there's debris across the roadway and an evidence tow truck has been called out to the area. want to leave you with a live look showing you the bay bridge. from the toll plaza into san francisco, about 11 minutes. >> thank you. now to the latest on coronavirus outbreak this morning. all eyes are on the grand princess cruise ship that is off the coast of san francisco. >> that ship could come to dock sometime today. the people on board are awaiting test results from a lab in richmond. passengers have been told not to leave their rooms until further notice. santa clara announced six new cases yesterday, one of them involves a lockheed martin employee in sunnyvale. the company said they are aware of the possibility of exposure and they're working to keep other employees and visitors safe. stanford university is proceeding with caution. the athletics department is working with the health and safety department to establish guidelines during games where large crowds normally gather. back to the city of san francisco, it says it is working

closely with the coast guard, cdc, the state to prepare for a possible increase in coronavirus patients. >> abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at pier 27 where the grand princess could arrive today. amy? >> at this point, kumasi, the city is saying they don't know what will happen next. they are promising that officials from different agencies are working together to take precautionary steps. here's one example of that now you will see tents set up outside of ucsf medical center here in san francisco. they set them up to give them extra space for triage if there's a surge of patients. does that mean passengers who test positive will come here? city leaders and health officials say they don't have those answers yet. >> ultimately we don't have an answer for exactly where the ship will be docked, whether there are people who are diagnosed or not. we don't have that information at this time.

once we know, a decision will be made. as soon as we know what that decision is, we'll provide that information to the public. >> officials are hoping the test results will be available this morning. until then passengers have been told to stay in their rooms and wait. one passenger told us that people on board are nervous as they're wondering what will happen next. reporting live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. san francisco is dealing with its first two cases of coronavirus. one is a man in his 90s with an underlying medical condition. the other is a woman in her 40s who is in fair condition. she is the parent of a high school student. in response, san francisco unified is closing that school today and canceling activities. >> while it is not our intent to cause undue alarm or disruption to students learning, the district decided to act conservatively and in the best interest of our community members in announcing this

closure. >> now, lowell is one of at least four bay area schools to close because of the virus. the others are menlo, monarch academy, and san jose's action day primary plus. a teacher at action day has tested positive for coronavirus. new this morning, san mateo county's health officer says covid-19 is spreading in the community and that will likely happen for weeks perhaps months. dr. scott morrow advises that all nonessential gatherings are canceled, postponed or done remotely. he said schools should stay open but once closings occur they may be extensive and extended. he says san mateo county does not currently have testing available independently of the state and cdc. in the south bay, children's discovery museum is closed in san jose. an employee may have been exposed to coronavirus. the test results are not back yet but the museum will be closed and thoroughly cleaned over the next few days, it could reopen on tuesday.

google is giving its bay area employees the option to work from home because of the spread of the virus. employees at the zuckerberg initiative in redwood city have been ordered to work from home after a contractor to the organization tested positive for the virus. the oakland diocese is giving pastors the option to decide whether or not to distribute wine during the holy communion to address concerns from priests and worshipers. governor newsom ordered all health insurance companies to waive costs from preventive coronavirus testing. a northern california nurse who may have been infected after volunteering to treat a coronavirus patient has yet to be tested herself. the quarantined nurse met the criteria to be tested for covid-19, but the cdc wouldn't do it. they say she has to wait because priority is being given to severe cases. at a news conference in oakland, representatives from national nurses unite d read her

lori vallow was arrested last month on felony charges of child abandonment in idaho. her children have not been seen in more than five months. police say she has lied about their whereabouts. the last sighting of tylee with her mother was september 8th at yellowstone national park. the fbi released these photos of the family from that day and is asking anyone with more images to send them to investigators. some people are getting coronavirus through what the experts are calling community spread, meaning patients didn't travel to places with confirmed cases and had no known contact with an infected person. so what does that mean >> we don't believe that this spreads far, okay? we're not going to quarantine an entire city unless i have evidence of lots of cases in one area. but it may be everybody in the same house. >> people are to remain at least

a crash. it started around 2:30 this morning. the chp went after a speeding car on northbound 880, that car ended up crashing on eastbound 980 at mcdonald avenue in richmond. two people were taken into custody. >> developing news now on the coronavirus outbreak. 45 tests were sent to a lab in richmond, and once those results come back, that ship could be docked here in san francisco. that white lane is the path it was supposed to take, but as you can see, it's that small dot off the coast. amy hollyfield is just down the street from me at pier 27. >> reporter: good morning. that ship is not far from here. anchored off the coast of san mateo county. those passengers would love to finish the journey, pull in at pier 27 and go home. but that can't happen yet.

it's all going to depend on those testlts. those test samples were taken to richmond. the coast guard took them there yesterday and the chp escorted them to a lab there. 45 crew members and passengers were tested. they either showed symptoms or they were on the first leg of that trip. three people from that leg have tested positive for coronavirus. one of those three died. they wanted to test those people who were with them. we talked with a passenger stuck on the grand princess. we asked how everyone is feeling and how they're holding up. >> we're all worrying about the worst case scenario, that this becomes another ship that is stuck for two weeks before we can get off. people are nervous about the future. >> the grand princess announced this is the last trip for now. they canceled the next cruise to hawaii that was set to leave for

tomorrow. there's no word on where this ship will go or when. it depends on the test results. authorities hope to get those this morning. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> thank you. as san francisco waits to hear when the cruise ship might dock, the city is already dealing with its first two cases of coronavirus. a man in his 90s is in serious condition and a woman in her 40s are in fair condition. health officials don't know how either were exposed to the virus. >> do the basic things. wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. cheap soap is as good as expensive soap. if you don't have availability of a sink or soap, use hand sanitizer. >> ucsf put up specialized medical tents in anticipation of an increase in coronavirus patients.

they could provide additional areas for triage in an emergency situation. good samaritan hospital in hose is preparing for a potential spike in coronavirus cases. temporary tents have been set up outside the emergency room. they are normally used during the height of flu season. >> these tents are 15x20, they allow us to have that six-foot exclusion zone around the patients so we can adequately care for them in a safe manner. >> health officials say these extra measures can slow the spread of the virus. we know now of at least 33 covid-19 cases in the seven bay area counties. you can see them on this map. the largest concentration is santa clara, where there are currently 20. sunnyvale's department of public safety has announced seven officers have been ordered into quarantine. >> there are six new cases in the county bringing the total to 20. the patients include three men and three women, two of them hospitalized. the county is recommending all

large-scale events be canceled. in a statement s.a.p. center said at this time we have not received any information about the coronavirus that would indicate a need to alter any of our operating procedures or reschedule events. sharks fans attending the game last night weren't too concerned. >> you still have to be careful, but to really disrupt especially sharks games? nah, i don't think so. i don't have that big of a concern about it. >> the children's discovery museum in san jose is closed until next tuesday and scheduled for decontamination. an employee reported on wednesday night they were in contact with someone who has covid-19. on the peninsula, the san bruno senior center is closed because of coronavirus concerns. the city says three volunteers with the lunch program were on the grand princess cruise that was connected with three covid-19 cases. one of those volunteers reported mild cold systems, they have gone away, but all three have been asked to self-quarantine.

here are the symptoms of covid-19 from the cdc. fever, cough and shortness of breath. symptoms may appear 2 to 14 days after exposure. concern about the virus may have you asking how you can protect yourself. >> there's simple steps you can take to give yourself the best protection. the epa lists multiple clorox products effective against novel coronavirus. the oakland company's stock is going up as their disinfectants are being sold out across the country. a clorox scientist explains there is some good news about coronavirus. >> a coronavirus is what's called an envelope virus, and that means it has an outer envelope that's composed of proteins and fatty material called a lipid. and it's that outer layer that actually makes it relatively simple to kill with most disinfectants. compared to other viruses that don't have that envelope. >> he says in order to kill the virus on a surface you need to wipe it with the disinfectant

other tech firms are also changing interview procedures. in california, price gouging is illegal during a declared state of emergency. the state's attorney general has issued a price gouging alert. he's explaining the law protects against price gouging on emergecy supplies, medicine, medical supplies, food, drinks, gas, really all essential supplies. >> these price gouging restrictions make it illegal for businesses to raise the prices of most goods and services by more than 10%. anyone who is found guilty of price gouging could face a year in jail and up to $10,000 in fines. oakland's fire chief is leaving the department. chief darin white accepted a new job as chief of the san rafael fire department. white has been with the oakland fire department for 22 years. he officially took over as fire chief in 2017. he led the department through the ghost ship warehouse fire tragedy. white th deputy chief melin d will take over as interim chief.
