have been seeing a steady stream of long lines with people showing up hours ahead of time to be able to get in line to get one of those tests. now, the site is here in fremont and located at 7200 stevenson boulevard. again, it opens at 10:00 a.m. if you are a first responder and someone in the medical profession and you want to be able to jump the line, they are allowing people to schedule appointments, but there is a number you have to call and i'll tweet that out. juliangabc7 on twitter. i'm julian glover, abc 7 news. as testing ramps up in the bay area and in santa cruz county so are the number of coronavirus cases. so far 3,000 cases of covid-19 which is an increase of 230 compared to the total number that we had this time yesterday. 75 people have now died, including the first reported death in solono county. santa clara leads with confirmed cases with more than 1,000.

san mateo is just ahead of san francisco with 453 cases. in the north bay, mendocino reporting four confirmed cases and lake cconfirmed cases. an old ford factory is being converted into a emergency mdical center. these preparations were under way to transform the event center into a makeshift hospital. >> we are working to double hospital capacity from 1,100 beds to about 2,200 beds. >> it's a giant space and has all of the capable infrastructure to support something like this. >> national guard troops have assembled 250 beds. this makeshift hospital would only be activated if other medical centers end up being overwhelmed with patients. santa clara county is preparing for a possible surge of patients. county leaders are addressing the question of what happens if

they suddenly need to hospitalize large numbers of people. abc 7 news reporter chris nguyen hashose d santa clara county's hospital are ready for a surge in covid cases. at good samaritan in san jose chief nursing officer mark brown has been working tirelessly with his staff to prepare. >> being in the environment where they're also keyed up and anxious about it and having to wear that protective equipment is wearing on them. >> reporter: the hospital was proactive with the early installation of these temporary tents outside the emergency department each with enough room to triage up to six patients at a time and triple the number of beds in the icu. thursday morning the county unveiled a new digital dashboard outlining the number of ventilators and hospital beds currently available throughout the region. >> close association between the social distancing orders and the measurement of capacity in our

day. hi, everybody. let's take a look at what's going on in san jose. partly cloudy conditions and about 45 degrees. most of us in the low to upper 40s at 7:00 and maybe not quite as cold as it was yesterday morning. mid to upper 50s at noon and mid to upper 50s at the coast and the rest of us hit mid to low 50s. 51 to 55. quiet weather across the state from 83 in palm springs to 69 in sacramento. winter storm watch tomorrow up to half a foot of snow but nearly three to four feet of snow falls sunday. heavy snow. if you have to travel up there, i wouldn't recommend it. it's going to be too dangerous. the new federal law allows most workers with children to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave. officials say that the families first coronavirus response act applies to state workers. the law also gives two weeks of sick leave at full pay for people who meet certain criteria. that includes having a child whose school or day care has

been canceled and it's also available to workers who have to stay at hominid a quarantine order from a public health official or a doctor. bay area students the coronavirus has been really disruptive and they have no classes and they see their teachers on a computer screen and the loss of social prom, sp events. more on how parents can help their children cope. >> they specialize in family therapy and we started by asking how do you break to your child they're not going back to school. >> give them a sense of control that we're figuring this out together and here to protect you and keep you safe. >> reporter: for teens they may already know they're not going back to school. instead, try these conversation starters. >> how are you feeling? what does that feel like in your body and, you know, what are some things that you've done to help yourself when you're feeling that way. >> reorter: for young children,

exploratorium camera where it is 48 degrees. let's talk about your highlights. today is our last dry day. a few high clouds as we head into the afternoon and evening hours and a colorful sunset and we'd love to see it on social media. waves of rain and showers for about three to almost four days and then we'll get warmer and drier weather late next week. if you're just joining us, one for both days this weekend and the heavier the storms are going to be sunday. here's a look at saturday and we'll go hour by hour starting off at 3:00 in the morning when the light to moderate rain moves into the north bay. really heavier in the north bay. all that yellow as we head into the 7:30 hour and then also starting to spread southward across the bay. notice it does weaken in the afternoon and early evening hours. in fact, turning over to showers and steady rain and light to moderate as we head through the evening hours and overnight as we have a moist flow off the ocean. and the second flow comes down and brings us heavier showers

santa rosa. lows tonight, milder and we don't have to worry about any frost or freeze warnings like we have in lake and me ndocino counties. rain moving through the north bay as we move through the early morning hours tomorrow. here's a heads up. starting tomorrow target will start more act ofly promoting social distancing in all of its stores. the stores will monitor and when they need to, control the number of people allowed into a store. employees will be given face masks and gloves to wear at work. instacart is promising to give its workers health kits that will include face masks, hand sanitizer and thermometer. some workers went on strike on monday to protest how the company was handling their safety. it offers same day grocery delivery and pickup. an expert on viruses says surfers should stop going into the water to reduce their risk of contracting covid-19.

a chemist says the coronavirus migh think. she says the six-feet rule does not apply at the beach and that's because coastal winds can get really strong and they can send those viral particles soaring through the air. this expert calls the virus a silent killer because you can't see it or smell it. oakland is doing what it can to get families in need healthy meals. the food district food truck handed out free grab and go meals yesterday. a district spokesperson says 80% of families in oakland schools have one parent who lost a job and 60% of have two parents who have lost jobs. >> what is going on here at esperonsa is indicative of what is going on across oakland and families and students at many of our schools. probably dozens by now and, so,
