those federal guidelines include recommended guidelineses for social distancing. california's stay at home order is much more strict and it's in place until further notice. an update of our local cases. santa clara county continues to have the most in the bay area at 426. san francisco has 340 cases an five deaths, one more than yesterday. alameda county has recorded seven deaths. that's up three from yesterday. in total, we're approaching 2,000 confirmed cases in the bay area, and 49 people have died. >> there are still zero confirmed cases in lake county, and there are three cases in mendocino county. those people were traveling and appear to have contracted the disease outside the country. >> santa cruz county has reported its first coronavirus death out of 44 cases. the victim was a man in his 70s who had an underlying health condition. he worked in both santa cruz and santa clara counties. he was hospitalized march 19th and died yesterday.

the santa clara police chief released a video urging citizens to follow the shelter in place order and said plenty of office patrolling the community. >> we have extra patrols out there. a lot of police officers out roming the streets, looking for people who are trying to take advantage of everybody else. we will find you. we will arrest you. we will prosecute you. >> the chief also reiterated to only call 911 if it's a true emergency. we just learned about a grim milestone in new york where now more than thousand people have died from coronavirus. >> and as abc reporter rachel scott explains, the president's plans to reopen the country by easter is put on hold. >> president trump and his coronavirus task force addressing the nation sunday afternoon as the number of confirmed cases of covid-19 in declaring victory before the victory is won. therefore we will be extending our guidelines to april 30th to

slow the spread. >> nearly 125,000 cases claiming more than 2100 lives, including the death of an infant in illinois. dr. anthony fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert on cnn saying the u.s. could see at least a million cases and potentially as many as 200,000 deaths. >> we're going to have millions of case, but i just don't think that we really need to make a projection when it's such a moving target that you can so easily be wrong and mislead people. >> new york city with more than 30,000 cases of the virus and at least 672 deaths. after considering a quarantine of new york, new jersey and connecticut, president trump reversing course, tweeting overnight that that will not be necessary. instead, the cdc issuing a travel advisory to residents of the tri-state area. other states are now implementing strict measures to stop the spread of covid-19.

florida, south carolina, texas, maryland, and rhode island ordering visitors from new york to self-quarantine for 14 days. and warnings in louisiana where covid-19 cases are on the rise more than 3,000 people infected, at least 137 deaths. nurses now protesting outside hospitals, demanding more personal protective equipment. meredith johnson, a nurse from south carolina says she feels unprotected. >> we should't be scared. this is our job. i didn't sign up for this. i didn't sign up to do it without the right equipment. i didn't ever expect to be in a position where i would be sent to work and literally risking my life. >> amid the shortages of protective gear, president trump saying he hopes the fda can approve mask sterilization after mark dewine says an ohio company has an equipment that can sterilize masks quickly. rachel scott, the white house.

house speaker nancy pelosi called out president trump today, saying he initially downplayed the virus. >> his denial at the beginning was deadly, delaying getting equipment to where it's needed is deadly. as the president fiddles, people are dying. and we just have to take every precaution. >> speaker pelosi added that democrats want to work with the president, but cannot let him get away with making false statements. the president has stressed repeatedly that nobody could have foreseen the possibility of a pandemic despite warnings by the u.s. intelligence community. in san jose, santa clara county is relying on the fairgrounds to play a variety of roles in the fight against coronavirus. right now verily. exhibit halls are being used to shelter. how a place designed to entertain a amuse can play a

into the powell street station with no passengers on board, and barely a soul in the station. >> it's like a ghost town, everything. it seems strange. >> ridership has plunged so starting monday muni will stop subway and light rail service. many stations will be closed. bus shuttles will ask as a replacement providing service on all muni metro lines. >> the route won't change. you'll still be able to be picked up where you're normally picked up on the surface. >> the san francisco transit riders group tweeted calling for muni to halt fare collection, encourage rear door boarding and provide services for social distancing on all buses during the coronavirus outbreak. paul bagnal is still going to work as a house cleaner. >> i hope they have more buses on market street to get people around better. >> bart ridership is way down big, 92%. would 1400riders.2,000 people

golden gate transit will suspend 12 more bus routes starting monday for a total of 60. bus ridership down 90%. the say suspending light rail service starting march 30th replaced by a reduced bus schedule with no fare collection. >> i think it's something that needs to be done if they're hemorrhaging all kinds of cash because they're not getting enough riders. something's got to give. >> many riders have essential jobs and still need a way the get to work. paul is hoping for the best. >> hopefully this virus will pass in the next couple of weeks. we get back to normal. i hate to see things closed. >> yeah, we all do. muni transit workers want to make it clear they are not calling for a cleat stop to fare collection on buses. just anything that involves contact with a driver. no contact clipper cards certainly welcome during these days.

cornell bernard, abc7 news. >> all right, cornell. we appreciate that report. well, gun rights group is cheering the trump administration for designating firearms retailers as part of america's critical infrastructure. even so, that may not lead to gun stores reopening in many parts of california. several organizations filed lawsuits after some gun stores in california were forced to close. now that followed governor gavin newsom letting individual counties decide if gun stores should remain open. the federal designation is only an advisory, which means state and local governments still have the final say, at least for now. state authorities have taken the step of closing vehicle access to all 280 state parks to help stop the spread of coronavirus. in addition, all state parks in sonoma county are closed. all campgrounds and museums and outsideout doors in your own neighborhood and maintain proper

employees for san francisco-based grocery delivery service instacart are planning a nationwide strike tomorrow. the workers say the company needs to offer them more protections. they would like to see hand sanitizers and disinfectant, hazard pay of $5 per order and an expansion of the sick policy. anyone with diagnosed with covid-19 or placed into mandatory quarantine will get up to 14 days of pay. even so, some say with limited

any way possible. even right now our transaction that's in the cafe are completely touchless now. we've also put in place measures like in the cafe we joke and call it black glove service. but we have gloves in every single size for every single employee, and we all wear gloves throughout the entire work day. we're staying positive. i think our team is staying positive, partly because we i think we're probably one of the few businesses that we haven't cut any hours, and we haven't laid anybody off yet either. i think if we just get a little bit of income coming in, then i can just keep on racking up the credit card fees. but my main goal right now is to keep everybody employed, but keep everyone employed safely. i worry about our neighbors, and by neighbors i mean our fellow

birthday, hunter's mom's birthday is actually today. she said it's much more low-key today than yesterday. but hey you think about it, she got to be on tv, and certainly a happy birthday goes out to her as well. reporting live in daly city, jr stone, abc7 news. >> oh, that is precious. smiles all around and something they can save for many years to come. love it. well, the coronavirus outbreak didn't stop one south bay couple from celebrating a milestone anniversary. pat and ray burly marked 28 years of marriage yesterday on march 28th. now the couple, they are avid travelers, and were planning a trip to santa cruz for their birthday and had a trip to italy booked for pat's 70th birthday this year. obviously with the shelter in place, that changed things. so the pair got dressed up, grabbed the champagne, and set up this green blanket inside their san jose home and got creative. >> ray used photos we took

cover is really breaking down. let's take a look at where we stand rainfall to date. remember, our storm season officially begins october 1st every year. you look right now, a percent of normal, we are well below where we should be because of february. it was so dry. and then you have these really light storms coming every day. from san francisco, oakland, sfo to san jose, we were below half of where we should be this time of year. santa rosa at 53% of normal. the similar story at the sierra. the snowpack, statewide right about 52% of where we should be for this date in the season. but we'll take you back to the bay right now. here is live picture from our walnut creek camera showing you fair weather cumulus clouds. some baby blue skies as the sun is slowly setting in our sky. right now temperature-wise where we got this sunshine this afternoon, we were able to bump our temperatures in the 60s like san mateo, oakland. 58 in san jose or 57 in the city. 59 that current temperature in

napa. so hour by hour we go later on tonight. it's a blend of stars and clouds, but we have to watch out for some patchy dense fog, especially in the north bay. we have a lot of moisture at the surface right now thanks to the morning showers. as the sun goes down, we'll have moisture condensing into fog. tomorrow we're going to see a storm system to our north. we're going get scraped in the north bay by an isolated shower. points from santa rosa, glover dale to the north. areas outside of the north bay, we will remain dry tomorrow with a mixture of sun and clouds out there. so overnight tonight, numbers will drop into the 40s, and again, we'll be on the lookout for that dense fog in the north bay developing, which could drop visibility pretty low. tomorrow an isolated chance of a shower in the north bay. otherwise a little warmer of an afternoon tomorrow compared to today. 26 in oakland. 65 in san jose. 60 the high in san francisco. so the accuweather seven-day

willing to sell new york masks $5 less than what the masks will go for. the deal is yet to go through. if it is successful, masks would be delivered over a five week span. marbury is a brooklyn guy before becoming a legend in the chinese basketball association following his nba career. if everyone was normal and we know it's not, this would have been the first weekend of major league baseball play. a's would have been hosting the twins. the giants would have been playing the dodgers in l.a. speaking of the dodgers, the long-time voice of the dodgers vin scully had this message of hope on the dodgers twitter earlier this week. >> yeah, things are tough. but we'll be up off our knees soon. and we just want to remind you about that. and in the meantime, spend the precious time at home with your family. pray a little bit more, like most of us will do, and above all, try to smile, because when you smile, that makes everybody else feel better. god bless.
