coronavirus death. >> we had not yet identified our first case of community transmission. that didn't happen until february 28th. what these deaths tell us is that we had community transmission probably to a significant degree far earlier than we had known. so, that is the headline there spread much earlier than we had known. that was santa clara county health officer acnologying another death in february linked to coronavirus. a 69-year-old man who passed away on february 17th at his home. now, both of those deaths moving up the u.s. timeline of coronavirus-related deaths by several weeks. we now know that corners here in santa clara county and across the bay area, they're going to continue to investigate more deaths and expect to find more related cases. we're live this morning, i'm julian glover, abc7 news. >> thank you, julian. in the south bay, san jose police are investigating a possible hate crime. somebody smashed the windows of

several vietnamese businesses. nothing was stolen from the businesses and no messages were left. city leaders saylly haomous tha hate crimes targeting asian americans is because of coronavirus. in the south bay, a nurse on the front lines was left stranded on the side of the road by a towing company. the reason she believes is because she's had contact with covid-19 patients. abc7 news amanda del castillo has this story. front line nurse meg king was on her way to work when her tire blew out in watsonville. waiting at the end of her drive, a 12-hour shift. >> the job as a nurse causes problems for everybody because somebody has been working 12 1/2 hours and they're waiting for me to come in. >> reporter: the company asked her to answer severalcovid-19

questions and one specifically asking if she came into contact with an infected person. she answered yes. stuck on the side of the road, help was not coming back. >> i believe they did not pick me up because i had answered i had taken care of coronavirus patients. >> reporter: santa cruz one and only aaa service providing servicing santa cruz company. we reached out to both companies to learn what happened. aaa says in part this situation was not handled in the best way. in this case, limited tow service coverage in her area. members respond to health screening questions before aaa provides service. if someone responds yes, we connect them with a specialized servicing team that works to find a safe solution. >> after the so-called specialized team talked to her, sh sat for another half hour until someon told her that rossi's refused to pick her up.

>> reporter: instead a passing chp officer helped king get back on the road an hour and a half later. >> literally they just said our drivers were scared for their safety. >> reporter: rossi's towing has yet to respond. i'm amanda del castillo, abc7 news. congress is rushing to pass another economic stimulus package to help people during the covid-19 pandemic. jobina fortson has more from the live desk. good morning. >> good morning, kumasi. busy day on capitol hill. the house is expected to vote on the $484 billion economic stimulus bill. the senate passed the bill on tuesday. it include $320 billion for the paycheck protection program which helps small more money will go towards hospitals and coronavirus testing. the cdc director says a long year with possibly more coronavirus cases this fall. >> i said it was going to be

more difficult and potentially complicated because we'll have flu and coronavirus circulating at the same time. >> have declined. >> the latest economic stimulus deal may not be enough. some governors are calling on the federal government to pour an additional $500 billion into state aid. governors are feeling the mounting pressure to ease on social distancing measures so that people can get back to work. kumasi, i'll send it back over to you. made the first significant change to california stay-at-home orders. the hospitals will be allowed to start scheduling surgeries. essential, nonemergency procedures things like heart valve operations. the governor wants to dramatically increase the number of coronavirus tests that are given daily from 16,000 to 25,000 a day by the end of april. the goal is to eventually get to $60,000 tests every day. the governor says he's received a pledge from president trump of 100,000 swabs from the federal

government. the governor gave no indication of when nonessential businesses might reopen. authorities in the six bay enfog face nose a coverings are now mandatory in alameda, contra costa,francisco. law enforcement officers could write you a ticket, but they say they're focusing on education first. they don't want you doing their job for them. >> if you're going to do that, you need to be careful about who you're talking with and stay in your lane. i'm hoping that if someone is not wearing a mask and you're concerned that they're not wearing a mask, that is to just move away. >> he said stay in your lane. b.a.r.t. has officers stationed at station entrances as well as at fare gates to enforce this

requirement. coronavirus tests available to anyone who lived or worked in san francisco, but they have to display at least one symptom like a fever, a cough or a sore throat and you also have to have an appointment. you can schedule those online and the results could take one to three days. the money is on the way, but, that may be true for some people who are out of work, but not everybody. the hurdles facing the self-employed who are now unemployed. swabs are critical to more testing for coronavirus across the state. we'll take you inside a bay area company that is racing to fill the need. before we get to all those stories, though, checking in with meteorologist mike nicco. it was so nice and warm, is today more of the same? >> i think so. few more clouds this morning which i'll show you in the next weather hit from the east bay hills camera and sunny and just as warm as yesterday as we continue the above average temperatures and it starts with this morning when we look at this in the east bay valleys. some of us in the 40s yesterday. we're almost up to ten degrees

warmer. look at all those mid to upper 50s through the trivalley and concord down highway 4 low to mid 60s and around even the north bay, you don't see the 40s thisind 5s t and , u to 11degreearr. more sunshtl emeryville and a little bit of fog along the coast and otherwise most of your commute should be okay. let's talk about some neighborhoods. 57 in the north bay and 75 by noon and 80 by:00 and still 73 at 7:00. east bay will take us to at least 9:00 to get rid of the sun and the clouds and low to mid 70s for serbl hours this afternoon and for san francisco we're 56 this morning with cloud cover, but then quick sunshine and temperatures in the upper 60s this afternoon. the closer you are to the beaches, the breezier the conditions are going to be. all right. we'll take a look at the weekend.

weidng on and you can see the 80s in morganhill. way in the south bay. the east bay, low to mid 80s and 82 in santa rosa and 80 in napa and then 72 to 76 around the bay and san francisco above average 68. tonight a little bit cooler as you can see due to the lack of oclouds a lot of low to mid 50s. my accuweather seven-day forecast, we will ramp up the heat away from the coast. near 90 inland and notice we drop about four degrees saturday and drop about another six degrees at least by sunday. sunday will be 5 to 15 degrees cooler than friday and then look at monday, tuesday and temperatures warm right back up into the 70s and 80s, well above average. i looked at thean models, no chance of rain the next 14 days. >> we will just enjoy. thanks, mike. now, we're getting back to
