good evening and thank you so much for joining us. i'm dion lim. >> i'm eric thomas. there are more than 550,000 confirmed cases in the united states. that's three times as many as the next highest country, spain. >> more than 21,000 deaths have been reported in the u.s., which is also the highest of any country. new york city alone is nearing 7,000. italy has the second most deaths from the virus. california is reporting just over 22,000 confirmed cases, which is the sixth most in the u.s., just behind massachusetts and pennsylvania. more than 600 people have died in the state from the virus. the greater bay area now has more than 5,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus. the count right now stands at 5,3079. 140 people have died. santa clara county still has the most cases with more than 1600. >> north of the bay area lake and mendocino counties report

having four confirmed cases each. so far there are no reported covid-19 deaths in either of those counties. easter sunday was celebrated in unique ways across the bay area tonight from a safe, social distance. churches were empty, but faith was strong as people went online to mark the holiday. cornell bernard is live outside st. paul church in san francisco with more on this story for us. cornell? >> hi, eric. easter being reimagined in so many ways across the bay area, folks here at saint peter and paul church just gave up 80 meals from a safe social distance to anyone in need. church services are virtual, and so are easter egg hunts. easter services went on at nob hill's grace cathedral but with no parishioners and empty pews. valerie watched a live stream of the service while sheltering in her home, and she wasn't alone. >> to see people from literally all over the world being

soon need to move toward aggressive soelg. social distancing. and the white house responding to that report saying the white house took bold action to protect americans and unleash the full power of the federal government to help curb the spread of the virus. andrew dembert, abc7 news, washington. one of the most famous voices in the world delivered a message of healing today. ♪ >> that is famed italian opera singer andrew bocelli giving an easter sunday performance at an empty duomo cathedral of milan. italy has the third largest number of coronavirus cases behind the u.s. and spain. the andrea bocelli foundation is helping hospitals purchase personal protective equipment for medical staff. bocelli said this performance represented a message of hope and love to italy and the rest

of the world. the coronavirus was likely possibly december and long before there was widespread testing, according to the chronicle. santa clara's chief officer dr. jeff smith says it wasn't recognized at first because we were having a severe flu season. the first santa clara county cases of covid-19 were found in people who had travelled to wuhan, china. but then cases began showing up in people with no known source for the virus. researchers say that suggested it had already been spreading in the community. a report by the associated press says more than 2600 deaths nationwide have been linked to outbreaks at nursing homes and long-term facilities. we know of at least two at a facility in orinda and seven at another in hayward there was also a large outbreak in washington state. the ap says the count was at about 450 deaths ten days ago. contra costa may decide tuesday on whether to ask the governor to allow for a ve by mail only election in november. the board of supervisors is

considering making the request in the name of safety because of the coronavirus. the vast majority of volunteers who work at polling places are seniors. many have already notified the county's elections office that they will not serve because of health and safety concerns. salesforce ceo marc benioff is sending four tractor-trailers to ucsf loaded with personal protective equipment. benioff tweeted these pictures. they contain a half million n95 masks, 100,000 isolation gowns, 50,000 face shields and 100,000 nasal swabs. uber freight donated the transportation. british prime minister boris johnson was released from the hospital today, and in a recorded video, thanked the medical staff who saved his life. >> and the reason in the end my body did start to get enough oxygen was because for every second of the night, they were watching and they were thinking and they were caring and making

the interventions i needed. >> johnson was admitted to the hospital a week ago with covid-19 symptoms. the 55-year-old spent three nights in intensive care. on the advice of his medical team, he won't immediately be returning to work. the uk is reporting 85,000 cases of covid-19. more than 10,000 people have died. well, a suspect is dead tonight following a violent string of events including a man stabbing an offduty police officer. it all began when the man stabbed a person while he tried to carjack them at a chevron station in south san francisco. an off-duty san francisco police officer tried to stop the robbery, and that officer shot the suspect, but they were also stabbed by the suspect. the suspect also stole a police car. police chased him to a kaiser permanente facility in daly city, and that's where officers shot and killed the suspect after he threatened them with a

continues to provide daily care and feeding of the zoo's 2,000 animals. this video was provided to abc7 by the zoo. each year the zoo creates easter themed treats. the one big difference this year, no visitors. well, a 12-year-old on the peninsula is using her sewing skills to help the community during the coronavirus outbreak. ashlyn tso of burlingame is a clothing designer, and her work has even been featured at new york fashion week. when the covid crisis began, she channeled all of that passion for fashion into making masks for people on the front lines. for every mask she sells and delivers from a social dance, two are donated to health care workers. she says it's been very cool seeing how much others wanted to pitch in. >> some people have been donating fabric to us. a donating money so we can use it

to buy supplies. it makes me feel really happy, like really glad that i could help. >> yeah. really glad you're doing what you do. ashlyn can make 20 masks a day, and so far has made 200. her goal is to get to 500 masks, and having the extra time during spring break certainly helped. on this easter sunday, a fremont high schooler is bringing his neighbors closer to together in this era of social distancing. ved mystery organized a beautification day in his south fremont neighborhood this afternoon. simple goal, dozens of his neighbors on yampa went on their front yards to garden, remove weeds or relax while keeping physical distance. he said looking out his window at homemade him realize how important it was for people to be visibl there for one another. >> it takes out of the spirit of everyone as an individual. by bringing our community together to a common goal, we can really revitalize the spirit

we have and that we all share. >> everyone is asked to wave hello to one another, a simple show of kindness when the world needs it most. >> all right. pretty greatay t domigorboinllh on the forecast. hi, drew. >> hi, dion. yeah, we're going to enter a pretty nice stretch over the next couple days. today you notice it was warmer than yesterday. also brighter in a lot of cities. live doppler 7 right now. we were tracking a thunderstorm that was right over santa rosa at the 5:00 hour. we'll zoom on in to the north bay, and that thunderstorm has really dissipated. we do have a quick shower, even a couple of rumbles of thunder, some lightning over santa rosa. that cell is weakening, falling apart. just some very light mist and drizzle falling in the north bay from napa to vallejo and sears point. and that cell continues to fall apart as it moves to the south. nonetheless, we'll take you outside the golden gate bridge camera right now.

it's a mix of sun and clouds looking towards the north where that shower is dissipating as we speak. numbers, temperatures, that was the big story across the bay area today. it was a warmer end to the weekend. 65 the current temperature in san jose. we're at 61 in oakland. we hit 63 in the city earlier today, but now we've cooled off to 58. the sea breeze kicking. in 63 in santa rosa and concord right now coming in at 68 degrees. so overnight tonight, not nearly as cloudy as it was last night. we'll still have some patchy cloud cover right along the coastline, and a few clouds around the bay shoreline. but most areas will be mainly clear and temperatures falling into the 40s overnight tonight. let's hoe you what's in store on your monday. future weather, we'll stop the clock at 6:00 in the morning. there you can see the patchy cover along the coast. that color of gray and white, even patchy cloud cover around the east bay. watch how quickly any of that cloud cover evaporates. we have high pressure moving in.

that means a lot of sunshine on the way tomorrow and warmer temperatures in the afternoon as well. as on your monday, highs 63 in the city. 70 in san jose. that's where we should be for this time of year. 74 in concord that will feel mild tomorrow. 74 in santa rosa. 69 in vallejo and half moon bay at about 61 degrees. future tracker temperatures. as we get you into tuesday we do anticipate those afternoon temperatures to rise a couple of degrees even more. i think our warmest spots by tuesday afternoon will get into the upper 70s, if not close to 80 degrees. it will feel like april warmth here on tuesday. 78 in santa rosa. same in fairfield. around the bay shoreline, you could see mid- to upper 60s with not lower 70s. and we'll do it again on wednesday. so tuesday and wednesday, if you want that mild air, those are your days of the week. the accuweather seven-day forecast. plan the next seven days for you. a little coastal fog. otherwise a lot of sunshine on monday, and temperatures respond
