who is tracking two storms heading our way. >> goodern moi morning, those t storms will last three days. the possibility of a third storm for monday and two storms will hit this weekend for sure. let's see how they are lined up showing you how quiet they will be today. milder this morning low to upper 40s at 7:00 under mostly sunny sky and increasing sunshine at noon. breezes pick up at the coast and keeping you in the 50s while the rest of us make a run into the low and mid-60s. even a few upper 60s inland around the 2:00 to 3:00 hour and back down to the low to mid-50s at 7:00. storm churning out over the pacific. looks pretty benign right now and when it comes in, it will bring us light to moderate rain for the north bay and light rain for tomorrow and when the secondary storm comes in a chance of showers and thunderstorms and snow down to around 4,000 feet and we'll continue that to a lesser extent monday. i'll give you an hour by hour look at that coming up next. now breaking news from the

abc 7 news desk. >> breaking news at the live desk this morning. a cruise member from the "grand princess" cruise ship has died. sky 7 is flying over the cruise ship right now. we want to get you that so you can see the area. the crew member died in a san francisco hospital after being tra transferred off the ship last month. hundreds of workers remain on the "grand princess" docked at its home port in the san francisco cruise terminal. 14-day quarantine ends tomorrow. a coalition of unity groups and experts will hold an emergency press conference later today. they'll be talking about worker safety, as well as testing. reggie, i'll send it over to you. >> i had forgotten that that ship is still here in the bay area. bay area public health officials are now recommending that you wear a face cover when you're out in public. we are talking about cloth face coverings, not the n95 specialized mask that people in the hospitals need.

amy hollyfield is live in walnut creek with more on this. amy? >> there have been debates on whether officials should make this recommendation and now bay area health officials are taking it one step further. they are recommending that you cover your face when you do your essential outings like going to the grocery store or the doctor's visit. just those essential outings you have to do. the world health organization still has not taken this step saying only the sick and those that care for the sick need masks. the concern is that once this recommendation comes across, people will keep all the n95 masks for themlves. officials a emphasizing, leave those for the health care workers. you just need a cloth mask. and president trump is now also saying it's not a bad idea to cover your face. >> the reason why the conversation is coming up now why the cdc may readvise their guidelines is because we're getting more and more evidence

that people can spread the is wn they are asymptomattic. >> 3m to produce more n95 face masks for medical professionals. the rest of us just need a cloth covering. cove it could keep the virus from spreading and also just remind people to stay away and keep that social distance. that is still a key in this and then hand washing. hand washing, social distancing still the top strategies needed in this fight. reporting live from walnut creek, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> thank you, amy. i want to get some breaking news we just got into the abc 7 news room. the labor department just released the march job's report and it shows that employers cut 701,000 jobs last month and this increased the country's unemployment rate to 4.4%. it had been at the 50-year low of 3.5%. but this report really doesn't

even tell the full story because it doesn't include the layoffs that hit in the last two weeks. now, experts say the unemployment rate could go as high as 15% over the next month. and that would be the highest since the great depression in the 1930s. so, we'll have to wait and see how investors react to this when the stock market opens up in about 30 minutes at 6:30. well, there are officially more than 1 million coronavirus cases worldwide this morning. 11,000 of those are right here in california, but that number could be a lot higher. jobina is at the live desk with a look at why. jobina? >> thank you, kumasi. the state has a massive backlog of 59,000 pending coronavirus tests and that number continues to grow. unfortunately, this will not give us a clear picture of how many people are possibly infected in our state. we'll bring up the graphic here so you can take a look at these numbers. the bay area and santa cruz county has more than 3,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. that's 230 people more than

yesterday at the same time. 75 people have now died, including the first reported case from solano county. santa clara county leads the bay area in confirmed cases with more than 1,000. bay area officials are recommending face masks for everyone as amy was just mentioning, but social distance is still the most important for safety. 6.6 million people have filed for unemployment since the crisis began. and that includes 2 million californians. >> we've averaged 111,000 unemployment insurance claims on a daily basis. the economic consequences are p profound. >> san francisco mayor london breed announced a new task force to speed ucoveryand speaking of recovery, the u.s. treasury says americans should expect those stimulus checks somewhere in the next two weeks. i'll send it back to you in the studio, kumasi. >> thank you. governor newsom will give us

an update on the state's effort to protect homeless people during this outbreak. this comes as san francisco confirms its first case of coronavirus inside a homeless shelter. a person staying at the division circle navigation center tested positive and now that person is recovering at an isolation hotel while other residents are getting screened. anyone with symptoms will be tested and relocated along with anyone who is at high risk of being infected. city supervisors are pushing to move all homeless people into hot hotels. >> that navigation center sits in my district and i will fight to get every one of those residents like all of my constituents inside sheltering stare also d safe. getting masks to wear at all more than 1.9 million californians have filed for unemployment since march 12th and now there's a new website for people who are currently looking for a job. here's abc 7 news anchor ama daetz. >> reporter: the website onward.org will connect californians to thousands of

>> white gold. >> nice. all right. let us know how that goes, reggie. i'm probably not going to watch. let's take a look at what is going on outside. welcome to friday. it is 41 and mainly clear down in san jose. your accuweather highlights, mostly sunny and seasonal. a few clouds this morning and a few more during the evening hours and a colorful sunset. capture it, post it and #abc7. we'd love to see it. cloudy with rain moving into the north bay and then everybody gets wet starting tomorrow through at least monday. let's take a look at our temperatures. you can see down in the south bay we're looking pretty comfortable there with mid to upper 60s. that is the case in most inland neighborhood. around the bay, low to mid-60s and along the coast upper 50s to low 60s where it's going to be a little breezier. now, lows tonight are going to dip down into the low to upper 40s. with increasing clouds. that's going to keep us a little

bit milder than the last couple of mornings and once we get past that, that's when the rain will start to move in. i apologize. my computer is having a little bit of a hiccup. you can see the low to mid-40s and even a few upper 40s. let's look at storm impact scale. one for not only tomorrow and sunday but also for monday. now, tomorrow, light to moderate rain in the north bay during the morning hours. light rain moving into the rest of our neighborhoods during the mid-morning and am to the afternoon and early evening hours and turns over to scattered showers. you can see them changing as we head through the evening and overnight hours. the stronger storm comes in as we head towards sunday and that's when we can have our downpours with the thunderstorms and some lightning hail and a snow level down to 4,000 feet and temperatures up to 15 degrees cooler than average. kumasi, reggie. >> all right, thanks, mike. now, let's turn to another meteorologist that we love, mr. rob marciano. hi, rob. >> good morning, reginald,

kumasi. great to be with both of you coming to you from new york, lots coming up on "gma." little storm here but, of course, big headlines continue to be the coronavirus crisis with the number of cases now reaching 1 million worldwide and a quarter of those here in the u.s. we have all the bases covered, including the potential for finding a new cure from a doctor on that netflix docu series "pandemi "pandemic." we have some encouraging news from him. also much more on the virus on many fronts. the economy. how you can get through it. there are a number of ways that we are going to share with you on how to kind of ease that financial crunch that so many families are feeling right now. and, also, here's a story about a man who got the virus and has been without his family trying to recover from it. after 23 days, he's been reunited and we'll have that story. so, those are the kind of stories we need to get more of as we try to get through this

half an inch saturday with a tenth to a third for the rest of us. as we head into sunday, much strongerist systems in green, u inch. the rest of us up to three quarters. >> other marine life at a public aquarium in san francisco needs your help. the aquarium of the bay is raising money to help keep up operations during the shut down. most of its workers have been furloughed, but there's a dedicated team monitoring and feeding 24,000 animals and 186 species at the aquarium. there's a go fund me set up. the goal is to raise $500,000 so they can keep up with animal care during the closure. people have donated about $4,500 so far and they still have quite a ways to go. it is a national trend, gun sales have surged since the beginning of the covid-19 shelter in place started. businesses booming for a dublin gun shop. the owner's name is travis

morgan and in his 20 years operating the shop called guns fishing and other stuff, he's never seen a spike in gun sales quite like this one. recent fbi data said california saw a 72% increase in firearm background checks since february. >> got a gloc, got a beretta. you name it, we ain't got it. people are worried what is going to happen being locked down and staying at home. >> a record breaking 3.7 million background checks performed across the u.s. in march. that's right around the same time that shelter in place orders prompted mass hoarding of toilet paper and cleaning supplies. in california, organizers are still planning to hold the outside land music festival. two months after the current projected peak of covid-19 hospitalizations. they are working closely with local officials to make sure if outside lands does happen, it will happen in the safest environment possible. the south by southwest film

on weather wise. mid to upper 30s in many inland neighborhoods and we do have highs today, that will be pretty close to average. upper 50s and mid-60s along the coast where the breezes will remain. around the bay, a calmer day with low to mid-60s and inland we'll have mid to upper 60s. start off with a few clouds this morning. sunshine and a few clouds this afternoon but the clouds will get thicker tonight as waves of storms. three of them come in. one saturday, one sunday and one monday. light rain and showers tomorrow and potential downpours and snow down to 4,000 feet for sunday and monday. we'll talk more about that in the next half hour. >> thanks, mike. >> happening this morning the city of fremont is opening a coronavirus testing site at the fire tactical training center on stevenson boulevard. you to have to certain symptoms to get one. abc 7 news reporter julian glover is live at the testing site with more on this. julian? >> good morning, kumasi.

you'll see one of the tents already set up this morning. the idea is to alleviate some of the pressure put on the emergency departments that have been doing the bulk of the coronavirus testing so far. so first responders and those on the front lines, our health care workers, can get tested and get tested fast. we do want to stress this is free and oepen to the public. but the organizers are saying you must have symptoms in order to get a test here. let's walk you through what we know. it will open at 10:00 a.m. this morning and run until 5:00 p.m. or until they run out of the tests that they set aside for the day. again, in the video, you can see some of those tents already set up where this drive-through testing will be conducted. let's talk about the symptoms you need. you to have to have a fever of at least 100 degrees and be dealing with a cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing or ongoing chest pain and these are ongoing symptoms of covid-19. again, organizers stressing you have to have those symptoms before they give you that nasal or oral covid-19 test and you must be in a vehicle.

they hope to offer walk-up testing soon but they do not have that t sai they took cues from the first drive-through testing area in our neighborhood and they have been seeing streams of long lines with people showing up hours before the center opened since it first opened last week. now, the testing site here in fremont, if you're looking for the address, it's 7200 stevenson boulevard opening at 10:00 this morning. as i mentioned, first responders and those on the front lines, medical staff, will be prioritized. you can call ahead and schedule a screening. that number to call is up on our website abc7news.com. another thing that we're looking to find out that we don't know so far is how long it will take folks to get those test results back after they've been tested. reporting in fremont this morning, julian glover, abc 7 news. >> thank you, julian. this morning, we are learning a crew member from the "grand princess" ship has died. want to take you to sky 7 which is live above the "grand

princess" in san francisco bay near oracle park. the crew member died of coronavirus in a san francisco hospital after being transferred off the ship last month. hundreds of workers still remain onboard the "grand princess" now docked in san francisco. their 14-day quarantine ends tomorrow. now, there are nearly 3,000 cases of covid-19 in the bay area and in santa cruz county. 75 people have died, including the first reported death in solano county. santa clara county leads the bay area with more than 1,000. north bay, mendocino county reporting four confirmed cases and lake county remains unchanged with no positive cases. in richmond, an old ford factory is being converted into an emergency federal medical center in the event of a possible surge in covid-19 cases.end w

transform the event center into a makeshift hospital. >> doubling from 1,100 beds to 2,200 beds. >> it's a giant space and has all the capable infrastructure to support something like this. >> national guard troops have assembled 250 beds. this makeshift hospital would only be activated if other medical centers end up being overwhelmed with patients. jobina? thank you, kumasi. here at the live desk i'm tracking the latest numbers of coronavirus around the globe. 1 million people have been diagnosed with covid-19 worldwide and 250,000 of them are right here in the united states. now, this has really become an intense situation as shortages on ventilators and masks continue weeks away from the estimated peak infection rate. to ease the shortage, president trump has announced he is stepping up the defense production act and ordering companies to manufacturer desperately needed equipment and more 3m face masks, health care workers say they feel

defenseless. >> every day when i go to work, i feel like a sheep going to slaughter. my colleagues and i are writing our last will and testament. >> the number of coronavirus cases in new york is especially daunting with more than 100,000 infections and 1,500 deaths. makeshift morgues are being built across the city. now, americans have really been wondering about these stimulus checks. we are hearing from the government those should be available within the next two weeks. we'll send it to you, reggie. >> thanks, jobina. santa clara county is preparing for a possible surge of covid-19 cases. currently 200 people hospitalized in the county's 11 hospitals because of the virus. officials expect that number to go up in the weeks to come and they're working to ensure that amitan officials say they were proactive with the early installation of temporary tents. now, this is outside the emergency department. each has enough room to triage up to six patients at a time.

they also have the capacity to triple the number of beds in the icu. >> working on staffing to make sure we have enough nurses and physicians to care for them. >> the santa clara convention center is being converted into a federal medical station with 250 beds to treat less severe cases of covid-19. that should be open as early as next week. california state prisons and county jails are releasing thousands of inmates to try to reduce the spread of coronavirus. community advocates fear those people may have no place to go. >> everybody has been arguing about release, but nobody's arguing about where they are going to be resourcing themselves. >> we modified our largest shelter, our 98-bed shelter in berkeley to accommodate an isolation unit, as well, for >> several community groupsacan and transform them into shelters

the concern with the recommendation is that people will buy up all the n95 masks and hoard those and officials say leave those for the care workers. the emphasis with this recommendation is just wear a cloth mask over your face. that's all they say you need out in public. to remember for every n95 the public is using, that is one less n95 on the front line and that's one potential life at risk whether it be a health giver's live or patient's life. >> reporter: president trump invoked the production for 3m to produce more n95 face masks for medical professional s the worl health organization are still only saying someone who is sick or taking care of someone who is sick should wear the masks but they're taking it one step further because they worry about those who don't have symptoms and could be passing this on without realizing it.

points. the march unemployment report was released earlier this morning and we know that is really weighing on investors. it showed 701,000 jobs were lost, but that number is likely a lot larger than that. and that's because the survey of employers was taken before most companies started laying off people because of the coronavirus stay at home orders. of course, we'll stay on top of this for you. i want to show you something cool that the salesforce tower is doing in downtown san francisco. you see the top of the building there. those are hands clapping and you may see some prayer flags illuminated in support of medical workers and first responders on the front of the coronavirus pandemic. that seems more than appropriate right now. we also have some good news if you happen to be a musical theater fan like me. you'll be able to experience some of them for free. >> i am andrew lloyd webber and universal have come up with the idea of a whole series now called "the show must go on"

flow comes off the ocean and those could be light to moderate at times and won't be steady everywhere. then you can see sunday morning we wake up to some light rain and then the cold front or stronger storm comes through and that is when we have a chance of some moderate showers. and then another, you can see that swirling clouds and green coming off the ocean for sunday night into monday. that's our next chance and maybe our better chance for some thunderstorms. but we do have definitely a chance sunday for thunderstorms and a snow level down to around 4,000 feet and some hail. so rainfall amounts a tenth of an inch in the south bay and nearly a quarter saturday for the rest of us to a half inch in the north bay and you can see more than double that sunday. monday's rain totals will be significantly lower as the showers and thunderstorms will become more scattered. there is a chance in the south bay tuesday but notice we start to rebound out of the 50s for highs sunday and monday back into the 60s and by thursday we'll be back to average. have a great weekend and good luck with the rain trying to get outside. use our app. live doppler 7 is there. it will show you where the

storms are and where they're going. as we shelter in place, more people are depending on home delivery for food and deliveries. going to the pharmacy could be a challenge for people who are at risk. the timing for this couldn't have been better. a pharmacy called now rx and it's expanding here in the bay area. it makes home deliveries for free and in the past month, it's seen a 30% increase in orders. it's able to offer free delivery of prescriptions by using centralized dispensaries in san jose and mountain view where they use robotics to boost efficiency while also reducing the cost of staffing. there are 30 registered pharmacists, assistants and technicians and 25 drivers who make delivery from daly city to san jose. >> they give you an eta on when they'll be here with delivery of your product and knock on your door or give you a jingle. they leave it at your orstep de a picture so they can show they have dropped it off. >> now rx has plans to expand
