the east bay department of weather is what we're going to call it. i've got socks and slippers on this morning. it's kind of chilly in the house this kind of morning. i have to adjust the thermostat back to me being up at this time. let's talk about what is going on. hi, everybody. trying to do social distancing the best we can. thanks for bearing with us. here's a look at the freezeern wai warning up in lake and mendocino counties. keep everything protected and save it from these freezing temperatures. we're starting to reach our coolest levels and we'll get there in about an hour or so and already freezing in napa, calistoga and ronard park. upper temperatures upper 30s to upper 40s. not as code cold as up there. san jose under a partly cloudy sky and temperatures in the mid-50s at noon and increasing high clouds that will keep us in the upper 50s by 4:00. at least dry all day today and low 50s if you're heading out at

7:00. >> all right, thank you, mike. stay at home or at least stay local, that's the message from the san francisco department of parks and recs. in an effort to cut down on crowds. abc 7 news ansar hassan is live on how this may affect some plans for folks looking to get out of the house this weekend. good morning. >> good morning. that's right. you can see the parking lot entrance here at is closed as is the case at many parks and beaches across the state. message from officials. stay home. if you need to go out, best advice is to go to places you can walk to and always maintain social distance. parking lot closures is an attempt to prevent what happened last weekend when we saw these areas having big crowds gathering. state and city officials say it's okay to go outside for a walk, run, hiking or biking, but they want people to do so at local parks. here in san francisco, parking lots will be closed ft. fudson,

marina green and ocean beach. the decision was made yesterday following an order by governor gavin newsom on monday. san francisco park and rec tweeted that they want people to stay healthy, but they also want people to stay close to home. these closures are temporary, but no decision yet as to when they'll be reopened. reporting live, ansar hassan. another step forward to help the u.s. economy. the house is expected to vote today on a $2 trillion economic stimulus package which the senate pased earliersweek. jobina is at the live desk with what comes next. good morning, jobina. >> after the house passes the coronavirus relief bill and president trump will likely sign it into law as we know. the pandemic has had devastating effects on the u.s. economy. we first told you yesterday here on abc 7 mornings the news that more than 3 million americans filed for unemployment last year, according to the labor

department. that is a record high. relief is on the way, though. the economic stimulus package includes one-time checks for americans making below $99,000 . >> and i'mprofoundly grateful that both parties came together to provide relief for american workers and families in this hour of need. >> while this may help the economy, the health battle against coronavirus is far from over. the u.s. has more reported cases than any other country in the world. even china. more than 1,000 people have died in the united states. overnight president trump teeted that he did speak with china's president. he says that china and the united states are working together and sharing their knowledge and understanding of the virus. back to you all in the studio. >> thank you, jobina. to give you a sense of how widespread the virus is. take a look at these numbers. at least 30 states have implemented or announced the statewide closure of

nonessential businesses and that includes us here in california. as jobina just talked about. millions of americans are out of work and a lot of them are in the airline industry. delta airlines says more than 21,000 delta employees have volunteered to take unpaid leave. the coronavirus is spreading fast here in the bay area and now we're close to 1,500 cases and 32 people have died. you can compair that to monday morning when there were about 800 cases and 13 people had died. as coronavirus cases continue to surge, contra costa county says it will use the high school in martinez as a temporary care site. for now it will help patients with less complicated medical needs. the county expects to use the gym and kitchen area, but not classrooms. the county is also looking into using the pittsburg health center. a bay area power couple known around the globe for their novels is working hard at something different lately. they're feeding hospital employees and helping local restaurants in the east bay. abc 7 news reporter jrr story.

kits, but the san carlos pathologist that we spoke with said those tests have a 10% to 15% rate of producing false negative results. that statistic is in line with testing for other viruses like the flu. right now, testing fcona i dones pathologists learned during the sars epidemic that throat swabs provide better data. >> oral pharyngial swabs had better result than the nasal swabs which contributes to sensitivity for detection. >> now, that there is pressure to get people back to work, dr. paterson says blood tests may be a good route to detect. those people would have prodekz fr from getting sick. a southwest airlines gate agent has tested positive for coronavirus. he last worked at oakland international airport on sunday. southwest employees sent the i team these photos of workers

deep cleaning terminal two. now, the airport says the agent worked at gate 23, 25, 26 and 27. we also learned he used the restroom at the terminal two baggage claim. southwest said it enhanced cleaning at the gates and shut down and clean the restroom is what they're doing to take care of it. a flight attendant and a couple passengers we spoke wsaid. >> southwest probably took care of it and we're still being spaced. >> for me. i'm i'coly wlake care of it. >> thatt that's one way to take of it. >> other agents said they're hope not carriers and spreading it to others. southwest

portland northward. that is our rainmaker and take all day to slide down the coast with us. watch the clouds increase as we head throughout the day. and a gorgeous sunset likely very colorful. #abc7. we'd love to see it. waking up with light rain and turning over to light and moderate showers as we head into the afternoon and evening hours. another moderate and steadier rain sunday morning and then sunday afternoon would be the drier afternoon to be outside. rainfall totals about 0.01 to 0.05. we could be higher than that in some a wre some waves of showers train. they go over the same area over and over like a train on a track. you could get up to 0.75. the santa cruz mountains will get up to an inch of rain. temperatures in the 50s tomorrow. temperatures a lot like today. just a little weather sunday and then look at that warmth next week. 60 at the coast but low to mid-70s for the rest of us. i hope you have a good weekend.

going to be today. you see the bell there. since its low on monday, the dow has risen 21%. setting expectations high as the house will pass the coronavirus stimulus package. of course, we're tracking the big board and an update coming up. but big expectations for what the market will do this morning. well, good morning. thanks so much for being here. it is a friday, march 27th. a lot to talk about here on abc 7 mornings. we start with meteorologist mike nicco working from home on this friday with the forecast if you're looking to get out of the house this weekend. hey, mike. >> hey, how is it going, julian. thanks, i appreciate that. miss you guys already. hopefully you're doing well. hi, everybody. let's take a look at what is going on and we have some fog and the reason i highlight it because we have fog in the north bay under a clear sky, the temperatures are below freezing in some of those areas like around napa. there is the possibility of black ice. this is also the area under the frost advisory.

those temperatures could remain below freezing and keep everything in place that you're using to protect your pets and t's see where we end up this iso afternoon. dry for sure. no need for the umbrella today. you will need the sunglasses, even though we'll have increasing high clouds and temperatures from about 57 to 62 degrees. now, we got a chilly weekend with rain, waves of it, on the way. it's a one on the storm impact scale for both days. we'll talk more about that coming up. >> all right, thanks, mike. happening today, the coronavirus testing site in hayward, it will be open, again, but this time some tighter restrictions on who can get a test. >> abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield joining us live at hayward with what we can expect today about the new testing guidelines that are being rolled out. good morning. >> hi, good morning, julian. i heard a good phrase that i think applies here. we are building airplane as we fly it. things do keep changing out here and they are figuring it out as

theyight now, today, they will allow people to get a test here, if they have symptoms for the coronavirus. for the last couple of days, they were allowing the elderlyr recently traveled to europe and they were just asking people questions and not assessing them for symptoms but open door policy has created a backlog. >> we're getting information from the lab that we're kind of inundating them with, you know, the test kits. so, we've kind of been told to scale this back for a couple days while they catch up. everything kind of evens out and we'll be able to resume our normal operation of 370 test kits per day. >> so, they will likely close early today and not do their scheduled number of tests. so, if you want to test today, come this morning. if you don't have symptoms, do not come out here. you will likely not get a test. you will waste your time.

how few tests the u.s. has done. >> it's really a crime that we're in this position. so, we haven't tested enough people to really have a thorough understanding of how many people are infected and how many people aren't infected. where are those people? >> dr. schwartzberg says south korea has done more tests in one day than the u.s. has done in total. the number of covid-19 cases in the bay area has nearly doubled in just this week as more people get tested. now, on monday, there were 789 confirmed cases, but as of this morning, again, that number nearly doubled with 1,456 confirmed cases. that's 248 more cases than we had at this time yesterday. 32 people have died from the virus. santa clara county has the most cases with 542. we're also tracking the number of cases for our viewers in mendocino and lake county. mendocino county reporting two confirmed cases and lake county still reporting none.

>> a patient at laguna honda hospital has tested positive for coronavirus. the hospital has been on lockdown since wednesday when six staff members tested positive. about 200 sonoma county inmates have been released to keep the virus out of the county's two jails. they were all serving time for nonviolent offenses. in alpleameda county the judge ordered the release of eight inmates who were considered to be vulnerable. south korean boy band bts postponed their tour. we are tracking new developments involving the pandemic and the dmv. closing all of its field offices due to the public starting today. let's check in with jobina at the live desk. jobi i jobina? >> yes, the dmv says it's worried about its workers possibly coming into contact with some customers that could becovid-19. starting today 150 field offices will be closed to the public. the "l.a. times" didhe

dmv is taking, ote, steps to address public health and safety concerns including public contact and increasing social distancing between individuals. workers will be placed on paid administrative time off. offices will be closed for cleaning and disinfecting. staff will return to work on april 1st, but dmv offices will remain closed to the public until further notice. of course, this announcement comes after the notice was made about the deadline for a real i.d. that has been pushed back to october 2021. kumasi, back to you in the studio. >> thank you. developing news this morning as the u.s. struggles to deal with a surge in covid-19 cases. the house is expected to take a vote for people who are hurting because of the pandemic. ines de la cuetara is in washington with the spread across the country. >> reporter: this morning 5,000 u.s. sailors are on lock down as

coronavirus spreads through one of america's largest warships. >> we are in the process of testing 100% of the crew of that ship. >> reporter: at least two dozen crewmen aboard the "uss roosevelt" testing positive. >> the danger here is that the whole crew becomes infected and the ship is not able to carry out itsdulatei duties. a large part of the u.s. military in the pacific could be tied up pier side for weeks. >> reporter: this as the navy sends two hospital ships to u.s. and l.a. fema promising more life-saving and much-needed supplies. dr. colleen smith from a hospital in new york taking abc news and "new york times" inside the heart wrenching situation there. >> today is kind of getting worse and worse. we had to get a refrigerated truck to store the bodies. >> reporter: but president trump telling fox news -- >> a lot of equipment is being asked for that i don't think they'll need. >> reporter: trump also sending governors a letter suggesting he may soon take steps to begin reopening the country. saying the administration is

working on new guidelines categorizing counties as high risk, medium risk or low risk. >> and our people want to go back to work. i'm hearing it loud and clear from everybody. i think it's going to happen pretty quickly. >> reporter: today the house will take the final vote on that $2 trillion stimulus package, which would include sending american families checks on the first week of april. ines de la cuetara, abc news, washington. the coronavirus pandemic has been a tragedy for several bay area families. mike and dede are struggling to find closure after mike's mom, pat carter, passed away in a san jose hospital monday night. her death came four days after testing positive for covid-19. the 81-year-old came to visit them from panama in february feeling great and weeks later was not feeling well and went to the e.r. her coronavirus diagnosis turned into bilateral pneumonia.

rae money for meas on whe before we get to those stories we want to check in with mike. good morning, mike. >> good morning, julian, kumasi. i'm tracking a little bit of fog down towards napa and american canyon. most affected highways 12 and 29. and let's head a little bit farther up and you can see around windsor along 101 we've got some thick fog there and temperatures right around freezing and that means some of this fog could turn into black ice. that will hang around until at least about 8:00 or 8:30 if it happens. not a very thick fog. not a ton of moisture. else where mid-30s and low to upper 40s around the bay. look at san jose where it's 39 and dry all day today. chill to cool if you are on mass transt and slight lly breezy th afternoon. in the north bay, a significant

you're never more than seven minutes away from your accuweather forecast. >> this is abc 7 mornings. absolutely w all right. let'sal abo on weather wise. hi, everybody. beautiful shot from the exploratorium this morning where it is about 47 degrees. that's at pier 15 there in san francisco. let's take a look and you can see mid-30s to upper 40s at 7:00 and 53 to 55 with increasing high clouds at noon and 53 to 58 at 4:00. high temperatures right around 1:00 or 2:00 and we'll see some 60s and low to mid-50s this evening. all right. around around the state today from a breezy 67 in l.a. and scattered snow showers up across the sierra where we'll get just a couple inches of snow over the weekend. we're going to be receiving the

6:45 right now and happening now, parking lots to a number of parks around san francisco are closed all in an effort to cut down on crowds. abc 7 news reporter ansar hassan is live with details on how this could affect your plans. good morning. >> good morning, julian. that's right. you can see the entrance to parking lot here is closed. the message from state officials, stay home. the closure of parking lots at the national park service is to make sure there isn't a repeat of what happened last weekend. that's when big crowds gathered at parks and beaches here in san francisco parking lots will be closed at marina green and this was made yesterday following an order by governor gavin newsom which came down on monday. state officials say it's okay to go outside to exercise, to bike but they are encouraging people to do those activities closer to home. the closures are temporary. no decision yet as to when the parking lots will reopen.
