. the wait is over. the grand princess cruise ship is scheduled to dock tomorrow morn, but the journey is not over for thousands aboard. >> despite avoid large crowds because of covid-19 warriors fans still make it out to chase center but in smaller numbers. after more than a month rain finally returns and we're tracking more showers on the way. right away that breaking news is about the grand princess cruise ship. passengers were pulled just over ago they will be docking on monday. >> first we heard it might be tomorrow. now we're hearing it might be monday. our media partner the east bay times reports the ship will dock at the terminal on the outer harbor that is no longer in

they were growing weary along with thousands with the lack of information, stuck in their cabins getting their food left at their door and having zero contact with anyone around them. during our call a sign of hope, a surprise from another boat. >> we slowed down to almost half a mile and we got whatever that tug is probably close to us. let me go take a look. >> reporter: earlier in the day a passenger was transported by the u.s. coast guard to the san francisco general hospital. as the growing concern of the virus crippled around the ship vice president pence made this announcement. >> today we reached an agreement with the cruise line industry to further ininstance entrance and exit screening. >> we will sleep well tonight. >> passengers who don't require acute medical help will go to a federal facility within california for testing and isolation.

now for the crew members they will be quarantined and treated aboard that ship. we will of course stay on top of this in the newsroom. >> luce, thank you very much. we're also learning that the northern california man who died this week was likely infected with coronavirus before he boarded the cruise ship on february 11th. the passenger sought medical treatment on the ship saying he'd had symptoms of a respiratory illness for about a week. the coronavirus has an incubation period of 5 to 6 days so officials say it was likely the man was infected prior to boarding. she has stage 4 cancer and is worried that she won't make it home to start chemotherapy on monday. >> they gave me four radiation treatments and pain killers and we'll get started right when you get back on monday or tuesday, and so it's still a worry that i'm going to not get back. i recently lost my dad, and i

just believe he's up there going to fix this whole situation somehow, and i'm going to test negative and get to go home and get some treatment. >> from grand forks, north dakota, is with her husband paul. she was diagnosed with neo endocrine cancer 18 months ago. she underwent chemo and had her ovaries removed but the cancer returned and has spread to her lower back. a test yesterday was confirmed this morning. a passenger had traveled on the cruise ship from february 11th to the 21st. their name and hometown are not being released. health officials are investigating any possible exposure with ol i o ed at t cruise terminal in the port of long beach. a passenger was taken from the ship to the hospital today and will be tested for coronavirus. all other passengers are being held on the ship until results

come in. new at 11:00, san francisco has booned all nonessential group events in the city owned facilities for the next two weeks. that includes city hall, the maus coney center and the civic auditorium. this comes as six more cases of coronavirus have been confirmed positive today. there are now eight confirmed cases in the city but officials say they expect more. >> the virus is circulating in our community. we expect to get more confirmed cases. we have seen that in the state and in our region, and so this is not unexpected. >> the city of san francisco has received a thousand test kits for covid-19. the public health department says they are ordering more and are not worried about running out. >> even with the growing number of coronavirus cases warriors fans still showed up the chase center for tonight's game.

large gatherings. the sharks said their planned weekend games would go on as scheduled. oak grove high school in san jose is undergoing a deep cleaning this weekend because of student pet contact with a family member who has the coronavirus. the student has not exhibited any symptoms but has been quarantined and will be tested. weekend activities in oak grove were either canceled or moved to another site. santa clara county reported eight more cases of coronavirus today for a total of 32 now in the county including a person who lives in gilroy. on thursday gilroy firefighters responded to a call for a person with chest pain. that person taken to kaiser san jose and confirmed to have coronavirus. officials say the firefighters who had contact with that person are symptom-free so far. we'll have much more coronavirus coverage throughout the newscast tonight. you can also go to abc7.com/coronavirus where we have an entire page dedicated to

on is housing. >> state senator scot wiener has introduced a bill to ease zoning restrictions. it would clear the way for non-profit hospitals and faith institutions to build affordable housing units on their property. wiener has tried three times to pass legislation to create more housing in california. >> safety is another part of building a better bay area. a measure that would provide millions of dollars every year is narrowly passing. measure c needs a two thirds majority since it is a tax. currently it's getting just over 68%. the registrar of voters says it could be two weeks until there's a final tally, and we want hear your yis about bidding a better bay area. >> people in san francisco got free tulips today, but festivities were scaled back because of the coronavirus. abc 7 news in union square for

flower bowl day, originally a garden was supposed to be setup so people could pick their own flowers. but this year volunteers handed them out instead. now, despite warnings about avoiding large crowds plenty of people showed up for today's white elephant sale in oakland. the oakland museum womens board holds the event every year. the board says it's the biggest rummage sale in northern california. it also runs tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the east bay, abc 7 news anchor dan ashley rocked the r concert charity concert tonight at the center in walnut creek. >> sounds pretty good. rick springfield headlined the show. dan started the foundation six years ago which raises money for children in need. tonight they expect to raise tens of thousands of dollars that help are children in the community.

from this vantage point and cloud cover tomorrow as well. it's not a totally bright day, but we'll see some peaks of sunshine to finish out the weekend. rainfall totals pretty impressive for this system. san jose had a couple of cells kinds of linger over the south bay. same in oakland, same in the city of san francisco. what was just a weak system, it was nice to see the rain return. we're still well below where we should be this time of year. instead of normal to date ranging anywhere from 35% to 55% of normal. the storm we're tracking next on the seven day is a quick moving system and not a lot of rain, but still it's a nice pattern changehe 30s. 39 in santa rosa, 59 in oakland, 49 in san francisco. and livermore checking in at 48 degrees. overnight tonight it's a mostly cloudy sky. it will be chilly out there.

of low pressure. thaelgts our next storm moving into california the next couple of days. right now it looks like the bulls eye in terms of rainfall is in southern california. so the next 48 hours as you go through monday and tuesday and accumulate that rainfall you can see the hardest hit areas are santa barbara, l.a., palm springs. northern california we're on the fringe of the storms so we'll get a light shower out of that but nothing heavy right now. nonetheless some wet weather in the forecast. accuweather seven day, mostly cloudy tomorrow, a shower chance monday and tuesday with that storm system moving to california. wednesday hold onto the cloud cover, lose our shower chance. a lot of sunshine there, 60s and 7 0z, but we'll track those showers through monday and tuesday. wish we could have more of a soaking rain but we'll take what we can get this time of year. >> eric's still doing the math right ahe on abc 7 news at

that conference, but officials say they were never in close contact with the person who tested positive. the acu says the exposure happened before the conference and the person infected has been quarantined in new jersey. >> more coronavirus testing kits are arriving in california. at least 15 health departments now have them. contra costa county says it has about 300 test kits and offered to help test the passengers on the grand princess. health officials in other parts of the country have expressed concerns about a shortage of the kits. the film festival in san jose will continue through tomorrow but its second week has been postponed. the events will be moved to august. founders say no refunds will at this time. the walt disney family museum is closed through tomorrow and the annual san francisco st. patrick's day

parade set for a week from today has also been called off. salesforce is among the growing number of companies calling for employees to work from home. salesforce say it will continue to pay its vendorrging employees to avoid work gatherings or stay home if they feel sick. today san jose mayor sam lacardo proposed a temporary moratorium for renters who can't pay their rent because of lost wages resulting from the outbreak. the city is looking to provide temporary relief for burdened and unpaid landlords. >> this legislation would not wafbl
