coronavirus. the federal government is sending the national guard here in california, as well as new york and washington state. here's abc 7 news reporter. >> reporter: overnight, president trump announcing the national guard will be deployed to the three states hit the hardest by the coronavirus outbreak, new york, california and washington state. >> the federal government has deployed hundreds of tons of supplies from our national stockpile to locations with the greatest need. >> reporter: president also revealing makeshift hospitals will be built in those states to accommodate the growing number of cases. four in the new york area providing another 1,000 beds plus eight in california and four in washington state. and the administration promising it will send hospitals respirators and personal protective gear such as masks and gowns. >> so far delivered to new york and this is the 19th we had, the n95 respirators >> reporter: on capitol hill the

first senator testing positive. kentucky senator rand paul. mitt romney having to go into quarantine after recently coming into contact with paul. this as negotiations over a $2 trillion stimulus bill to help the economy recover from the outbreak are hitting a road block. democrats say the two sides are still far apart taking issue with key elements of the bill, including a $500 billion relief fund for corporations without any protections for workers. >> and what it has is, for instance, a giant, giant corporate bailout fund with no accountability. >> reporter: senate majority leader mitch mcconnell insists the bill is moving forward. >> we're fiddling here. fiddling with the emotions of the american people. fiddling with the markets. >> reporter: the senate plans to vote on that bill today, but with at least five senators now in isolation, there are growing calls for lawmakers to vote on that bill remotely.

abc news, washington. in just a few hours, the city of hayward will open its own covid-19 testing site. fire station 7 and the tests will be free. amy hollyfield joins us live with more on this. amy? >> look at this set up, kumasi. located right across the street from the fire department. they have tents set up here where they will be screening people. they want you to know, they only have 350 tests a day and they need everyone to use their best judgment. if you don't have symptoms, you shouldn't come here. the tents set up on the lawn and they will take your temperature and check for symptoms. this is happening at hayward fire station number seven on huntwood avenue. it opens at 9:00 this morning. and it's not just limited to hayward residents, although, again, they only have so many tests. >> at this point we are not turning away anyone until we run out of testing kits, obviously.

but at this point there is not enough public testing site in alameda county until we're able to get other cities up and operational, we will not turn folks away if they are experiencing symptoms. >> the city of hayward is doing this to help ease the burden for hospitals and they are able to do this because they're partnering with a lab in menlow park. they bought the tests from the private lab. one final note, don't be afraid to come here because we are here. we are not here to take pictures of anyone who shows up here or interview them and there is a federal law in place to make sure of that. we are just here to let you know this is here and available and pushing out any information that officials need to get out to the public. just know that the key points today are only come here if you have symptoms. and this is open from 9:00 to

6:00. live in hayward, amy hollyfield. as coronavirus cases continue to increase in the bay area, so does the need for medical supplies. major hospitals say they're in need and asking for donations. j.r. stone has more. >> reporter: a garage full of masks, gloves and hand sanitizers being donated to bay area hospitals by bella nails in san mateo. >> one of my long-time client test me and asked if there is any way i could help. >> reporter: and vivian did just that by working with her suppliers to donate 42,000 gloves and more than 1,300 masks. this as coronavirus cases continue to rise and bay area hospitals are put to the test. >> it's challenginchallenging, honest with you because of the market and the amount of supply availabilities. >> reporter: medical gowns and swabs are available and those along with stanford are asking for unused n95 and surgical

masks and unopened packages of gloves and unused protective goggles and sanitizer. >> that's where a lot of the ppe manufacturing has been. when those started shutting down, our suppliers started getting impacted. > reporter: students at the front line sunday when we spoke with them, they had already received more than 8,000 donated items. >> we're getting surgical masks and n95 mask that people bought for the wildfires and also getting a lot of gloves, goggles and face shields. >> there's a lot of friends and family on social media who have reached out who are willing to help fund the cost for this. because, obviously, it takes a whole village. >> reporter: today ucsf is opening three different locations for donations. one of their locations in the mission zion and the third in oakland at the

children's hospital. in san francisco, j.r. stone, abc 7 news. now an update to a story that we've been covering for more than a week now. the wife of an abc 7 news employee has tested positive for covid-19. she and her husband have been self-quarantining for a week now and will continue to do for another week. gomez is feeling much better and her husband never had any symptoms. another update on their family tonight on abc 7. the race to find a treatment for coronavirus is happening right here in the bay area. they're on a mission to break down the virus and identify what proteins it interacts with. >> there is a lot of effort out there trying to develop drupgs to target the virus, which is great. we're taking a different approach. >> we're looking in step by step. we're starting at the exact protein, but we're branching out and expanding that list to see what we have that could sort of

cordon off the virus. >> researchers have found about 50 drugs that are already fda approved that interact with the same protein as the virus and they're looking for more. safeway is putting upplexy glass partitions at check stands. the company calls them sneeze guards. all in an effort to protect store employees with grocery stores remaining open because they are essential businesses. this picture is from the safeway on bird avenue in san jose. b.a.r.t. is reducing its schedule today due to a huge decline in ridership. from 5:00 in the morning until weekend service will be reduced until 8:00 in the morning to 9:00 at night starting one in tn no later than 8:45 to catch that last train. seven bay area bridges are no longer accepting cash tolls.

you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. let's take a look. we have some snow in the mountains around l.a. and san diego and we have some also in the spine of the sierras as we try to get that miracle march to lift that snow average up. in fact, more snow in yosemite and slight chance in tahoe with temperatures in the low to upper 40s and scattered showers across the rest of the state with 50s along the coast and 58 in monterey to mid-60s around san diego and los angeles and same thing in the central valley. seven-day forecast for tahoe and we have our best chance of some moderate snow tuesday and then light snow wednesday, thursday and then nothing for the weekend. > all right, thanks, mike. the mayor of los angeles criticized the city's residents for crowding beaches, boardwalks and parks and violating social distancing rules. look at this. this was in malibu over the

weekend. you could see huge crowds. they were swarming the coast. a lot of people joined in on contact volleyball and basketball games. people there want law enforcement to come in and break up the crowds. >>ets wrong. look at florida and texas and some other states. the governor of florida was oblivious to what was going on. >> last night mayor garcetti tweeted sports and recreation at city parks are closing because too many people pack these places over the weekend. malibu and santa monica also closed its beach parking lots. the stock market could take another hit today. futures dropped 5% last night after an economic stimulus package stalled in congress. 5% is the maximum drop allowed overnigh mn wall street opens for business in about two hours and, of course, we'll keep you updated as we watch that. ucsf is getting help tweeting that the sales force

community delivered 9,000 masks to the hospital and now it's working to deliver another 5 million masks this week along with other critical, personal protective equipment. palo alto based tesla donated masks to help in the coronavirus pandemic. the doctor that received them said it took less than 24 hours from the discussion about sending them. ceo elon musk says tesla will distribute 1,200 ventilators this week. in a tweet musk explained that getting them delivered, installed and operating is the hard part. some businesses are getting pretty creative when it comes to social distancing. look at this video. this is a restaurant in alabama. the owner is delivering checks to customers with a remote controlled car. part of it, of course, meant to provide a little levity during these trying times but the people you see are the owner and his mom. they emphasize that they both

here's the low that brought us the warm weather where it did rain and the thunderstorms where it did with some small hail. that is pushing away, being shoved out of the way by this pretty sharp cold front that will roll through later on during the afternoon and evening hours and that will kick up a better chance of some showers then than what we're dealing with this morning. future radar 7:00 and you can see the varying of the clouds and a few showers there as we head into the afternoon and evening hours and then with that unstable air behind the cold front, you can see more showers tomorrow morning. maybe a moderate downpour and look at that. you saw some yellows in there. that means we could have some heavier showers during the day tomorrow and that will continue at least through wednesday when we have a chance of some thunderstorms. so, the rainfall amounts, watch how scattered and light they are today. less than 0.03 that is up until about midnight and tomorrow we have a better chance and it is going to vary. some of us will get some showers and some of us won't.
