abc 7 news. many are asking how you can help in this crisis. we have a full running list of what you can donate to hospitals and other ways to get involved, on abc7news.com. this morning the city of hayward is tightening the cry tearia to get tested for coronavirus. this past week it's running its free testing site open to all to show symptoms and now limited to a fever more than 100 degrees as well as a cough or shortness of breath. the tests are being conducted at hayward fire station number 7 on huntwood avenue every day besides monday until supplies run out. new this morning, if you've been using instacart for your food or grocery delivery you may feel some effects tomorrow. workers are planning a nationwide one-day strike as many as 200,000 instacart shoppers are planning to walk off the job, demanding improved equipment, life mask, hazard pay and extended benefits as they work during this pandemic.

instacart announced last week it's hiring 300,000 workers to keep up with surge and demand. the company promised changes including extending sick pay for workers and added bonuses. more long lines for people getting groceries. if you see the long costco lines in redwood city before they opened yesterday, that's what you're seeing, the long lines before costco opened. customers were lined up from the entrance down the side of the building and back and we've also seen lines start up before 3:00 a.m. at one costco in southern california. while you may see a few empty shovels, the ceo says the flow of goods into stores remains strong. in san mateo county, supervisor is warning from the panic buying and grocery hoarding continues the government may have to step in. david kanufa said the california grocers association are trying to limit panic buying for items like toilet paper and hand sanitizer. if it doesn't show results in a

directly effective against the coronavirus. it still goes great with breakfast, though. major changes to public transportation tomorrow in the bay area. b.a.r.t. will continue to close early at 9:00 p.m. with ridership down almost 95%, and tomorrow, muni metro and light rail will no longer run. caltrain will run fewer trains going from its normal 92 to 42 trains since the shelter in place daily ticket sales are down 95%. today's caltrain weekend service stays the same. glide memorial church in san francisco is holding online services today. you can watch it on facebook live, services are every sunday at 9:00 and 11:00 a.m. glide says it will do online celebrations until april 30th. several other churches moved to livestreaming and some drive-through confessionals amid the covid-19 pandemic. abc 7 was proud to help people of all faiths in the bay area worship from home last weekend together. today you can do the same, watch

this is help when you need it. welcome back. a local kaiser nurse helping treat coronavirus patients in the bay area says she's scared nurses may be spreading the virus around, urging king kaise keep medical staff safe. >> it's been scary. it's been very stressful, because we're not really hearing or getting the leadership that we need from a national level or even really at the hospitals. >> reporter: amy scott slovik is among nurses who protested saying they're in dire need of masks and personal protective equipment also known as ppe. >> when we ask for ppe we should be able to get the ppe we need rather than one mask and told you have to make it last for the entire shift and even if you're

taking care of some covid patients and not covid patients. >> reporter: she says kaiser changed its position and allowing nurses to bring their own masks to work, as long as they're not medical grade, but she says that doesn't provide enough protection from covid-19. >> we could be transmitting it but not even having the right ppe we feel like we're walking around and passing it along to other rooms and that's not safe. we can't understand why they're so stingy with the ppe. we're told on one hand yes, we have enough for now, but in case the surge gets worse, we need to hold back. >> reporter: nurses say a meeting is set for monday to discuss the situation with kaiser. >> we want to take care of our patients. we'd like to have conversation about how to do it safely. >> kaiser permanente tell us nurses can bring their own medical grade productive masks to work and kaiser says "we are providing our staff with the protective equipment that is aligned with the latest science and guidance from public health authorities. we have asked that staff, when practical, continue to use masks

that are not soiled, in alignment with cdc recommendations." we continue to hear over and over the lack of ppe equipment from hospitals across the country. laguna honda hospital remains under lockdown this morning. seven staff members and a patient just tested positive for covid-19 at san francisco's laguna honda hospital. although reportedly in good condition, five staff members provide patient care. the city-run hospital is in the process of testing 175 people. most of the residents are over 65 with serious health conditions. the home of the seattle seahawks will be used as a military field hospital for people with medical issues that are not related to the coronavirus. this is an effort to free up space in hospitals for covid-19 cases. 300 soldiers have been deployed to century link field. there will be at least 150 bed and the facility will be ready in just a few days. the detroit pistons are opening up their practice facility to help medical professionals to fight the

outbreak. the coronavirus pandemic is forcing many plans to change for residents in the bay area, and that includes couples who had weddings planned. abc 7 news reporter luz pena spoke to coupled affected. >> this is the dress in here, and these are the shoes. >> reporter: six days prior to their wedding day, seems like meghan duff's wedding dress will stay in her closet for now. >> we're basically in limbo. >> reporter: their civil we had willing at san francisco city hall was canceled after the mandated shelter in place cut into their well-awaited dream date, april 3rd. >> he has his tux and we had our venue to have dinner with our family, and my cousin was going to do our flowers but the flower mart closed, so everything's just on hold. >> reporter: a statewide hold that didn't stop this san francisco couple. kelly and toby castle are newlyweds in the midst of a global pandemic.

>> we got married last thursday. we got our marriage license about an hour before they closed city hall to get marriage lances. >> reporter: they decided on the fast wedding, having in mind that toby an australian citizen, was going to have to go back home. >> we gathered about three people on a tiny little beach in san francisco, and it was wonderful. we were six feet apart, except for when we kissed. >> reporter: in a statement the office of the city administrator said in part "those who wish to reschedule for an in-person ceremony will receive priority appointments to get married at city hall, as soon as it is safe to do so." because in the midst of the uncertainty of this pandemic, what these two couples do have in common is confidence in their love. >> one day, i'm going to have that special moment. >> we knew that we loved each other, and we wanted to spend our life together. that's the most important thing. we'll figure out a party later. >> reporter: luz pena, abc 7 news. >> love always wins.

in the north bay, rower in park place will be issuing citations to people in city parks and nonessential businesses are still operating. it's moving from an educational approach to proactive enforceme enforcement. the warning, stay home unless you're going out for essentials like grocery or takeout. only one person pure household should be the one going out. it's okay to take short walks around the neighborhood. you're looking at a los angeles police helicopter patrolling over local parts yesterday in venice beach telling skaters to! over the loud speaker. l.a. county shut down all parks after huge crowds showed up to beaches and trails, just like what we saw in the bay area. we're focused at abc 7 not only documenting how life has changed in the bay area but helping us get through challenging times. our new special limited series

more today, and then things are going to change, as we get into the first week of april, which april 1st arrives on wednesday, not totally done with the rain i don't think for the foreseeable future, but we are looking at some changes, which we're starting out this morning with another system that's going to move onshore. here is a look at live doppler 7. you can see some of the returns from the north bay, moving up from the southwest, pushing to the north and east, and as we go in closer to the north bay, taking up to ignacio boulevard south of novato, atherton avenue with rain, black point, marin wood and westward toward the coast. bolinas looking at rain. south of san francisco a few areas of souhowers from south cy to pacifica, scattered about on the peninsula into the santa cruz mountains looking slightly wet there from scotts valley and you can see more is offshore and

this will continue to rotate through, that will be the case throughout the morning hours. it is 49 in san ramon as well as dublin, pleasanton and pleasant hill. we have 51 in san francisco, upper 40s up to the north bay, four to five-mile visibility out there with a little fog. dark view of our sutro tower tama tamara, this morning, scattered downpowers, partly cloudy skies for most of you later on today. we will see some of that rain linger in the higher elevations of the south bay throughout the afternoon, and then sunny, but a cool start to the week, it looks like temperatures will feel very spring-like as we get into the week ahead. let's time out the rain for you, 6:30, looking at the showers along the coast, pushing across the bay, 8:30 this morning and then you can see the yellows and the greens here, right through the morning hours, this is mid morning, you'll see it's raining from the east bay, around fremont, down through the south bay, and then as we continue to get through the early afternoon,

about 1:00, you'll notice still some scattered showers, some breaks in the overcast, maybe partly cloudy skies at times, but here we are 5:00 and the rain eventually winding down. looking at about a third of an inch, certainly a northern california event. you can see san francisco to san jose, and the sierra nevada slick conditions in the upper elevations around the sierra crest. as we get towards the afternoon we're partly cloudy, 60 in oakland. look for 60 in the south bay. a few lingering showers, santa cruz mountains. upper 50s in san rafael. cool out there. the level one system throughout the morning hours and as we get into your tuesday, getting a little bit milder, mid and upper 60s. wednesday very little change, and as we get into your thursday, one of the warmer days awith a few 70s arriving. we have the rain in the morning, tapering off for partly cloudy skies to mostly cloudy conditions at level one system, a slight chance of showers lingering into the north bay tomorrow, but otherwise, we're partly cloudy, and then you'll

nationally, vice president pence says this week the coronavirus task force will be making its recommendation to president trump on whether to ease social distancing and reopen the economy. the president's earlier announcement said that the 15-day waiting period would end tomorrow, which defies public health expert opinion. good morning, it's sunday, ma. i'm liz kreutz. we'll continue much more against coronavirus, on the race against coronavirus in a moment. we want to get a quick look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. >> liz, hey, good morning to you. a few showers pushing into the shoreline here, the coastal communities, and this will continue to press across the bay area throughout the morning hours. so it's a level one system. we're going in closer to the north bay, around ma rinnewood, black point, novato towards sears point. bolinas and further to the south pacifica, montera and half poon bay. a couple stronger returns toward the santa cruz mountains. a level one system so we'll see

scattered downpowers throughout the morning, a quarter to maybe a half inch, if you're underneath one of the heavier downpours. 49 fremont, napa. 51 san francisco and throughout a f0s, partly cloudy, a few showers, more sun as evening, and we'll talk about a spring-like forecast for the week ahead. liz? >> thanks, lisa. we'll start with a closer look at the covid-19 spread in the area for those of you just joining us. overnight the bay area topping more than at least 1,800 cases. so now 46 deaths as well we know across the region. there are more than 4,600 confirmed cases in california and 120 deaths across the state. almost every bay area county confirmed new cases yesterday. santa clara county recorded five deaths in a 24-hour span, that is the most in a single day since this outbreak started. up north, mendocino county reported its third confirmed case yesterday, however health

officials say one has recovered, so that's good news. lake county is still reporting no confirmed cases. and the rapid spread of the outbreak is forcing president trump to order a travel advisory anyone living in the new york tri-state area. the president had been considering a full locktown for anyone in new york, new jersey and connecticut. now the new cdc travel i haves 30 million people are being told to halt in their tracks. ty her dan nez her it nan dez h. >> reporter: residents of new york, new jersey and connecticut are urged against nonessential travel within the country for the next two weeks by order of the cdc. this is a step back from president trump's earlier suggestion that these three states could face federal quarantine. and the battle over interstate travel continues with new york

governor andrew cuomo threatening to sue the state of rhode island over its recent policy of targeting and tracking new yorkers coming into the state, and ordering them to self-quarantine. rhode island governor gina raimondo defended the move but also expanded it to all state visitors, no longer singling out new york. this as another prominent new yorker tests positive. james dolan, ceo of madison square garden and owner of the new york knicks, said to have little to no symptoms but remains in self-isolation. tai hernandez, abc news, new york. >> this is in milwaukee the city launched drive-up voting yesterday. voters stay in their car while their i.d. is checked, cast their ballot, hand it off and drive away. the governor of wisconsin is calling for the state to send an absentee ballot to every registered voter. their primary is next tuesday. coming up on "this week" white house national economic council director larry kudlow

discusses the latest on the covid-19 threat and the government's response, watch that full interview on "this week with george stephanopolous" here on abc 7. this viral photo of a dad who is a doctor touching hands with his young son through a glass door is sadly no longer possible. a tornado destroyed their home in arkansas. jared burkes had been staying away from his family for two weeks treating covid-19 patients. he was inside the home when this powerful tornado hit. thankfully he survived. six people were hurt but several other homes and businesses have been destroyed. a virtual campaign ahelping bring smiles to seniors stuck inside amid the coronavirus outbreak. kids are making custom greeting cards for them while they stay home from school. it's part of the project "every letter is a virtual hug." they're sent to seniors living in the washington, d.c., area. organizers say this helps lift their spirits, knowing people are thinking about them.

had a few showers, right now we're going to give you a little radar tour, so you can see where the wet weather is. moving from southwest to northeast, we're looking at the rain in the north bay, to start out. it's been from marin county, pushing up toward sears point, highway 21. napa and american canyon will get wet shortly, going back westward, sir francis drake through highway 1, san rafael, central san rafael, san bruno and as we take you further south, highway 1 pacifica, montera, wet weather half moon bay and as we get into the skrouz mountainsanta cruz mountains, scattered showers and more downpours and the energy offshore that will continue to rotate throughout the next several hours. right now it is in the 50s for new oakland. san mateo 51 with 48 in santa rosa. this is the shark tank. scattered showers and downpours plater on today.y cloudy skies i think the showers will linger through about 3:00 here in the

south bay, around san jose. the rest of you should be looking at partly cloudy conditions sany but cool start to the week, not looking at a big warming trend but we are looking at spring-like weather. we take you hour by hour through the 7:00/8:00 hour the line of wet weather, some downpours good from santa rosa through the city, along the coast. you'll see a few into the east bay and this line marches across the bay area, and by about 12:00/1:00 we're looking at a little bit more rain activity, but also some breaks in the cloud deck that unstable air still with us, but dying down as we get towards the later afternoon. here's 5:00 and things are looking a little bit quieter. rainfall potential throughout the day today anywhere from a couple hundredths perhaps in san ramon to a quarter of an inch, if you're underneath one of the heavier downpours and that could go up towards a third of an inch as well. temperatures today on the cool side, 56 san francisco, this level one throughout the morning hours, and about 60, we'll get some afternoon sun and boy it is
