away from the accuweather forecast. want to get you over to meteorologist mike nicco who is working from home today. good morning, mike. >> good morning, julian. nice to see you. nice to see you, kumasi. freezing temperatures. we talked about this yesterday that the national weather service would likely issue another frost advisory and freeze warning. that's exactly what you're protected. not quite as cold as it was yesterday, but we do have freezing temperatures in calistoga and your neighborhood could be cooler than that. so, remember that. as we head forward throughout the day. you can see we start with a little bit of sunshine with increasing high clouds and a little bit of a breeze. keep our temperatures below average, once again, but at least we are dry for sure. no random pop-up thunderstorms and no soaking rains that are possible. enjoy the dry weather while we have it. we'll talk more about that weekend coming up next. >> thank you, mike.

stay at home or at least stay local. happening now, parking lots to a number of parks around the city are closed to cut down on crowds. >> live with how this might affect your plans to get out of the house this weekend. good morning. >> people who show up to state parks by car will see the parking lots are closed. you can see the entrance has been closed as of midnight. all parking lots at state parks are closed as this new wave of parking closures is to prevent what happened last weekend when huge crowds came out to state parks. it's okay to go out for a run or biking or hiking, but encouraging to do those tivities closer tlo rk ls a pedn and bicycle access. here in san francisco parking lots that are affected are at

ford fundson and ocean beach. last weekend many people reported seeing big groups at parks and beaches, some upwards of 30 to 40 people having picnics, for example, not following social protocol distancing. these new parking lot closures don't affect san francisco but state parks throughout the bay area. reporting live, ansar the house to vote on a $2 trillion stimulus package. jobina fortson at the live desk with more on what comes next. good morning, jobina. >> after the relief bill passes the house, president trump will likely sign it into law. as we know the pandemic has had devastating effects on the u.s. economy. we brought to you this news that more than 3 million americans filed for unemployment last week, according to the labor department, that is a record high. relief is on the way, though.

the economic stimulus package includes one-time checks for americans making below $99,000 a year and couples who make less than $198,000. >> and i'm profoundly grateful that both parties came together to provide relief for american workers and families in this hour of need. >> while this may help the economy, the health battle against coronavirus is far from over. the u.s. has more reported cases than any other country in the world, even china. more than 1,000 people have died and overnight president trump tweeted that he did speak with china's president and they are sharing information that they are getting through this and dp guide us, as well. >> thank you, jobina. in the bay area, the number of covid cases keep rising. 32 people have died. santa clara county now has at least 542 cases, which is the

most in the bay area. san francisco is now second with at least 223 positive cases and san mateo county is reporting nearly 200 cases. we're also tracking the number of cases for our viewers in mendocino and lake county. mendocino two confirmed cases and lake county still reporting none. as coronavirus cases continue to surge, contra costa county says it will use the high school in martinez as a temporary care site. for now it will help patients with less complicated medical needs. the county expects to use the gym and kitchen area, but not the classrooms. the county is also looking into using the pittsburg health center. the oakland city council yi to advance measures to g over address the public health crisis. this comes after a town hall last night. >> also started to open the just under 400 hotel rooms thanks to the state of california that

that has gotten me out of the house but now i'm like a lot of folks back home and i can't imagine how stir crazy some people are going staying at home all the time. it's definitely a different feeling working from home than getting out of the house and going there and being with you guys. so, maybe you have it better. i don't know. we'll talk about that as we get deeper into this. let's talk about the temperatures on the east bay shore. mid to upper 30s in castro valley and san leandro and 47 right now in richmond. other neighborhoods a little bit cooler. look at those mid to upper 30s in the north bay valleys. 37 in pleasanton and everybody else mid to low 40s in the east bay and into the south bay. san francisco one of the mild spots at about 48. if you have to be out and about today, your activity planner is going to be comfortable temperature wise if you're exercising, remember, a lot of pollen out there. dry today. do your yard work today before the rain keeps you from doing it this weekend and your grass just

welcome back. it's 5:13. if you're just joining us, here are seven things to know. b cases has nearly doubled to 1,446. santa clara county still has the most cases. the dmv is reportedly closing all its field offices to the public starting today. according to "l.a. times" they are worried about its workers and spread of covid-19. stricter restrictions at the covid-19 testing site. it is free, but you need to be experiencing a high fever or shortness of breath. making news this morning, british prime minister boris johnson is the latest world leader to be diagnosed with coronavirus. ho he got tested after experiencing mild symptoms.

spoke with said those tests have a 10% to 15%ate of produng false gave n line with testing for other viruses like the flu. right now, testing for coronavirus is done with nasal swabs. dr. bruce paterson says pathologists learned during the sars epidemic that throat swabs provide better data. >> we're surprised that oral swabs had a higher swab than the nasal swabs which, of course, contributes to sense tiv titivi detection. >> dr. paterson says blood tests could be a good route to test people who developed antibodies. those people would have protection from getting sick. outhwest airlines gate agent has tested positive for coronavirus. he last worked at oakland international airport on sunday. dan noyes has been investigating

what, if anything, has been done to alert customers who had contact with that agent. >> some employees are worried about the spread of coronavirus after a gate agent tested positive. the employee sent me pictures of terminal two with workers doing a deep clean. the agent worked at gate 23, you can see it cordoned off and gates 25, 26, 27 and that he used the bathroom at the terminal two baggage claim. southwest tells me an enhanced cleaning of the gate areas was performed in accordance with applicable guidelines. they shut down and cleaned the bathroom. a maintenance worker said he was heavy on the hydrogen peroxide. >> wrm i'm not going to touch anything. i touched my bag and i'll walk in the door and sit down on the plane. m thstnd the airport has done everything they are supposed to do to take care of that. >> reporter: other southwest employees who do not want to go on camera citing company policies have concerns.

exploratorium camera. nothing wet today and a little bit cooler than average highs, once again. and it will be milder tonight because the clouds coming in and start bringing us areas of rain by tomorrow morning and the rain will keep spreading across our neighborhoods. two waves of it or at least two storms will do that over the weekend and then we have some 70s into the forecast next week. for today, about 57 to 62 is our spread. that's about five to eight degrees cooler than average. and as we look at what is going on as far as the future radar, you can see the time stamp there at 7:00 this morning. pretty clear and here comes the clouds as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. no rain and by tomorrow morning waking up to the scattered areas of rain which become more widespread and moderate showers. and then as we head overnight into sunday, more rain on the way as the second storm comes in. but notice it moves out quicker. we may be able to salvage some dry times during the afternoon hours before the sun sets. you can see the rainfall is going to be pretty healthy

goldylocks moment. monday they were too strict. they were screening people and only allowing people who had a fever to get the test. that turned out to be too restrict of. only 207 people made it through the screening to get a test that day. well, they have 360 tests a day. so, tuesday, wednesday, they just asked people a few questions. they let the elderly and the homeless through no matter what. that meant too many people got through and they overwhelmed the lab. >> we were seeing a lot of people get the test, which is great for us. but, you know, the county and health department said, symptom can get the test. those are the guidelines we're using today. >> yeah, so, that's the big one now. you have to have symptoms of the virus. even the homeless and the elderly, they will require you to have symptoms before they give you a test. they also will likely shut down

early today. so, come this morning, if you want to test, they are open on the weekend, too. so, tomorrow same, same schedule. they open at 9:00 every morning. the original plan had to been to stay open until 6:00 p.m. and they'll get back to that. right now to let that lab catch up, they'll shut down in the early afternoon. they do have a phone number for you to call. if you want to call and see what time they're ending up shutting down, if you should come out. it's 510-583-4949. it's also on my twitter page and on abc 7 news website. this site is free. the test is free. it's open to all residents, not just residents of hayward. we're in front of fire station number 7. reporting live in hayward, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you so much, amy. the state says there's a massive backlog of people waiting to find out the results of their covid-19 test. altogether just over 20,000 results have come back and that leaves 57,000 people who are

still waiting for their results. uc berkeley professor john schwartzburg says it's appalling how few tests the u.s. has done. >> really a crime that we're in this position. we haven't tested enough people to really have a thorough understanding of how many people are infected and how many people aren't infected. where are those people? >> dr. schwartzberg says south korea has done more tests in one day than the u.s. has done in total. we want to look at the big picture now and check out the number of cases across the bay. the number of covid cases in the bay area has doubled as more people get tested. monday 579 cases and this morning nearly double 1,456 confirmed cases. 248 more cases than we had at this time yesterday. 32 people have died so far. santa clara county still leading with the most cases at 542. we're also tracking the

number of cases for our viewers in mendocino and lake counties. mendocino reporting two confirmed cases and lake county still reports none. a patient at laguna hospital has tested positive. the hospital has been on lockdown after six staff members tested positive. 200 sonoma county inmates have been released and this is to keep the virus out of the county's two jails. they were all serving time for nonviolent offenses. alameda county judge has ordered the release of eight santa rita inmates who are vulnerable. and bts postponed its north american tour and that includes the april concert at levi concert in santa clara. the u.s. struggles to deal with a surge in covid-19 cases. the house is expected to take a final vote today on a stimulus package to help people who are hurting financially because of the pandemic. abc news reporter ines de la

away. more than 3 million americans have filed for unemployment all because of the coronavirus pandemic, but they still have to eat. already, bay area food banks are ramping up. yesterday the redwood empire opened a drive-through. one bag had produce and the second with frozen meat, chicken and eggs and a third bag with dried goods. as you can see, those bags went straight into the trunk which is a new form of social distancing. >> i lived through the fires up here and it was, you know, our whole community but neighborhoods. this is the world. >> we are seeing people who in large part who have never sought food assistance before. >> now, if it's any indication of the need, the pop-up drive-through was supposed to open at 2:30 yesterday afternoon but when the cars started lining up at 1:30 they started an hour early. >> wow.
