walnut creek. the bakers started at 2:00 this morning and the cooks came in at 3:00 to start preparing breakfast burritos and sandwiches and pastries. the owner started a go fund me fund last tuesday to help pay for the meals. they started making deliveries on thursday. so far they have made 500 meals for those who are responding during this pandemic. >> because we have to push through. i know a lot of other restaurants have hit tough times like we have, but we've been feeding this community for 40 years. my mother and father started it in 1981 and we continue it today and now in the face of this adversity, we have to find out how to be useful to our community. >> today they will be donating 150 meals to ambulance drivers. they have also fed hospital workers and wednesday they're

into the afternoon hours and during the evening is going to be pretty comfortable, especially around 7:00 if you're going to be out there and making the noise and cheering on all the folks that are out there making life better for us during this pandemic. temperatures in the mid to upper 50s. going to be a pretty nice day today, guys. just a beginning of a drying spell that will take over more neighborhoods as we head deeper into the forecast. >> thank you very much, mike. relief is coming for health care workers on the front lines of cov irx to d-19. governor newsom will announce an initiative to boost the workforce. resources are running low and health care workers are working very low hours. update the public on the pandemic at noon every single day. we have to may shelter in place for longer in order to flatten out the curve. i know many people aren't happy about that but our media partner public health officials in bay area counties are planning to extend the shelter in place

order to may 1st. at last check close to 2,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the bay area. 49 people have died. starting today in san francisco, muni is stopping light rail service that has closed all of its subway stations and replaced trains with buses. a second patient at lagouna honda hospital has tested positive for coronavirus. that brings the total cases to nine and seven of them are staff members. all those who tested positive are in good condition. the department of public health and the hospital says the patients are under a quarantine order. don't expect the nation to recover any time soon. president trump says people should continue social distance forring at least another month. more than 2,500 people have died. ines de la cuetara has more on the president's response from washington. >> good morning. with the nation's top infectious

disease expert warning the u.s. could see a million cases of covid-19, the president is now recommending people stay home for another month. after suggesting he could ease restrictions by easter, president trump announcing he is extending social distancing guidelines until april 30th. >> nothing would be worse than declaring victory before the victory is won. >> reporter: this as the nation's top infectious disease expert dr. anthony fauci warns the u.s. could get as many as 200,000 deaths and up to a million confirmed cases of covid-19. >> what we're trying to do is not let that happen. >> reporter: new york city is leading the nation in the number of confirmed cases and in california, the number of cases surging past 5,000. this as many hospitls around the country still face masks and ventilator shortages. >> i have nurses that call me on a daily basis to tell me that they're scared. >> reporter: but presidet trump seeming to blame the hospitals.

checkpoints in florida are back open in florida after officials shut them down for hours yesterday. traffic was backed up for miles along i-95 from georgia to florida. the governor put in a check point after issuing new orders requiring travelers to isolate for two weeks if they come from certain states. those states include new york, louisiana, connecticut and new jersey. the checkpoints are being enforced 24/7. >> wow. >> yeah. we've never seen that before, right? >> and that line, oh, my goodness. >> that is something else. >> needs to be done, though. some unusual visitors being called in to cheer up a couple senior care home in scotland. >> three alpaca showed up to lift the residents spirits. look at their faces. can't beat the smiles. that is really cute. the animal therapy group brought them after finding out some residents had been isolated for three weeks during the outbreak. they say bringing the alpaca was the perfect thing to do. i love that.

francisco and san jose at 65 and oakland 62 and concord and lincoln at about 63. tonight a lot like this morning. mostly cloudy and a few stars out there and little bit of fog and we'll have more as we get deeper into the week. temperatures in the upper 40s in our inland valleys and low to mid-50s around the bay and out to the coast. here's a look at our chance of wet weather and you can see right there up across the north bay, especially lake and mendocino counties and dropping down into northern sonoma and possibly as far south as northern marin county. overnight quiets down and a rogue shower as we head into the forecast for tomorrow. let's take a look at my accuweather seven-day forecast and what you see temperatures pretty close to average for wednesday as we finally get all in on the sunshine. and that's also april 1st and then you can see thursday and friday pull back the temperatures a little bit with a chance of a shower. definitely starting to look more like spring out there. at least temperature wise after being in the 50s and low 60s and

shelter in place orders for at least another month. bay area counties could start making announcements as soon as today. if you ride muni in san francisco your new normal is now a bus. the agency has stopped light rail service and closed its underground stations. delivery workers for san francisco's instacart are demanding more protections and you may not get your grocery deliveries starting today as a result. i know that is a big deal for a lot of people, including myself, that relay on that. good morning, it is monday, march 30th. >> hopefully they can get that settled real quick. we'll start with the strong indications that our stay at home order for our bay area counties could be extended to the beginning of may. the reports could come from today from santa clara and the north bay counties. that comes after president trump announced he was extending social distancing guidelines for the nation until april. >> this is another big blow to businesses that are already

struggling to make ends meet. luz pena has more. >> we will be extending our guidelines to april 30th to slow the spread. >> reporter: the bombshell that many business owners knew was coming. >> i thought it was ridiculous to say that it would be ending by easter. i think any reasonable person could look at that and tell that was not a realistic assessment of the situation. >> reporter: with 600 vans parked throughout ten states, in the last two weeks he had to lay off 40 of his employees. and now he's gearing to slim down his business even more to survive. >> one day we had over $1 million in cancellations. >> reporter: so two weeks is just millions and millions of dollars. >> basically our entire business and all my life savings and all my employees' jobs. >> reporter: that's what hurts the most. >> yeah. >> reporter: even though california does have an

indefinite statewide stay at home order, as of yet, no local jurisdictions have changed their specific orders. but san francisco chamber of commerce has already shifted their conversations with small business owners preparing them for the worst. >> we are talking about two to three weeks. how do you get your business through a period of two to three weeks and now how do you get your business through a period of two to three months. how do you bring workers back? what is the fastest way to bring customers baic to the door? >> reporter: an inevitable thought that many of the 170,000 small businesses in this city closing. >> we are expecting some of those businesses may not be able to come back again. >> reporter: we also contacted governor gavin newsom's order how this affects the current shelter in place guidelines but have not received a response yet. luz pena, abc 7 news. while many people shelter in place, many rely on instacart to get food. workers are demanding more protections against coronavirus. abc 7 news reporter julian

glover is live in fremont with more on this story. good morning, julian. >> good morning, jobina. convenient for so many of us. we open an app and place an order and someone does the grocery shopping for us and so many people including the elderly have depended on this during the pandemic but many instacart workers are saying it's not safe for them to go in the stores without basic protection. the workers are threatening to strike and stay home today demanding that the san francisco-based company provide basic things like hand sanitizers and disinfectant wipes and hazard pay of $5 an order and an expanded sick pay policy. workers are complaining they are playing russian roulette every >> if shoppers don't have meaningful access to sick pay and provided with necessary equipment to shop safely, customers are absolutely at risk. >> the demand for the service is

absolutely boomed in this pandemic. the associated press reporting instacart hired 50,000 new shoppers this week alone and looking to add a total new onef employees. the health is their first priority but with this threat threatened and planned for today, it's unclear if your order from lucky supermarket will actually be fulfilled. so, hang tight. we'll have to see what happens. reporting live in fremont this morning, jm i'm julian glover >> thank you. say good-bye to the muni light rail and subways. service is being suspended because of the covid-19 outbreak. the san francisco transit riders group is calling for muni to stop fare collection and encourage rear door boarding to keep riders socially distanced. in the south bay, vta is suspending light rail service starting today replaced by a

reduced bus schedule with no fare collection. in addition to the change at muni, cal train is making service reduction starting today. it will run fewer trains. the daily schedule will be down to 42 trains a day and usually 92. since the shelter in place, daily ticket sales are down 95%. the number of coronavirus cases in the bay area continues to rise. right now there are 1,951 confirmed cases. 49 people have died. santa clara county still has the most. 646 cases. 25 deaths. san francisco has 340 cases with five deaths. san mateo county reports 277 cases and six deaths. alameda county has 270 cases and seven people have died there. contra costa county has 175 cases and three people have died. as you can see, fewer cases in the north bay. coronavirus has had less of an impact so far just north of the bay area. mendocino county reports four

total cases and lake county still reporting zero. santa cruz county is reporting its first coronavirus death. the victim was a man in his 70s who had under lying health conditions. he worked in both santa cruz and santa clara counties. he was hospitalized on march 19th and died on saturday. the county has 44 cases so far. the santa cruz police chief has released a video with aern wa w violating the shelter in place order. >> extra patrols out there and a lot of police officers out roaming the streets looking for people who are trying to take advantage of everybody else. we will find you. we will arrest you. we will prosecute you. >> also reiterating to only call 911 if it's a true emergency. the fda issued an emergency reauthorization for decade's old malaria drugs to treat covid-19. donated 30 million doses of hydroxychloroquine. doctors will now be able to

provide the drugs as needed. the drugs have been championed by president trump despite minimal evidence that they work. this morning, strong accusations from president trump as u.s. hospitals beg for more medical supplies. the president is claiming some hospitals are hoarding ventilators. now, the president didn't pack up those claims with any evidence. he didn't name any specific facilities and later he doubled down on this questioning the true reason behind the surge in demand for masks, especially in new york. >> so, new york hospital is packed all the time. how do you go from 10 to 20 to 300,000. 10,000 to 20,000 masks to 300,000 even though this is different. something's going on. >> overnight, new york city mayor bill de blasio's office called the claim ludicrous. there is no hoarding or conspiracy, just a simple fact. our doctors and nurses need

chance of some snow showers today and temperatures below average and quiet all week until another storm arrives friday night and brings us some snow through the weekend. >> thank you, mike. another cruise ship nightmare this morning. at least four people have died on a holland america cruise ship heading towards florida and at least 189 people are suffering flu-like symptoms. nearly 2,000 passengers have been stranded at sea for more than two weeks. the ship embarked on a south american voyage on march 7th. only six days before the u.s. asked all major cruise lines to suspend their trips. the captain is fighting to get the proper tests delivered to the vessel. >> he didn't want to jeopardize the operation to have test kits on the ship. >> the ship is now making its way through the panama canal heading towards ft. lauderdale. it could arrive as soon as wednesday. house speaker nancy pelosi is calling out the president. she is criticizing him for initially downplaying the virus.

>> his denial at the beginning was deadly. delaying getting equipment to where it's needed is deadly. as the president fiddles, people are dying. and we have to, we just have to take every precaution. >> speaker pelosi added that democrats want to work with the president, but can't let him get away with making false statements. the president has stressed that nobody could have foreseen the possibility of a pandemic, although we did get warning by the u.s. intelligence committee. make sure you're keeping an eye out by scammers. police say they may be coming up right up to your front door. reports of people going door to door claiming to be employees with the cdc or sf public health department officers. saying they are sometimes asking for entry into residences to conduct fake inspections and city officials with real city i.d.s are putting up informational door hangers to make everyone aware of this.

what they're doing is just drawing some cloudiness towards us and just enough moisture that is some green showing up on future radar. here we are at 7:00 this morning as we head up into the lunch hour. northern sonoma, lake mendocino counties and some storms are possible and they could dip as far as marin county and as we head into the early afternoon and evening hours. for the most part pretty dry and if you're going to go out and cheer on all the folks helping us. as you can see what is going on during the overnight hours a stray shower possible and then tomorrow you could definitely see increasing sunshine as we head into the afternoon hours. here's our potential for rain. in the north bay, 0.01 and as we head to tomorrow, a random shower could drop 0.01 of an inch. for sure, the last day of march is looking a little bit warmer, especially around the bay and drier for most of us. as we head into wednesday, thursday and friday. temperatures just a little bit

week. imagine that is going to grow a lot more as you continue to be here at home. hi, everybody. let's take a look at what is going on with our weather. we'll start with high temperatures today and still a little bit below average due to the cloud cover and an onshore breeze and upper 50s in places like half moon bay and up in the north bay upper 50s also while the rest of us around 60 to 64 degrees. now for tonight, we're looking at temperatures that will run about the same as this morning. mid-40s in our deepest north bay valleys to mid-50s around the bay. now, let's talk about what has been happening as far as our weekend showers. 0.06 in san jose and we were on the lower end of our scale, unfortunately, which means our deficits actually grew a little bit over the weekend. 7.64 inches. that's how much we're down san jose to almost double that in santa rosa. 15 inches. more than a foot of rain we need to make up and we just can't this time of the year. so, what are we going to be
