practicing social distancing in the city. abc 7 news reporter liz pena spoke to a city supervisor from san francisco, luz? >> reporter: according to sfpd they have cited two people in the last 20 days and a supervisor says that number could go up. we visited some of the most popular out places inner city. the embarcadero, the marina green, all locations busy with people in group, family, people working out, and others not keeping their distance. sfpd tweeted this afternoon that officers will work with the social distancing guidelines. >> we want to educate. we do not want to enforce. 95% of san francisco is getting that. to the other 5%, please, don't ruin it for everybody who is doing the right thing. >> reporter: sfpd confirmed to abc 7 news, so far, two people have been cited.during thehe pc

those citations are set to increase. >> we're going to start stepping that up like nobody's business. and we don't want to enforce, we want everybody to stay healthy. >> reporter: a viewer who preferred to remain anonymous sent these photos, concerned about a lack of social distancing at the richmond farmer's market this morning. the supervisor says the farmer's market will continue to remain open as essential businesses. >> how those are run is critically important. >> reporter: he pleaded for san francisco to keep distance while shopping, in the businesses, making it a prior inform customers and protect employees. the biggest concern, that a lock of social distancing could potentially impact their business. >> a sneeze guard. >> if it wasn't for the farmer's mark, we wouldn't be able to pay our rent. >> it's important to highlight that you can go out to perform

cities. el cerrito has canceled the annual fourth of july world one festival, it is slashed as part of a cost cutting move. on tuesday, city council members in concord will consider cutting their own pay by 10%. the council will look at cutting pay for top executives of the city by 5%. in almeda county, the jail reports no, in ant rita jail, one inmate has recovered. lessons will resume over zoom for berkeley public school students. the school district announced over twitter that teachers can resume scheduling video conferences starting monday. the district halted instruction on wednesday after a zoom bombing incident when an uninvited guest disrupts a meeting and some cases they leave vial messages for everyone to see. easter sunday was celebrated in unique ways across the bay today, from a safe social distance. churches were empty, but faith was strong as people went online

the police chased him to a kaiser permanente facility in daly city where officers shot and killed the suspect after he threaten them with a knife. both of the stabbing victims ar an antibody test for the coronavirus could play a key role in determining who could safely return to work and school. but there are concerns about accuracy. the test looks for blood proteins called antibodies which the body produces after infection. the results can tell us if a person is immune from covid-19. the trump administration said late yesterday it will require health insurers to provide those tests for free. more than 70 conditions have signed up to sell them, but fda commissioner steven hahn says the currents wild west of unregulated tests is creating confusion that could ultimately slow the path to recovery. >> i am concerned that some of the antibody tests that are on the market, that haven't gone through the fda scientific review, may not be as accurate as we would like them to be. we have authorized one antibody test already. and i can assure the american people that what we're doing is

using data and science to look at those tests to make sure that they're valid, they're accurate, an they're reproducible. we know, chuck, that no test is 100% perfect. but what we don't want are wildly inaccurate tests because as i said before, that is going to be much worse than having no test. >> stanford university announced this week it has developed its own antibody test, and shares the fda's concern about commercial tests. it is asking the fda for emergency authorization to offer its test. stanford is providing it to as many people in northern california as possible. the sales force ceo is sending four travellers to ucsf loaded with personal protective equipment. they tweeted these pictures. they contain a half million n95 mask, 100,000 isolation gowns, 50,000 face shields, and 100,000 nasal swabs. they say uber freight donated transportation. then later today, he also

announced he is sending ppes to michigan and louisiana. sales force partnered with walmart, state farm, lockheed harten and biz round table to donate 1.2 million masks, gloves and shoe covers. new numbers to show how hard restaurants have been hit by the pandemic. the national restaurant association says the industry has lost $25 billion in sales since march 1st, and three million jobs have been lost as well. and many restaurants have been forced to shift their business models relying primarily on takeout and deliveries and others have turned into make gist grocery stores as another way to keep revenue coming in. with tasting rooms closed down, california wineries are providing sommeliers through video conferencing, with virtual tasting, and you order the bottles online and then the bottles come to your home and then you log on with your host with a wine tasting conducted on

good evening, i'm eric thomas. in tonight's headlines, here's the latest look at the impact of coronavirus in the bay area. there are now more than 5,000 confirmed cases, 140 people have died, that includes six more people within the last 24 hours. santa clara county still has the most cases with more than 1600. and it has 54 deaths. one city leader in san francisco is urging people to keep social distancing to slow the spread of covid-19. supervisor aaron peskin believes 95% of people are social distancing and wants police to remind the 5% that are not, that there are consequences. >> many commuters hope to avoid scenes like this on san francisco's muni. some riders say drivers are

demanding 15 feet of space between them and passengers. and that's causing cramped conditions. the head of the transit union says he doesn't know of any and. muni is focusing service on the 20% of its lines that carry 80% of its riders. a glimmer of good news for new york, signs of the curve, in the hard hit state is flattening but other states are warning of an alarping rise in coronavirus cases. trevor alt has the latest. >> the united states reaching a grim milestone over the weekend, the country with the highest death toll from covid-19, more than 550,000 confirmed cases, at least 21,000 americans have died, and new york the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, could be seeing a flattening of the curve. >> the apex isn't just an apex. it is a plateau. it has been flattening, and flattening at a terribly high level. >> other states predicting they're days away from their peak. in massachusetts, the number of

confirmed cases soaring by 21% over the weekend. 59-year-old nurse maria crier quit her job at this life care center in massachusetts, saying management had no experience dealing with infectious disease. she died this past friday, after contracting covid-19. more than 70 staff and residents at the facility had been infected. ten residents have died. pennsylvania's governor, predicting a difficult week ahead for his state, after more than 2800 new cases were reported saturday. and now, questions over the federal response. the white house task force leading infectious disease expert admits government inaction may have cost american lives. >> if you had a process that was ongoing and started mitigation erly you could have saved lives. obviously no one is going to deny that but what goes into those kinds of decisions is complicated. >> "the new york times" reports, in a february 21 coronavirus task force meeting attended by fauci and hhs secretary alexander azar, it was decided they would soon need to move

toward aggressive social distancing. by this point, china had at least 75,000 cases and northern italy was closing public spaces but the president did not announce those measureseenghat known u.s. coronavirus cases surging, from 15 to more than 4,000. the white house responding to that report, saying, president trump took bold action to protect americans, and unleashed the full power of the federal government, to curve the spread of the virus. trevor alt, abc news, new york. british prime minister boris johnson was released from the hospital today. and in a recorded video, thanked the medical staff that saved his life. >> and the enough oxygen, for every second of the night, they were watching, an they were thinking and they were caring, and making the interventions i needed. >> johnson was admitted to the hospital a week ago, with covid-19 symptoms.

the 55-year-old spent three nights in expensive care. he will not immediately return to work on advice of his team. and more than 10,000 beam have died. a report by the social tass press shows that 2600 have been linked to long term facilities, and we know of one in orind and one in hayward and a large outbreak in washington state and the associated press says the count was 450 deaths ten days ago. the shortage of n95 masks has led the food and drug administration to give emergency authorization for sterilizing used masks so they can be used again in hospitals. thousands of medical facilities in the u.s. already have machinery to disinfect surgical tools. now, the same process can be used to disinfect used masks and respirators with ry in short supply. it involves using hydrogen peroxide gas papers to kill

germs. those with obvious signs of wear like broken bands and makeup will not be repurposed. a vote by mail election only in november, the board of supervisors is considering making a request in the name of safety because of the coronavirus. the vast majority of volunteers who work at polling places are seniors. many have already notified the county's election office and they will not serve because of health and safety concerns. several families spent part of their easter sunday celebrating the career of a preschoolteacher who is retiring because of the health risks posed by covid-19. cars paraded past the home of lori, in the valley and friends tell us she taught children more than 40 years, including teaching multiple generations in some families, with the more recent students being the children of students she taught decades ago. one of most famous voices in the world delivered a message of
