my employees' jobs. >> reporter: that's what hurts the most? >> yeah. >> reporter: even though california does have an indefinite stay at home order, no jurisdictions have changed. san francisco chamber of commerce has shifted their conversations with small business owners preparing them for the worst. >> we are talking about two to three weeks. how do you get your business in two to three weeks. now a period of two to three months? how do you bring workers back and customers back to the door? >> reporter: 175,000 small businesses in this city closing. >> we are expecting some of those businesses may not be able to come back, again. >> reporter: we contacted governor newsom's office and have not received a response yet. in the newsroom,

many are relaying on insacart to get food. workers are now demanding more protections against coronavirus. julian glover is live with those details for us. good morning, julian. >> good morning, jobina. convenient for us. we open up an app and place our order and someone does the grocery shopping for us and so many people have depended on that during this pandemic. but now many of the instacart workers are saying it is not safe for them to do their jobs and to go shopping with so many large crowds packed inside of these stores. threatening to stay home demanding that the san francisco-based company provide hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes and $5 per order and expanded sick pay order. they are playing russian roulette every time they shop. >> if shoppers aren't provided with necessary equipment to shop safely, customers are absolutely

at risk. >> reporter: now the demand for this service has boomed in the pandemic. the associated press reporting that instacart ordered 50,000 new shoppers last week alone. the health and safety of customers, shoppers and employees is its first priority and with the strike planned today it's unclear if grocery orders from sites and stores they service will actually be delivered. for now reporting live in fremont this morning, i'm julian >> thank you. happening now. say good-bye to muni light rail and subway. service is being covid-19 outbreak. muni buses will start running and act as a replacement on all muni metro lines. they're calling for muni to stop their collection and encourage rear door boarding to be able to keep riders socially distanced. in the south bay, vta is suspending light rail service today replaced by a reduced bus

schedule with no fare collection. reduction collection today. it will ride fewer trains and the daily schedule is down to 42 trains a day. usually there are 92. since the shelter in place, daily ticket sales are down 95%. the restaurant industry may take years to recover from the shelter in place measures. the california restaurant association says as many as 30,000 restaurants could close industry.rges the governor to delay tax payments and planned minimum wage increases. the number of coronavirus cases in the bay area continues to rise. right now 1,951 confirmed cases. 49 people have died. santa clara county still has the most with 646 cases and 25 deaths. san francisco has 340 cases with

five deaths. san mateo county reports 277 cases and six deaths. alameda county has 270 cases with seven deaths. co contra costa county has three people that died there. fewer cases in the north bay. coronavirus has had less of an impact just north of the north bay. so far mendocino county reports a total of four cases there and lake county has none. santa cruz county is reporting its first coronavirus death. the victim is a man in his 70s who had an underlying health condition. he worked in santa cruz and santa clara counties. he was hospitalized on march 19th and died on saturday. the county has 44 cases so far. the santa cruz police chief has released a video with a warning to people violating the shelter in place order. >> have extra patrols out there. a lot of police officers out roaming the streets looking for people who are trying to take advantage of everybody else.

we will find you, we will arrest you, we will prosecute you. >> the chief also has reiterated to only call 911 if it's a true emergency. the fda has issued an emergency authorization for a decade's old malaria drug to be used to treat donated hydroxy chloroqine. the drugs have been championed by president trump, despite minimal evidence that they work. this morning, strong accusations from president trump as u.s. hospitals beg for more medical supplies. he is claiming some hospitals are hoarding ventilators, more than what they should be. the president didn't back up the claims by providing evidence or naming facilities. later he doubled down questioning the true reason behind the surge in demand for masks, especially in new york. >> so new york hospital is

happening tonight, this is also a positive story here. everyone in san francisco is being asked to show our heroes and it starts tonight at 7:00. you're being asked to spend a couple minutes clapping for health care workers, restaurant workers, grocery store clerks, first responders and all other essential employees. you can go out on your porch or your balcony or your rooftop or maybe just clap out the window to have those options. this will continue every night at 7:00. new york is doing this and now we have to do it, too. this is video of new york getting loud for health care workers. this was the scene last night as cheers filled the air. thousands screaming from their windows and balconies to show their appreciation for everyone out there working their hardest, mike. i thought that was so amazing. and they're doing it in atlanta, too, my hometown. i saw some videos there.

>> love atlanta. love new york, love us. and wealer be just as loud, won't we? >> we will, if not louder. >> i hope so. going to bed later because of this. it's worth staying up late to cheer those folks on and let them know we appreciate them. 7:00 this evening, too, pretty comfortable. so, here's what we have. look at that right there. you can see san jose mostly cloudy this morning. let's roll out your accuweather highlights. partly sunny day today with showers across the north bay. if you wanted to, you could put you, meaning the north bay, under a one on the storm impact scale. a couple hundredths of an inch while the rest of us mostly cloudy and dry. and then an unsettled weekend is likely. right now not a storm impact scale on it, but the potential for some wet weather. here's a look at two areas of low pressure there.

you'll keep us even cloudy and even a slight chance of some showers and let's look at future radar and here we are at 7:00 in the morning and you see green across mendocino county and head towards northern marin county into the afternoon hours and then as we head overnight things get pretty quiet and then a slight chance of a rogue shower across lake and mendocino counties tomorrow. here's a look at the potential for some wet weather. a couple hundredths ofittle bit wednesday, thursday. and then you can see right there on friday, our first chance of a 70 and then we're back into the 60s everywhere with that chance of wet weather saturday and sunday. so, again, today the north bay. for all of us a slight chance saturday and sunday and we get a four-day stretch of some dry weather and a little more pollen probably in the air, also. jobina? >> thank you, mike. you know, i think whatever
