someone who rode a train between chicago and st. louis last week is likely in infected and the family of a missouri patient broke self-quarantine orders. >> meanwhile near seattle, the nursing home at the center of the outbreak finally says it has enough tests for all patients there. >> more companies taking precautions. apple is the latest to urge people to work at home, and more schools and universities on both the east and west coast are closing. >> andrew dymburt is tracking all the overnight developments. andrew, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. each day there seems to be more cases. you know, the virus has spread to nearly every continent since it first broke out in china late last year. the numbers on coronavirus continue to climb. in the u.s. the total infected now topping 500 and lead health and government officials issuing widespread warnings on travel. >> right now not wait until things get worse, say, no large crowds, no long trips and above all don't get on a cruise ship.

>> reporter: off the coast of san francisco, stuck at sea. >> we will arrive at some time on monday. >> reporter: over 2,400 patients on board the "grand princess" cruise ship preparing for port. at least 21 on the ship tested positive for the novel coronavirus. >> we're basically on board a floating petri dish. >> reporter: senator ted cruz and house rep paul gossar are placing themselves into self-quarantine after interacting with a person who since tested positive for coronavirus at cpac. the nursing home affected now says they have enough testing kits for all residents. new york state seeing a spike including one school district in westchester county where a teacher tested positive. the scarsdale school closed until march 18th as a result. states are turning to the federal government for help. many critical of the response. >> the cdc, i believe, was slow to begin with.

they were not ready for this. >> reporter: the president's task force not ruling out the possibility of shutting down a city as other countries like italy have already done. >> anything is possible and that's the reason why we have to be prepared to take whatever action is appropriate. >> reporter: and president trump maintains that the risk to americans is still low and says of his own potential exposure he is not concerned at all. zohreen, trevor. >> andrew dymburt in washington, andrew, thank you. hospitals across the country are preparing for what could be a worst case scenario. in a recent presentation, the american hospital association warned as many as 96 million infections from the new coronavirus are possible with up to 480,000 deaths. in the meantime, with the virus claiming 16 lives at that nursing home near seattle, the former head of the cdc is now calling for all nursing homes across the country to immediately restrict visitors to stop the virus from spreading. meanwhile, some lawmakers are now urging the trump

administration to grant paid sick leave to health care workers and those affected by quarantines caused by the virus. they're also calling for changes to unemployment insurance. officials in new york city have already agreed to provide no interest loans for some small businesses who are affected nationwide. more than 360 people in italy have now died from the coronavirus prompting the government to take extraordinary measures of quarantining about one-quarter of italy's population. here's a map showing the region affected by the travel ban. it's home to nearly ba ithe d before the ne took ef. regi a rui must bthpartstns remi including whether the travel ban can be enforced. and here at home many americansn ashton. t'dely

poible. you're referring to something that we call social distancing and that's an aggressive measure that is taken to help contain an outbreak or slow its spread so we're talking about closing schools, canceling large gatherings, working from home which not everyone can do and very effective in not only slowing the spread but buying us time and also helping to protect the more vulnerable populations. >> other countries like iran, israel and saudi arabia are considering similar quarantines as the virus spreads worldwide. and turning now to the stock market where dow futures were down sharply early this morning, investors are reacting to saudi arabia's decision to slash oil prices which had already been dropping because of the virus outbreak. rkets in asia were down by as much as 6% today and wall street dow futures down by a thousand points overnight. you can expect another volatile day for your 401(k). we turn now to politics and the race for the white her have picked up some big

harris marking biden's ninth endorsement from the once crowded democratic field. meanwhile, president trump over the weekend taking aim at biden. >> we cannot win this re-election. excuse me, we can only win -- >> reporter: retweeting that with biden's words taken out of context. twitter labeling it manipulated media, part of a new effort by the social media company to reduce deceptively edited videos but biden and sanders may have more than just political attacks to compete with on tuesday. growing fears about the coronavirus threaten to deter people from heading to the polls in washington state, one of the biggest states up for grabs for tomorrow. and the campaigns are also responding to the coronavirus. of course, when you think of campaigning, you think of candidates holding babies, selfie lines, but joe biden is no longer going to work the rope lines or shake hands with supporters. two earthquakes have rattled northern california's coast. in recent hours, one was a 5.9 magnitude about 70 miles southwest of eureka. people as far as san francisco and oakland felt the shaking and then another quake, a 4.9

magnitude, was reported in the same area overnight. thankfully no damage reported so far. well, it's time now for a look at your weather for this monday morning. powerful winds uprooted trees and created this land spout in california. the mountains saturday, a land spout forms from the ground up to the base of the clouds. today a new storm system is taking aim at southern california with flash flooding possible from san diego to l.a. parts of the midwest and great lakes will also see showers today. looking at today's high temperatures, 60s in new york and boston. 73 in washington, d.c. 50s in seattle and portland and 77 degrees down in phoenix. well, coming up, get out your wallet because the rising cost of parking your car is going to cost you some. also ahead, harry and meghan wrap up their meghan's message to women this morning.

and we're back now with the aftermath of a plane crash in florida. that plane went down after it apparently had engine trouble. the pilot did manage to avoid buildings in the area before crashing into the tree. everybody is okay. both men aboard and their dog managed to somehow climb out of that wreckage. and new tensions on the korean peninsula this morning. it comes after north korea fired three short-range missiles into the sea of japan, its second launch in as many weeks. kim jong-un has vowed to demonstrate a new strategic weapon hoping to eventually pressure the u.s. to lift economic sanctions. japan today called the launches a grave problem. an urgent search under way s

still trapped in the rubble of a deadly hotel collapse. at least ten people were killed when that building came down. this is in southeast china. dof people have been rescued including this 2-year-old pulled from the debris. that toddler's parents also survived. there is no word on what caused the collapse. and it's the end of an era in london. prince harry and duchess meghan markle will make their final appearance as working members of the royal family. the couple joined the queen for search on sunday in the first public appearance with all three since the duke and duchess announced they're stepping backy meghan celebrated international women's day at a london school offering some advice to students. >> no matter how small you might feel, how low you may feel on the ladder or the totem pole, no matter what color you are, no matter what gender you are, you have a voice, and you certainly have the right to speak up for what is right. >> on saturday night harry and

to the san jose airport. >> thanks. now getting to this developing news this morning. we are expecting to hear about the "grand princess" ucruise ship. >> it's off the coast, which it's been since thursday. the "grand princess" is expected to sail under the golden gate bridge and dock at the outer harbor. we do not know the latest. there are 114 confirmed cases in california. that's according to governor newsom. more than 10,000 are being monitored after being exposed to the virus. the focus will be the "grand princess" where 21 people onboard have tested positive for the virus. let's turn to amy hollyfield with more on this. good morning, amy. >> hi, good morning,

still no sign of the ship. the ship is not here yet. but passengers have been told that they will be arriving in oakland some time today. but they're not going to all get off the ship today. the captain has told everyone that the disembarkment could take two to three days after they dock in oakland. it took officials a while to figure out where they were going to go. they decided embarcadero was too close to a major lookingt alme alameda as an option. >> we looked at alameda as a preferable site, the old naval station and some of the drafting issues created some concerns and that site was knocked off>> thes the best option pointing out it's close to the airport, where
