if you are elderly, you're meeting the criteria there. however, if you do not have symptoms, you probably will not get tested. >> you won't. >> elderly plus a fever, plus shortness of breath, cough. >> the symptoms are at the top of the line right now. >> yeah, exactly. >> so, on monday what happened was they were very conservative with their tests and they only allowed people with a fever to get one. that turned out to be too picky and they didn't give as many tests as they had so tuesday and wednesday they loosened the restrictions and that went too far and now they have too many tests. now they're looking for the happy medium. now they're allowing the elderly and the homeless to get a test and now they must have symptoms. if you traveled to europe, you also must have symptoms. that's the key, they really want to see that you have symptoms for the virus before they give you the test. if you have questions, they have set up a help line. i got that number here, but if you don't have a pen right now with you, i tweeted it out and

infected. where are those people? >> he says south korea has done more tests in a day than the u.s. has done in total. the number of covid-19 cases in the bay area has nearly doubled this week as more and more people get tested. on monday there were 789 cases and as of this morning, there are 1,456 confirmed cases. and that's 248 more cases than we had at this time yesterday. so far 32 people have died and santa clara county has the most cases at 542. we're also tracking the number of cases for our viewers in mendocino and lake county. mendocino has two and lake still has none. a patient at laguna has tested positive. the hospital has been on lockdown on wednesday after six have tested positive.

they were all serving time for nonviolent offenses. an alameda county judge ordered the release of eight inmates and south korean boy band has postponed its north american tour and that includes their april concert at levi stadium in santa clara. developing news this morning as the u.s. struggles to deal with a surge in covid-19 cases. the house will take a final vote today on the $2 trillion stimulus package to help people who are hurting financially during the pandemic. ines. de la cuetara has more on the spread. >> reporter: this morning 5,000 u.s. sailors are on lockdown as it spreads through one of america's largest warships. . >> we are in the process of testing 100% of that ship. >> reporter: at least two dozen crewmen aboard the "uss roosevelt" tested positive. >> the danger is the whole ship is infected and the ship is not

remain closed to the public until further announcement. after the deadline to get the real i.d. was extected tseea i.d.s. kumasi. >> thank you. b.a.r.t.'s ridership is down 92% from average which translates to a loss of nearly $18 million so far this month. b.a.r.t. says the federal stimulus plan will provide $1.3 billion to the metropolitan transportation commission. it will divide the money among distributers. shut down light rail to the shelter in place and loss in ridership. this will affect the j, k, l, m, n lines and street buses will take their place. >> the route won't change. you will still be able to be picked up where you are normally picked up on the surface. the only changes if you board or exit at one of our muni metro

in fact, my seven-day forecast for tahoe is going to kind of mirror ours. a little wintry over the weekend and then temperatures will be above average next week. we'll take a look at that seven-day forecast for where you live, coming up next. thanks, mike. new developments on an attack on a runner in the south bay. we confirmed that communications hill is now going to be closed to the public. abc 7 news viewer shared these photos showing the pass that are closed off now. the city tells thus closure is to protect the health and safety of the public and also because of overcrowding. the decision comes just two days after we brought you thery about a runner who said she was attacked there just because she asked other people to social distance. you can see that story on our website, abc7news.com. thieves targeted a montara restaurant that is closed because of the bay area shelter in place order. now, these are the surveillance images that we want to show you of the break in.

in the morning and then scattered showers in the afternoon hours. the rain sunday i think will be a little less than the rain monday. here we are and the total accumulation is looking pretty healthy anywhere from a third of an inch to possibly an inch in the santa cruz mountains. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. one for saturday and sunday. maybe a little bit milder sunday and low 60s when you can find drier pockets to head outside and get fresh air. look at monday, tuesday, wednesday and temperatures from mid-60s to 70s. spring warmth and sunshine is back. shut in the by rain tomorrow more so than sunday. hope you have a great weekend. to stop leaving donations at their area locations in the bay area. nonprofit is closed, but people are still leaving piles of items in front of its stores int.ndy this location. that is a lot of stuff, people.

. >> expect to see lots of shots of people maybe inside over the weekend because of the wet weather. so, let's take a look at the drought. the latest data that came out yesterday about an hour after this time. so, i wanted to go back and revisit it and the thing you'll notice is the moderate drought has spread across more of the bay area. only the southern part of santa clara valley has not jumped into that, but you probably will. and you can see the moderate drought is starting to spread moe across the states. now, almost half the state under a moderate drought. we'll get some rain this weekend but next week the rebound begins with upper 50s and mid-60s monday. tuesday look at those temperatures. the 70s spreading inland and mid to upper 60s around the bay and
