washington state. a nursing home there is now on lockdown. >> meanwhile, this was the scene in many costco stores across the country. huge lines and empty shelves as people stock up on supplies and cleaners. >> there is some encouraging news. stock prices rebounded slightly overnight. a sign that the dow may open higher this morning after suffering big losses last week. abc's ines de la cuetara has more. ines, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, ken and zohreen. at least 74 people have now been diagnosed with coronavirus in the u.s., and researchers believe the infection may have been spreading undetected for weeks. late sunday, officials confirming a second death from coronavirus in the u.s. a man in his late 50s outside al iss but nhad underlying health officials in washington state also confirming two new cases, both men in their 60s, also with underlying health issues, both in critical condition. the cdc now sending a team to

help contain the potential outbreak at a nearby nursing care facility. at least two people testing positive. dozens more being examined. >> i think it's very important that we treat the american people like adults and explain to them that we don't know where this will go. >> reporter: at least 74 americans have the virus. california, washington and oregon all reporting incidents of community spread. illinois, rhode island and new york state confirming new cases. >> we have known that this will happen. >> reporter: a man in his late 40s who recently traveled to italy, france and spain now hospitalized. at least 40 people who had contact with him now told to self-quarantine. >> the message is be careful and be vigilant, but don't panic. close to 3,000 people have died from the infection. the trump administration implementing the highest travel advisory to regions of italy and south korea. >> the president's also directed the state department to work

analysts also question the impact biden's win in south carolina will have. >> a lot of poem have already voted. >> especially in california. >> right, but in a lot of other places too. early voting is pretty much the norm now across the country in terms of it being available, and, you know, a lot of people voted well before they saw that big win. >> tonight's event has been canceled. >> reporter: in minneapolis last night, klobuchar was forced to cancel a rally in her home state after protesters chanting black lives matter took over the stage shouting, demanding she drop out. the wild card tomorrow, billionaire michael bloomberg who is on the ballot for the first time. the former new york mayor has faced criticism for his record on race relations. in alabama, on sunday, some churchgoers turned their backs on him, but bloomberg says he's in the race for the long haul. >> if you don't finish in the top three on super tuesday, is that it for you? >> of course, not. >> you'll keep going?

no word on the fine. and a tragic death in new york city is renewing calls for a ban on horse-drawn carriages in central park. a 12-year-old horse suffered a cardiac emergency. we won't show you the full video, but she collapsed and had to be euthanized. the carriage company says this even happens to healthy horses, but animal rights activists say it shows why carriage rides should be banned. the mayor has ordered an investigation. charges are now being dropped against a man shot by police inside a chicago transit station. he allegedly resisted arrest after he moved between subway cars while the train was moving. he was then shot while trying to run away. the police department says it's concerned about the officers' tactics. the mayor calls the video disturbing. the state and the fbi are now investigating. that man is in critical condition. and a possible corporate coup is under way at twitter. multiple reports say investor elliott management wants to force ceo jack dorsey out of his

the fifth case was confirmed yesterday and it is an adult woman said to have had chronic health conditions. she's currently hospitalized. the sixth and seventh cases are husband and wife, both are in the hospital. the couple recently traveled to egypt where there's been at least two confirmed cases of the virus. the husband is said to have chronic health conditions which worsens the severity of the toll the virus takes on the body. as news broke over the weekend of several new cases of the virus in santa clara county likely through community spread, you can see the crazy crowds at costco. people rushing to stock up on everything from disinfectants to food, they actually ran out of clorox wipes in this costco in san jose. health officials reminding everyone not to panic but to be prepared and have a plan. they're reminding everyone to wash those hands often. disinfect things you touch often as oft
