit of snow here. this all will be winding down and looking at the gusty winds as well. so, we're looking at about 51% of average nfor a snow pack in the sierra. we're partly cloudy today. it's cool. the winds pick up. our wind advisory for the next hour in the upper elevations, then by 4:00 everyone gets

this is "abc7 mornings." >> it's sunday, thanks so much for being here. it's 9:30 right now as you wake up. i'm julian glover. we start this half-hour off with a look at the weekend forecast with lisa argen who is seeing if we can get any of the green to materialize into rain drops. >> a nice surprise, even though it's a little bit of drizzle and mist up to the north bay. we see some returns. you're getting wet around fairfield, napa and highway 12. but you know what, most of us experiencing cloudy skies as we will get on the backside of this system throughout the day bringing windy conditions. it's 47 in oakland. 45 in gilroy. 2 to 5 inches is what is expected throughout the day. we've seen a couple of inches and chains are required on i-80. 47 in santa rosa. look at the heavy cloud cover.

overnight the "new york times" reporting researchers now believe covid-19 has been spreading in washington state for some six weeks. >> we are having increasing cases in the united states and we expect to see increasing cases locally. >> reporter: the cdc saying the man who died was in his late 50s. a hospital patient with underlying health conditions. he had no known travel abroad. >> the covid-19 situation is evolving on a global scale. and in washington, we are starting to see some spread of this virus. >> reporter: just a few miles away from the hospital, health officials warning of a potential outbreak at this nursing care facility after two people tested positive and dozens more are now showing symptoms and being tested. >> we're in the process of investigating this situation. >> reporter: all of this coming along with newly discovered cases in oregon and california who haven't traveled

here's the story. >> reporter: cleaning crews wearing protective gear were disinfecting doorknobs, water fountains and palo alto high school after officials learned friday a parent of two students was possibly exposed to coronavirus. the superintendent said as a precautionary measure, the district took actions and the two students were sent home and will be excluded from attending school until we learn more information. >> concerning? >> absolutely. >> reporter: some people attending saturday sporting events didn't know about the coronavirus scare? >> i teach as well. we're very conscious of that. airborne, things of that sort. and i think we're caught with our pants down because we're not prepared for it. >> i'm more concerned about the older people in the community and people who already have

few showers. let's talk about the wind. it's coming into play throughout the afternoon. it's a cool day. numbers only in the 50s to low 60s. we're at 5:00 and those offshore winds bringing the low relative humidity, winds gusting to 30 miles per hour at the coast. you can see the north bay here getting breezy in the southbound.
