outbreak started. the death toll now stands at 25 with nearly 600 confirmed infections. nearly all bay area counties logged more cases. late tonight, marine county's total went up by five. the total stands at 74. we are keeping a close eye an mendocino and lake countys. one of those three has recovered according to county public health department officials. lake county is reporting no cases. amid the coronavirus outbreak, hospitals and health care professionals are experiencing a medical supply shortage. officials say hospitals are running dangerously low on personal protective equipment. abc 7 news reporter rory martinez joins us live from the news room with how a bay area 3d printing company is trying to step in. >> this oakland-based printing

company employed 50 people. they're down to roughly four now. in the last week and a half they completely difficulted their business model to sourcing medical supplies but they're running into holdups and restrictions. >> i never thought i would be sourcing medical supplies in an emergency. >> fathom is a 3d printing company in oakland. they're diverting it to sourcing ppe supplies. >> we reached out to our colleagues in china and had them explore some fda manufacturers making ppes to see if we can fulfill the need for our local communities. >> those chinese vendors are sending thousands of masks to the company, but they're running into restrictions. >> they potentially need to pass emergency procedures to approve suppliers because this equipment exists out there. it just simply is not -- the dots are not connected between the manufacturers and the hospitals currently. >> a program manager for a

physician group that operating 140 emergency rooms in 17 states, 20 in the bay area. >> the hospital in the bay area was down to maybe a day left of masks at their site. fathom had hundred of masks and handed those off directly to our medical director. >> they're even working with other 3d printing companies to design and manufacture a 3d printed swab to fulfill the s shortage. the program manager said there are different businesses that have supplied that will keep our front line doctors and nurs safe. dental offices, nail salons, construction and paint supply companies sometimes have a stock of masks, gowns, face shields and gloves. reporting live in the news room, lauren martinez. >> it is quite an undertaking. now, if you have materials

you would like to donate to hospitals, we have information on how you can help. it is all at our website. governor gavin newsomeis calling on tech leaders for their help, especially when it comes to refurbishing life saving ventilators. cornell bernard with how a company is now stepping up. >> the governor led a round of applause for these tech workers at bloom energy. it's become a pop-up assembly line for life saving ventilators. >> medical grade ventilators, medical grade oxygen. >> these balloons simulate lungs during testing. they're working to refurbish hundreds of ventilators from the state emergency supply in hopes to get them to hospitals to treat coronavirus patients. the number of patientsu sti num went up 105% overnight in the

state of california. >> the state has secured 4,000 ventilators but may need at least 10,000. and thousands will need new batteries. >> hopefully what we are doing here is to say we can do this. a week ago none of us knew anything about ventilators other than we knew what it was being used for. >> but these workers are figuring it out and getting it done. the san jose mayor is impressed by the ingenuity. >> so evheartened by what i hav seen. finding whatever creative way they can to make things work. >> at a time of need, i think the only way we can do what we want to do is to understand what the need is. >> governor newsomesays other california companies are now pitching in during the pandemic. >> that's the spirit of california.

that's the spirit of this moment. take responsibility, take ownership. >> reporter: some of the ventilators will go to l.a. others will go to hospitals right here in the bay area. they have a manufacturing company back east. they are doing the same thing. stanford hospital acting as a consultant for the operation. seven staff members and a patient have tested positive for covid-19 at laguna hospital. all are reportedly in good condition. five of those staff members provide patient care. the city run hospital is now in the process of testing 175. most of the residents are over 65 with serious health conditions. laguna honda remains underlockdown. hayward has criteria. the free tests are being limited to people with a fever over 100 degrees and other symptoms like a cough or shortness of breath.

before exceptions were made for people that had risk factors. the tests are conducted at hayward fire station number 7 every day except monday until supply runs out.g lines at costco this morning. check out this image showing the line before the redwood city store even opened this morning. customers here were lined up from the entrance down the side of the building and back. meantime, people have begun lining up before 3:00 in the morning at a costco in southern california. while you may see few empty shelves, costco's ceo says the flow of goods into the stores is strong. meantime, in today, they talked about an effort by the california grocers association to have stores voluntarily limit panic buying. but if that doesn't show results

place order, congregating in groups and not keeping their social distancing. sprans gates will be locked and signs posted at all entrances. the parks will remain closed until further notice. urging pet owners to develop an emergency plan in case they get hospitalized with coronavirus. shelters say they are not equipped to handle hundreds of expected pets that will need care. they say owners should find a temporary caregiver and come up with a written plan that includes contact information, feeding schedule, vaccinations and vet history. they're urging owners to prepare a kit with emergency supplies. shelters at home is making some people a bit stir crazy these days in the north bay. one neighborhood has come up with a creative way to let off a little steam and to connect with their neighbors. here's cornell bernard who went to find out. >> no, that's not a convention

of coyotes you hear. it's the residents of mill valley checking in together thanks to a community howl. it's become a thing every night at 8:00 during the stay at home order, a chance for neighbors to step outside and connect. christine and her kids never miss it. >> it's kind of a way to release stress and to know that you're going to hear some of your neighbors and recognize some voices. >> reporter: but it's more than just blowing off steam. it is a chance to thank medical workers on the front lines of the pandemic. >> it's really fun to just howl and thank all the hospital people. >> reporter: the idea started in italy. quarantine citizens singing and making noise, thanking doctors and nurses and greeting each other. back home, there is a new howls are echoing through the hills and canyons. even retirement communities are letting loose.

the mill valley howl has its own facebook page started by scott shoe maker, complete with a few confused dogs, but mostly a community rallying together. >> going outside and hearing the whole valley howling is probably the most special part of the experience. just it gives you a sense of like everyone is in this together. >> reporter: the idea has caught on to other communities where they were making noise on friday night. during these uncertain times, when you think about it, a good howl just makes sense. in mill valley, cornell bernard, abc 7 news. >> i was tempted to do the same during that story, let out a big howl. all right. we are joining now with abc 7 news meteorologist drew broadcasting from home. does the weather have anything to howl about? >> you know what, at least when it's raining out, you can kind of hunker down. it feels a little less shelter in place and cabin fever.

after the rain moves out tomorrow, a major turn in our pattern for warmer and brighter weather. live doppler 7, a little bit of a break in the rain. on and off showers. right now a couple showers in the east bay. we zoom on down to brentwood, antioch. you can see light rain and some light sprinkles around mount hamilton right now in the south bay. we're waiting round number two of the wet weather which arrives early in the morning tomorrow. temperature-wise haven't moved too far from our afternoon highs. 54 in oakland, 52 in san jose. so it is a mild night relatively to cool off quickly. here is the satellite with a bigger storm we are tracking. what we're waiting is a cold front that's going to move

that second round of rain for our sunday. so on the storm impact scale, it is a level one light storm we have here tonight and tomorrow. we'll track some showers and even some scattered downpours. it looks like the best chance of finding those downpours will really be before noon tomorrow morning. less than a half an inch of rain for most cities. it remains breezy at times. but the winds aren't that strong. pretty much everyone will settle in the 40s as our rain moves through. let's go hour by hour on future weather. early tomorrow morning, this is 2:30 a.m. we see that line begin to move on shore. and then as you get towards 7:30 a.m., you see these pops of yellow on your screen, parts of marine county and san francisco, those are the storms we will be tracking. by midday, lunchtime, we begin to see the heaviest of the rain move out here and the showers turn more isolated in nature.

we see the cloud cover break down a bit for some evening sunshine and we'll finish out our sunday on a dry note. highs tomorrow, a couple degrees warmer than we were today. 60 degrees in oakland. about 56 in the city. 60 in santa rosa and about 55 that high in half-moon bay. rain fall estimates, most cities ending up with less than a half an inch of rain tomorrow. we see a downpour set up over one city a little longer. that's about it from this quick moving storm. here's the seven day forecast. tomorrow, we have that rain in morning, some evening breaking for some sunshine. monday slight chance of a sprinkle in the north bay as a weak piece of energy moves on from the north. otherwise, a lot of clod cover for most. and then that sunshine dominates the forecast. and by thursday and friday, warm weather here with temperatures in the 70s. so enjoy the rain tomorrow. we'll get warmer weather here by

the end of the seven day. >> thanks for the update, drew. well, the coronavirus pandemic is forcing many plans to change for residents in the bay area, and that includes couples with weddings planned. two couples affected by the stay at home order and what they plan to do next. she joins us live outside san francisco city hall with more. >> reporter: on average there is about 36 couples that get married every weekday at city hall. that's about 300 couples that had to cancel their weddings in the last two weeks. we have the story of two of them. >> this is the dress right here, and these are the shoes. >> reporter: six days prior to their wedding day, megan's wedding dress will stay in her closet for now. their civil wedding at san francisco city hall was canceled after the mandated shelter in place canceled their well awaited dream date april 3rd.

>> he has his tux and we had our venue to have dinner with our family and my cousin was going to do our flowers, but the flower mart closed, so everything is just on hold. >> a statewide hold didn't stop this san francisco couple. they are newlyweds in the midst of a global pandemic. >> we got married last thursday. we got a marriage license about an hour before they closed city hall. >> reporter: they decided on the fast wedding, having in mind that tobie was going to have to go back home. >> we gathered about three people on a tiny little beach in san francisco and it was delightful. we were six feet apart except for when when he kissed. >> the office of the city administrator said in part, those that wish to reschedule will receive priority appointments to get married at city hall as soon as it's safe to do so because in the midst of

>> in tonight's coronavirus headlines, governor newsome is applauding the work of a company that has been producing hundreds of ventilators in hopes of getting them to hospitals to treat coronavirus patients. the governor is calling on leaders to step up during the pandemic. there are more than 4,600 confirmed cases in california. another company is using its 3d printers to make personal protective equipment for front line medical workers. they are responding to the shortage of supplies by manufacturing face shields, masks and other items to be worn by staff. and california's shelter in place order has left weddings in limbo. more than 300 have been delayed because of the ban on nonessential gathering. the city administrator says couples will be rescheduled as soon as it is safe to do to. the rapid spread of the

coronavirus has led to president trump directing the cdc to issue a travel advisory for new york, new jersey and connecticut. all of this after the number of deaths in the u.s. reached 2,000 today. but before issuing the travel advisory, the president was considering a quarantine of three states. abc news reporter has more on today's developments. >> reporter: a potential new strategy by the trump administration to slow the spread of the coronavirus, a quarantine of new york state, new jersey and connecticut. states close to the epicenter of the crisis. president trump saying this. >> there is a possibility that some time today we will do a quarantine short term two weeks on new york, probably new jersey, certain parts of c connectic connecticut. >> it could affect the 30 million residents. new york's governor andrew cuomo caught off guard. >> i don't know what that means.

from a medical point of view, i don't know what you would be accomplishing. but i can tell you i don't even like the sound of it. >> reporter: however, late saturday president trump tweeted that a federal quarantine would not be necessary, and he's asked the cdc to issue a strong travel advisory for those states for the governors to implement. in louisiana, another hot spot. more than 3,0 0 cases. at least 130 people dead. the president says several other states like south carolina, texas, maryland and florida are ordering visitors traveling from new york and louisiana to quarantine for 14 days. rhode island going a step further deploying the national guard to train stations, checking passengers tickets and getting their information to make sure they self-quarantine. >> folks from new york present a different kind of danger to the people of rhode island. i know this is unusual. i know it is extreme. and i know some people don't agree with it.

>> reporter: more than 90% of mayors from across the country saying they don't have enough masks or test kits. illinois with more than 450 new cases and at least 13 deaths including an infant. >> if you haven't been paying attenti attention, maybe this is your wake-up call. >> reporter: a naval hospital ship, the usns comfort now on its way to new york city. the u.s. mercy off the coast of los angeles, already admitting patients. the united nations has donated a quarter million masks to new york city. the masks had been located in the un storage facilities. bill deblash you's office be work with the un to distribute the masks around the hard hit city. like hospitals everywhere, new york city hospitals have faced ppe shortages. >> here in new york city, this is the home of the united nations. it has been for decades and decades. but for the first time in our

history, the united nations was saying, you know, charity begins at home. >> the un secretary general applauded the city's health workers as the centers for disease control has issued a warning for the public not to consume a chemical that president trump tauted as a way to treat the virus. an arizona died and his wife was seriously sickened this week after both consume dddddd in aquariums. the cdc warned this morning people should not self-medicate using nonpharmaceutical farms of the chemical. it is under investigation as a possible drug to use against the ru has not been clinically proven.

a los angeles helicopter was seen patrolling parks. this video was taking from venice and shows the chopper hovering there telling people to leave a skate park. earlier this week, the county shut down all parks as an extra precaution in response to the coronavirus outbreak. it affects playgrounds, parks, skate parks and golf courses. the streets of mexico city are quiet this weekend. they have been ordered to close to slow the spread of the coronavirus in mexico city's capital. gatherings of mor t baedstauran remain open, though. mexico's president has resisted calls for more stringent quarantine to protect against the virus. so far there are more than 700 cases. some extraordinary pictures coming out of london. this circus was empty.

tourist attraction was also wide open. some folks did enjoy some recreation at kensington gardens, though. boris johnson enacted the stay at home order monday. there are more than 17,000 cases and a thousand deaths in the uk. this week johnson himself became affected. a nurse helping treat coronavirus patients here in the bay area said she is scared that nurses may be spreading the spry russ. he is ru here is eric thomas. >> it's been scarey. it's been really stressful because we're not really hearing or getting the leadership we need from a national level or even at the hospitals. >> reporter: amy is among nurses who they're in dire need of masks and personal protective equipment also known as ppe. >> when we ask for the ppe, are

we going to be able to get the ppe that we need? it has to go for -- even if you think you have some covid patients. >> they are now allowing nurses to bring their own masks to work as long as they're not medical grade. but she says that doesn't provide enough protection from covid-19. >> we could be transmitting it not having the right ppe. i feel like we're walking it around and passing it around to other rooms. we can't understand why they're so stringy with the ppe. we're told, yes, we have it for now. but we need to hold back. >> nurses say a meeting is set for monday to discuss the situation. >> we want to take care of our patients. we'd just like to have some conversation about how to do it safely. >> nurses may bring their own medical grade protective masks to work. kaiser says in a statement, quote, we are providing our

staff with the protective equipment that is aligned with the latest signs and guidance from the public health authorities. it goes on to say we have asked that staff continue to use masks not soiled in alignment with cdc recommendation. the new normal of living in the shelter in place in the bay area. here is one older couple's personal story of how life has changed for them. >> other than just being close to this guy and petting a new dogs, we are keeping a distance now, which is new. i mean, it is new now. >> i am a retired kaiser pharmacist. >> i recently retired, so this is -- this experience is my
