a $100 billion plus bill to boost testing for the coronavirus and paid leave for workers. in the united states, there are more than 7,700 cases and 140 deaths. but in wuhan, the epicenter of the virus, health officials reported zero new cases for the first time since the outbreak. good evening and thank you for joining us. >> the shelter at home order for solano county was given late today. >> it comes just a day after one of the county's top health officials said it wasn't needed. >> j.r. stone is following the story and is live in downtown fairfield tonight. j.r. >> reporter: yeah, quiet night in fairfield. businesses had been doing what they can to stay afloat. this note says over 65 but the youngsters can help you. however, with this order, that all changes. >> i was surprised that it took them that long to issue the order. >> reporter: vonda is referring to officials in solano county

finally issuing a shelter at home order similar to the shelter in place orders already being used in all other bay area counties. >> i don't know how i feel about that, like staying home all day long. i'm sure we could still go out and to the parks and stuff. >> reporter: solano county's health officer said tuesday that a shelter in place was not needed. >> and the problem is that people are overreading the orders. they're overreacting. >> reporter: a day later, the county issued a shelter at home order. the shelter at home order allows people to go outside and take walks but has the same type of business and travel restrictions as a shelter in place. >> i think the low count of people affected by it in county. >> i think the timing is right for now. it's important we fall in line with the other counties. >> reporter: in vallejo one

closure sign after the next could be seen in store front windows. the mayor says this is serious and all of us need to listen. >> the reality is this is reality. this is a pandemic. >> reporter: and the mayor of vallejo even going so far as telling me that before this order was put in place a lot of his constituents were very concerned over the fact or people possibly coming from other communities to their community to go to businesses. certainly that will not be the case with these businesses now being closed. live in fairfield, j.r. stone, abc 7 news. >> j.r., thank you. zblnkts a sixth person died of the virus in santa clara county. that word today from health officials there. the county now has 175 cases we know of. that's up 20 from yesterday. san mateo reports 14 more since tuesday. 8 new cases reported in san francisco which now has 51 confirmed infections. napa is still the only county

with no reported cases. >> the abc 7 news iteam has confirmed three residents oof a san mateo county nursing home have tested positive for coronavirus and have been transferred to the hospital. dan noyes has this exclusive report. >> reporter: san mateo county health confirms to the iteam that is investigating how the coronavirus infected three residents. the nursing home is closed to visitors and families. >> the families are freaking out and also because they can't see their loved ones. they can't see them physically at all and we don't know when we will. >> reporter: both of julie's parents are residents. her father is in the hospital. she happened to take her mother home for dinner sunday. she would like both to be tested for coronavirus. but atria and the county say they won't give tests unless the patient shows symptoms. >> i'm not happy about it but i don't know what i can do about it. >> reporter: why would it help you to have your mom tested? >> so i know she doesn't have it

for her sake and myself and my partner's sake and my son. >> reporter: even though i emailed and called, atria has nt responded. the residents who have coronavirus went to the hospital this past thursday, friday, and sunday. the remaining residents are restricted to their apartments and meals are being delivered to them. >> in a crisis like this, knowledge is power. so, our data team has come up with an important tool for you. you can search the safety record on every single nursing home across the country and of course right here in the bay area. the database shows the number of infection deficiencies found by state inspectors from 2016 through january of this year. amberwood gardens in san jose had the most deficiencies, five. they had the worst grade, 1 out of 5 based on ai wide range of factors including health inspections, quality measures, and staffing levels. >> i'm working on a story and i'm about to leave.

i'm working from home. dan noyes. >> they sent a statement revealing that three more residents from the facility are also at the hospital awaiting covid-19 test results. the company adds the health and well being of atria residents and employees is our first priority. you can read the entire statement at our website. several new headlines. cal tran has learned that an employee at its oakland office tested positive for covid-19. >> kaiser permanente is limiting visitors and the cdc live streaming funerals. offices do remain office. >> j.p. morgan chase is temporarily closing branches in the bay area. >> as many workers in the bay area, maybe you hunker down to work from home. cyber security experts warn that hackers are stepping up attacks.

amanda dell castillo is live in san jose. >> yeah, dan, cyber security experts say hackers capitalize on two things, extremes of the human nature. we're talking about greed and fear. there's no denying covid-19 has caused plenty of panic. the covid-19 pandemic is changing the way we work, bringing with it a if you had set of cyber security challenges. so, we turned to experts to learn who is most at risk. >> everybody. it's just a level and degree of how hard the bad actors or the hacker's going to try. >> but the professor assures there are ways to keep your information safe and your connection secure while sheltering in place. those forced to work from home shared their set up. this woman works in tech. >> for me it's just been connecting my computer to my home desk so i could have another monitor. >> other companies rely on a vpn. it's a secure pipeline between an employee and work.

you want to steer clear of public unsecured wifi. configuring your firewall, sticking to company equipment, and visiting only certain domains are key. so far .8%, at least 93, were found to be malicious. 2,200 others found to be suspicious. >> the famous website for john hopkins university, everybody is using it to track the cases. there are so many copies of that website and they are malicious. >> pandemic or not, he says tech >> we have to be careful about many, many things with had we are now completely virtual. >> cyber criminals are also targeting cell phone apps. you'll want to be weary of any app promising real time tracking of covid-19. in some cases the app locks you out of your phone and demands

the stress of coronavirus is impacting us like we never felt before. that has many in the bay area doing small acts of kindness to help one another. lauren martinez joins us live from san francisco with what people are doing during this difficult time. lauren. >> reporter: city hall is lit up in italy's colors. mayor london breed says we are united in this common cause. right now san franciscans are showing they want to help one another, they want to stay connected to their neighbors. and the main message tonight is we're in this together. >> we want to be able to do something. >> reporter: diane is handing out fliers in san francisco's sunset district. she's part of a neighborhood help group that's offering to get groceries or pick up medications for the elderly or unable. >> it's also a good opportunity for me to know them, for me to

reach out to them, and for all of us to help each other so that we can get through this. >> reporter: the owner posted on the app next door and offered people around the neighborhood rolls of toilet paper or eggs he picked up at a warehouse. >> as arestaurant we still have access to these supplies. just a little gesture that shows that we're still connected. >> reporter: volunteers are delivering groceries to those who are concerned about shopping in public. >> we don't know how long this is going to last. i'm not a doctor. i don't have a cure. but i can at least help to deliver groceries. >> it's just a crazy time and we all need to do what we can to help each other out. >> in west port, neighbors can now connect with neighbors. >> it's part of the neighborhood empowerment network and they put on the call to put on the unity lights. >> put it in their front window, a symbol that you're not alone in a time of social

showing wet weather and one last stop around mount hamilton we are seeing the snow/rain mix. as we check out the view, the sierra has seen snow and it's still snowing. 47% of average. from our exploratorium camera, clouds stacked up. spotty tomorrow for the arrival of spring and we will get a chance to dry out friday and saturday. here's the break. i know some of you are looking for this break, an opportunity to just get outside and take a walk. there are a couple of low pressure systems that will bring us more much-needed rain but we do have a break coming for friday and saturday. isolated shower or two not out of the question. 9:00 a.m. still shower, in the afternoon activities picks up especially for the southern end of the viewing area. then you will notice that friday there's a lot more sun o there. temperatures right now, they're falling in the 40s, 50s as you take a look at the morning lows they'll be in the 30s and 40s.
