coronavirus safety orders will fall to individual governors. that's a reversal from his earlier stance that he held about absolute authority to reopen the economy. now on abc7 news live desk update. growing concern over a meat shortage in grocery stores. i'm looking into all of that. some plants have been forced to close due to covid-19. a pork processing plant in south dakota is dealing with an outbreak. two workers at a tyson factory have died. the head of the north american meat institute says there is enough situation could get worse. >> if we continue to see shut downs of plants going forward that can't operate the crisis that we're in, that we could see some further disruptions in retail. >> also putting a strain on the supply chain is the growing

here's julian glover with more on this. good morning, julian. >> we want to start by stressing this is just a proposal, a final decision still has to be made later on this month. but, yes, the idea of giving all students within the san francisco unified school district an a got a whole lot of support in tuesday's nearly seven-hour board meeting. this is a major contrast to what the state is proposing, recommending, rather of using a pass/fail while schools remain closed during this pandemic. the move takes into account the unprecedented nature of schools being closed over the coronavis disparities in online distance learning for those who don't have resources to log online. >> first offering was made was that everyone gets an a or it was an a or incomplete. but another suggestion was that instead of a letter grade itself to just say pass.

doesn't take long for them to take over, does it? let's look at what is going on. partly cloudy inland and it will as the day unfolds and the marine layer gets a little deeper. low to mid 50s there. pretty cloudy around the bay and the coast and move up to the north bay and low to mid 50s everywhere. look at the golden gate bridge. it's a marine layer and not necessarily fog, as you can see. it looks pretty clear across the golden gate and more fog tomorrow. that west wind and 15 miles per hour. so, kumasi and reggie and i were talking, stay away from the beaches. not as warm if you're exercising. if you're out in your neighborhood, put the sun screen on and know you can stay out longer before you start to turn a little red. for the north bay, look at that 50s at 9:00 and 61 at 11:00 and then we hang out in the upper 60s for the better part. we're in the 50s through 9:00 and limited sunshine into late

if you step out now and the next couple hours as the clouds aren't going away. what is going on as far as your accuweather highlights and slow sun means much cooler weather today. cloudy tonight and expect more fog and isolated drizzle along the peninsula coast, the peninsula itself and up into the east bay hills and the weekend is trending dry, but cooler. here's a look at your fog forecast. by noon, plenty of cloud cover over the bay and during the afternoon hours, that will dissipate and cling to the coast more so than anywhere else. look what it does to our temperatures. coast is 59 and we'll be lucky if we get to 62 in san francisco and mid to upper 60s for most of the bay. some areas we'll see sunshine quicker places like the east bay valley and the south bay. we'll head into the low and mid 70s. low to mid 50s with cloudy conditions as we talked about before. here's the area of low pressure that is responsible for the weather the next two days. now, it's going to stay off shore, but with its counterclockwise flow, it will

>> happy birthday! >> reporter: a birthday parade made for loyalty with an emt running up to give his friend a gift. a friend by the name of abbie yamaguchi who couldn't hold back her tears of joy. abbie turned 19 on wednesday and if you knew what she had been through in recent months, you'd probably be crying, she finished her second bout of chemo treatment a matter of days ago. >> last week was a little rough. it was just hard mentally and physically, but now i feel happy and better. >> reporter: dozens of cars lined up wednesday so they could see abbie, say happy birthday and show their love. last november abbie had a brain tumor removed and then learned the tumor was cancerous and radiation and chemo treatments

"the chronicle" reports the plan would lower restrictions on social distancing activities things like outdoor construction, landscaping, gardening and playing golf. santa cruz health officer says the only thing that the group has dider guidelines. the health officer g mt fst se up a list of criteria that

now they face another challenge, if they believe that college is in their future. abc7 news reporter julian glover is live with more on what they're going to have to do. julian? >> hey, good morning, reggie. a lot of focus on our high school seniors who moments like graduation and prom and things like that. but now the focus is shifting t spent a lot of time studying and now the possibility that they might be taking that exam online. the college board which runs the s.a.t. made that announcement this week. this is not the first time the test has been offered digitally. some schools across the country started the trend this year, but the first time the test was allowed to be taken at home. one of the options the organization is consering, degn h lg schools stay giving the s.a.t. on weekends in august if it's safe or just

through 9:00 and 60s up until 2:00 and then barely get to 70 before dropping down to 62 this evening and the next stop at the peninsula. because the sunshine doesn't completely go away until this afternoon mid to few upper 60s is as warm as you'll get. a little more comfortable if you're walking around unlike yesterday when it was so warm and unlike yesterday, i bet nobody goes to our beaches today because it's too cold. let's talk more about the commute for our essential workers. what are we seeing, jobina? >> well, mike, i want to give a heads up to our essential workers that use ac transit. the agency is limiting the number of people that can ride on the buses. will either be six, ten or a maximum of 16 people on the buses depending on the size. once the buses have reached capacity, the driver will keep going. vta is also limiting the number of people on their buses to increase social distancing and while we're talking boabout the south bay. 280 camera so you can see the clear conditions on our roads

upo ree es. not much. now, breaking news from the abc7 live desk. >> breaking news at the live desk just minutes ago. the labor department released the latest weekly jobless report. 5.2 million people filed for unemployment after being laid off or furloughed because of the coronavirus on top of the 16.6 million who filed for unemployment the previous three weeks. that means in the last four weeks nearly 22 million americans have lost their jobs. that wipes out all of the gains made since the great recession ended in june 2009. stock futures have increased since the new report was released in the last few minutes. we'll see how the markets react in about 45 minutes when the market opens. so many unemployed in california and governor newsom says financial aid is flowing to them right now. hundreds of thousands of debit cards loaded out with money are sent out every day.

the coast will be the coolest. 59. oops. we jumped ahead there. 59 in half moon bay to barely 60 in san francisco to mid to upper 60s around the bay and low to mid 70s inland and the south bay and east bay where we'll see sunshine first. temperatures tonight upper 40s to low to mid 50s outside the north bay. that area of low pressure spinning off our coast and continue to slide to the south. as it does. the closer you are to higher elevations today and again tomorrow, you can see some green blips develop, but that's it. a better chance on monday and that's why we have a one on the storm impact scale then. look at the temperatures continue to taper as we get a cooler air mass invading our lives all the way through monday and then a warming trend begins with drier weather tuesday and wednesday. kumasi, reggie? >> thanks, mike. coming up new at 6:00, united airlines has canceled nearly all of its flights for next month and not looking too good for june either. we're going to share what the company ceo is saying this

a mom who delivered her baby while in a coma because of covid-19 is now at home with her newborn. >> oh, my gosh. >> this is the best story. so, doctors at a new york hospital put her into a coma so she could go on a ventilator during her battle with coronavirus. she was unconscious when doctors delivered her son by c-section. but on monday she was taken off the ventilator and got to meet her son, walter, for the very first time. >> what a story. >> right. well, the kids are, i know, it's wonderful. while the kids are stuck at home during this pandemic, a family of deer got stuck at a san mateo school. >> they are definitely trapped back here. i got it. >> theteoment wed behind a fence at laurel elementary school.

north, still 0.2 in the north bay. not too bad. reggie, kumasi, back to you. the seriously big ship pulling into the port of oakland today. plus, emergency room doctors are making an interesting plea in the bay area. if you are sick and suspect you have coronavirus, seek treatment. if you have a student in the san francisco unified school district, they could be getting a 4.0 grade for this semester a big change from what the state is recommending. i'm julian glover with those details coming up in just a moment. these people are all on the front line and i think we all can do a little bit to make their lives easier right now. they're not able to be with their families, but to be out there for other families. if we can just give them one day food from the place that they like and bring something to make them feel better and that they are not alone in this, then i
