don't overwhelm our hospitals with the growing number of coronavirus patients. an overview, additional public areas like playgrounds and dog parks are closed now. most construction as you mentioned, kumasi, is banned. and all essential businesses must come up with guidelines to keep customers spread out in stores to maintain that social distance. they have to figure that out by friday. >> our hospitals are beginning to fill with covid-19 patients. they need more time. we need to do even more to give our health care facilities and providers every advantage we can so that they can care for us when we need them. whether for covid-19 or for any other commute health care need. >> and that is the plea from leaders there. now, we also know restaurants are still allowed to be open, but for takeout only. the same as business. some businesses like ride share businesses and real estate agencies were added to the list of what is being deemed

essential. these new guidelines are in place until may 3rd. leaders across the bay area did acknowledge all the sacrifices that we're all going emotional, social and the financial strain. they're asking that we embrace the shared sacrifice and embrace this moment to help slow the spread of the coronavirus. reporting live in fremont this morning, julian glover, abc 7 news. school campuses might be closed through the end of this school year according to a letter that the state superintendent wrote yesterday. due to the current safety concerns and needs for ongoing social distancing, it currently appears that our students will not be able to return to school campuses before the end of the year. therman's letter is not an order and san francisco unified school district says they haven't made a decision yet to extend the closure through the academic year. they passed out chromebooks to help the 4,000 students that don't have access to the

electronic devices they don't have at home. oakland is still trouble shooting how to the number of coronavirus in the bay area and santa cruz county has surpassed 2,400. two more people passed away from covid-19 in the south bay bringing the total number of deaths there to 30. alameda, san francisco and san mateo counties each have more than 300 cases. to our north. mendocino county reported four cases of coronavirus. no one has tested positive in lake county. look at this, balloons and flowers popped up outside of santa cruz police officer who died. marylou armer was with t t t t

and four police officers have tested positive for coronavirus. jobina. >> thank you, kumasi. at the live desk, i'm tracking the federal government's response to the pandemic. the trump administration says we should prepare for a tough two weeks. dr. anthony fauci warned yesterday as many as 240,000 americans could die from covid-19. states are calling on the trump administration to do more while the administration says testing issues have been resolved, the states say that's not the case. >> they are out. they're in the states. they're not being run and not us us utilized. >> that's just not true. i know they have taken steps to create new tests but they are not actually produced and prohibited out to the state. >> new york governor andrew cuomo has begged the federal government for more ventilators, but he says he has to compete with bids from other states like

california and illinois. despite calls for social distancing, some states still do not have restrictions. in florida they're only implementing those restrictions in the southern part of the state and in mississippi only one county with a shelter in place order. kumasi, i'll send it back to you in the studio. california seeing another jump in coronavirus cases. the state has 8,553 confirmed cases. the state says the number of patients in icu increased 10% in just one day yesterday. the economic fallout from the pandemic could leave san francisco with a shortfall of up to $1.7 billion. this is according to city leaders. fairfield assemblyman jim frasier wants a suspension of bay area tolls, all of them, until the shelter at home order is lifted.

conditions. i couldn't find any fog this morning. increasingly dry air today and that means any cloud cover that is out there is going to go away. so your commute whether it's by land or by bay is going to be quiet or if it's by mass transit if you can find it. let's talk about some neighborhoods. little more cloud cover and shed that and head into the low 60s this afternoon. a couple degrees cooler than where we were yesterday. the east bay valleys, you can see, we start off a little bit sunnier and push us into the mid-60s during the afternoon hours. and if you're going to be out and about on the peninsula, 48 this morning. we'll be about 58 at noon, near 60 at 3:00 and down to 55 degrees at 7:00. delightful start to the month and i do have rain on the way. here's a quick look at the storm impact scale and it's a one for the entire weekend. more rain is possibly coming on the way. here's a look at what's going on

legislation up so we can serve 5,000 families at $500 a month for up to a four-month period of time, if things need to go longer or if we need to do something and adjust, of course, we'll be prepared to introduce other legislation. >> walton believes families could see money within a month if the board of supervisors passes this plan and mayor breed signs it into law. with neighborhoods branches closed, libraries are reinventing them selves to reach out to users with new online services. in san mateo county more than half of the librarians and the staff have been launching online experiences like storytime with the library assistant and a drawing class and an interactive bilingual english/spanish sing along with the communication specialist. one mom of twins is pretty enthusiastic that turns screen time into something interactive.

we'll be able to time it and make the green strength just a little bit because on a smaller grid. looks like everybody is getting healthy rain during the afternoon hours saturday and maybe a break saturday night and again sunday especially during the morning hours and then tapering into the afternoon hours. all right, let's take a look at your rainfall totals and you can see they're most impressive across the north bay and then they'll taper as you head into the south bay because that storm is coming in from the northwest and sliding to the southeast. here's my accuweather seven-day forecast. today a little bit cooler than yesterday but we'll gain the temperatures back as the breezes relax thursday and friday and that also means slightly cooler weather those mornings. saturday and sunday, we'll have a one on the storm impact scale. so, have some stuff handy because you'll be inside more than the next couple of days and little cooler than average monday and tuesday but we'll see a drying trend begin then. have a good one, kumasi. facebook has a new tool to make it easier for people to

help during the pandemic. uber is planning 10 million new rides. facebook adds a way for users to reach out during this crisis. posts from other users asking for or offering help. the listings are within 50 miles of your location. they also include fund-raisers. california is now suing the video conferencing app zoom which has been surging in popularity during this pandemic. the company is accused of giving users personal data to other companies, according to the lawsuit, zoom reported to facebook whenever a user logged on for a call. something zoom says they no longer do. and uber is pledging 10 million free rides and food deliveries for health care workers, as well as senior citizens and others in need as an expansion of the company's offer. a few weeks ago of few meals and rides to first responders. we are indebted to them. those are your techbytes. have a great day. coming up next, walmart has new rules. what they are making workers do

good morning. look how quiet the golden gate bridge is this morning. there may be one car coming towards us, but that's not why i'm showing this shot. i want to talk about the march rebound. we had our driest february ever. we tied it with the 1864, but notice every year we've had a very dry february. we've rebounded better than this year. not only a dry february, we also had a relatively dry march. at least in most neighborhoods. now down in the south bay, you guys are close to average. notice it didn't help the deficit whatsoever. down to 7.25 and 15 inches in the north bay. we'll try to make some of that up this weekend, but not a lot. we'll talk about temperatures coming up in a little bit after this. back to you, kumasi. walmart says it's making changes to keep people safe during the pandemic. including checking workers' temperatures when they come to work. they will offer gloves and

>> yesterday's levels but still be pretty comfortable when you step outside. let's take a look at live doppler 7 and what you're seeing is no rain. absolutely out there. notice the breeze is already picking up along the coast and that is what kind of chased away some of the cloud cover except for some lingering clouds along the east bay shoreline and the south bay. those breezes also are what is going to bring in the drier air and that is what is going to also help bring the sunshine about. we're starting off around 39 to 49 on my 12-hour planner at 7:00 this morning. mid to upper 50s at noon and then we'll stay in the mid to upper 50s at the coast while the rest of us try to hit some low 60s by 4:00 and back into the low to mid50
