joe biden who wracked up the delegates last night. he won nine states. senator bernie sanders won three states, it's looking like he will win california after all the votes are counted. amy hollyfield has the results. >> president trump is tweeting about the results saying the democrat establishment came together and crushed bernie sanders again and the fact that elizabeth warren stayed in the race was devastating to bernie. it looks like bernie sanders will win california. it will take some time to officially declare it for him and how many delegates he will win because of california's complicated delegate process. over other than that, the night belonged to joe biden. biden did sweep the south last night including the delegate rich state of texas. he also won senator elizabeth warren's homestate of massachusetts. biden's campaign was considered

dead after losing in iowa, new hampshire and nevada. now he has this surge and he is talking like he will face donald trump. >> you want a nominee that will beat donald trump and also keep nancy pelosi the speaker of the house. win back the united states senate! if that's what you want, join us! >> i tell you with observe lawsuit confidence we're going to win the democratic nomination. >> bernie sanders still sounding confident. he placed a lot of attention on california this time after losing the state in 2016 to hillary clinton. one thing that seems to have hurt him yesterday, young people did not turn out like they did in 2016. especially in the south and in his homestate of vermont. we're waiting to hear who won in maine. biden and sanders are in a tight race there. biden has a slim margin over sanders. 24 delegates are up for grabs in

has the lead here. senator sanders is the purple, joe biden is the green. michael bloomberg is orange, and elizabeth warren with the tan. i will tap some of these. sonoma county here, we have senator bernie sanders leading by a 10.19-point margin there. many marin, joe biden is leading by 1.89-point margin there. scooting over to solano county, joe biden, 5.58-point margin. the contrast costa county, bernie sanders leading by 0.37-point margin here. you can get an idea on how everything shakes out here. senator sanders has about 33% of support across the state. biden trailing behind just under 24%. kumasi? >> thank you.

some people in the bay area and beyond waited a long time to vote. these massive lines show voters snaked around buildings in los angeles last night. abc7 news contributor and chronicle insider phil matier talks about what this voter turnout means. >> we're still waiting to see what the final results are in terms of voter turnout but voter enthusiasm was high and late. people were holding on to their ballots until the last minute, literally. lines going very far at various polling places. so what did we learn? people are very much out there and undecided on a number of issues including who the democratic nominee should be for president. >> you can get more from phil matier and the "san francisco chronicle," his column appears wednesdays and sundays. the candidates now have to focus their energy on the next round of primaries. on tuesday, march 10th, idaho, michigan, mississippi, missouri and washington state will hold their primary elections. north dakota will hold caucuses. the democratic nominee will

66 at 11:00. east bay valleys, 67 at 11:00. mid to upper 70s for the afternoon hours. same thing down in the south bay, 70 sooner around 11:00, near 78 at 3:00 for our warmest temperature. here is jobina with the commute. >> we are following the report of a fire near the freeway in oakland right now. northbound 880 before the 5th avenue off-ramp there. on the northbound side, speeds are down to 14 and 20 miles per hour. for people traveling southbound, about 30 miles per hour. the fire department is on the scene, just got off the phone with chp. it's not clear what's on fire. we'll follow up with the police department on that. see if we can get more details for you. expect delays in that area. there's not a tow truck available for this issue outside the caldecott tunnel, westbound 24, expect one lane to be blocked by a stalled car. happening today, kim

happening now, the louvre in paris is open again after employees worried about catching the coronavirus agreed to come to work. new video shows the line outside the famous museum finally moving. the louvre was closed since sunday with workers concerned about exposure and potential spread of the virus. management is offering more disinfectant gels. workers also have more frequent staff rotations so employees have time to wash their hands. united airlines doesn't want the virus to deter travelers. it's offering to waive change fees for any ticket bookings through the end of the month. this applies to all tickets for all travel dates and destinations. united says if you end up canceling your flight you will get credit that can be applied

to a new ticket with no change fees for up to 12 months after your original ticket was issued. new court documents show the man accused of being the golden state killer would plead guilty if prosecutors promised not to seek the death penalty. 74-year-old joseph deangelo is tied to 12 murders, 45 rapes and more than 100 burglaries across california in the '70s and '80s. victims in the case have received a letter from the public defender asking them if they would like to tell an independent mediator what they think about resolving the case without a trial. two of them tell the times they would be okay with it. happening today, kim kardashian west is heading to the wous agaihite house again. >> she's meeting with president trump to talk about criminal justice reform. she is bringing three women whose prison sentences he recently commuted. during her first visit in 2018, kardashian urged president trump to offer clemency to alice

it's your voice your vote. >> we start this morning with the dramatic super tuesday turnaround for joe biden. >> after his campaign was on the brink of collapse a couple weeks ago, the former vice president had a big night on super tuesday winning states in the east and the south. here in california, senator bernie sanders is leading with more than 30% of the vote. the associated press has called the race for him here. it's unclear how many delegates sanders will get from california because ballots are still being counted. former vice president joe biden in second place with 24% of the vote. these numbers show 78% of precincts reporting. senator sanders won four states on tuesday. along with california he won vermont, colorado and utah. >> joe biden built on his momentum out of south carolina with strong showings in super tuesday states in the south and east. he won alabama, arkansas, massachusetts, minnesota, north carolina, tennessee, texas and virginia. so here's a look at how the

in the bay area, there's two new cases of the virus. julian glover is live for us in san jose. good morning. two latest cases of coronavirus confirmed by santa clara county health officials just yesterday, bringing the total number in the county to 11. but those public health officials they did not share information about the latest infected people, who they are or how they came down with the virus. but they are releasing new guidelines this morning. they're saying that the best available information to keep you and your family safe is also all about knowing who is most at risk. the message is the risk of severe illness increases at age 50 for those who come down with coronavirus, and the age bracket we now know most at risk, according to public health officials, people 80 and older. >> we're recommending that people at higher risk avoid mass gatherings such as parades,

sporting events, and concerts, where large numbers of people are within arm's length of one another. >> the warning is particularly important to the elderly living in senior centers. those groups should hold off on group activity like bingo night. that's the message from the santa clara county department of public health. san jose is opening up their emergency operations center to better keep tabs and manage the new cases that could be coming forward. all of this as the number of confirmed cases in santa clara jumping to 11. for now reporting live in san jose, julian glover, abc7 news. the california primary election was a test of patience for some voters in the south bay. the reasons some people faced these long lines. and check this out.
