upper 50s. we'll get one completely dry day in this weekend before more rain is on the way. reggie? >> all right, thank you so much. governor newsom made an extraordinary move last night when he told all beds for coronavirus hospitals. jobina has more on that. >> california's fight against the coronavirus is keeping seton medical center in daly city open. the hospital recently made headlines about its imminent closure but now governor newsom says it will undergo a multimillion dollar project to get ready for patients. 177 hospital beds will be designated, excuse me, for covid-19 patients at seton. the state is also planning to transform dorms to house patients. the governor is asking the federal government to ready field hospitals and bring a navy hospital ship to los angeles. if nothing

glover live at the hayward executive airport. julian? >> good morning, reggie. a lot of talk about the availability of these coronavirus testing kits and now we're getting a look at how those kits after people have been tested make their way to testing centers. those people possibly infected waiting to know if they tested positive for the coronavirus and we're learning it is a very urgent process. this cessna plane you're looking at right here flies out of hayward at midnight each night at full capacity. take a look at the green bag. 50 of them on each plane with examples from northern california patients and anxious to know if they tested positive for coronavirus. the swabs are flown to labs in l.a. where they're analyzed. we caught up with the pilot kevin perry who said there is no time to spare. >> all these test kits are all under a time constraint, you know. if they sit here too long, they could go bad and then they would have to be retested. from engine start, i'm out of here in five minutes. >> the flight to l.a. takes the

dangers with every 911 call they get. >> working 16-hour days and we've gone through now it will be six months of personal protective equipment in just seven days. >> reporter: personal protective equipment or ppe is running low as more patients become critically ill from the coronavirus. some life-long medics already saying they have used more masks in one day than throughout their entire career. >> this is what our firefighters, emts normally wear on the street when they respond to an emergency call and this provides them with ample protection from sneeze or a cough. they have an n-95 mask and gown and gloves. >> reporter: but the rate of exposure among first responders is not sustainable. with entire states facing medical emergencies and multiple crew members policiy on >> ione of our firefighters gets sick or gets exposed or if we bring someone in that exposes our crews, then that limits the number of firefighters available to respond.

we have got that little fog around novato. mid to upper 30s and cooler spots in the low to north bay. in fact, here's a look at our roof camera. you can see like two cameras out there right now. essentials coming into work. all right, if you're restless, exercising, going to be out and about, it's going to be pretty good today with milder temperatures and a smaller chance of shower than yesterday. sty in the 30s through 7:00 and 9:00 in the 40s and we notice we start with more sunshine than yesterday. 55 at 11:00 and low to mid-60s for the afternoon hours. in the farther south you are towards fremont and newark, that's where you can get a stray shower as we hit the low 60s. we're in the 40s through 9:00 and we'll be in the upper 50s as you head through lunch and about 60 at 3:00 and notice also increasing clouds and our temperature will drop down to 56 degrees as we head into the 7:00

it is 5: 13. if you're just joining us. seven things to know. number one, governor gavin newsom ordered the entire state of california to stay at home. he said if nothing is done, coronavirus will impact 56% of californians in the next eight weeks. that is worse-case scenario. that would overwhelm the state's health care system. governor newsom announced the state would release hospital beds and one facility is seton medical center in daly city. 177 hospital beds will be donated to covid-19 patients there. sam ricardo and other city

officials will update on the importance of staying home. how people can report businesses that are not complying with the shelter in place order. more people are testing positive at a nursing home on the peninsula. five people at atria burlingame have been taken to the hospital. in the east bay, remarkable effort to make sure more californians are getting the coronavirus test results they need. this is at the hayward executive airport where this local pilot has been heading to southern california with a plane packed with tests that now need to be analyzed. and number six, let's talk about the weather. we're almost there as far as getting temperatures back to own into the 50s with more rain next week. and number seven. b.a.r.t. is making scheduling changes due to low ridership. the new week day schedule starts monday and the new weekend schedule starts a week from saturday. a new report claims the white house was warned in

october about a crisis like this one. the report also warned about federal governments lack of readiness to deal with a pandemic. abc reporter has more on that report. >> reporter: this morning a report obtained by "new york times" reveals the department of health and human services knew months about severe inadequacies in america's response plan. it is documented october 2019 and how underfunded, underprepared and uncoordinated the government was for a new virus like covid-19. the simulation of a pandemic carried out was called crimson contagion, specifically called attention to the skarsty of medical supplies. the u.s. lacks domestic manufacturing capacity for the production of sufficient qualities of personal protective noting they are difficult to restock. >> after the h1n1 pandemic, we did clear calculations and realized we would need to buy

billions of masks. >> reporter: dr. tom freeden who was the head of the cdc until 2017 said they were aware of problems. the agency warned the government several times since 2010. this report in october wasn't the only recent warning. the director of national intelligence sent a warning about u.s. vulnerability in both 2018 and 2019. this comes as senator richard bird, chairman of the intelligence committee comes under fire for downplaying the coronavirus despite the stark warning from friends nearly two weeks before the u.s. started taking steps to contain the outbreak. >> it is much more aggressive in its transmission than anything that we have seen in recent history. it is probably more akin to the 1918 pandemic. >> reporter: abc news, new york. despite the coronavirus pandemic, thousands of soon to be doctors will be celebrating today. it's match day. the day when four-year medical students find out where they're going from residency. this is video from a previous

match day. medical schools usually hold events like this and every student across the country opens an envelope with the results at the exact same time. this year, as you can imagine, it is going to be a little different. medical schools have canceled these ceremonies because of social distancing. all of the fshz physicians wil their match online at 9:00. >> congratulations to them. now they need to get to work because we need them. gas prices are dropping because of the coronavirus impact on the economy. oil prices fell yesterday to their lowest level since 2002. so, look at this. a gas station in kentucky set prices at 99 cents a gallon. gas buddy said on facebook it confirmed the price with the gas station, that is real. here in the bay area, prices are low, but they're not that low. gas buddy says the lowest price in the bay area was at go gas food in oakland and the price there is $2.59 per gallon. >> i'll be keeping an eye. my gas station dropped 6 cents

temperatures in the upper 30s to mid-40s even an upper 40 in san francisco. 48 for the mild spot. here we are at 7:00 in the morning with future radar and see green dots down around the south bay late this afternoon when we get the maximum heating and instability of the day. sun sets at about 7:22. we lose that and we lose all the chances of wet weather. wake up tomorrow morning and mostly clear and then by the afternoon hours, it's that same area that could have one or two showers tomorrow and then it's sunday afternoon when we start to see the wet weather roll in and that's when we'll have our best chance of rain, steadier rain. it will turn more showery as we head to monday, tuesday and wednesday. 0.01 or 0.02 out of the isolated showers in the south bay. accuweather seven-day forecast. try to reach 70 tomorrow. it will be really nice to get outside and social distance, but at least enjoy that warm weather. we're still pretty mild sunday with increasing clouds and then you can see the temperatures slowly taper back into the 50s

looks like our east bay camera is out. let me see if i can find a different one. a look from emeryville. what i want to talk to you about is not the folkstri s driving a right now, but the pollen. remember if you have allergies, take that precaution. also, let's take a look at how much rain will fall at least according to the european model starting with sunday when the rain rolls in and the showers and potential thunderstorms as we head through monday, tuesday and wednesday. and because these lows are going to be a little bit more south of us than hitting us directly, the south bay gets the most amount

of rain. you can see anywhere in green, that's more than an inch and it tapers to about a quarter of an inch. some of our lower elevations up in the north bay. reggie? many of us are using disinfecting wipes and paper towels and remember throw those in the trash and not down the toilet. there is concern that all the similar products could end up clogging sewers and creating big headaches for public works crews. the state water resources control board and other public agencies are issuing that reminder. even ones that say they are flushable will clog sewers clog. walmart promises to give cash bonuses to thank for all their hard work. each full-time employee will receive 300 bucks. part-time workers will each get $150. the money will be paid out next month around april 2nd. walmart also has plans to hire

and 101 comes together. the thickest fog and visibility as low as half a mile right now. that is about the hottest spot we got for fog as you look at live doppler 7 there. in fact, here is a look and how clear it is and dress warmer, mid-30s to mid-40s. upper 50s at noon with a lot more sunshine than yesterday. clouds develop this afternoon as we get the heating of the day and push to mid-50s at the coast and isolated shower possibly mainly in the south bay. let's talk about what's going on with the news. here's reggie. this morning the shelter in place order already in effect in the bay area in los angeles county and now extends over the entire state and its 40 million residents. as you know, governor gavin newsom issued that order and jobina at the live desk with more. >> local officials are very happy about this decision. this helps pump some money into seton medical center to keep it

operating and create some space for victims of the coronavirus. governor gavin newsom will use response funds from the state budget to secure the daly city hospital. >> all of us are coming to appreciate our teachers. we're all coming to appreciate each other, i think, a little bit more. we don't see this through the lens of rural urban and we don't see it through the lens of republican and democrat. i think we're all human beings deeply capable of loving one another. >> officials say the state will lease 177 beds, that's almost half the beds in this hospital. they will dedicate certain floors to the coronavirus patients. the community had been very worried about where people would go if the hospital closed, especially as this pandemic hits. so, there is some relief that the state is using seton. they will still have to move in medical equipment and train staff. no word yet on when the state will be up and running here. i'll send it back to you guys in the studio. >> thank you, jobina.

now, we're taking a look at the cases in the bay area by county. now 483 cases. marin county reported ten new confirmed cases last night. that is the largest single day increase since the first case was reported there on march 4th. santa clara county continues to report new cases. 14 in the last day bringing their total to 189. six people have died in that county. san francisco announced 19 new cases bringing the total to 70. the number of confirmed cases has risen to five at the atria game facility. all five are in the hospital and the facility is closed to the public. people who live there, they're staying in their rooms. county health officials and the cdc visited the home to launch an investigation. in san francisco, officials are working to find safe places to house people who are experiencing homelessness amid this pandemic. the city's department of human service is working to rent 3,500 hotel rooms in the next few

weeks. the agency moved four people who were experiencing homelessness who tested positive into hotels where they can be isolated from others. >> this will be a very common occurrence. we don't want people who do not need to be hospitalized to be there simply because they can't isolate. >> city leaders could also lease more hotel rooms to house first responders andedical w educe thr risk of>>in touth to answering calls for help risking exposure to san jose pce is recovering after testing positive for covid-19. he w rent gathering with a group of other reserve officers. all of them are now self-isolating for several more days. san jose's police chief says new policies will protect officers and their families from the virus. >> we're hoping that the steps weave are e've taken will help any further exposure.

>> san jose firefighter is now recovering at home after being treated for coronavirus in the icu. ten others also tested positive. those fires report having mild to moderate symptoms. researchers in labs at ucsf mission bay campus have been working around the clock to identify which human cells covid-19 invades and hijacks in order to survive and spread. it is estimated that there are 30 trillion cells in a human body. the focus is to pinpoint and and mapping that researchers will identify existing drugs that the potential to interrupt that process. >> we as of last week sent out a number of drugs. i think ten drugs so far and they are testing them in the lab as we speak. >> results here are being shared with labs in new york and paris. some of the existing drugs being tested are fda approved to treat ebola and malaria. while u.s. leaders are rushing to find a cure for the

virus and the economy, hospitals are quickly running out of supplies. alex presha has more on the dire situation from washington. >> reporter: in new york city a cry from help as mayor de blasio warns they have two to three weeks before supplies run out at hospitals. >> we have been pleading for weeks for the federal government to step in. a point in the first week or second week of april when they're literally going to run out of things they need to save lives. >> the federal government is not supposed to be out there buying vast amounts of items and then shipping. you know, we're not a shipping clerk. the states are supposed to get them. >> reporter: president trump pushing back thursday facing criticism for not using the private sector to produce criticcri critical equipment. >> you enabled, i guess is probably the best way to put it, the defense production pack yesterday but didn't pull the trigger on it. >> we hope we are not going to need that. >> reporter: senate republicans and the white house using their plan to boost the economy which includes checks sent directly to americans. if you make $75,000 or less

park in hayward is still performing funerals and burials and only ten people can attend. because of that, they're taking steps so that loved ones can still participate in the morning process. >> every single family we're serving, we're offering live webcasting at no cost for their funeral service. so that though ten people can only be in the chapel, anybody else in the world, anybody else in the country can watch that funeral service and be present from home. >> that's terrible. can you try to imagine going to a funeral and practicing social distancing. >> i understand why they have to do this, but that hurts. >> staffers are still meeting with families mostly over the phone. people can also take a virtual tour of the facility on the cemetery's website. now to a story that you will only see on 7. just before one neighborhood restaurant in the north bay had to close, a customer left a $2,000 tip. abc 7 news reporter lauren martinez shows us how his generosity made a big impact. >> even though it's only been a couple days, i feel so lost.

japanese leaders are planning to have the summer olympics go on as scheduled in july. video of the olympic flame arriving last night. the flame is scheduled to begin a relay through japan next week, but there have been calls both within japan and from around the world to postpone or even just call off the games due to coronavirus. more nba players have tested positive for coronavirus. the list now includes marcus smart of the celtics and two unidentified lakers players and then three players from the 76ers. the warriors played the sixers 13 days ago on march 7th and doctors say the incubation period for the virus is 14 days. so far we're told no warriors have shown symptoms. steph and ayesha curry launched a fund-raiser to make sure that no child or parent goes hungry. a nationwide naetwork of food
