hospital if you have an issue noncoronavirus related. bay area emergency rooms have seen an alarming drop in non-covid-19 patients. attributes it to two reasons. first, people think the hospitals are overwhelmed with coronavirus patients and, second, they are afraid of contracting coronavirus at the hospital. >> we're seeing patients coming in with strokes that have been delayed for several days. people sitting at home with a pend situs for five or six days and people with chest pains or heart attacks that are waiting to seek care until the last possible moment. >> ucsf said its e.r. has not seen the surge in coronavirus patients that many people were expecting and they think that is thanks to the shelter-in-place orders. the covid-19 crisis may be slowing the economy, but not breaking the supply chain at the port of oakland.

6:06 am
but that is an option that is gaining a lot of support amongst the san francisco unified school district's school board in their nearly seven-hour meeting that they held this week. now, there is a major contrast from this proposal of giving everyone an a to what the state is recommending of using this pass/fail system to evaluate students while the schools remain closed during this pandemic. now, this move takes into account the unprecedented nature of schools being closed over the coronavirus and the in online distance learning for those who don't have the resources to logonli online. this will only affect middle school and high school because elementary school doesn't offer grades. >> a similar to pass and another suggestion was that instead of a letter grade itself to just say pass. there was some concern around the letter grade and what it means to both students and families. >> you can see school board

members mulling over both sides of this one. there is some concern among the board members, however, about handing out that 4.0 or a grade average could affect college admissions down the line. now, there was also plenty of discussion on whether giving all students an a plus or an a would deincent vise their distant learning they're doing right now. if you know you're going to get an a, why do the work in the first place? still very far from making a decision. that will happen later this month. reporting from home, julian glover, abc7 news. >> more people are in support of everyone gets an a. 17% now. it was pretty much zero when we checked in the 5:00 hour. but most people still think pass/fail which the state is 85%. if you live in san francisco, you may be hearing a little more howling at night.
