well, the rain this week is now moving out. and warmer weather is moving in for the week ahead. we will take a look at the numbers in the accu-weather forecast. >> today, president donald trump extended the social distancing guidelines to april 30th. now, many businesses in our area are wondering how to stay afloat. >> firefighters near daly city and another crew in su city were busy bringing joy to the lives of children. abc 7 news starts right now. good evening, i'm eric thomas. right now, there are 1,951 coronavirus cases here in the bay area, 49 people have died, and santa clara county still has

the most, with 646 cases, and 25 deaths. san francisco has 340 cases, with five deaths. san mateo county reports 277 cases and six deaths. almeda county has 270 cases with seven deaths. contra costa county, 175 cases, three people have died. and as you can see, there are fewer cases in the north bay. santa cruz county has recorded its first coronavirus death out of 44 case, the victim was a man in his 70s, who had an underlying health condition. he worked in both santa cruz and santa clara counties. he was hospitalized on march 19th and died yesterday. the santa cruz police chieve released a video telling citizens to follow the shelter in place order and extra patrols are looking at the streets. >> and police are looking, roaming the streets trying to find the people who are taking

advantage of everybody else. we will find you and prosecute. >> and to call 911 only if it is a new emergency. coronavirus has had less of an impact north of the bay area, mendocino county has four cases and lake county has zero. the fda has oughterauthored an emergency authorization, and 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine to the strategic national stockpile and doctors will be allowed to provide the drugs when a clinical trial is not available or feasible, the drugs have been championed by president trump despite minimal evidence that they work. there are strong indications tonight the stay-at-home order for the bay area could be extended to the beginning of may. it comes after president trump announced he was extending the social distancing guidelines for the nation until the end of april. this would be another blow to businesses, already struggling to make ends meet.

abc 7 news reporter liz pena is live in the newsroom with more on the story. luz? >> reporter: the conversation has shifted. from the national thought of only having to worry about the 15 days of shelter in place, to now planning for a month of losses. where inevitably, businesses will have to close. >> we will be extending our guidelines to april 30th. to slow the spread. >> the bomb shell that many business owners knew was coming. >> i thought it would be ridiculous to say that it would be ending by easter. i think any reasonable person could look at that and tell it was not a realistic assessment of the situation. >> reporter: with 600 throughout the area, and they had to change the business to survive. >> one day we had a million of

cancellations. >> so two week, millions and millions of dollars. >> it is basically everything and all my life savings and all of my employees' jobs. >> that's what hurts the most. >> yes. >> even though they do have an indefinite stay-at-home order, no local jurisdictions have changed their specific orders. san francisco chamber of commerce has already shifted their conversations with small business owners. preparing them for the worst. >> we are talking about two to three weeks, how do you get your business through a period of two to three weeks and now we're talking about how to get your business through a period of two to three months and how to bring workers back and how are the fastest ways to bring customers back through the door. >> an inevitable thought, maybe of the 175,000 small businesses in this city, closing. >> we are expecting that some of those businesses may not be able to come back again. >> we also contacted governor gavin newsom's office to ask, how does this affect the current

shelter in place guidelines for california. we have not received a response yet. >> luz pena, abc 7 news. the restaurant industry may take years to recover from the shelter in place measures. as many as 30,000 restaurants could close permanently because of the permanent restrictions. restaurants limited to takeout and delivery only has designated the industry according to officials. the association urged the governor to delay tax payments and plan minimum wage increases. sant claire county is relying on the fairgrounds to play a variety of roles in the fight against coronavirus. right now, a drive-through covid-19 testing center at the fairgrounds six days a week. exhibit halls and other buildings are used to house homeless people who are staying at more cramped conditions in shelters. cindy chavez explains how it will play a vital relief role as well.

>> reporter: we want you to know that we are using it to protect families as well, by having this over here and homeless folks, an ability to house those who need to be isolated and one of the ways we're using this to support our families. and the trailer will soon provide places where homeless people who need to be quarantined can have a safe place to live. city leaders in mountain view are spending more people to help more businesses, and homeless people make it through the crisis. it includes $400,000 for small local businesses and $100,000 to help the owners of small apartment complexes and $50,000 to provide portable rest room, hand washing stations and other amenities to help homeless people. this follows mountain view's city council approving a half million dollar rent relief package. a second patient at laguna honda hospital in san francisco has tested positive for coronavirus. health officials announced the additional case this morning, bringing the total number of cases at the hospital to nine. seven of those cases are among

staff members. all those who have tested positive are in good condition. the department of public health says the hospital and its patients are under a quarantine order. state authorities were taken the steps to closing vehicle access to all 280 state parks to help stop the spread of coronavirus. all state parks in sonoma county are completely closed to the public. all campground, museums and visitor centers across the state have been closed. officials say if you wish to take a break outdoors, walk, run, hike, or bike in your local neighborhood, and maintain proper social distancing. the pandemic is forcing bay area transit agencies to change course and eliminate service routes. starting tomorrow, light rail and subway service will shut down in san francisco. bart has already reduced its service. abc 7 news reporter cornell bernard has the story. >> reporter: a balboa park muni train pulls into the palace street station with no passengers on board. and barely a soul in the

station. >> it's like a ghost town. everything seems strange. >> ridership has plunged during the stay-at-home order so starting monday, muni will stop subway and light rail service. many stations will be closed. bus shuttles will act as a replacement. providing service on all muni metro lines. >> the route won't change. you'll still be able to be picked up where you're normally picked up on the service. >> the san francisco transit riders group tweeted calling for muni to halt fare collection, encourage rear door boarding and provide sufficient service for social distancing on all buses during the coronavirus outbreak. >> paul bagnow was still going to work as a housecleaner. >> i hope they have more buses on market street to get people around better. >> bart ridership is way down, on saturday, only 12,000 people rode bart and on a typical saturday 149,000 riders. golden gate transit will suspend 12 more bus routes starting monday, for a total of 60. bus ridership, down 90%, ferry

6:30 p.m. on weekdays and the gas stations will close at 7:00 and the weekend hours won't change. costco set aside the 8:00 a.m. hour tuesday through thursday for members ages 60 or over or people with physical impairments. and san francisco-based gross re, grocery delivery service is going on strike for in sta-cart, they want anyone diagnosed with covid-19, or placed into mandatory quarantine, will get up to 14 days of pay, but some way with limited access to testing, the policy doesn't go far enough. >> playing russian roulette every time i go out there, every time i shop and every time i come into a grocery store. >> they tell abc news, the health and safety of shoppers

trip to italy booked for pat's 70th birthday this year. obviously when the shelter in place order changed things, the pair got dressed up and grabbed the champagne and set up this green blanket inside their san jose home, and got creative. >> we had photos that we took during the vacations over the last five years and using photo shop, he took us on a virtual dream trip around the world to some of our favorite places. >> the pair says it's an anniversary they won't soon forget. as soon as they're able to travel again, they want to visit europe again. there's now an effort to get the people of stran francisco t show front line support for workers of the pandemic and it is called get loud for our heroes, tomorrow night at 7:00, spending a couple of minutes to clap for hospital workers, and first responders and grocery store clerks and front line workers.

it becomes a problem. >> goodwill locations are closed down but still paying their workers. some of the most vulnerable in the state until april 7th and reassess. for those who are sorting through unwanted items at their home or apartment, home furnishings and clothes are the things that are not immediately needed right now, according to the salvation army. >> our thrift locations, our thrift stores are closed for the moment because of the social distancing. and we are still positioning some of our trucks in various locations to collect items, because we do know that people with this extra time are trying to do spring cleaning and those sorts of things. >> salvation army says they are repurposing their workers for now, and hope to have a plan to open several temporary limited donation sites by next week, in oakland, san jose, and san francisco. >> i called up several 800 number, for junk and salvage companies and they said they're still operational, they'll come and haul things away, but for a fee. otherwise, if you're cleaning out an attic or a garage, your best bet is to stash things for

now, until donation centers reopen. i'm leslie brinkley, abc 7 news. parts of this weekend, you didn't want to carry stuff outside anyway because it would just rain on them, right, drew? >> exactly right. we're in and out of the showers, yesterday, and for much of the morning today, eric, and now this evening, the rain is out of here and the clouds are breaking down for some partly cloudy skies tonight. live doper 7, busy tracking all of the rain this weekend, you can see, the sweep going around the entire bay area, and it is coming up dry, as that cold front has moved through. so tonight, we will take to you the south bay. the shark tank right now, a live look, partly cloudy skies and despite on and off showers throughout much of the weekend, it was very light rainfall, so the rainfall totals were pretty light over the past two day, and the weekend showers were lose to a quarter of an inch in oakland and is a ramon, a little less in novato and san francisco, and redwood city one the jack pots for this weekend, the rainfall

more than a quarter of an inch of rain. and san jose, less than a tenth an inch. i don't think anyone will be surprised that we are still lacking in the rainfall department. you can see most cities are about half of the rainfall we should be by this time of the year. santa rosa about 53% of normal. oakland a little bit worse than that. only 70% of normal rainfall since october 1st. numbers out there right now, we're slowly falling into the 40s in some spots, it's 48 in novato. and 53 in the city. 5 5 5 in, 55 in san jose. and san ramon 52 degrees. here is live doppler 7, along with the satellite. you can see the cold front that moved through california, brought those showers today. that's now pushing off to the east. and as we widen out the picture though, what we're tracking, you can see more rain in the pacific northwest. around seattle. and portland. there's another cold front that will be just to our north tomorrow. that will try and bring a light sprinkle to the north bay.

but most places will remain dry the next 24 hours. so overnight tonight, what we're tracking in the north bay is some areas of dense fog, developing over the next couple of hours, so a lot of moisture near the surface that willing likely condense into that fog as the numbers continue to cool tonight. so we'll fall into the 40s across the board. 49 for the low in san francisco. the same in oakland. 48 in san jose. and 42 in santa rosa, with the areas of dense fog. so future weather, we'll get you into tomorrow morning, and there you can see at 7:30 in the morning, there is a chance of a shower, from santa rosa, points to the north, and that chance continues in the north bay, even through the afternoon. but outside of the north bay, we will remain dry, for most cities. so highs on our monday, a little bit warmer tomorrow, then we were today, partly sunny skies for a lost us. about 62, the high. and 60 in the city. and 65 in san jose. and 59 in vallejo. the same in santa rosa and again in the north bay. likely seeing an isolated sprinkle. the accu-weather seven-day forecast. for the next seven days for you, there is that slight chance in the north bay tomorrow.

francisco. the covid-19 pandemic is forcing bay area transit agencies to eliminate services. vta is also suspending light rail service tomorrow. both muni and vta will provide bus shuttles instead. the sant claire county fairgrounds in san jose is being utilized to fight the coronavirus, and trailers will be used to house homeless people staying in cramped shelters. and the drive through testing center will be used six days a week. businesses are preparing for the worst after the strong indications the stay-at-home order could last until may in the bay area. the chamber of commerce is working with small businesses to help them prepare for the long run. the chamber says the reality of some businesses, may not be able to come back again. the president who had wanted to see everything back to normal by easter, is now recommending that people stay home until the end of april. abc news reporter rachel scott with the latest on the battle against the growing pandemic.
